The box office said tickets go on sale at 1pm this Saturday.  That's all the confirmation I needed.

One thing that sucks is that the palms is not on the strip.
Not far, but not on it regardless.
Oh well.
I'm excited!!

Hotel is booked.  I'm not staying on the strip.  Need to save some cash for those $154 tickets.  Christ that's a lot!

I'll be there! I'll have to change my plane tickets around that I bought for Coachella but that's easy.
Just gotta get tix and I have people working on that since I'll be in London on Saturday. Lots of good hotel deals in Vegas right now thanks to the recession, though, so that's a plus.
I hope for $150 bucks Robert's going to take my ticket personally, maybe with a kiss and a rose. ;)

I'm staying at the Hampton Inn Tropicana Las Vegas.  Stayed there several times.  Pretty nice off the strip hotel that about two miles from The Pearl Theater.  Prices are as follows:

$99  1 King
$109 2 Doubles

Advance purchase will save you about $15.

edit:  Oh yeah, they have a bar.  Not that finding a watering hole in Vegas is difficult.   Also, shuttle service to/from the airport and to The Strip.

I'm still trying to work this one out.  I'm trying to get the wife to go with me, but she wanted to go to Toronto for a concert in May, plus we're going to Hawaii in June.  Not sure that we can get anyone to watch the kids this weekend or not.  I may just have to throw a pissy fit until she tells me to go by myself  ;)

Yes, it's GA.  I called the venue yesterday and asked that very question along with capacity.  Reports on COF are that the floor holds 700.  Presale GA/floor tix are gone.

Allegedly the pit capacity here is only 760.
They're up to "row" GA07.
Isn't each GAxx row allocated for 99 seats?
If so, very possible the whole pit was released.
This is insane, presales are usually such crap.

I'm not sure how they work GA ticket allocation.  That sounds right, though.  If what you say is correct, they're about out of GA tickets!  That is just crazy to release them all during the pre.  There's going to be some upset fans come Saturday.

HUGE thanks to pink ego box for the code.  :-D

This is like the first time since the days before TM.com of waiting on line all night to buy tix from a store that the fans aren't getting screwed.
I wonder if they released so many good seats due to the Springsteen controversy?

Glad to hear it.  And yeah, lots of pit tickets and good seats still available.  Even some of those box seats along the side are available.  I've always wanted to see a show from that vantage point.  Of course I'd rather it be a show I didn't like so I could talk smack about it like the two old guys from the muppets.

High ticket prices + a bad economy.  Could be the people that would normally make the trip from LA are going to Coachella.  Could be people in Vegas are more interesting in Carrot Top and Barry Manilow.

I don't get it either.  I'm sure as non-Cure fanatics make their plans for Vegas and are looking for something to do the show will sell out.

Those of you who bought tickets during presale and with the code found online -
it says on ticketmaster you have to use a citi card to purchase tickets.
Have any of you logged on to your ticketmaster account to make sure your tickets are still there? I was hoping that wasn't why there were so many pit left during general sale was because of all the non citi card members using the same number then not using a citi card and it just piling back into the pool.

Order status is still the "tickets are being printed" thingy, and card has been charged, time will tell.
Think they would have canceled the order by now though?

I opted for Ticketsfast and printed them out immediately.  Just checked My Ticetmaster and everything is still okay.

The reason there were so many GA tickets left was there are over 700 GA tickets and casual fans don't seem to be interested in he show.  Good seats can still be had all over the place.

and it doesn't look like there is a bad seat in the whole venue!! i guess it's just your preference of standing or sitting

A friend of mine just saw Oasis there and said the same thing.  He's a big time Cure fan, having dished out some $$$ for a meet and greet, travelled the globe to many shows, and so on.  He's opting for a seat because the seats offer a better view and are very close.  I thought about doing the same, but in the end I need to be sure I'm near the speakers.  ;)  GA for me.

btw, punx_chix, great to read you'll be making the trip.  One more from the great NW.

Well I'm glad I was paranoid for nothing.

I really wish I would have gotten seats on the side close to the stage. I don't feel like fighting for the front especially since you can't line up early. I know I'll end up getting stuck behind someone tall. I'm REALLY short too.
But my sis and niece want pit...who am I kidding I want to be right in front of Simon.

Someone on COF called and was told no early line up.  It'll be another mad dash, much like The Troubadour.  Though, this time I hope we won't have to run through red lights and avoid traffic!

ahh, here:
" line up starts at 6:30 and the rude lady on the phone says that security is tight. then I said oh great then its just going to be chaos come 6:30 and she replied, pretty much yeah.  "

I guess we just have to loiter by the closest slot/table to the entrance.

Post by: pink ego box on March 03, 2009, 16:07:37
I was reading about another concert they had there in november and it was said a security guard stands around to make sure no one lines up.
Wouldn't it be easier to let us line up in the lobby of the pearl or on the stairs inside or even form a line outside on the sidewalk?

Some Cure peeps were saying they were getting there at 8am. That is a long time to linger by the slots isn't it?
I'm staying across the street so I guess I'll randomly check all day.

But mad dash is right. I seen thatand avoided it! At the Troubadour I was far back in line but luckily I was able to find an empty spot in the 2nd row. I doubt there will be empty spots this time.

Troubadour was nice.
This one were going to be packed in like sardines.

It's far from the lobby....

I'll probably get there around noon if I don't end up staying there.

I wish I could afford to stay at the palms. We probably could have but by the time we booked our flight the airfare doubled.

I meant The Pearl's lobby not the Palms.

We got a room off hotels.com for this place :
http://www.goldcoastcasino.com/
It was under $300 for 3 nights. Has free shuttle to the strip and you can walk to the Palms.

The Pearl looks like it holds more than 2,400 but once you are in the front it won't maater, the view looks really good and a lot closer than arena stages.

I was informed while we were sitting in the balcony waiting for the NME Awards to start that Valerie had snagged pit tickets for us during the presale earlier that day!
I don't mind telling you I got a bit emotional. Blame jet lag but I was so relieved and so happy. See you guys in VEGAS!! As of right now we're staying at the Rio.
Now I just have to work out getting to Coachella from Vegas!

Hey Plainsong.  Glad you'll be making the trip to Vegas.  I was looking at the Rio as well.  It's right next to The Palms and is quite a bit cheaper.  As the date gets closer I'm planning to see if I can find an air + hotel deal that will get me an even nicer rate for the Rio.  For now I'm sticking with the Hampton.  pretty sure i'll be changing, though.

Having been to Vegas a million times, a taxi is absolutely your best option.  The Palms is only 5 miles from the airport.  No way am I going to sit on a bus for an hour and pay $2, when for about $10 I can be there in 10-15 minutes.  Just make sure that you get a taxi from outside the terminal at the "official" taxi stand.  There are rogue unlicensed taxi drivers inside that offer you cheaper rates, but don't trust them

It all depends on what you are in to.  Obviously lots of gambling, shows, shopping.  If you are renting a car, drive out to Hoover Dam- http://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/.  It is only about a 30 minute drive.

There is also Red Rock Canyon- http://www.redrockcanyonlv.org/

Red Rocks is pretty cool.  My favorite part was all of the wild horses running free.  I've never been to the Grand Canyon, but I have flown over parts while flying to LA and San Diego.  Stunning from the air.  I can only imagine it from the ground

I was able to book a room at The Rio for $115 a night by signing up for their reward program.  Normal price is $155.  The Rio is only about a five minute walk to The Palms, so a great location.

http://www.riolasvegas.com/casinos/rio/hotel-casino/property-home.shtml

Sign up for their rewards programme and you should get an e-mail offering 30% off in April.  Or, give this link a try:

https://www.harrahs.com/AvailabilityCalendar.do?propCode=RLV&packageCode=IRMDS&numAdults=1&numChildren=0&displayCode=&startingMonth=2009-04-01&KEY=599362-599342&EDID=4T1N90-TUZRG-02DJGT-OJ7AZN-T09AF-v1

Hey, the price dropped to $112 overnight.

Yeah, the airlines are brutal!  I haven't seen much of a price drop, if any, over the past couple of weeks.  Meanwhile, flights are filling up.  I might end up using miles for a free or reduced ticket.

Damn.  No such luck.  Vegas.com has a double price difference guarantee, where they will give you back double the difference if you find a rate lower than the one they have on their site within 24 hours.  The Rio was on vegas.com for $160, and I got a room for $112, for a $48 difference.  Times 2, that is $96.  $96 from their $160 rate is $64.  My claim was declined:

Thank you for using VEGAS.com to book your Vegas travel.

I went through southwest for our flights. I think it was $109(before taxes etc) each way from Florida. We aren't leaving for home until Sunday. For the Carson Daly/Troubadour/Kroq shows I had a flight out at 630am the morning after and I will never do that again. I got 2 hours of sleep. I'm too old for that.

I hope someone is going to record this show..?

No kidding.  I had an 8am flight out of LA after the KROQ show, but the worst was the Trilogy shows in Berlin.  I had a 6am flight to Frankfurt the morning after the last show, then I flew home to Philly from there.  Those had to be the absolute most torturous flights I have ever been on.  I was so hung over/still drunk on the bus to the Berlin airport (and even vomited on the bus!)

" and he played 40 minutes and didnt do a f*cking encore, and i'd saved so much to buy the tickets, and traveled up from crawley, and im sitting there, and im like 'ahhh' then the lights went on

and it tought me a big lesson, i thought this is wrong, however good you are this is like really short changing the people that are really high up.

and i always remember that and when i look up, and i think theyre the people who have traveled a really long way and saved up to come see this.

and thats why weve had this sort of like work ethic that the cure have although it is enjoyable its not really work.

but it honestly come from that one experience , i wanted to go on all night, i was so disturbed by it.

i sat there and the lights go on, and you dont want it to end because youre seeing something really really good

its that feeling right there, and i was moved out, and it stuck with me. "

Anyway, if something were to happen everyone will just need to hang around for a few more days. This would certainly make up for any lack of Cure:

A rather dull version but then it might be just a trick of the soundquality. Was it a good show?

yeah that was weird - what is/was wrong with simon?  :smth017
the first encore was awesome: the kiss was truly amazing, the best i've ever heard live :rocker then the second encore was already messed up (not just a forest but most of the other songs too) - and then they never came back on stage at all...
was it just(?) simon being pissed off or was there or curfew or something?
at some point robert said 'the night is young, it's going to be a long evening' so everyone was surely expecting more than just two encores.
besides, when they left the stage after 'a forest' robert didn't say anything, no thanks, nothing. he never leaves the stage like that so i think they were clearly going to come up on stage again.

anyway, a great night, nevertheless. some highlights for myself were 'the kiss', 'from the edge of...' (a great version!), 'pictures of you', and 'want'. oh and of course: no 'the only one'  - and no 'freakshow'.

it was nice to meet everyone at the palms. :D  :smth039

ok, we're off to red rocks with brian. then he'll auditioning for chippendales later tonight.  :smth023 ;)

according to the ticket/advert the showtime was 8 pm but they didn't start until around 8:45 pm.

Sounds like a great performance to me, but the sound of the bass is really messy โ€” like it was too loud and echoing all over the place. Don't think that's Jeff's fault, though.

Did it really sound like that everywhere in the venue?

I was a pretty good show.  The start was really nice with Underneath The Stars > Prayers For Rain > A Strange Day.  After that things got really boring and predictable.  I was hoping and really figured a few more album tracks from the 4:13 would be on the set.  No biggie, though.  The band sounded great!  And that certainly made the "show" better.  There was a big f*ck up at the start of Inbetween Days.  I think Robert thought they were playing Push since he grabbed his electric and they always play Push before Inbetween Days.  He joked about it after, saying something about how he didn't need to introduce songs because everyone knew them.  but then maybe he should since they don't know them.  :P  Want was great to hear again and in my opinion saved the show (along with The Kiss).  I prefer it early in the set, but it works later.  Hungry ghost is always nice.  Strange to not have the images and spinning lights during one Hundred Years.  Best part of the show was The Kiss.  What a great live song and they nailed it.  :rocker I think there's already been some talk about Simon being in a bad mood.  He sure seemed like it.  Spitting loogies in the air during Shake Dog Shake, Throwing his bass to the ground after The Kiss, no bass outro during A Forest.  Not sure what his deal was or if it had anything to do with them not coming back for the planned third and fourth encores.  :smth017  That's one theory.  The other is an 11:00 curfew.  They came on 45 minutes late and it looked like a three hour set.  Can't really do that when you start so late and "if" there's a curfew.  Not sure if there was or not.  It was just really odd for Robert to not give the standard "Thank 'Q", "It was f*cking excellent", and "See you again" before leaving for good.  Makes me wonder if they pulled the plug.  Could have been that Simon refused to go on.  I don't know and i didn't like it.

Fun times, though.  Nice to have seen j and jb again.  Also to have met so many others.  :smth006

Oh, and it didn't sound echoey in the theater, but my recording is that way, too.  The low end is a real mess.  Of course it didn't help that I kept having to move due to the constant chatter of drunks EVERYWHERE!   Another thing about the sound, the stacks were set wider than the theater floor.  Made it difficult to figure where to stand.  Didn't like that one bit.  Maybe I should have just stood in the middle for balance purposes instead of trying to get near the stacks in order to avoid crows noise.  It was impossible to not pick up chatter, so perhaps I made the wrong decision there.  Oh well.  In the end I'm happy with where I stood to watch the show.

The entire night was full of annoyances.
Did any of you go into the pit when they opened the doors. omg what a nightmare!! I'm surprised someone didnt get killed. They need to fix how they run things there.
Full of rude people like some gigantic guy and the girl he was with. ugh.

Thanks to my niece and sis they got front row on Simon's side a little to his left.
Yes Simon was in a strange mood the whole night. He smiled at us at the start of the show and said something and gave us weird silly looks randomly. But he wasn't his usual cheerful eye glaring self on stage. He ran around more than normal, drank a lot more and danced more. He got really annoyed on the 1st encore and played the ending of The Kiss like he was bored and threw his bass down.
Didn't finsih A Forest either.
:(

Yeah, the first couple sets of stairs were treacherous with everyone pushing.  I thought for sure someone was going to fall and get trampled.

Scratch that. I was simply going by memory and got confused when someone recently provided me with a false date for the Mountain View Download Festival in 2007, which featured the debut of The Only One.

As the Mexico shows came AFTER the Download Fest, the last show to not feature The Only One (not counting Vegas) would be Auckland 2007. Ah, what a great show that must have been.  8)

I know what you're saying, Sullen.  I slept for 12 hours Saturday night into Sunday, then another 10 last night.  I usually get about 6 hours if I'm lucky!

I had high hopes for the sound, but wasn't impressed.  I started out centered directly on Roberts microphone stand, about 10 feet in front of the board.  By the end of the show (out of necessity because I am 5'10" and I swear everyone else was 6'7"!) i was about DFC on the floor.

Their regular board op was not with them and they had guys on the board that I did not recognize. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or not.

I'm not sure if this has even made COF yet, but it was confirmed by a couple of fans who ran into the band after the Palms show that Robert hurt his hand when his guitar string snapped during The Kiss. It was very swollen after the show that night and was still visibly puffy last night at Coachella and two of his fingers were bandaged. He was rubbing his arm when the band left the stage after the main set. No word on what exactly the injury was (a cut? a broken finger? who knows?) but he definitely was in some pain...but he kept playing through it like a pro!! Obviously on Friday if he'd just hurt it he couldn't keep going so maybe it's on the mend by now. Anyway, that's why the show stopped a little early in Vegas and there wasn't any big drama, just one of those fluky injuries.
It was still a fantastic show and it was so good to see the Curefans there--especially to meet Japanesebaby who came from so far away!! I'm still so surprised we saw you! :)

Yes, he threw his bass down and then chucked his pick over his should liek he didn't care.  He was very chilled throughout the whole show. Porl was a bit of a tiger though. He did look a little creepy with his eye make-up, tatoos, and goth jewlery.

All in all it was a great show and Robert's voice sounded amazing.(he nailed ..deep green sea) :smth023

about the concert, more details later but i was going to say that i still think it was still better than the 4tour european shows which i saw last year, even in this truncated form. although it was a bit of a rollercoaster, some songs were really really good: 'pictures of you', 'from the edge...', 'the kiss'. not untypical songs so once again they'll look dull in the setlist, but the versions were just really fine ones, great performances. that's what matters most (at least to me). the european shows were certainly of more constant quality but also pretty much lacked such highlights (at least to me).
just some of the audience were really dumb there at the pearl. i suppose some people think that GA means the same as hanging out in a bar: there were some people who kept just talking to their friends literally all through the show, not even paying attention to what was happening on the stage at all. wt...?  :smth011
but never mind that, don't want to dwell in the negative.  :D

Seriously!  People kept on going in and out for drinks where I was--did you come to drink, or did you come to see The Cure?

The show for me was definitely VERY bittersweet.  They started out SO GOOD (Just like the f*cking record, nearly!), and it was wonderful to see them.  The sound was great where I was (203).  But it does hurt my heart a little, seeing what could have been, because of course I always want more anyway!  I've been trying not to hurt, trying not to stress out about the "reasons why"...  I don't want these things to discount from the wonderful experiences I had!  I had a lot of stuff go wrong this weekend (our plane was delayed 8 HOURS, and we just barely got there in time for the show!).  I basically missed out on a whole day of my short vacation because of this delay, and I didn't get to go to any of the meet ups.  I am thankful that I got to go at all!  But I do transition from feeling sorry for myself because of all that I ended up missing, and for the enormous amount of money that didn't get it's full value because of these mishaps, back to being SO f*cking EXCITED and tingly inside because of what I did get to experience.

sorry to hear you lost all that time because of airlines. that sucks.

but yeah, i've never seen so many people just going back and forth between the bar and the floor, all the time, back and forth, back and forth... i suppose there were lots of people there who weren't even fans, mostly looked like some rich young kids who were there just in order to drink and have a constant blah-blah-blah. i don't know where you were on the floor(?). i was on porl's side.
my oddest memory of the show is during 'disintegration'. there was this idiotic guy with his similarly idiotic girlfriend just literally simulating every possible ****ing position in front of me, totally uninterested in the show, both very drunk and just giggling and grabbing each other etc etc. my god it was just appalling, and surreal - especially considering there was something like 'disintegration' playing on the background.
all you could do was to shut all that out of your mind, really. i could have been REALLY annoyed by it (and in a way i was too), but before the show i had decided not to let anything, whatever it was, to distract me or ruin it for me. just tried to keep focused on all the good things, then i wouldn't be so pissed off later.

by the way it was kind of odd to see the show without any background screens and/or extra lighting rigs at all. just a black background and very basic lights.  in a way i actually liked it, how there was nothing else but the songs.

I wasn't on the floor, I was in seats--section 203, row N.  And A TON of the seats in front of us ended up empty by the end of the show!  I thought it would be mostly fans at that show, but I guess it was just a lot of rich people who wanted to drink and go to a show.

I had wanted to be on the floor, but my mom was coming with for her first Cure show, and she didn't want to stand.  She's even shorter than me, and my whole family has bad backs.  I told her that you don't feel pain when you see The Cure, but I wanted her to have a good time, and I wanted to experience the show with my family, so we sat.  And it ended up being a good thing, because we got there so late that we probably would've had a pretty poor seat in the pit!

It definitely was a different experience having the band play with limited lighting and no backdrop.  I saw them without a backdrop at Sasquatch, but they still had all the lights up.  This was my first time seeing them with a big screen, though--sometimes it was hard to know what to watch!

I can't believe your Disintegration story, though--that's just horrible.  You should've cut in front of them, because they obviously didn't care about what was happening on stage.  I know what you mean about not letting the negative in, though.  That's always my goal.  Each concert, I go hoping to have less regrets--that I'll be more aggressive, try to get backstage if I can, etc.  Because a LOT of people have ended up backstage just by sweet-talking security, so why not me too?

That is the truth. A friend of mine got backstage during the 4tour by asking the guard standing at the backstage entrance. During Curiosa my then 13 year old niece sweet talked 4 aftershow passes out of The Cure's security and a girl talked her way back with us. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But it doesn't hurt to try!
But they didn't stick around after The Pearl show. Someone said they left immediately?

I feel everyone's disgust with people leaving to get beer etc. At their south Florida show last summer I was surrounded by those people. Half the time my view was blocked. So annoying. At the Pearl I was front row but far off stage left but close enough to see so no beer runners around and Simon came and kneeled down at the edge of the stage in front of us to play. That was the highlight of the night for me.

about the possible 11 pm curfew (IF there was one, like said, i don't know for sure):
according to the ticket/advert the showtime was 8 pm but they didn't start until around 8:45 pm.
how can there be a curfew in a city that never sleeps?

they finished early cause Robert's hand was injured. end of speculations :)

Excellent choice BTW.  That floor was not very forgiving.  My feet were killing me even during the first hour of the show (even though I wear them every day, Doc Martens are not really conducive to standing on concrete for long periods of time!).  They hurt so bad that I was sort of limping on the way back to the Rio!

Now on to my story about annoying a-holes....there is a certain person that is at most Cure shows in North America.  I will refrain from mentioning this person here, but let's just say he is an old friend of the band.  And I actually talk to him at most shows.  Part way through the show, he ended up next to me and started to smoke pot.  A guy and his girl on his other side started giving him shit about it.  The prick laid into them, and tried to pull rank saying that he has known the band for 25 years and he can do what he wants.  Needless to say, for being such a "tough guy", once the guy went to get security, he high-tailed it out of there!

i still don't get it why robert didn't even say a proper goodnight to the crowds.  :?

by the way about the security, at least where i was standing (on porl's sde) the security repeatedly came to tell you to stop filming if you were trying to take any videos with your camera. even if you took only short clips and with a simple pocket camera. it was ok to take photos but not videos - i found that really odd.
after the same security guy came to shout in my ear to stop filming twice during 'lullaby' i didn't bother taking my changes again. i was pretty pissed because i had specifically taken an extra camera battery with me, just in order to take a lot of video clips.  :x
i also saw a couple of guys smoking pod here and there but the security seemed to get to them really fast. the floor section was so small that i guess it was easy for them to keep a sharp eye on everyone. i doubt it that anyone would have managed to film the show from the floor, had he/she tried.

I was dead center, about 15-20 feet in front of the soundboard

yah!!!!! that floor sucked so bad.
my feet never hurt that much from a cure show.
i think i even wore the same boots in MEX 07 and those were longer shows and 3 nights,
not to mention wandering the city all 3 days rather than sitting in front of a Vpoker machine all day this time... WTF

i stayed away from poker but one day i totally killed my feet by walking all the way from the stratosphere tower to the south strip - huh. it was "a bit" longer than it looked like.
by the way i couldn't even think about getting into one of those crazy machines on top of the stratosphere tower in that mini amusement park up in 350 m (1149 ft) - they are simply insane.
but this was cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVaNF1E1myo&fmt=18

I went on the Big Shot ride before. I didn't think it was very scary. I mean, it's right in the middle of the roof โ€” so it's not like you'd fall off the entire building if something went wrong. Really no different than a ground-level amusement park ride, just a better view.

Now, if it were located right along the edge of the tower that might be a different story. And yeah, those newer rides are super freaky. Not sure what to think about those!

yes, i meant those.

insanity (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKiUWv_eYak) & x-scream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTWpihk-m1l) (maybe doesn't look so bad but it's 350 meters high up above the ground level...)

So here's the back story to my Vegas trip....I was scheduled to leave Philly the Thursday night before the show.  My flight was oversold, so I volunteered to get bumped.  I was originally in coach class from PHL>MSP, then first class from MSP>LAS.  They rebooked me on the 6am flight out of Philly Friday morning, in first class the whole way.  They also gave me a $300 voucher and $20 in meal vouchers.  The gate agent did not rebook my ticket correctly and ended up putting me on a full fare first class ticket, which just meant that I got an additional 50% bonus miles, plus Northwest is running a triple mile promo for full fare tickets.

Now for the best part...initially the flight I was scheduled to take was about $700.  My wife found the same flight through NorthWest vacations, including 2 nights at the Riviera for $330.  Factor in the $300 voucher, plus the $20 in meal vouchers, and my flight plus 2 nights to Vegas cost me a total of $10!  :smth023

wish i was that lucky... i don't even want to start counting all the expenses of the trip (i've promised myself not to - so don't ask!).

by the way that overbooking must be some US-only kind of thing. i've never come across that in europe: here when you buy a flight ticket for a certain flight then you can count on having a seat on that plane.
i witnessed this on my flight back (washington D.C. > frankfurt): united had seriously overbook that flight, there must have been some 15-20 people on stand-by or something. eventually they had to start looking for a volunteer pilot to take another plane to frankfurt as soon as possible. thankfully i had secured my seat already when i left from vegas - i seriously don't know what i would have done, had i been told to stay on stand-by.
anyway, that is just totally odd and new to me, the way it works over there.

My flight to Vegas from Nashville was overbooked too but they were offering only $100 credit to give up your seat and I wasn't having any of that. Southwest is a little tight with the credits!
My flight HOME from LAX had to bump a couple of people because of the heat in LA that day--the plane was overloaded and couldn't take off! I could have very happily lived without knowing that.
