Yeah, I've got heaps of bootlegs. But I was only listing my official material. :smth023
I´ve got them all in all different formats (the official releases that is). Of course I have a lot of Bootlegs aswell but mostly recordings with good soundquality. All in all I have 278 different songs with the Cure and then I´m not counting all the different "Forever" and "Why Can´t I be You" more than once. I do count different named soundchecks as for example "Mission Impossible" and "I Hate Rock n Roll" as songs though. My rarest song would be "Boys Don´t Cry" with reverb and a slight echo on the song. It´s named as "Take Two" on the chestnut demo and is also availible as "Take Two" on the bootleg "Let´s Go".
hi there and welcome to curefans :)

isn't that on the TIB deluxe bonus disc (among other chestnut studio demos)?

This was also on the official Concert/Curiosity cassette, and from there it was bootlegged and spread all over the internet during the '90s.
So perhaps not a rarity, but finding a good quality copy was a bit more challenging until recently.
I never owned this cassette, but I remember that the commonly circulating bootleg versions were of poor quality and ran way too fast, which really didn't help matters when you consider how young Robert sounded in the first place!

i never heard any those bootlegged version but i don't think concert/curiosity cassette tape was really that rare item(?). at least i think one saw used tapes sold here and there every once in a while (at least ever since the ebay was up) and one certainly didn't have to pay any crazy prices like for the 'lost wishes' tape or something like it.
so i assume finding a good quality copy wasn't that difficult, just as long as you were ready to transfer the tape yourself.

But this is not the same version as the one on the Concert/Curiosity cassette. This is another version with echo/reverb on the vocals. It goes under the name "BDC Take Two". It´s on the vinyl-bootleg "Let´s Go", which is the Curiosity plus this extra version of BDC.

is it the one with this cover?:

Yes it is. Last track on the B-side (not marked) says Boys Don´t Cry Take Two. That´s the one I mean. And surely that track is not on Concert/Curiosity or the remastered version of 3IB?!

i see. actually i just know how the cover looks like, i really can't check the track listing/how this track sounds like as i don't have that vinyl bootleg myself.
(someone was actually trying to sell it to me with 30 euros some time ago but i refuse pay for bootlegs out of principle. unofficial recordings should be shared without profit, not purchased).

Any chance this is from the December 1978 Peel Session? That version has a distinctive reverb-heavy sound.
Great version, by the way.

No, this version is faster, much faster and the reverb is more distinct. If you want to I can rip it into an mp3-file and post it to any of your email-addreses. If I can find them that is.
But yeah. When I first heard this version I figure it could be from this Peel-session since I find Fire in Cairo has a similar soundimage.

Thank you.
But just as I was saying, this IS the same demo that can be found on the Three Imaginary Boys bonus disc and the Curiosity cassette.
Just as I remembered, this bootleg version is really sped up, and it also sounds like the source has been degraded quite a bit.
Yes, there is more reverb/ambiance, but this could have simply been added by someone else.
Whatever the case may be, it's the same performance — just with some different "processing".
A similar thing could be said about the official "Faded Smiles" demo vs. the one that got leaked on the internet many years before this. They are the same performance, but the official version has some different production values.

actually i was just going to ask whether the speed is really faster or if the pitch is also changed - which means it's was simply (intentionally or accidentally) sped up later which means it's off-speed too.
sorry to hear the version is a fake, fiction. although unfortunately i don't think it's the first time that some "slightly cooked" version has been added to some bootleg, perhaps added by some bootlegger just in order wanting to make his bootleg more attractive.
some fake live bootlegs have been put together in similar manner.

If this is the true it had to be done with a purpose. I don´t find either of the other tracks on the Let´s Go-boot sped up. And I´m pretty sure that the two versions of BDC on the boot are not the same. I could agree that the first version of BDC on Let´s Go is the one to be found on Curiosity. I don´t put any prestige in this matter but I still like to think that this is another version. But I will spend a couple hours nex weekend to see if I can find what You guys obviously have found. I don´t see the similarity that clear. Yet.

one easy thing to do would be just to compare the pitches, i presume(?).
(i could always do the pitch comparison in a minute if you want, if you could send me both versions on the bootleg. either complete songs or just samples from the same passage would do.)
also, the details of the performance (mainly vocal part) often easily give up this kind of stuff.

Yeah, that would be nice. I have to hit the hug right now (early start tomorrow) but as soon as I get home tomorrow I´ll rip and post the two songs as mp3-files to You. Is Your e-mail to be found on the page?

I'm an IPOD generation Cure fan, so I don't have that many physical albums. I do have a few CD albums, "The Head On The Door", "The Top", "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me", and "Greatest Hits".

I think my most prized possesion (and most costly!!) is the 12" promo of grinding halt/meathook - traded a 7" clear disc of Queen's invisable man (- that I found in a papershop for 25 gb pence!)
What are the chances of meathook making the old school encore!!! (nil).
I'd thoroughly recommend "the cure on record" as a bible for collecting early releases, has excellent detail.
i was just reminded by some older threads a bit similar/related to this one here:
Does anyone have Cure albums from the 80's? (http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,4056.0.html)
what's your beloved Cure disc in your collection? (http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,479.0.html)

a good book - although never got updated past 1994, sadly.
by the way a thread for that book (and other discography books) here:

not sure if it was sold(?). perhaps you can ask the seller.
i've seen it up on ebay every now and then, not often but a few times now and then, if you just keep watching the site for a while.
i don't collect official releases anymore so i've never bid on those though.

Thanx. Didn´t find it there though. I´m a bit doubtful buying over the Net anyway and when I said "last saw it", I ment that I really saw it. At a record sale here in Uppsala.

I Don´t know that book but there are from time to time good sections in Record Collector. When it comes to early stuff, the issues # 167, 168 and 169 from 1993 is as good as gold.
