THERE WAS LOTS OF STUFF SAID THAT THE CURE WILL NEVER MAKE A NEW "DISISNTEGRATION"

SAYING THAT THE CURE ARE WAY PAST THEIR PRIME AND THAT THE FOLLOWING ALBUMS WILL BE MEDIOCRE AT BEST (HOPING THAT THEY WONT DISAPPOINT)...

I TOO BELIVE THAT ITS A BIT INSANE TO EXPECT "NEW DISINTEGRATION" AND I DO HOPE THE NEW ALBUM WONT DISAPPOINT...

BUT ALSO I BELIVE THAT THE WHOLE ROCK AND ROLL CONCEPT IS WAY PAST ITS PRIME AND SINCE EARLY NINETIES (GRUNGE, BRITPOP, AND FINALLY - POST PUNK REVIVAL) THERE IS NOTHING NEW IN THE ROCK AND ROLL - EVERYTHING IS DERIVATIVE AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO MATCH SOMETHING FROM THE PAST...

SO IF THE CURE MAKE SOMETHING REALLY BIG (AS THE 1989 ALBUM WAS) IT WILL BE SOMETHING TOTALLY "OUT OF HAT" .... REVOLUTIONARY... INSANELY INOVATIVE...

AND STILL, IT MIGHT SOUND LIKE CRAP TO THE CUREFANS...

SO...

I dont want them to make the 'new Disintegration',
im sure whatever they'll do will be able to stand on its own anyway, it seems a bit dull to expect anything, then you just build up expectations......only to be disapointed when its not what you want. Whatever this new album sounds like, ill just take it as i find it, every Cure record has really good points, even if you dont like all the songs.......

Look at WMS, people seem to hate it, even after all these years, but if you listen past what you're expecting as a 'Cure-fan' its a pretty good record. Same with Mixed Up, thats a great record. (only in my view of course, ah well) ;)

yeah... i'm generally pretty happy with all of their releases and I always manage to find the good in each album.  I do agree that most of today's music is pretty derivative and uninspired so I always hold out hope that The Cure will release a monster album to break that cycle... but we'll see.

bloodflowers was the new disintegration...

yeah everything is derivitive but its been like that forever basically. its just that we are in the present now so it seems more prominent. there are good bands out there too

IT IS VERY HARD FOR ROBERT AND THE BAND WHEN THEY HAVE NEW ALBUM TO MAKE
THE EXPECTATIONS ARE ALWAYS HUGE

THEN AGAIN, LAST ALBUM WAS REALLY THE FIRST ONE THAT TRIED TO FIT INTO THE MAINSTREAM SOUND
REALLY WEIRD THAT CRITICS WERE FAIRLY POSITIVE WHILE THE FANS DIDNT LIKE IT TOO MUCH

ALSO, ROBERT SAID THAT THE LAST ALBUM IS "THE CURE" AS HE WANTS IT TO BE LIKE
AND IT WAS HIS DECISION TO TAKE ALL THOSE SONGS OUT FROM THE CD SO IT TURNED OUT THE B-SIDES WERE BETTER THAN EVERYTHING FROM ACTUAL ALBUM...

SO WITH NEXT ALBUM WE MIGHT EXPECT THE FURTHER ALIENATION OF ROBERT FROM THE CUREFANS...

:?

PS

"WILD MOOD SWINGS" IS A GREAT ALBUM AND I THINK THEY SHOULD GO BACK TO THAT KIND OF MUSIC MAKING! HALF A YEAR OUT IN SOME MANSION, OR SOMEWHERE IN SOUTH OF FRANCE LIKE FOR "KISS ME..." SESSIONS...

I just hope that they use their new "guitar" based sound to the best of it's abilities... speaking of a "new" Disintegration, I have to agree that Bloodflowers was the new Disintegration... but it'd be nice to have a epic-guitar Cure album.

i truly hope not! i mean, i hope they won't more or less intentionally go making some album again.

anyway, when 'mixed up' came out people used to be grumpy and complain how it's outrageous and they should have done something like 'disintegration' again, to keep on that road. and you may call it hindsight if you want to but i always thought that as a career move  'mixed up' was just a great choice, to distance themselves totally from what they had just been doing.
so please no "new disintegrations" - i hope they manage to do something different enough from every previous albums  - regardless of whether or not it turned out to be a succes or just utter crap.
there's just nothing duller than sit down and start listening to a new album you've been waiting for to be released from some band you like and notice that you just as well might be listening to one of their old albums instead.

anyway i guess the question is whether they will make an album as good as disintegration was.

i'd have to disagree. maybe it sounds like i'm splitting hairs but mainly because i think the concepts are not clear:
what do we all actually mean when we say that? the more i think of it, the more obscure this concept of "new disintegration" becomes, i think.
for me bloodflowers was bloodflowers and disintegration was disintegration. two different albums...

I think what was meant by the 'new Disintegration' comments is an album thematically and musically similar. But that does not identical, or even 'quite' similar. It just means similar, in the same sense that some songs on The Head on the Door are similar to some songs on Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me.

WELL ITS PRETTY WELL ESTABLISHED THAT "PORNOGRAPHY", "DISINTEGRATION" AND "BLOODFLOWERS" ARE THE LANDMARKS, MILESTONES OF THE BANDS CAREER!

SO, THERE IS NO POINT IN GOING BACK TO THAT ISSUE...

THE ISSUE IS WILL THEY EVER MAKE THE NEXT STEP?!

WHAT IS NEXT IN ROBERTS MIND?!
WHAT SHOULD BE NEXT?!

THE GUY SAID SOME PRETTY HEAVY STUFF ON "BLOODFLOWERS" AND THEN WENT BACK TO "I CANT FIND MYSELF..." WHICH IS A BIT OF A STEP-BACK...

THEN AGAIN, HE SAID "YOUR GOD IS FEAR, THAT ALL YOU ARE IS ALL THERE IS..." WHICH IS SOME HEAVY STUFF ALSO...

HE DEFINITELLY PROMISED SOME THINGS WITH AND AFTER "BLOODFLOWERS" BUT IF HE'S ABOUT TO GO "POP-HARD ROCK" THERE IS NO WAY HE CAN KEEP UP WITH THE NARRATIVE!

What I meant by "Bloodflowers is the new Disintegration" was that, for me, Bloodflowers stands as the milestone of epic albums post-1989.  It was an album that, for all intents and purposes, brought my definition of the "Cure Sound" back into focus.

And to Strange Day who mentioned Mogwai in response to my desire for an "epic-guitar Cure album" ... I partly agree.  I've loved Mogwai since I heard Young Team all those years ago, and I've managed to see them live a few times... they leave you speechless.  However, Mogwai doesn't have Robert Smith as a vocalist... and that's what I need for a true guitar-epic Cure album.

i also agree that bloodflowers was the new disintegration..
i'm sure they'll make another album like this..
