Altought I don't have any recording of her, she's gorgeous. But I must admit that my preferences goes more for the "Erotic" era, in the early 90's.
Ops, I forgot to put the most important one on top of Bjork and Madonna.
My dear Rachel Goswell from Slowdive!

hehe by the way i think this thread sort of demonstrates pretty well how it's very much ok for guys to like a female artist almost entirely because she just looks good and yet it doesn't make them look like they have bad taste in music - whereas if girls do the same they are just silly teenagers... i mean, if we started a thread "your favorite male artist" then surely every girl should try to avoid saying "i also like him because he looks good", because guys would immediately see it all too silly and complain... i mean, if a female member here would start posting "iloveyouuuu" smileys for robert or anyone else, she'd pretty soon get hinted that she's maybe better switch over to the official site - yet boys can post "iloveyouuuu" smileys without any such fear.
well i guess it just doesn't work both ways in this world... *sigh*
but just a general observation/comtemplation, not a comment to anyone in particular.

Marika, you play the cello, yes? Maybe you have some audio I could give a listen to that would change my mind and direct the smileys w/ hearts toward you :P
Seriously though, I get what you're saying. There's always been a double standard when it comes to male vs. female issues and such. I won't deny it and it's certainly unfair. Tell you what, if you want to add some hearts next time Matthew Bellamy's name is mentioned be my guest. I won't poke fun at you or point you in the direction of other forums where stupid pictures and the like aren't frowned upon (cough...mfc...cough).

oooo so you hit the nail on the head hahaha  oh poor mr. bellamy: he's such a funny-looking little midget, now isn't he? he kind of makes me laugh most of the time i see a pic of him but i just have to forgive him all his extreme funny-ness when he starts to play - so i guess i'm a kind of sucker anyway. but what comes to hearts and stuff, well ok i'll be nice and grant him a tiny little heart or two next time he's mentioned, for fairness' sake! such a cute little (funny!!) thing mmmmm hahahaha )

Okay, I know that forum (microcuts). Not very well mind you. Just happened upon it after the Seattle show. I was looking for pics and setlists to past shows, but haven't really given the place more than a glance. From the sound of things I don't think I will be.
it wasn't always completely bad. it actually used to be pretty decent and there're still a few decent people around there (or used to be the last time i looked) who keep(/kept) bashing all those newcomer/retard-folks pretty nicely, trying to keep some sense in it - but i'm afraid they might have got tired too... that was a shame what happened to that place, the teenage-retards found it and just took over. it's a shame whenever that happens, there's not much one can do about it to stop it. :/
some kick-ass show you had there in seattle, by the way. (http://www.freewebdesign.be/smileys/images/music/music-smiley-010.gif) :smth023
May i just hop on in here?
If you are referring to me, I was more so trying to be funny than seriously judging on looks...
I'm not the shallow type at all, I'm very deep and kind-hearted...not someone who would take advantage of someone's beauty.
I respect female artists like I respect Robert Smith as a talented musician, artist, whatever you want to call him. So I don't think that long back and forth quarrel on my part was neccesary.
There's no sexism here! And as for "teenage retards", I happen to be one of the more devoted users. You cannot place me in the vat of shame because I made a comment about someone's looks, or because I am a youth and a new member. Not all teenagers are the same. I happen to think I have a good head on my shoulders...
That, right there, is stupid as well. I'm not like the other teenagers who try to spam the place up, as I am actually a really avid fan and a dedicated member of the site. I'm a bit new, but please understand that my intentions were not serious. I am a big sillyheart, a big joker.
I do not appreciate to be talked bad about, especially when I have already established that I was simply making a joke, and it honestly hurts me deeply that you'd ever consider me a "teenage retard"
AS if my stupidity wasn't obviously put-on for the sake of being humorous...come on, after 200 posts you should have gotten a pretty good sense of where my intentions are. I am not a shallow person. And I do not want grudges held against me that will last my entire stay on the site.
So please forgive me for whatever you think I did wrong.
please carnage visor! didn't i originally say "but just a general observation/comtemplation, not a comment to anyone in particular." AND i did mean it too. so i didn't mean to point my comment to anyone in particular, my post was simply just a general remark - like a few people who replied to it also realized and agreed on, if you go up and read the topic since. and even IF my comment should have been directed to anyone in particular, then don't you think that would have been crowbi_wan and not you? because it was crowbi the one posting "iloveyouuuu" smileys right before my post right? yet even he did see that my post not a negative post against him or anyone, just a general comment - and so he also made a joke out of it as you can see. so surely nothing to get hurt about for him, and even less for you!
i wasn't calling anyone HERE a teenager, definitely not a "retard teenager". :!: and i was referring to some completely other boards tha this, if the ones i meant need to be named that would be the official site and mfc. also, wasn't i talking about some boards for complete other band too? crowbi and i were joking about muse boards and the silly girls who write all those lovelovelove posts there. that really had nothing to do with you or even with this board whatsoever.
and i don't mean anything even remotely rude by saying this but please maybe do not take everything in this thread (or in this board) too personally - things that people write are not necessarily comment to you or let alone about you. it's a known fact that sometimes misunderstandings happen in internet, for various reasons. yet i cannot see anything here in this post that was somehow meant to hrm or hurt you. so come on, relax.
about sexism: well i'd just like to repeat that i did say "just a general observation/comtemplation, not a comment to anyone in particular" ok? - so i was talking about things in general only. because considering topics like hits in general, sexism does happen a lot, i guess no one can deny it. that was all i was trying to say there.
about people wishing you some ill will here or something: i really do think it's pretty much on the contrary. i think a lot of people wrote you supportive comments on this thread, myself included. not sure if you read all those already? but please scroll down towards the end of the thread and have a look:
http://www.curefans.com/index.php/topic,3652.msg28457.html#msg28457
i think i wrote you another one here:
http://www.curefans.com/index.php/topic,657.msg28747.html#msg28747
and i actually also meant what i said there.
so why would i be here now trying to laugh at you or hurt you? it would make no sense.
so calm down dude ok and don't feel bad about things that were not meant to be felt that way?
why not please trust us for being here with good intentions only?
:smth001
Funny....just reading through all of these and something came to mind. When I lived in Ireland, I literally lived right next door to Adam Clayton from U2. His property and my property were seperated by a fence- that is how close I lived to him. Anyway, Bono and the Edge live in a coastal town south of Dublin, called Killiney. It is the French Riviera of Ireland. It is a beautiful town and the rich folk that live there (Bono, Edge, Van Morrison, Enya) have their homes up in the cliffs overlooking Killiney Bay. Bono lives on the hill, and Enya lives above him, overlooking his property. The satellite pic below doesn't really give you an idea of the hill, but the view from the beach sort of does. The white house is Bono's. See the castle above it? That is Enya's.

That's fasinating. I didn't know Enya owned a castle. If I ever visit Ireland, I will have to try to take a look there. I adore her.
Another note, I love classical music. And I forgot to mention , one of my favorite classical female musicians, Ofra Harnoy. She plays the cello and doesit beautifully. And guys ,she is pretty.

You could have had it in June of last year when we got rid of it and moved back to the US!
jeff i think you made a grand error for not taking your camcorder and just setting it up to film mr. clayton's house/property 24/7.
i mean you might hav ebeen able to capture some celebrity footage that some "quality" papers might have been interested in.

OH MY GOD! Sorry, I would have posted earlier but I just got back from school.
Thanks guys for clearing everything up! On my way home, I was thinking about all the discussions I was partaking in on the site and I remembered how embarassing it was when I perceived the comments to be directed towards me, I was even imagining what kinds of responses I could possibly get from you guys regaurding my apology...I invisioned lots of negative feedback like, "We don't want you here." or "It's too late. You said it and it's over."
But I was genuinely intrigued when I noticed all the supportive comments I got reguarding my little misunderstanding, and I'd like to say I once again apologize for the miscommunication, and I hadn't read the posts carefully, otherwise I would have noticed the sexist comments weren't directed towards me.
Anyway, thanks everybody. And now you may continue the Original topic... :smth023

Actually...I do have some pics of his house somewhere. Believe it or not, even though I have been back in the US for 15 months, I am still not completely unpacked. Our basement is still full of unopened boxes.
Anyway, the last 3 months we were in Ireland, U2 was not on tour. And literally at 10am and 8pm, a helicoptor would scare the living crap out of me. My home office was in the back of the house and had a big bay window right next to the desk. All of a sudden, at 10am and 8pm there would be a loud noise coming over the house and you'd see the coptor about 20 feet above my roof. It would land on Adam's property. Not sure if it was picking him up at 10am and dropping him off at 8pm or the opposite. I have pictures of the helicopter somewhere.
I also forgot to mention that the house he lives in (Danesmoate House) is the house U2 rented to record Joshua Tree.
Anyway I forgot to remind of other female artists that I like:
Patti Smith
Alanis Morrissette (but when she was "rock"...now I don't like her so much... :?)
Kate Bush
Delta Goodrem (a young australian pianist, amazing voice and good musician, I love the sound of the piano!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKScTGpQ33s
Pat Benatar! :-D
Classic Alanis...like Jagged Little Pill

Btw i also love Beth Gibbons of Portishead..
Hmm, Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries, Natalie Merchant of 10,000 Maniacs, Deborah Harry of Blondie. I'm not much of a female artist fan though, they bug me sometimes.
Ah! and, Sinéad O'Connor of course.
Thanks for reminding me of Debbie! I forgot Deborah Harry!
God was she pretty! (Sorry, I'm a guy...what do you expect?)
Lol yes, she is magnificent, I love her music, it's just so rad.
I almost want to start a new thread regaurding 80s musicians then and now, where we could find really unflattering pictures of them now, and really good pictures of them back then to see how much they've let themselves go...
I got reminded of this while cruising for some Debbie pictures and coming across a horrible picture where she looks very old and heavyset...
I don't know, it might be a fun thread to start. :smth020

Thanks for reminding me of Debbie! I forgot Deborah Harry!
God was she pretty! (Sorry, I'm a guy...what do you expect?)
Blondie rocked. Had one of the best drummers ever.
I would have to say first and foremost Siouxsie. That is just a given. Second I would have to say Shirley Manson...and third, hmmm...nope those are the only two that come to mind.
Diamonda Galas - Love her voice, always turns up in Vampire movies, like ('B.Stockers Vampire), and 'Natural Born killers', i think, but lots of movies, god heaps and within alot of music also, that i cant think of right now. Just love her, think shes great !! Got to meet her in Melb, 2002ish and gave her a present, But wow that voice i heard before i could see her, It stirs something primal, deeply fem and strong within my soul.
Off the top of my head I'd have to say:
Bjork
Everything But The Girl
Garbage
Sarah McLachlan
Sneaker Pimps
Billie Holiday
Nina Simone
I'm sure there a lots more, just can't think of 'em right now!! And I know ~ strange taste in music. :D

Yeh i like Concrete Blonde -that girls voice. :rocker
Love some of Annie Lennox's slow beautiful songs- wow she has a great voice. I always go blank with female artists.
Most definitely! Annie has a remarkable voice. :smth023 There are so many, but it's fun to try and think of them.

Beautiful voice.
Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins

SHE HAS SOME PROBLEMS THERE DAYS!
DID YOU SEE HER AT MTV'S EUROPEAN MUSIC AWARDS?
IT WAS A SHIPWRECK!
:-D
gotta say.. I find this an example of NOT WHAT TO DO OR BECOME when you have the world at your feet.
Obviously, to her father and people surrounding her, that the fact remains.. every person is in control of their own destiny. There are many paths. Not all of them are the right path, or the necessary path, or the easy path.. Life is an experience.
In the catergory of this most recent battle are : Brittany Spears, Lindsay Lohan, bah humbug.. don't read the rags that much. But There are many who have survived, in showbiz.. Drew Barrimore, Jodie Foster, etc..
I suppose I particularly want to give Brittany(I'm sorry if I can't spell her name?) a bit of a chatting to, since she has children.. but Hollywood is a terrible canker as well as the paparazzi.. but if ya wanna be famous.. ???
Not only do they need psychologists for themselves, but their kids??
Who would want that?
Crazy fans..( umm.. I'm not acrazyfan) paparazzi.. they can't live life without every move caught on camera...--------- think Princess Diana. :smth059

Yes!!!!
I was so disappointed because I was waiting for that show just to see her...and the performance was horrible! :smth011
She was completely drunk!!!
Anyway her voice is amazing, BACK TO BLACK is a wonderful song for me...
OMG! It took me 5 pages to find someone that said Tori Amos! I love her and I'm not sure how out of the loop I am, but I also love Aimee Mann (formerly Til Tuesday front woman). For the most recent I also love Amy Lee of Evanescence.

Ok, I've never heard of Amy Whinehouse ~ so I just took a peek at a few songs on Youtube (quick and dirty). I have to say I like her voice. Kind of reminds me of one of my fav's Billy Holliday. And from what I've just glimpsed in Wikipedia... she's banned in the U.S. for marijuana possession?? Blasphemy! Anyway, that stinks that she had a terrible performance for the MTV awards!! Couldn't tell from what I saw on YouTube. :smth017
Agree about Kate Bush, The Kick Inside is one of my all-time favorite albums.
But nobody has a voice like Siouxsie!!

Agree about Amy Lee, even if in the live performances her voice is not good as in the records...but I love "My immortal", it's such a touching song!
some good names proposed here since... but i think this bearded lady still does get the gold:

i love the stuff she did for that BBC TV christmas special 1979 (even though it features peter gabriel ;-P). :D

Eh, Tori Amos is just a cheap ripoff of Kate Bush IMO, her album covers even copy Kate's...
Nobody will ever beat the original! :P

That is one of my favorite Evanescence songs. I simply love Amy's voice.
amy lee? uuuh for me she's unfortunately :smth078
besides i can't stand any of these metal bands with female singers, nightwish, evanescense, within temptation - dreadful type of music, uh.
Tat's why we're all unique, opinions are individual! I know many people who don't like female fronts to metal/rock bands, and they are usually guys.
PS I loved the smiley vomiting, how cool!

I think that a matal band with a female singer is very original ;)...anyway I'm not a fan of evanescence, I like just 2-3 songs and especially for the emy's voice...but I don't like her style, because she wants to be a sort of "female version" of RS even if she has no chance to be like him...imho she represents better the world of the "rebel- angry teenagers" as avril lavigne, etc.

I can't stand them also. Amy Lee has a terrible voice. I've watched the Korn Unplugged show where she sang with Johnathan Davis "Freak on a Leach" and she screamed more than she sang the song.
Shirley Manson, Björk and Elisabeth Fraser are great singers :)
I like them a lot :)
Hi guys,
Have u ever listen to Katie Melua the british singer? She did cover Just like
Heaven and The Lovecats i supposed.
Whats your opinion about her?
p/s: Her voice remind me of the gorgeous Dolly Parton in her song called "if you
were a sailboat"

She's a good musician with an amazing voice, even if I don't like her music very much.. :smth001
I appreciate just one song, "the other side of the world" (or something like this, I'm not sure about the title!) :-D
Ciao Sussex!! :smth006
I LIKE LADY SOVEREIGN
Now I have to add Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins!!!
She's got an amazing and unique voice!
I like very much ALICIA KEYS, too! :smth001
Kristy Thirsk who has sang for Delirium. Hauntingly sublime vocals... :P
PJ Harvey and Annie Lennox :)
Kimya Dawson. Her voice is whisper-like and I love her lyrics. :smth020
I'd like to add Joan Jett to the list!
chibi, the singer of "the birthday massacre"... and johnette napolitano (concrete blonde) :D
Lydia Lunch
and
Strawberry Switchblade
PATTI SMITH IN THE SEVENTIES, THESE DAYS...
Dee Plume & Sue Denim (robots in disguise)
Elizabeth Fraser
PJ Harvey
Bjork
Cat Power
Siouxsie
Hope Sandoval
Maria Taylor
Nicole Atkins (she's new, but she has a great voice)
Well, as far as pop/rock ladies go, my favourite are, in no particular order:
Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins)
Siouxsie
Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses)
PJ Harvey
Bjork (also in the Sugarcubes days)
Kate Bush
Suzanne Vega
Beth Gibbons (Portishead)
Louise Rhodes (Lamb)
Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star)
Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance)
the old one - Edith Piaf
the new one - Katie Melua (adore the girl! beautiful and special music for me, especially the voice!! )

Have you ever given a listen to bands like Atrox or Madder Mortem? Those are (or used to be, in the case of Atrox) quality female-fronted metal bands. Their brand of metal is influenced by space-rock and alternative rock, among other things, and I actually think that some Cure fans might like them if they give the a try. The lyrics and artwork are also very well done, in both cases, which is a plus.
At http://www.atrox.no/public.aspx?pageid=38125 you can hear some samples of Atrox songs. "Terrestrials" and "Orgasm" are the albums I know.
At http://www.maddermortem.com/site_desiderata.php?topCat=2&subCat=0&subPg=0 you can find Madder Mortem song samples. I don't know the 'Mercury' album but the other 3 are well worth checking...

I just thought I might add this You Tube link (for MM only, Atrox stuff with Monika singing is not available there :smth011 )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZB5uulUZAU
One more thing...
Monika Edvardsen, ex-singer of Atrox, seems to have a new musical project. Haven't checked it yet... In her site you can check much of her work, including the great paintings she has done for the Atrox albums artwork:
http://swarmling.net/m/covers01.html
She is a true (and quirky) artist! :smth001
Hmmm I have soooo many favourite female singers/songwriters:
Tori Amos
Regina Spektor
Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth)
Julia Indelicate (The Indelicates)
Laetia Sadier (Stereolab)
Amelia Fletcher (Talulah Gosh/Heavenly)
Rose McDowall (Strawberry Switchblade/Sorrow)
Kate Nash
Annika Norlin (Hello Saferide)
Shirley Manson (Garbage)
Siouxsie Sioux
Kathleen Hannah (Bikini Kill/Le Tigre)
*In no order except the first 3
Outside the realm of singers, there a few female artists I admire, too:
Tina Weymouth (bass, Talking Heads)
Kim Gordon (bass, Sonic Youth... well, she's kind of a good "singer" too, sometimes)
Leslie Langston (bass, Throwing Muses and later also with The Wolfgang Press)
D'arcy (bass, Smashing Pumpkins)
Um, LOL... me! (I'm such a tosser!)
Madonna (the early years),Kim Wilde,Leila K,Missy Elliott,Da Brat,Janet Jackson.
Well, there are loads of female artists I used to listen to (or still do), although I'm not the biggest "fan" of all them today:
Heather Nova, Alison Shaw (Cranes), Pj Harvey, Siouxsie, Melissa AufderMaur, Kristin Hersh, Patti Smith, The Pretenders, Blondie, The Heart Throbs...
