I actually disagree with you guys. I think WMS is a strong album with the songs on its own. I think the problem is people focus on what a Cure album should sound like or what they want a Cure album to sound like and aside from a few tracks, Wild Mood Swings sounds nothing like that aside from maybe a few tracks and the B-Sides.

It took a long time for the album to grow on me but I think its worth the effort since now its one of my favourite Cure albums (Id rate it equal to Wish) and It has some of the best lyrics RS has ever written. I think all the tracks are good and the only one that would be removable is Round&Round&Round. I think the B-sides are amazing too but they are what they are. Their part of the reason why Join the Dots is so awesome.

For Me: Wild Mood Swings 8.4/10

Well, I don't have a specific preference for what a Cure album should sound like. I love 17 Seconds, Pornography, The TOP, KMKMKM, for instance... They sound VERY different from one another.

For me the main problem with WMS is not a lack of style consistency or a failure to deliver songs that "sound like Cure songs". It's just that most songs on that album are not good enough, in my opinion.
Apart from "The 13th", which sounds fresh and fun (a bit like some KMKMKM tracks, but without copying them), the pop songs have no spark, the choruses sound hookless... Then I like the atmosphere they're going for with some slower atmospheric songs - that acoustic guitar plus live strings thing, which apparently was inspired by the works of Nick Drake (by the way, you all would do well to check albums like 'Five Leaves Left' or 'Pink Moon', if you haven't yet) and which is somehow different from their previous work. But then, apart from having good and somewhat 'different' arrangements, I don't think these songs in themselves are particularly brilliant... That is, if put to the 'acid test' of being played merely with a piano or an acoustic guitar, they would not stand out as great songs.
