the new single will be released on May 13th and it will be called "The Only One" (formerly known as Please Project and in a 13mix version, different from the one that will surface on the album) and it will contain the b-side "Ny Trip" (it won't be released on the album)
plus, every month from here to August (so, 4 months) they will release a new single with a new b-side.
here it is, coverart for the single (from CoF) :

this should be the schedule for the new singles:
May 13th - The Only One (mix 13) + Ny Trip (CD, 7", Digital Download)
June 13th - Single #2 (mix 13) + new non-album b-side (CD, 7", Digital Download)
July 13th - Single #3 (mix 13) + new non-album b-side (CD, 7", Digital Download)
August 13th - Single #4 (mix 13) + new non-album b-side (CD, 7", Digital Download)
I don't know what you think but I find it a great news !
:smth023
sure it is,
i'm excited,
and so curious to listen to the studio-mix of "The Only One" and to "NY Trip" !!!
:-D
if the single respects the album there should be a "light side" and a "dark side" and the cover-art seems to go in this direction.
wow this is exciting..i feel all tingly!
I hope it's all true ;)
today is happy day :smth038 :smth041 :smth026 :smth033
...and I really like the artwork.
i mean, it's so.... Parched Art !!!!
Porl made a great job!

Wow this is exciting news! I cant wait to hear it!!! :-D
:smth020
:smth028
e questo e' solo l'inizio!!!!!!!
Four singles, each every month? I'm gonna bet that there will be no more than two singles.
Ouh, great!
And really, Porl's artwork is very good!
In my fav "dirty" style. Well, but we still waiting for the new album... :smth023
Woehoeoe Finally something (more or less) official, and me thinking it were all crappy fantasies hahaha. But still have to wait a bit!
Hey guys! Sleepingbags in front of the musicstores everywhere in the world? :P
I LOVE THE ARTWORK!
THE COLOURS KINDA REMIND ME OF WILD MOOD SWINGS
I LIKE THE FACT THAT THEY WINT WITH PLEASE PROJECT AS A FIRST SINGLE, THEY MUST HAVE SOMETHING THAT CATCHES YOUR EAR WITH THE FIRST FEW BEATS AND PLEASE PROJECT DOES EXACTLY THAT!
I HOPE IT'LL WORK FOR THE AIRPLAY...
:smth023
This is great news!
Love the artwork, also.
Great News ... :smth023
I have a great feeling about the new cure album.

:D :DHow interesting!!!!, at last!!! new single of The Cure already!!!, this is a great news.
I´ll be wait with happy when the single arrive to the shops or what better I can download free since any pirate web site.
Cheers!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D
So....4 regular singles with a artbox and downloadable singles. Plus an album due in September. All of this happening right around a major tour. I swear Robert plans these things. He finds out when Cure fans are busiest and low on funds, then-BAM! releases albums.
That band is gonna put me in the poor house. But I LOVE it! :-D :smth026

Yes N.Y. trip, that's how I understand it ...
Maybe it's to invite everyone to make the trip to New York the 20th of june ? ;)
now, at the risk of looking like a total goob, may I ask, this N.Y.Trip...is it one we know and has been renamed, like "Please Project" has become The Only One?
thanks...
The artwork alone is enough to get me terribly excited, particularly when you take into consideration the lack of art during the tour so far, reminds me of wish/wms.
I'm pretty sure N.Y Trip is in fact something yet to be heard. Who knows, perhaps it will be an instrumental.
don't forget they said 33 songs were recorded, and as it seems the album will contain 26 songs (13+13) (or at least, that's what i suppose).
7 songs are out of the album and then, 4 of this one will be used for the b-sides of the singles.
Yes you're right. And the 3 remaining songs will be for the remaster extra B-side CD in 20 years ! :?
one of the 3 songs left will be used for the next album :-D :-D
and the remaining 2 for deluxe editions in 2020.

Uhm...Anyone noticed this curious thing?
As far as we know we'll have 4 singles in 4 months, plus a double album with 13+13 songs...
The first thing that came in my mind was 4:13...
Just a curious coincidence?
(maybe it's just my mind... :-D)
WHO SAIS WE'LL HAVE 4 SINGLES IN FOUR MONTHS?
:?
it's still a "strong" rumor (99%) and it comes straight from Universal ,
but they will clarify everything on monday.

THE CHARTS WOULD HAVE TWO OR THREE CURE SINGLES ON THEM.
Thanks Yves28 for your answer and yes NeverForget I thinks 4:13 will be finally the name of the album ;)

Oh gosh, I'm so curious if all these things are true, it's well, well planned and well thought out in case it will all really happen like this...But actually I still have doubts, I'm not sure weather we are searching too much behind this all or if Robert & Mates put a real good effort in this to get into the spotlights again!

MAYBE I will come to London, to get this single because I really don't know if Poland will have it also on 13.05....
And also if it comes with this box for 4 singles...
All I can say to this is Hooray!
wonderful news!!! :-D :-D :-D

Yes please!! And if it all goes horribly wrong, and the Aus release date isn't the same as everywhere else, you should try the Red Eye Records website. They have 2 shops here in Sydney and generally have imports available very shortly after being released elsewhere. Their mail order service is impeccable. I've been buying all my Cure stuff from them for years.
...just make sure I have my copies first... ;)

this is probably the last of their problem,
i see this thing like a tentative to say sorry to the fans.
i mean, it's clear, probably only the first and the last single could be in the chart, but we need to check if these singles will have a videoclip,
that's the key for the market.
anyway, we'll see
it's a kind of "new" marketing strategy, and i have to say i like when they're not too traditional and then as i said, even though this kind of stuff is obviously to be sold (not only to the fans) there's that key of "sorry guys, now let's have fun"
well I'm very pleased with this news.

NO, YOU SEE, WHAT HE MENT WAS THAT THERE IS THIS INTERNET SHOP THING THAT CATERS TO YOUR EVERY NEED (BESIDE THOSE DEVIANT ONES) AND THAT EVEN YOU (WHERE EVER THAT IS WHERE YOUR PLACE OF RESIDENCE IS)CAN GO THERE, BY THE POWERS OF INTERNETS, AND BUY STUFF THAT WILL (IN COUPLE OF MONTHS) COME TO YOUR PLACE OF RESIDENCE, BY MAIL.

Good news!!! :smth023
Finally we have something FOR SURE...I hope so!!! :-D
Just one thing: we must modify the bootlegs covers where we wrote "please project" in the setlist!!!!! :-D
But why the official website is still mute on this fantastic news?
I will be very happy that The Cure can adopt such a non-commercial strategy (4 singles in 4 months) but I have doubt since they work for a major...
Anyway the cover is pretty good and also the choice... Please Project (or The Only One) has the right mood for a single

I'm sorry
Labyrinth, but I think that is utter bollox.
A "tentative sorry to the fans" for what?
They put on a tour, a good one at that. What's to say sorry for?
& Why is a videoclip so important? Chart positions were never a problem for Killing An Arab, or Primary were they?
Why should they be now?
&I think this sort of marketing has been tried before.
So now The Cure have to "market" themselves? Odd that.
Methinks it's more the dollar grabbing publishers who insisted on it.

hey,
did you forget what happened last year with the American leg? did you forget RS promised a "peace stone" that actually never happened? ?
do you think they don't know people (their fan) were getting bored from all this delaying stuff? the tour-the album and so on?
they're not "out of this world" and Smith knows the mood of the people.
they make music for themselves and this is right, because it's their music...but Robert knows some people is still disappointed by some of his late choices.

hey,
are we talking about the same era??? we're in the MTV-era, if you're not having any videoclip it's hard to put a single in the charts.
we can discuss if it's fair or unfair (and to me it's unfair, but here we are)

who said they have to "market" themselves? please, you quoted me but actually you didn't get my point, instead i was saying that it's not for the market that kind of strategy, it's impossible to put 4 singles in 4 months in the charts, and it could be easier to put them in charts if they would be released every 4/5 months: I think it's not only a mere money-making question.
and... find me another "big" band who used this kind of launching for an album ! 4 singles in the 4 months before the album.
i'm sorry but as far as i remember i can't find any other band.

I think I have to disagree here. Maybe MTV was a good way to promote your stuff in the past, but in the recent years, MTV have been losing some popularity, and you can see this by the poor reception (http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6368436.html) of the last MTV music awards.
The era we're living now is the Internet era. And like Radio Head and Nine Inch Nails, The Cure should take in consideration some marketing strategies on the Web, I think.
By the way, MTV is just sh*t. And I can't agree more with this comment I've found in a Blog (http://lefsetz.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/2006/09/03/mtv-2/):
"MTV today is just reality programming for kids. And the music "stars" they get to drop by are tools of corporations, slaves to the grind, the ANTITHESIS of rock and roll. With no one believing in the channel, it’s got no soul."
Quote from: dsanchez on April 27, 2008, 23:00:49

PLEASE NO!

PS
I THINK
PLEASE PROJECT SHOULD HAVE MORE SUCCESS THAN
TEOTW
Completely untrue. Bands are made by the internet. Blogs and YouTube are huge sources for promotion, and are in many ways much more important to bands now than radio play. Vampire Weekend is doing very well based almost completely on word of mouth and internet promotion. Same with Tapes & Tapes.
David, for what i think
it's nothing but GREAT that Mtv is losing popularity.
and if Internet ruins the surprise (setlists, etc etc) , i suppose it could be GREAT if used for promotion like Vampire Weekend or as you said Radiohead (i bought from their site the collector's edition, i'm old school maybe, but i love to have physical cds , vinyls, booklets and so on).
but I still think videoclips are important.

...just an idea. ;)
CD sales have dropped 35% since 2000, but vinyl sales are up 15% since 2005. Seems to me that vinyl, with the option of digital downloads are the way of the future.
SubPop is selling vinyl records with a code that lets you get a free digital download. Seems like the way to go to me.
Anyway,

Doesn't sound too good...It's nice to have a physical, sensuous, and, I guess, more romantic alternative to digital downloads. Don't know that much about vinyls, but I wouldn't mind that to change. Seems more interesting than CD's.

Hey guys, no I don't mean it like that, I just mean to say that I don't think they will just stop making cd's, maybe in the future yes they will put digital songs on the first place but don't you think there will always, maybe even after the official release, make that album on a cd format? Maybe just for collectors or something!

NOOOO!! my record player is broken - i love vinyl, and cds, heck i still play casettes! my peers are all about the ipod, which i dont have. (the ipod touch is the same price as a good turntable). one thing i dont like about the mp3 is that it feels less personal, and i dont like the quality. please robert.. keep the cds. other artists still do. and besides, the artist should think about others who find it more difficult to buy online, (i.e. lack of credit cards).
video clips! always, i believe its not only an important part of promotion, but the whole music experience.
CD will die before vinyl. 2007 saw the highest sellng 7" in the UK in something like 15 years (It was the White Stripes Icky Thump btw, who'd a thunk?)
It will come down to vinyl for the purists and mp3s for te chumps. I'll be getting the wax every single time.
CD isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Too many people enjoy having a physical album for it to just disappear. And I think the idea that vinyl will, at any point in the future, be more popular than the CD is ludicrous, really. Retro is appealing, but only to a certain extent. As for whether digital downloads will become the primary format for artists -- I'd agree with that, but I don't think we'll see it in The Cure's lifetime.
I'm extremely sceptical about Robert saying this will be the last CD Cure album. I really don't take it seriously at all. Sounds more like bad tabloid filler than anything else. The only way this will be the last CD Cure album is if this is the last Cure album.
Until then....
I don't remember exactly where I heard it, but i did. (i think that it was in a mexican interview...).
Anyway, I don't believe in this robert's words very much, because he said other time, he loves vinyls, so, if he loves vynils, he loves physical music material, just like us!
IF THE NEW SINGLE DOESNT GET SUBSTANTIAL RADIO AIRPLAY THE BAND GOES TO THE WHERE ARE THEY NOW CABINET PERMANENTLY...

OOhh mann.. kissy .. if this is true.. ( I have personally experienced a lack of 'order-ability' of The Cure here in oz ).. I guess i have to try "The Red Eye" as suggested.. i would HATE to miss out.
I need a new turntable.. and sound system.. to be able to play the new 7"... i pray to heavens that we will be able to get a CD on our shores!

Yes, Well looks like I don't need a credit card after all :)..silly me. 8)
Hi, Scatcat, I asked at JBHIFI on Elizabeth Street (melbourne).... he said they'll definitely try order them in BY lATE mAY. As you know the Singles aren't manufactured here..only the album. So I guess you could try there too. Is "red eye" a Sydney store?
I am not interested in what support will resist in the future: vinyl, CD, digital download... maybe all of them if there will be a costumer ready to spend money
I only don't understand why the music industry spends a lot of money and time in high quality music production and distributes digital downloads in mp3 format (or other lossy format)
I understand that 99% of music listeners like mp3 since is easy to use, light, etc (also in the past in Italy were sold more music cassettes than vinyls for the same reason... but the quality of the cassettes was inferior to vinyl), but the 1% of music lovers have the right to have a digital download in lossless format (FLAC and so on)
And, as fas as I know, also The Cure has proposed in the past digital downloads in lossy formats... a shame
Meanwhile no news on The Cure and Geffen official sites...

i'm pretty excited! i just hope that the 4 singles will be released here in Oz, without me having to order them from overseas! :D
Yes please!! And if it all goes horribly wrong, and the Aus release date isn't the same as everywhere else, you should try the Red Eye Records website. They have 2 shops here in Sydney and generally have imports available very shortly after being released elsewhere. Their mail order service is impeccable. I've been buying all my Cure stuff from them for years.
...just make sure I have my copies first... ;)
so say sues777!! ;)
I've got a mate who owns "Kill The Music" record store in Brisbane who's gonna try to order them for me. I'll let you know how I go so maybe the aussies can order thru Paul!

LOL, if your mate can get 'em... he'll be inundated by us curefans.com people!!! I just called JB Hi-Fi (Hobart, Australia) and spoke to a nice chap called Sam, he can't see a problem getting the vinyl stuff... so I'll hedge my bets and go thru them! Failing that there is always ebay or amazon or other places to hunt around. Where there is a will, there is a way!!!
Just got an email from Paul saying that he's gonna look into it now. As soon as i have some info, i'll post it here for the aussies to order from if they're interested.
Hey kissingcrimson and scatcat - yes, Red Eye is definitely a Sydney based store. You should take a look at their website - they get some really rare stuff through there sometimes.

Guess you aussies are covered then. Good for you! :smth019 So happy for you... :P
I'll probably end up ordering it from abroad, if the suspense gets to me. Us Swedes are so slow after all...
Got a reply from Paul [@ Kill The Music] saying he's ordered me a copy of the 7" and CD single and that he'd be happy to order more. I'm just getting his best method of contact and will post this soon [tomorrow I'd say].
Right-ee-oh.
Aussies who want this should call Paul from Kill The Music on (07) 3012 7751 and ask him to order the single(s).
He can get both CD and 7" black stuff.
Unsure of the mail out costs but I'm sure Paul will sort you out.
Good luck amigos!!
You can email Paul @ paulvoge@yahoo.com.au
Cheers nausearockpig... I looked at HMV, and it worked out about A$30 to get the single in CD and 7"... As far as JB Hi-Fi go, they haven't got it listed as yet, but I'm gonna wait and see what they want for them... Any idea how much your mate will want? Is there an email addy for Kill The Music?
Hey cherry red!!! Hope you've been well! :D
The official page finally was updated, "the cure.com" homepage even has a snippet of the new song on there. Nice. Rob posted that the site should be updated (new site) on May 13 too. So Freakshow will be our next single :)

No probs. Yes Paul has ordered me the 7" and CD singles so I'm sure he can do the same for you and anyone else.
Give him a go I reckon, he's a young bloke who started his own business so I'll be ordering whatever I can thru him even though it's not his usual stock he's happy to help out!

I've pre-ordered the CD single from Amazon.co.uk, and just noticed today that they've dropped the price from £3.99 down to £1.98. That's good news!
No mention of a 'collector's box' to store the 4 singles in, though :(
I've pre-ordered mine through HMV. All up it has come to around A$30.00, so am not terribly unhappy with that! I can relax knowing I have mine on their way after the 13th!
RSX is back to posting on the official site.

THE MAJOR CONFUSION
5/7/2008 1:45:12 PM - by CURE:ROBERT
A FEW OF THE MORE IRRITATING FALSEHOODS FLOATING AROUND...
1)
"THERE IS A "SPECIAL VERSION" OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""
NO THERE ISN'T
ANYONE THAT OFFERS OR CLAIMS ANY KIND OF "SPECIAL" VERSION OF THE FIRST SINGLE - WITH A BOX OR A FREE HOLIDAY OR WHATEVER - IS EITHER LYING OR STUPID
OR BOTH
2)
"THERE IS NO USA VERSION OF THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""
YES THERE IS
ITS JUST THE MIGHTY UNIVERSAL CANT GET IT TOGETHER TO EITHER
A) GET AMAZON ETC TO LIST IT
OR
B) GET IT OUT ON THE 13TH... IT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT $2.99 (OR THEREABOUTS) FROM MAY 20TH
APPARENTLY "NO-ONE BUYS CD'S ANYMORE"...
UNSURPRISING IF THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE EH?!!
3)
"X,Y OR Z HAVE 'EXCLUSIVE X,Y OR Z' REGARDING THE FIRST CD SINGLE "THE ONLY ONE""
NO THEY DON'T
IT WILL BE AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE
IT IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO ANY RETAILER
AND...
NO...
THATS IT FOR NOW!
BUT I AM SURE I WILL BE BACK..
RSX
So, there you go. No collectors box, no free holiday, no exclusive versions.
Hahahaha.... Nice to have The Boss clear that all up! :-D
WELL DONE MY DEAR ROB. FINALLY THERE IS SOMEONE TO SHUT UP THE SHITS.
a user on cof posted this:
http://es.juno.co.uk/products/311977-02.htm
1 minutes of the two songs
i really enjoyed The Only One live, or please project as it was the first time. but i dislike the official version, it dissapointed me, after i had such high expectatios from hearing it live. i prefer the arrangement of the older version. im not a big fan of the mixing, and i do hope the vinyl has better mastering this time around.
i think ill buy the Only One single - only because of the art, and Bside. NY trip, i think is alot better than the Only one - porl's guitar playing and the piano do it for me.
um.. does anyone know why Target.com is saying - "This single will be the first of four collectable singles released prior to the album. All formats will be limited collectors editions."
Is anyone expecting something from the Cure singles 2008 ?
I think and hope that the album will be more interesting...
let's see
Thanks for putting up the link for us labyrinth. I like the sound of

Will the US have the digital download option tomorrow, or will we have to wait a week like for the CD release?
Doesn't NY trip in places sounds like a faster beat of "the big hand"? or is it just me?

my discs are yet to arrive. grrrr..... 13th my arse....
I got this from amazon.co.uk today.

Dear Customer,
We wanted to give you an update on the status of your order #XXX-XXX-XXX.
We are sorry to report that the following items have been delayed:
The Cure (Artist) "The Only One (Mix 13) [Single]" [Audio CD]
Estimated arrival date: 30/05/08 - 11/06/08
We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
Anyone else?
I just looked at my Amazon account to check, and the message states:
"Please take note of the revised dispatch and delivery estimates marked in red below.
Your order contains 2 deliveries. (I also ordered a book.)
Dispatch estimate: 12 May 2008 - 13 May 2008
Delivery estimate: 15 May 2008 - 22 May 2008."
So I don't understand why they give you a later delivery date. Weird!
I also looked for the CD single on the HMV.com website, and it states:
"Release date: 13-5-2008. Availability: despatched within 7 days."
7 days! I wonder if there's some kind of distribution problem?
It's not as if I can just walk into a music store here in Norway today, and buy the single over the counter.
The other thing that's bugging me, is there is absolutely no details for the Freakshow single, supposed to be released 13th June.
I mean, Amazon have pre-release details of all sorts of things on their website, but there's no mention of any more future singles from The Cure. Nor on HMV either.
I guess we just have to be patient, and wait... and wait... and wait... :(

Yes - I'm still waiting as well...I pre-ordered the CD single last week through a local record store that specialises in imports and received an email stating it would be shipped within 2-3 weeks.....
I found some consolation though - just bought a copy from the Aus iTunes store - $2.99 for both The Only One (Mix 13) and NY trip. Ok, I'm just really impatient and had to have a copy NOW!! Glad I did though, sounds GOOD!! :rocker

Ah The Cure!! gotta love it!!!
and will no doubt dl the next three releases before buying them.. sweet The Cure-nerding...
:smth100 Is Amazon the only way to buy it? Does anyone know if we can get it anywhere else in France???

Stupid Italy.
it was supposed to be out last Friday (we usually get the records some days earlier because the distribution happens only on Fridays)..instead, it will be out next Friday for a trouble in the last week...
'till then we can't listen to the new songs (i mean, to NY TRIP...i listened to "The Only One" by streaming).
WHAT A SHAME!
and i'm going to buy it in vinyl and cd.
so far, what do you think about the songs?

YES to all of the above!!! I LOVE NY Trip too!! Excellent track!! The voice, the guitar!! Welcome back Porl! We missed you!!
And I completely agree with you kissingcrimson - it sounds very Wish-era to me as well.
And The Only One - LOVE that too!! IMHO the studio version blows the live versions I've heard away!
Ah, The Cure - in top form as far as I'm concerned!!

it's available in every "usual" store...
so far, fnac should have it. try to phone them and ask! ;)
Looks like amazon sold out. I had placed my order late after cancelling my order from ideal copy due to not wanting to pay lots for a non-existent box.
 The Royal Mail is going to recieve some hate mail if my CD doesnt arrive soon. HMV dispatched it last friday and its still not here. The post man has been to my house twice today but no cure single :smth011
If its still not here by 5pm i think i'll have to download it cos im sooo impatient and excited and i really want to hear it.
I guess I'll get it off stupid itunes later today....I want the vinyl and cd though...ohh well just have to wait a little longer to hold it my arms..mmmm
finally, i bought it via iTunes and i'll buy it both in cd and in vinyl (i would've preferred just cd and vinyl but the ITALIAN stores had to be too stupid, so for the curiosity,i downloaded it via iTunes and now i need to wait until the end of the week to buy the cd and the 7'' :smth011 )
NICE !!!
really!!!
The Only One is great as a single, i love it! and the thing i'm very happy about is the production, it was since "Wish" The Cure didn't sound like this.
GREAT to see also that it seems they're selling good! on iTunes the popularity of "The Only One" is very very.... "High" ;)
On amazon it seems alreay sold-out!
NY Trip as everyone said is very beautiful (it's a sort of Wish meets Wild Mood Swings' echoes)
obviously i've listened to them just twice,
i'll have more to say later in the day.

well, i'm trying to figure out how to download it...
it seems impossible to do it!
about the clip :
they are in a small studio, all the clip is in black & white and it's all on them...
they are playing and often the camera is on Robert singing and sometimes it goes on the BEAUTIFUL porl's guitar (full of stars). there is a lot of Robert, but also the band is present this time!
the lights are beautiful!
the song obviously is the studio version and close to the name of the video there is "Exclusive MTV".
anyway, i suppose it'll be out everywhere very soon.
strange here in Italy we have this kind of premiere! :-D

Thanks to labyrinth for the video links! I like the way it was filmed in Black & White. Very good for the 1st video! :-D
After hearing both songs a few times on the web, I like them both! It's great to hear some new Cure Music. I've pre-ordered the single for the US release next week. I would have gotten the import but it was sold out on the US version of Amazon and a few other places. It's quite good to see it selling!!! I'd like to get it now but I can wait a little while longer to get it in my hands. :-D
This morning, I heard The Only One on a local collage radio station in Philly & I've requested The Alternative Station...Radio 104.5 play the song today but I haven't heard it yet nor did I get a response. But I will keep sending them requests to get it on air if it is not already.

Ah.... (she mutters, with a contented smile on her gob!)
I knew someone would share the video etc... on here! You guys are such COOL people! Cheers labyrinth (love that ID name btw! - one of my fav. films!) & NeverForget for doing it.
I really liked the video, very simple. I'm still in two minds about the song itself however... don't burn me at the stake just yet though!! I think I was expecting a different sound. It sounds a little to same-y to me, and I was looking forward to a (dare I say it) techno-y sound! I think I just got it in my head they were going to move in a different direction musically. Seems I'm wrong! If you have heard Possession on the Join The Dots box set... thats the sound I was imagining! Anyway, I dare say when my CD and 7" arrive, I don't doubt I'll be loving it and singing along like the rest of you!!!
maling list competition?
"Tell us in 25 words or less which is your favourite album by The Cure and why?
to be in the running for an exclusive and extremely limited plaque commemorating the release of 'The Only One' single."
Yes I saw this competition. The awesomeness of the prize wasn't quite enough to motivate me to enter. Something more enticing would be a copy of the album, and it would probably cost the record company less to supply and post.
Iiiiih che bello....
Grazie labyrinth!
This is great, I'm so excited and I can't wait for the album.
I really do like the song, I think it's a good first single.
And I like the video in its simplicity (besides, I love black and white).
:smth023
I just saw the only one video. it is fantastic and the b/w is perfect for the cure

where'd you hear that from?
Hi, I saw it on The official mailing list email.
I still did not get it...
The song also played on local Los Angeles radio 98.7 yesterday, backed with info from the dj quoting Robert as saying that the new songs were all outtakes from the 80s
just like I wrote earlier, these are my photos of The Only One:

The Only One is from the 80's eh?
Explains the naughty lyrics, hihihi.... So are all the new songs we've heard so far old outtakes? Sleep When I'm Dead as well? Hmmm....
And
nevyn, many thanks for the pretty pictures. Do like that artwork...
I am little dissapointed that inlay is only two-sided...
How many discs did you buy Nevyn?
5...
4 for my friends :) I already sent 3 of them and one will be late birthday present :)

Thank you very much for your pics nevyn (uhm, must say that that blue inlay on a green base was cool, where were you?).
Tomorrow I'll have my copy (finally...I've been waiting for a too long time, couldn't resist, I had to download from itunes).
So, the inlay only has two sides?
I was having a "lunch-break" at Hyde Park's grass ;)
Yes, the inlay is only two-sided, and this is jewel case - not typical single case...
anyway,
this song is definitely a GROWER!!!
it grows and grows and grows everytime i hear it!
(and...NY Trip is Fabulous!)
I'm really liking NY Trip! I can see how some have compared it to Wendy Time...and I mean that in a nice way (I'm not one of those Wendy Time haters).
Robert's vocals sound so much better than they did on the self-titled.
yes, this album will kick arse!!
.. :( I have still yet to hear from JB HIFI here, and also javier's contact in Brissy... ) Hopefully by next week it will hit our shores.. anyone else from OZ got it yet?
TIA :?

Nice lunch break you had! In good company :-D
You're right, I didn't notice that it was jewel case until I've had the single in my hands. Strange.
Now that I've had enough time to stare to my copy (yeah, I was quite mesmerized, as usual), I must say that I do love the artwork.
Pretty clever the stamp on the cd itself, that eye/map...makes me wander in my thoughts, and about the possible meanings. I like it.

Oi scatcat! Hows things?... I ordered mine online through HMV, and both the CD and 7" are on their way over to Tassie, I hope to have 'em by the end of this week!
HERE IN SERBIA, ON RADIO B92 - THE ONLY ONE DEBUTED AT 17th PLACE (TOP 25 SINGLES)
Finally got my copy! :-D Really like the artwork! And the songs! :smth020
The fnac only had it this morning! Hope things will be quicker next month!
and it is still not on the charts here in Poland...
..no sign of it around here either.
just out of curiousity i went through pretty much every record store her today, and none of them even had it available, neither as a cd single or a vinyl. and in some stores they hadn't even heard that the cure even had a new single out...
btw strangely in some stores they insisted to me that the release date is may 21st, not 13th, and that's why they didn't have it yet.
i thought i was living in europe but maybe i'm in the US after all...(?)

I received an email from Red Eye on Fri - my copy's been dispatched, so it should be in my hot little hands by Mon or Tues :-D. According the the Red Eye website, they had the locally released version and UK and German imports in store last week. I'm therefore assuming the bigger chains have them available in store too? Hmm, may give pre-ordering Freakshow a miss and just pop in to the store on 13th June...seems quicker than waiting for it to arrive by mail.

Complete agree Plainsong!! NY Trip is GREAT - I LOVE IT!! Robert's voice is in top form and the playing is sensational! As nausearockpig said, this album's gonna kick arse!! Can't wait!!

luckily itunes gives us shitty lossy versions....

yes i had seen that. i had just understood that the single was supposed to be out in europe on may 13th and it was delayed (because of mighty universal) elsewhere, like in the states. i guess i got it wrong. i just don't get it why some other european countries have it available but we here don't (...racism...).
jb,
here in my city it was out on last friday (just in a few copies, 6 in a store, 15 in another store...that's very weird)
something makes me think "the mighty Universal" was not happy with this thing.
another one told me that they had it, but they couldn't sell until may 24th, i asked why and they let me see the note on their computer saying the it was supposed to be out on 24th May.
don't know what's wrong with this single, we're almost buying it when Freakshow is out.

you're right. but let's look at the bright side of it: we'll be lucky to have something to choose from then, whereas everyone else will have no choice but to spend their money on that poor freak thing.

to jb:
haha,
you're right...
but you know,i'm quite hopeful for the studio version of "Freakshow" , their first performances of it were awful, but it grows in every show (just a little bit, i have to admit, but it's better than the first shows).
;)
Today I received a copy of the 7" and Cd single. I'm Very pleased...when i held both
I was so excited (ouh and the nice new vinyl smell 8)) haha....cases and sleeve cards! perfect.
I put 'The only one' up really loud, it's fun song to dance around and sing to.
also on hmv.co.uk the cd version of the single is sold-out right now.
did you check it, or you have seen my comment on COF? :D
no,
i've bought the 7'' version a few minutes ago and noticed it.
;)
it is great to see The Cure single as second best selling single...
it's selling good almost everywhere,
and tomorrow it'll be out in the USA,too!
great!
of course i mean, eveywhere it's easy to find it.
in Italy just few copies were out.
I don't think it is available here in Poland in the other way then via Internet sales...

I didn't get a chance to pre-order the single on-line last week since I was away and today I went to Amazon and a few other on-line stores & they all list the single on backorder for both US & UK versions. Could it be that it is selling so well or is it just the problems with distribution in the US? I'll see if I can get it at the Circuit City or Best Buy store later tonight. Anyone having any problems today trying to get it on-line or anywhere else too?
certainly you won't get it from hmv.co.uk, as it is now listed as out of stock
hmm,
it's both things anyway...
a little bit is the "poor" distribution and the thing it's selling good,
maybe the mighty universal didn't expect it was going to sell so good?
i just checked and on amazon it's sold-out right now!
what about local store over there?
can you find it in the stores?
I'm going to try right after I get out of work. Will try Circuit City, Best Busy and a few other CD stores at my local mall. One of these places have got to have it hopefully. I should try calling them to see if they have any and save me a copy.
If not, I'll just have to place an order on Amazon and wait till it comes in.
i suppose it should be available in those big stores!
hope you get it! ;)

Thanks labyrinth! I would have gone on my lunch break but I won't have enough time to get to the stores. Too far away from my office.
Brisbane's Rocking Horse Records has the CD single. I saw it yesterday.
I picked up my black and silver discs today!!!
Finally my Only One CD arrived from Amazon yesterday - hurrah! I thought I was going to have to wait for ever!
I get to hear NY Trip at last. :smth020
Oooh, oooh, and I see that Amazon.co.uk have Freakshow listed now for pre-ordering.
(It's a bit expensive though, at £8.49, and it does state 'Import'. Hopefully the price will drop, just as it did for the Only One CD single.)
I just checked HMV.com and they have Freakshow Mix 13 7" single listed there now, for a price of £2.99.
It's all so exciting! :smth023

hope anyway, the only one.....hmm, nope!
the next one will find a better distribution!

Did you find the 7" [labyrinth] ? If not, i give you a link where you can buy it, if you're still interested. Okay, it will be out on May 30th 2008 as a UK-Import. The site is also in English. So here is the link: http://www.indietective.de/indieshop/index.html

ridiculous
I'm in the same boat, japanesebaby. All the shops around town either had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about the new Cure single, or they told me that they have stopped stocking CD singles altogether . It was the first time in all of my Cure collecting days that I've ever gone home empty-handed on a Cure record release day. The world has certainly changed while I wasn't looking. You can almost hear the creaking slippage as compact discs have slowly started their descent in the public's preference for new music delivery system. My colleagues and friends at work gave me good-natured grief all day at my increasingly frantic attempts to find a physical copy of the new Cure disc. No one could understand why I didn't just simply go and download the songs instead of waste time and money trying to track down a two-song CD single. I'm not sure how I feel about all of this.
I ended up just pre-ordering a copy on Amazon but even they have since sent me a mail asking for my approval to allow them more time to try to acquire a copy of the single :?. That download option is looking more and more appealing.
finally,
in these days i got my cd-single !!!!!!!!!!!
:-D
there is a big difference between the iTunes files and the cd....
and i'm waiting for the vinyl...
...and the release date around here is now being postponed from 21st to 28th may.
looking at it from here it's a complete joke, this one single/month schedule.
it seems you're going to buy the same day the album and the last single!
well, i got news that my 7" is on it's way from Brisbane ( thanks Javier!) ... as for the cd.. well, it is finally instore locally, ( I HAD TO ORDER IT SPECIFICALLY..) and i shall recieve it this week.. BUT the difficult thing is, as I was told by the retailers... Universal is in trouble.. either just here, or otherwise.. so i would expect delays..
I need a lift, I need to hear this new song, and i need The Cure.
Well I finally was able to order two copies of the CD single last week. One for me & one for my sister but I had to get them from two different web sites. Got one from Barnes & Noble (the last copy before they were sold out). The other CD I got from The Ideal Copy web site which a fan from another web site suggested to use if anyone still could not get a copy. I'll say Thanks to them even though I think they do not post one here.
I'll be getting the one from B&N tomorrow & hopefully from the other place today. It was quite a pain to find but luckily I was able get them. None of the stores around me still do not have a copy available to buy yet. I just hope this does not continue for the remainder of the releases but I expect it will since Universal seem to not seem to be able to get it together.
If anyone still needs to get a copy try the The Ideal Copy Web Site, they still have some available in the CD & 7 inch.
http://www.idealcopy.com/
look in our store if you have any trouble finding it in your local store...
that is with amazon...
and they say it's still available and ready for the shipping ;)
