You'll winrar http://www.win-rar.com/ to open the initial archive file (the RAR) & then adobe reader to view the book.http://www.adobe.com/
Both are free & contain no dodgy spyware & take just few minutes to install.

Nice little book this

actually, it's not a book. i have the original copy for this and it's just a completely regular kind of magazine issue.
(@steve: i hope you forgive me for editing the subject of this topic from "book" to "magazine"?)

it's part of the series of UNCUT magazine special issues called "NME originals".
the complete "NME original" series here:

http://www.answers.com/topic/nme-originals

a very good series by the way! especially many of the original issues are difficult (and/or expensive!) to hunt down on ebay etc. - so it's a very good idea, to put these compilations together.

this issue was released in october 2004. i bought my copy back then.

so, this is a compilation issue by UNCUT magazine that consists of various press material/articles/reviews that were all published in the UK music magazines New Musical Express (NME) and Melody Maker (MM). thus the name "Uncut presents NME originals").

(oh, those good old days when NME still meant good reading and not waste of your money - it utterly sucks these days, just  full of emo crap and stuff like that - and oh, why the hell does that idiotic hoser pete doherty have to be somehow headlining in EVERY single issue these days?
and too bad Melody Maker got into trouble and was run down in late 90s - actually it was bought by it's long-term rival, NME. because that's also when NME became utterly boring... i feel like the rivalry was healthy and when it was gone -oh well.)

sorry to derail a bit...
anyway, all articles in this mag have been published before, but yet these are not reprints of the originals, it's all been re-edited. the layouts of the articles are completely changed here; lots of pics added/changed, everything looks different. besides this is mostly in color and it's all printed on glossy magazine paper whereas the originals were printed in newspaper quality, mostly black and white.
anyway, i like the fact that all original sources are credited here in full detail.
it's a well organized, good-looking compilation. :smth023

i've used this as a reading copy so a good part of my old clippings/my old mags won't have to suffer from even more excess use. ;)

No worries Marika. I should have named it right in the first place.
Glad it is useful though.

there are a few really entertaining interviews, like "a suitable case for treatment" (MM august 1985) and "kissing to be clever" (MM december 1987).

tyhis is completely meaningless (but since nothing really makes you feel better than spotting other people's mistakes ;):

the cure: friday i'm in love (single review, NME may 1992)

...usual cure tune, always liked it. it is remarkable only in that robert makes no reference to either cats nor japanese babies, but the cure fans will be reassured by the fact that robert goes "dooby dooby doo" at least four times and sings at one point about spinning around "like sheep".

cagey tigers, shaking dogs - ok all that. but come on, spinning sheep?
(and if you've ever seen any of those lists, where some people list all the animals that robert ever mentions in the lyrics (don't ask me why some people do that!): i'm sure i've seen some lists include sheep - and probably just because of mr. steven wells (the reviewer) here had porridge up his ears.)

non-cure funny bits:
isn't there also a reprint there of that report when the fields of the nephilim got busted and were held by the cops because of all the bags of flower they had, because the cops thought it was cocaine?

Alls I have to say is...

THERE'S AN ACTUAL MAGAZINE CALLED "GOTH MAGAZINE" ??

Damn, I'm subscribing right away!  :D  lol

I bought this a few years ago and it helped me avoid crap goth bands. It did however introduce me to Siouxsie and The Banshees. It has so many interviews and record reviews. I learnt a lot about the Cure through this mag.

It covers goth from 1978-1992.
