Thank you.

But just as I was saying, this IS the same demo that can be found on the Three Imaginary Boys bonus disc and the Curiosity cassette.

Just as I remembered, this bootleg version is really sped up, and it also sounds like the source has been degraded quite a bit.

Yes, there is more reverb/ambiance, but this could have simply been added by someone else.

Whatever the case may be, it's the same performance — just with some different "processing".

A similar thing could be said about the official "Faded Smiles" demo vs. the one that got leaked on the internet many years before this. They are the same performance, but the official version has some different production values.

actually i was just going to ask whether the speed is really faster or if the pitch is also changed - which means it's was simply (intentionally or accidentally) sped up later which means it's off-speed too.

sorry to hear the version is a fake, fiction. although unfortunately i don't think it's the first time that some "slightly cooked" version has been added to some bootleg, perhaps added by some bootlegger just in order wanting to make his bootleg more attractive.
some fake live bootlegs have been put together in similar manner.

If this is the true it had to be done with a purpose. I don´t find either of the other tracks on the Let´s Go-boot sped up. And I´m pretty sure that the two versions of BDC on the boot are not the same. I could agree that the first version of BDC on Let´s Go is the one to be found on Curiosity. I don´t put any prestige in this matter but I still like to think that this is another version. But I will spend a couple hours nex weekend to see if I can find what You guys obviously have found. I don´t see the similarity that clear. Yet.

one easy thing to do would be just to compare the pitches, i presume(?).
(i could always do the pitch comparison in a minute if you want, if you could send me both versions on the bootleg. either complete songs or just samples from the same passage would do.)
also, the details of the performance (mainly vocal part) often easily give up this kind of stuff.

Yeah, that would be nice. I have to hit the hug right now (early start tomorrow) but as soon as I get home tomorrow I´ll rip and post the two songs as mp3-files to You. Is Your e-mail to be found on the page?

I also have the Cure's two live concert DVDs and Staring At The Sea on VHS (which I watched the hell out of).

I think my most prized possesion (and most costly!!) is the 12" promo of grinding halt/meathook - traded a 7" clear disc of Queen's invisable man (- that I found in a papershop for 25 gb pence!)

What are the chances of meathook making the old school encore!!! (nil).

I'd thoroughly recommend "the cure on record" as a bible for collecting early releases, has excellent detail.

japanesebaby

i was just reminded by some older threads a bit similar/related to this one here:

Does anyone have Cure albums from the 80's?

what's your beloved Cure disc in your collection?

a good book - although never got updated past 1994, sadly.

by the way a thread for that book (and other discography books) here:

That´s a nice price! Last time I saw it was 1993 and then the price was around £50. sadly to say I didn´t buy it.

if i remember right, i think i saw one copy up here, not long ago:

not sure if it was sold(?). perhaps you can ask the seller.

i've seen it up on ebay every now and then, not often but a few times now and then, if you just keep watching the site for a while.
i don't collect official releases anymore so i've never bid on those though.

Thanx. Didn´t find it there though. I´m a bit doubtful buying over the Net anyway and when I said "last saw it", I ment that I really saw it. At a record sale here in Uppsala.

I Don´t know that book but there are from time to time good sections in Record Collector. When it comes to early stuff, the issues # 167, 168 and 169 from 1993 is as good as gold.
