Well, I see The Cure or whoever manages the official Cure pages on Twitter and Facebook have removed their postings about the Hall of Fame

Ah okay, that's why I found nothing!!
I myself would guess that the band is not too interested right now in HoF (for reasons I'd mentioned before).

Thus, keep voting if you feel like it, however there's no need to feel "bad" if you don't.  :cool

The Cure needs actually 10 000 votes per day to make progress. As mentioned before, millions
have bought the albums, live shows are sold out within a couple of days and what I see so far is,
carefully spoken, lame. It's not helpful for the team spirit to figuring out if current Cure members are
interested or not. The nomination alone wasn't pure chance, was it? So I do believe that Robert has
an eye on the whole outcome, and, of course, he is an artist! I don't believe that he doesn't care at all.
The fact that specific remarks or notes have been removed from Twitter and Fb shows their loyalty to
"team Cure" at least for a while. What I can fully agree with is that Robert indeed doesn't care if they
receive more mainstream votes or not. No question. OK - I must stop here and calm down a bit.

What fact does point to that? As far as is known, Robert does not do much at all on the internet.

The post I set off on Curefans FB had (due to official numbers from FB) reached 271 persons this morning. Go figure how many votes this will bring.
Did you (or anyone) write to Craig from CoF asking if he'd do a re-post?

...I just looked at The Cure Twitter posts and it is still there, posted 13/10.  I'm assuming it's not just me that can see it right?

It is indeed:

Possibly I couldn't find it on FB as it's buried underneath a mass of posts about the upcoming festival gigs. Somebody there should re-post it.

Thank you for finding the posting on Twitter and sharing the link, Ulrich!  :heart-eyes

In terms of Robert Smith not being internet active, I call BS. I know he's said it publicly several times that he's not active on the internet, most recently from Wembley in December 2016: "And first I'd like to thank you, actually, for coming, and since this always goes on the f*cking internet, everyone else that came to all the other shows, sorry if I sound sarcastic, but I'm just not used to the internet."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pEKRPzJfNQ

And which should we believe more, when Robert says he's not used to the internet or: "no one should ever fall in love with a performer. You can fall in love with a band,  fall in love with the music, but never fall for the trick of the performer. It's junk!"

Watch the whole interview here:

Actually one of the funniest moments was when The Cure was playing at Wembley and Robert said this: "It's weird that we haven't played this song in the last three days...but according to Wikipedia we haven't. f*ck off!" Since when does Wikipedia report on what songs a band plays on tour? Ha ha ha! Many of us laughed at the (simulated?) naivete. He is very charming, and somehow knowing that he knows that makes him even more charming. :-)

...I agree, I think he's likely to have his eyes open in general, and to not view the internet would perhaps be like a closed-eyes approach in this day and age.  I wonder if perhaps (like many) there is a preference for things such as the rich experience of vinyl instead of downloading music etc, but I doubt he completely closes his eyes to it.

...anyone studying Sociology? There could likely be a good thesis topic in this area :)
This is what I love about Bowie, that as soon as the audience would start feeling attached to (and loving) him (or perhaps more accurately who they perceived he was)...he would change shape!  ...what is left? To fall in love with that which is undefinable?

I agree it would be a good thesis topic, as it's pretty common to fall in love with a band member, artist, celebrity, etc.

I don't think performers are as contrived as one might think, yet they're not always spontaneous and just in the right place at the right time all the time either. I don't know much about Bowie other than his songs, (Sound and Vision, Starman my favorites), but I've spent a lot of time learning info on Robert Smith, and it seems to me that he works far harder than he likes to give off. He once said he only does what he wants, but I think he was in some state of mind when saying that, was just really in the moment because it's just not possible that he only ever does what he wants and maintains his status as "Robert Smith of The Cure" with the world. I do think he's very authentic and has a social conscience, but he also likes to give people that impression (who doesn't)? Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if he has considerable on-line presence like many of us. He talked about listening to more music when leading up to Meltdown than he ever had before and a lot of those musicians and bands aren't on vinyl, so he had to listen to them the same ways we all listen to new music. Anyway, I could go on...

Well, possibly people tell him the general direction things take in fan forums or such... but personally I think it is a wise move to stay away from those. "Googling" yourself can be a bad idea if you're playing in a known band.

Don't forget that apparently he sent out letters (not e-mails!) to the bands he invited to Meltdown!  :1f62e:

I do agree, he has to work on certain things. It has been reported that he works hard on the stage set & lighting concept for the Cure shows. Of course, once he decides that he wants to do a tour, he will have to work on those things (if he wants to do 'em himself, which he does).

He's always come across as "authentic" to most of us fans. Of course he's been misunderstood by the media - e.g. that they portrayed him as some kind of "king of goth", just because he sang some dark or sad songs...

I admire Robert Smith for being as involved with the process of their music and behind the scenes as he is instead of giving all the power to a manager or producer. He is the man behind The Cure, not PR specialists.

With that being said, I'm going to vote! https://www.rockhall.com/fanvote/
