IMHO there's no need to make a "new disintegration".
They can make a fu**ing amazing album even if it's totally different from that! ;)

WELL, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE SOUND OF THE ALBUM...

IT'S ABOUT THE HUGE IMPACT ON THE BANDS CAREER AND THE MUSIC SCENE IN GENERAL.

Fatter than Bob, balder than Porl, as sober as Simon, as amusing as Jason

I'm afraid The Cure are past the time when they could make a record with such an impact... Even 'Bloodflowers', respectable an effort as it is, didn't really bring anything new to the Cure world (not to mention the music scene in general).

The Cure may still release a really good album, I´m hoping that they eventually will, but most of what has been happening since 'Disintegration' clearly shows that they have been past their prime for a long time... It happens to every band. A kind of 'resurrection' may still be possible (hey, it happened to artists like Lou Reed or Bob Dylan), most probably some really good songs are still waiting for us in the future, but we should be realistic about it.

There's also another issue here. The music world nowadays is way more fragmented than it was 20 years ago, there's too much music ou there, through the internet people have almost instant access to every possible music style, new albums leak way before they are to be released... There's no way a single band, however great, can have the same sort of huge impact nowadays that some 70's or 80's bands had back in their day.

I like the fact that The Cure's albums are all so varied. In my opinion the only albums that are similar are 'Seventeen Seconds' and 'Faith', hence why 'Happily Ever After' worked as a set. I tend to think it would have been nice if the Cure had made an album in 1990, a year after Disintegration, but they probably would have collapsed or simply broken up. Disintegration will never be repeated in any way whatsoever. It would be good to see The Cure try and do the whole Faith-subtle-ness thing again. I don't think that would be impossible to do. Maybe record some vocals in some caves or public toilets, hahaha, (isn't there a rumour that some of Pornography was recorded in a toilet?) and really get that original sound to the music rather than the polished MTV sound. Overall, Disintegration is so rich in sounds and wonderfull swirling layers that will forever be unmatchable by any band in the future of rock music.

I think (going on the news/rumours of upwards of 30 songs) that they will veer away from Disintegration & that the next offering will be more of a KMKMKM affair.
KMKMKM was a showcase really that had it all.
If that happened again, I'd be happy.
KMKMKM meant a lot to me in my life & a "next step" would be some sort of answer I think to a lot of questions it made me ask.
This won't mean much to anyone else I guess, but it means a lot to me.
Cheers

Definately Steve! This would be awesome. Kiss Me is such a good album because it's got it all, the happy and the haunting. 30 songs? Wow, I really hope so and I'm sure they will all be good because so far I've loved all of the new tracks. The B-Sides are incredible so I can't wait for the album tracks.
