Hi, could be construed as a bit of a cheeky first post but hopefully it will spark off a bit of discussion so it's not all bad :)

I'm doing an assignment for my music production module in university and deconstructing the production and mixing of the song Lullaby. I'm hoping to include some background research. I've trawled through google looking for an appropriate interview with either our Bob or David M. Allen and found nothing :(

Can anyone point me in the direction of some appropriate quotes?

It might also be good to hear what it is you guys like (or even don't like ) about the production/arrangement/mix of the song?

p.s. I might cross post a little so please don't be mad!

It's a very addictive song. I don't listen to it much anymore because I've grown a little tired of it. I do think it has a relaxing quality about it, just like a real lullaby before you fall asleep. Apparently, Robert's father used to sing him lullabies when he was little, but usually they were very scary, so I guess Robert relived it and that's why he sings about the spider.

Check out wikipedia perhaps, maybe there might be more info about the song  :smth023

It was actually THE song that got me into The Cure. I heard it on a mixtape and it blew my mind. I had to go and find more about this amazing band. So I guess for me, Lullaby ignited The Cure flame for me... :-D

Hi tigermilk,

Thanks for your thoughts. Had a look on wiki and it's not got any more info than you're offering me. I think what you said really relates to the point of the essay in that it's a very unique sound that's managed to bridge the gap into being one of the band's biggest selling singles. Bit boring I know but the fact that it was this song that got you listening to The Cure I suppose proves its power.

Thanks for your help guys, I've sent an e-mail to Tim Pope, hopefully he can shed a bit of light.

I've been looking for information on David M Allen, I can find his discography but literally nothing else, is this man some kind of recluse???

I think a trip to the bookshop is in order. Any books avaliable with a bit of analysis of the songs you could advise me to look at?

Thanks again,

You could try the Sound on Sound forums

http://www.soundonsound.com/forum

Someone there may have some input or perhaps know where you could track Allen down.

There's always Phil Thornalley, who produced Pornography and was a member for a brief period. He has a website and may have some ideas too

Good luck :)
