Whiskers

I feel so young XD
I just started listening to them last year because of their appearance on Korn's "MTV Unplugged" album. I listened to the "Make Me Bad/In Between Days" mash-up and I thought, 'Whoever this Robert Smith guy is, he has a good voice; I shall look for more of this Cure-band's material.'
Less than a year later I already own almost all of their albums, a handful of singles, and three of their live shows.

So, that whole Korn vs. Cure thing was not a completely bad idea, after all. Nice to see it actually produced some good results.  :!:

Part I:

I came in touch with The Cure for the first time back in the end of 1988 in the age of 12. At that time I was listening to A-ha, Kate Bush and other more or less "special" pop musicians. At the schoolyard it was a mode to bartering posters and clippings (very typical in the Ex-GDR) from hot Rock and Pop stars. One day a friend of mine asked me if I probably would have something of The Cure for him. My answer was: The who? Then he showed me a picture of Robert Smith. I liked his style and replied that I want to listen to that band before I grab something out of my tattered BRAVO magazines. He gave me a polish tape ... Pornography. Back from school I listened to the tape and was promptly infected. And no, I had no The Cure posters for my friend anymore. "Disintegration" came out and my adoaration for The Cure aggravated boundless until 1992.

Part II:

"Wish" was released and disappointed me. In October 1992 I went to the Berlin concert which was boring in some way. My enthusiam faded more and more. When one is young such "mere nothing" are enough for losing interest. After many years I rediscovered The Cure again and went to the second of the awesome "Trilogy" concerts in Berlin.

You were listening to Kate Bush at 12? Very good taste. :smth023

I'm pretty sure my first time listening to The Cure was through the Crow soundtrack when I was about 12 or so. And of course, Burn is usually very highly regarded, and it does have what some consider the "classic" Cure sound, so it helped create the image of them I had in mind for a while. I bought Galore some time after and remember loving Catch and Close to Me especially. I never did have the sense to buy any proper albums until I heard Killing an Arab a few summers ago and thought this band must be quite special. So I started getting the albums, starting with Disintegration, and I've been in love with The Cure ever since.  :)

Strange Attraction

I heard Inbetweendays,Lovesong and Just Like Heaven on Retro Active I love them so I went to youtube to look for the videos. When I saw them I needed to look for more. They are my fav band now and always will be.

I must have first heard The Cure around the time of The Head on the Door album. I remember hearing Close To Me and Push, and of course the great video for the former, but for some reason I just never got into them. I would have only been about 7 or 8 when I first heard them, so I didn't get into music seriously until I was maybe 12, and by then I wasn't listening to The Cure. It wasn't until my now ex-girlfriend came along, who is a HUGE Cure fan, and she got me listening to them. So I guess I was in my mid-20s when I got into them properly, but it isn't like I wasn't aware of their existence.

i have a very similar memory of 'push': i must have heard it many times on the radio when it was released, because later, when i discovered 'the head on the door' i instantly recognized that song and was very happy to have been able to "find" it (i had had no idea what song it was by the time i had originally heard it). somehow it had left a mark on my memory, even though i wasn't even really into listening to rock/pop music back in '85.

Just curious: what did you listen to back then?

I think "Push", like "Close to Me" and even "Lullaby", just has a certain sound and feel that is pretty unique. These songs stayed in my head for years and years, but I never really knew who they were. And then when I heard the proper tracks off the albums years later, I was like, "Oh THAT'S who did that song?! I remember hearing that in 1980-something!"

That's why I love The Cure  :D

Strange Attraction

I had heard The Cure before but wasn't really into them but last year around December and January I heard songs like Lovecats, Close to Me, Just Like Heaven and Inbetween Days on a TV radio thing called Retro Active. When they played the songs there was a picture of Robert Smith and some facts about the band. I fell in love with the music and Robert Smith ! LOL I went out and bought The Cure at the time that was the most resent release. Since I had looked them up on youtube I knew a few new songs like Taking Off and The End Of The World. Then I would take CD's out of the Library and looked all kind of stuff on the internet. I also wanted to buy some things so I looked on ebay and saw that there was going to be a new single coming out! I looked everywhere to find out more. Then I found out they were on tour and that they were doing a concert near where I live so I begged my mom and dad to take me and here is the story for that....

And that's how I found The Cure ! I hope I can get to see them live again !  :smth041

in 2008 i was staying in the US for five months with a host family and a friend from germany would send each other emails with links to songs that we thought the other would like. so one day she sent me a link to the 'just like heaven' video... i immediately fell in love with the cure. my first whole album was bloodflowers and it really helped me with some problems i had over there ( new school, my mum had a tumor which thankfully wasn't cancer and so on... ) so you could say that i bonded with the cure :)
i haven't even listened to all the songs as i am taking it slow and enjoying the way^^
i can't wait to see them live and the next time they come close to me I'll be there!!!

edit: of course i meant 2008, guess I'm used to writing 09 now :)

Sometimes early 80´s in a small place a couple miles from Gothenburgh. A friend of mine put on Primary and I imidiately asked him to "turn that crap off" or I was out of his place in an instance. A few weeks later after I returned home he sent me a mixtape containing one side of XTC and one side of Cure. A few listenings and I was stuck.

Don´t you think I owe him?
again and again and again and again and again and...
