Title: Cure movie??
Post by: robertsmith on September 14, 2017, 16:36:40
After seeing England is Mine , the Morrissey/Marr movie, which was produced by Roger, I asked Lol about him and Roger getting together and doing something similar about Robert and Lols meeting and the formation of The Cure?.
Two Imaginary Boys the Movie??!!
He replied saying there was already something in the pipeline!!!!! Not with Roger though!😀😀.

Yes, I think Lol has been working on getting Cured made into a film. He's talked about it at the book signings and events. It's going to be incredible.

that would be awesome, but is this supposed to be official , with Robert too, or a side project like Cured?

It would be awesome to have something like this, along with that DVD/BR Robert teased so many years ago, and obviously their new (and last?) album.
Crosses fingers

As mentioned above, Lol hinted that his book "Cured" might be turned into a movie. At this point in time no "official" involvement of Robert or The Cure is known.

For me, it all will stand or fall with the actors. If they will look similar to Lol and Robert, it could be good.

(However, I can't see this being "in sync" with any other Cure projects, it will "just" be a movie about the Tolhurst/Smith companionship, like the book. Receiving clearance for the music shouldn't be a problem though, seeing Lol and Robert are getting on well these days.)

Ooh, this frightens me a bit... I know the 'real cure story' too well (by reading all the books and everything), i only can be disappointed by watching actors trying play their role. No thanks.

Don't hold your breath (you might turn blue)!
In my view, movies can take very long until they're finished, from the writing of the script up to the final editing...

Sean Penn already portrayed a rock star with a Robert Smith look. Could be? http://curefans.com/index.php?topic=6837.0

I with you there on the actor front. Has anyone ever seen the Ian Dury film, Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll? They did a stellar job with that and it was so wonderfully mad and creative at points, it really worked out well. Had Ian down to a tee.

I'm still dubious over anything being turned into a film. It's kind of like that feeling you get when your favourite book (Filth) is turned into a film. You either watch it with wide eyes in all it's glory or wince and want to cry... Filth was the exception, it was fantastic ......... but Porno or T2, ruined   :confounded:

Biopics about musicians make me feel a bit squeamish. They are incredibly hard to get right and I struggle to think of more than a couple that did a reasonably good job. It would be particularly hard for someone to emulate Robert Smith convincingly without it all ending up a little camp.

I'd read a Cure autobiography from RS but I don't think he'd ever do that. He did once joke with someone about doing a comic of the Cure's history, and in spite of being tongue-in-cheek throwaway comment, that would be highly entertaining actually.

Very true, I liked quite a few of those I saw, but from some others I kept away deliberately...

I'd love to see "Cured" into a movie, and there are some amazing actors and directors to make this work. Think for example on Joaquin Phoenix playing Johny Cash...Wasn't it great?

I have no interest in watching the film (it will never happen) or reading the book. Robert & Lol may be on speaking terms now, but during his last few years in the band Lol had minimal musical input. He was disruptive, caused friction amongst fellow band members, left acrimoniously, and tried to sue Robert for royalties etc. Probably the least talented musician who has played in The Cure and now he's exploiting the band's name.
