Well, I'm ashamed but I coudn't watch the Perfect Boy video  :( Porl is really scary there!

Aw, that can't be. Porl being scary? I can't imagine it.  :)

I do agree with you about Pictures of You... especially the long version. Also...

In Between Days - I love the way Tim Pope used and manipulated the cameras for this one! Such a fun video. :-D

Charlotte Sometimes - It's like a horrible attempt at something poetic and dreamy that comes off as a terrible b-horror film which is why it's brilliant! :smth023

Other Voices - Love the lack of color and camera lens, incredible video!

Catch - Côte d'Azur!

Close to Me - Very innovative... love the little "instruments" everyone uses. Fantastic ending when they finally fall into the ocean.

High - Beautiful colors and light, beautiful Cure members, beautiful song.

Inbetween Days - because Robin said in an interview on 120 Minutes awhile back that he felt it really brought out the image of the Cure.

But I do like doing the "Why Can't I Be You" dance!  I had to rewind or play/search that video tape so many times to get the dance down right.  Ha!

Robert's nickname... Sorry to confuse you, I won't refer him to that.  Look in the Wish tourbook, I believe.

Just Like Heaven & Lullaby get my top votes. Catch is nice, but Lol messes it up with his violin removal, while on Fascination Street I recall Simon proping his hat back on!

Padme

Yeah, I like Lullaby too.  To me that's another video that shows their image as (well as Fascination Street.) I love the way they all look in Lullaby especially Robert covered up in spider webs.  He looked cool in Never Enough too when they were on the small stage.  That heavy black eyeliner looks great on him.  Catch is very beautiful & scenic.

That is so true. I've always thought of the video and the song as paradoxical, a bit hard to define, both happy and sad at the same time, just like The Cure... The downbeat color scheme together with the tickle-inducing camera movements, the melody that makes you want to skip together with the sad lyrics...really sets the perfect "Cure mood." Know where I can get hold of that interview, perchance?  :D

They talk a bit about some of the videos here, funny promo (Galore):

had not seen that, thanks for the link! Very amusing!  I guess the most important factor for RS is the time it takes to record!

When 120 Minutes & Post Modern MTV were around, I taped a lot of stuff & they are on VHS.  I definitely NEED to get all these onto a DVD disc.  I even have the Rockumentary they did on the Cure during the Wish era where Perry said "being in the Cure is like being a school gang", Boris saying he never thought the Cure would take off the way it did, Simon saying that before some shows, he would get so nervous that he would have to jump around & Porl saying that "since Teddy's been in the band, the atmosphere has been lighter."  Yes, there is a special of 120 Minutes that Robert hosted & that is where he said that about Inbetween Days.  I also have an interview he did on 120 Minutes & where he talked about Simon getting very ill @ the end of the Wish tour & when he develop pleurisy (when water gets into the lungs...) & Rico Suave from Shelleyan Orphan (I believe?) stepped into to finish the tour w/ the them.  :)

roberto soave (unless it's another one of those nick names...).
he played with shelleyan orphan and presence.

btw the videos with roberto soave on stage always looks weird to me because one is so accustomed in seeing simon there, with all his funny jumps and moves. i've no complaints about soave's playing and i think it was a good decision from the band at that time, not to cancel the tour but keep going. and although looks/appearances shouldn't matter it's always just so interesting to pay attention  what a striking effect the absence of simon has on the cure's "collective stage persona", so to speak. on the visual representation of the band.

true, it's mentioned in the wish tour book. but just looking at the other nicknames in that very same book: did anyone ever really saw simon addressed as "subbie"? or "bub"? or someone talk about perry as "teddy"?
the tour books are full of all kinds of things.

Brilliant!!  Thanks very much for the link Poe!!  :smth023  A great way to end an otherwise rather ordinary day....
The further we go, and older we grow, the more we know the less we show

max

"Catch" for the landscape
"Just like heaven" and "a night like this" for the atmospheres and the songs
"high" for the "yellow effect"

Yeah, I will admit, I liked the Cure lineup back in the Wish days.  I did always look for Perry when seeing them live but also Simon & Robert.  So if I didn't see Simon there, I would say it's not the Cure.

Sorry, couldn't remember Roberto Suave's correct name.

No, I can't see Simon as "subbie" or "bub"... I still get confused when I hear someone say Teddy!

I'd love to see that, don't know where to look for stuff like that. Google would be a start of course...
