COMPLAINTS:

The interview was WAAAY too short.

CONCERNS:

Too rough sounding, too much guitar. This is an old worry -- one that I've had since Roger left, but this interview seems to confirm it. "No overdubs" sounds like a deathwish to me. And the incredible amount of guitar.... Songs like "Cut" off Wish, while great, were never my favourite. I always thought "Apart", "Trust", and "To Wish Impossible Things" were vastly superior. The atmospheric side of the Cure, the one that we haven't seen since Wish, is one I'd like to see again. "The Cure" album was good. But it was also one of their worst.

According to Roger, they only played real live shows up until 1997. After that, they started to use all those annoying backing tapes on stage. That's also when their shows started to suck. I think it all began with the Dream Tour ... that's when I was standing there and couldn't believe that such a great live band was using so much prerecorded stuff at their shows. One of the biggest disappointments in my life.

well i do really think they've always played live everything but some sounds (like the "tishhhhhhh" thing in Faith and so on or maybe the bass-keyboard in Plainsong [they actually couldn't play that live) and nothing make me think it's not in this way..not even Roger...i saw them live and the sounds are those you hear played on stage...and no more..

about the show, their shows started to suck in my opinion just when Robert had a lack of interess in that line-up.
it's not a case that he called Porl to play some parts of guitar in the last album...

anyway , i still keep my finger crossed , 'cause i'm hopeful for the future and the next album and the next tour..and the next...

i think robert doesnÂ´t mean their live playing with overdubs....

he means recording.
recording as a live band.
recording all in one piece.
not overdubbing at recording .....

that means the record will sound like playing live, no extra edit.

sounds good i think.
but i canÂ´t imagine an album without keyboards.......

i didn't care if they used (or still use) backing tapes or not. they used to be a great live band until roger and perry had to leave...

On the subject of backing tapes....

Every band uses backing tapes at some point, but the stuff the cure uses with the exception of 100 years is mostly samples, which Jason hits on an electronic pad thing at the side of his drums....and if anything since the lineup change they have dropped most of the tapes (anyone remember the horrible one in End from 2000-2004?) and also The Baby Screams. A keyboard is all synthesised sounds anyway so im not that fussed.

If the new record sounds like the heavier stuff on Wish, ill be happy, but they can still pull off atmospheric stuff without keyboards, its not a problem. They have delay pedals....

Just 4 months to wait and see if the change was all worthwhile, i think it will be better than the last one.

well, i do really think everything would be very good [expecially for the things Robert is saying about the different genres and things like this] except for an album full of songs like "Us Or Them" (the song is not bad, but i wouldn't like a full heavy-rock-album)...anyway i don't think this will ever happen!

however, as i said a lot of times, i do really hope in a great record!
