Title: "curespotting"
Post by: japanesebaby on November 22, 2008, 11:45:18
i was reading the "you know you are a cure fan when..." thread the other day.
one thing about being a cure fan seems to be that you often see the cure in things/places/situations which aren't actually cure related at all: sometimes you spot things like this, you might even say "hey look at that! ;)" to somebody (who is not a cure fan) but or course they just go "so... what??" (and then you can think: "hey that's a name of a cure song too!" :P).

anyway, your own crooked curefan's mind refuses to see it normally, you see it "cure-ishly". ;) and it takes another curefan to get it.

here're some instances:

a store in düsseldorf, germany:

sometimes i go past this place:

I have this book about farming in america, and it has a map of a farm layout, which belongs to someone named Robert Smith. I just found this today.

Also, I live on Smith Ave., and my mother calls it "Robert Smith Ave."

The other day while waiting to get into the Carson Daly show a catering truck pulled into the lot.  The name on the truck...Chef Robert's!   How fitting!  Makes me wonder who they were catering for?  Everyone in line got a kick out of it.  Too bad I didn't bring along my camera.  Someone took a picture, though.  I'll ask around and keep an eye out for it.

there used to be this placed called "The Dream" years ago near where I lived. Took a picture of it then, not sure where the picture is now, and the place isn't there anymore.

Also there's this Asian/Pacific Islander market that uses the same font as the Why Can't I Be You? single font. I can take a picture of that sometime.

reminded me of this:

i don't know where the name originated. i doubt it would be cure related as these studios are famous among metal/progeressive metal bands, opeth & co.
i was surprised to see deep insight and disco ensemble on their list of clients though as they are finnish emo bands, certainly not metal.

i've also heard about a group here in finland (maybe they are elsewhere too, i don't know) who are into caravan spotting. in addition to a license plate, every caravan has a sort of registering number. the smaller the number, the older the caravan is. i heard that if you spot a caravan with a number less than 10 then you're really something and every fellow caravan-spotter will go like 2wowwww!!"

i just happened to see this episode (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1469103/) from a british crime series called 'new tricks'. the name of the guy who's murder was being investigated was robert smith. it was somehow distracting, to hear them keep repeating stuff like "the murder of robert smith..."/"when robert smith was murdered..."/"whoever it was that killed robert smith..."/etc.

i just happened to see this episode (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1469103/) from a british crime series called 'new tricks'. the name of the guy who's murder was being investigated was robert smith. it was somehow distracting, to hear them keep repeating stuff like "the murder of robert smith..."/"when robert smith was murdered..."/"whoever it was that killed robert smith..."/etc.

was it a coincident to use that name??

This book is good, not only because of its title.

yes i think it must have been. after all smith is the most common surname in english and robert isn't that rare first name either.

no, no development plans this time. this place is quite far from everything like that, very few people even live in the area.
it's just people turning forests to money, clearing out the trees and leaving a complete war zone behind, it looks like the area was bombed or something :( - it'll take more than a lifetime for the forest to renew itself.
the finnish word for forestry is "forest care" - some damn care.

in the movie reign of fire (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253556/), the sky-diving "archangels" have a life expectancy of 17 seconds:

-Excuse me. Who are they?
-Archangels.
-Huh?
-17 seconds... once they jump from the chopper, that's their life expectancy.
-You never thought of giving them parachutes?
-They're not much help.

Here's a big one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IXxmXTOH98 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IXxmXTOH98)

The movie "Career Girls" is basically "The Cure: The Movie"

There's like, a tacky amount of Cure in this movie. For no reason. I have no idea why.

In the clip I posted, they have a poster for The 13th single up on some wall and they show it. Strange.
