Hi all,
I just noticed @robertsmith is getting more vocal on Twitter, centred on UK politics.... or more accurately retweeting several other tweets.
I could easily find myself going down rabbit-holes with the links posted, but will restrain myself (as my head is currently bursting with other things, plus I'm not in the UK so perhaps not as connected with this subject matter).
I thought I'd let people know though in case you want to check-out what he's speaking out about. ...and it's so rare he speaks on Twitter, I'm glad to see him more active on that platform :)

Are you certain it is Robert Smith himself?

Even if, the link you gave leads to a certain "Richard Murphy".  :1f633:

Ah I just noticed the link is going straight to what Robert retweeted (by Richard Murphy). To better see Roberts twitter account and the things he has retweeted recently:
Open Twitter, search for @robertsmith , it has a blue tick beside his name.

If it wasn't him then why are the following people following this account: The Cure, Reeves, tim Pope, Trent reznor ?

I don't know. I'd never heard of it (or had I?), I only knew The Cure has one (official)!

Obviously no-one informed us about it, now you did, thanks!

I find twitter pretty interesting, and there can be some noteworthy interactions. Reeves sometimes shares some interesting Bowie-related things, Roger and Simon sometimes bounce off each other with comments back and forth. A strange thing happened a couple of months ago where Roger or Simon (I cant recall who) made a disparaging comment about Lol, and the other one replied in agreement (or at least that was my interpretation of it). A fan then jumped in and called it out (quite rightly I think) then Simon or Roger's initial response kind of ridiculed her, and Craig (cof) did similar. Then other fans defended the initial person who called it out. Then eventually Simon, Roger and/or Craig recanted. ...I only saw it all several days after the fact, but f*ck that's the beauty (or hazards) of Twitter.  And geez it really can show peoples true colours. If person A is making disparaging comments about person B, it tells us more about person A than anything else in my opinion.

Well I don't, never knew why I should join. (I mean I waste enough time on FB and elsewhere, enough is enough.) However, when there is anything of significance, it would be great if you (or any fan who's on twitter) could share Robert's post(s) with us.

Yeah, he does so on Facebook too sometimes.

When we were putting together English examinations, we were always looking for photos like that so students could discuss, "How is the audience being positioned here?"  Nice shot...and a classical example of this.

Indeed.  :)  There's a great saying to make that point:  "If you're pointing your finger at someone, count how many fingers are pointing back at you!"

Nice to see the fans expecting decent behaviour and calling it out when it's not.  :smth023  What's the point of all the demonstrations if we don't call out unkind behaviour wherever we see it... Also nice to see the turnaround.  It's not always easy to admit we've done the wrong thing.   :cool

Yes, the rabbit hole of the Internet!     There's good tricks for safeguarding yourself from falling down the hole of this interesting toy - and avoidance of social media is one of them, for a lot of people.  Quite apart from, like a lot of other things online, it's mostly unedifying - although you can also find some good things.  (This almost seems to be a general principle - it applies to so many other things in society as well...)

Twitter is sort of incompatible with my interest in reading (and writing  :angel) long-form.  Having said that, one of the most fun things in Australia is the 50-word short story competition!   :smth023

The Cure (via twitter/FB):

QuoteThe events sector urgently needs government support to survive the COVID-19 crisis.

Without major immediate support from government, the entire live events sector supply chain is at risk of collapse.
Red Alert is a campaign to raise public and media awareness in support of the live events sector which employs over 1,000,000 highly skilled people in the UK, all of whom have had no work for the past four months with little likelihood of restarting until Spring 2021.

The aim is to have financial support extended for the people and companies in this sector until they can return to work.
Please join the collective efforts to get the industry voice heard, calling for sustained immediate financial support by visiting #WeMakeEvents.

Good antidote page to the Resident Rump's bird-brained twitterings before he was finally banned.  A self-educating human with standards!  :cool

Nice quote there!  :)  Thanks for pointing this out, @word_on_a_wing.  There's a fun craft project a little way down too, bwahahaha.
