I plan to fly in from Germany - how far is the venue from the airport? Do you recommend a taxi?

Transit directions to Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort from the McCarran International Airport

You have to take two buses and the whole way is about 1h. Buses everytime leaving from the airport. Check the link above for detailed info :smth023

hello together,

I plan to fly in from Germany - how far is the venue from the airport? Do you recommend a taxi?

cheers,
S.

Having been to Vegas a million times, a taxi is absolutely your best option.  The Palms is only 5 miles from the airport.  No way am I going to sit on a bus for an hour and pay $2, when for about $10 I can be there in 10-15 minutes.  Just make sure that you get a taxi from outside the terminal at the "official" taxi stand.  There are rogue unlicensed taxi drivers inside that offer you cheaper rates, but don't trust them

thanx so much for your kind replies! Do you have also some touristic hints as I will stay there for 3 days?:-)

It all depends on what you are in to.  Obviously lots of gambling, shows, shopping.  If you are renting a car, drive out to Hoover Dam- http://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/.  It is only about a 30 minute drive.

There is also Red Rock Canyon- http://www.redrockcanyonlv.org/

i'd really like to visit/see that. and grand canyon, death valley etc.
never will, i suppose.  :(

Ay, in the very temple of Delight
Veil'd Melancholy has her sovran shrine

Red Rocks is pretty cool.  My favorite part was all of the wild horses running free.  I've never been to the Grand Canyon, but I have flown over parts while flying to LA and San Diego.  Stunning from the air.  I can only imagine it from the ground

I was able to book a room at The Rio for $115 a night by signing up for their reward program.  Normal price is $155.  The Rio is only about a five minute walk to The Palms, so a great location.

Sign up for their rewards programme and you should get an e-mail offering 30% off in April.  Or, give this link a try:

Hey, the price dropped to $112 overnight.

Thanks, Brian.  Just got mine for $112.  Not sure yet if I am staying there yet or not...all depends on how much the airlines gouge me for!

Yeah, the airlines are brutal!  I haven't seen much of a price drop, if any, over the past couple of weeks.  Meanwhile, flights are filling up.  I might end up using miles for a free or reduced ticket.

I'm actually trying to do something through vegas.com for the room.  If I read the fine print correctly, I may get a room at the Rio for $64!  I'll post once I figure it out  :smth023

Damn.  No such luck.  Vegas.com has a double price difference guarantee, where they will give you back double the difference if you find a rate lower than the one they have on their site within 24 hours.  The Rio was on vegas.com for $160, and I got a room for $112, for a $48 difference.  Times 2, that is $96.  $96 from their $160 rate is $64.  My claim was declined:

Oh, well, worth a try, I guess!

Good try, j.  Damn the fine print!

Finally got my trip booked.  The flight I am on was going for $560 for the flight alone.  I went through NWA Vacations and got that flight plus 2 nights at the Riviera for $368.  Not the optimal location for my hotel, but at least I'll be there.  I also have a 7am flight out of Vegas the morning after the show.... :smth011
