A funeral is not always a sad event...for Robert!!! ;)
Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5h2HaYraEY :-D :-D
That makes me love Robert even more!!! :smth020 (In a totally hetero way, because I'm straight )
I don't know, The Cure is the only band in which I have ever said I "love" one of the members...that happened to be another guy...
I'd play, "HAPPY THE MAN" because it is one of the most beautiful, relaxing songs I have ever heard. (The other being the Labyrinth soundtrack)
Or, if I wanted the funeral attendees to dance, I'd play "Why Can't I be You?" :smth023
Cold---just for that line "ice in my eyes and eyes like ice don't move."

Cold---just for that line "ice in my eyes and eyes like ice don't move."
Robert actually used that line more than once in various demos...As in "The Hanging Garden", he says, "Eyes like ice don't move"
I guess what was to be "The Hanging Garden" got split into two songs, because alot of the lyrics in "Cold" come from demos that Robert did before actually deciding on the final songs.
This thread makes me laugh. 8)
Id have The Funeral Party..... just because of the title.
Aside from that, itd be something stupid like Lets Go To Bed, or Hot Hot Hot!!!
Just imagine that being played at a funeral, id want to come back just to see the faces! :-D
Open
Okay, i know it's not one song but i think i would pick all three :D
Disintegration
The Funeral Party
Faith (extended version!!)
I would pick Empty World..
'Die like a Soldier'..
Faith

The funeral party

bahaha
thanks, that made me smile.. him in the hat
like alot of people, i instinctively choose 'the funeral party'
other then that, im not sure
I would pick Lastdance or prayers for Rain. Another song I would pick is by another band , Citizen erased by Muse.
I changed my mind. "Hot hot hot" or "Do The Hansa" will do the trick and get the tears rolling...
From laughter!
And that video makes me smile!
i'll pick torture and just like heaven...... :P :P :P :P :P :P
"La Ment"
"The Drowning Man"
"The Funeral Party"
"A Chain of Flowers"
"Seventeen Seconds"
"One Hundred Years"
That's all...for now. ;)
Hey You!

"CARNAGE VISORS SOUNDTRACK" would be a nice ambient song for the wake, it has a nice macbre feel to it...the guests won't be too offended because of it's steady tempo... :smth023
if i have to try and pick a cure song, probably 'to wish impossible things' then.
but actually i wouldn't pick any cure song at all - i don't know why i even should be forced to pick a cure song.
i'd probably pick some classical music before all else.
anyway, it's maybe a bit of a forbidden subject but the most fitting one both lyrically and musically would be the beautiful minimalistic dirge 'collapse the light into earth' by porcupine tree:
I won't shiver in the cold
I won't let the shadows take their toll
I won't cover my head in the dark
And I won't forget you when we part
Collapse the Light Into Earth
I won't heal given time
I won't try to change your mind
I won't feel better in the cold light of day
But I wouldn't stop you if you wanted to stay
Collapse the Light Into Earth
Collapse the Light Into Earth
Collapse the Light Into Earth
Collapse the Light Into Earth
Collapse the Light Into Earth
Collapse...

yes, that is a very good advice, a very good idea...
i knew somebody who knew she was going to die soon (because of very severe illness). and whereas we here only speak about all this in theory, she really had this strange "privilege" to plan her own funeral, to choose her own coffin, to make her will etc. - it must have been very strange experience... just try to imagine it....
anyway, there were two "rules" regarding the funeral. the first "rule" was: no sad songs to be sung, absolutely no religious hymns or choral music, no things like that. no religious sermons, no imagery of heaven or hell or anything like that. only a couple of her favorite pieces of classical music played in the church, that's all. and the second "rule": after the burial, lots of children invited to the wake - lots of children so that there would be the sound of laughter everywhere and smiling faces all around, so that we others would not feel too desperate and would not let our grief overcome our hearts.
I think Robert would agree...I don't like sad funerals. Instead of mourning their death, celebrate their life that they lived...look back with happiness on their accomplishments. The deceased probably wouldn't want things to be depressing...who likes to be depressed? Not me.
Play "Why Can't I Be You" and "Lovecats"...something goofy and fun-filled that they could remember you by...it's not like you were known for loving organ hyms and choir music...unless that's your bag, and in that case...
If I were dead, I'd want people to sad, but have a good time...if that's possible.

I would have to agree that I would want everyone to not be sad, but be happy in the memories that they had of me, so I would pick the song "Before Three" to hopefully make them think about those times. However, ever since I was in High School and had a very good friend die in a tragic car accident, I had already decided then, and have always said, that I would like "Good Times" by the Hoodoo Gurus played at my funeral/memorial and "Waiting for the Night to Fall" by Depeche Mode to be played at sundown with the interment of my ashes. I'd also like everyone to have a huge party and partake of as much alcohol and food as they wish while telling wild and embarrassing stories about me afterwards.

telling wild and embarrassing stories about me afterwards.
Ugh! That's one of my fears! What people will think of me when I'm gone!
I want them to yes, party like it's 1999, but also to miss me, not just there for the drinks, right?
I want a bittersweet mourning...lots of happy crying, lots of great Cure tunes blaring on the speakers to remind people of what a melodramatic, moody, depressive, yet fun-loving person I was. Or am.
Boy, all this talk of death is making me depressed...
There's always room for happy tears, alive or dead, and those embarrassing stories are funny even to yourself eventually in life.
I love how you follow being depressed with a smiley!

The smiley totally contradicts what I said, doesn't it? :P Well, Robert always mentioned he didn't want to be taken too seriously about the whole "death" thing... 8)
Lullaby.
The Funeral Party.
If Only Tonight We Could Sleep.
Last Day Of Summer.
One Hundred Years.
The Loudest Sound.

I laugh at the thought of someone attending my funeral just for the food!

6. The Rest Will Flow
[Written by Steven Wilson]
I was pretending to be floating strong
But I was sinking
In to still water
Eyes closed
All of the rest will flow
Then out of darkness I found I could still feel
Something good
Out of the woods
Eyes closed
All of the rest will flow
One simple thing that I never could see
But now I know
All of the rest will flow
Stay with me my angel I found you
Now I don't feel low
All of the rest will flow
Eyes closed
All of the rest will flow

that's another good pick for sure. ;)
i was actually thinking about this topic again the other day, and actually i think my second choice wouldn't be a cure song either. i'd probably pick 'blackout' by muse. it's a lot simpler one, what comes to lyrics alone - but i'd still find it quite fitting, as a little monologue of someone just about to die - and well it's a good piece of music too:
don't kid yourself
and don't fool yourself
this love's too good to last
and i'm too old to dream
don't grow up too fast
and don't embrace the past
this life's too good to last
and i'm too young to care
don't kid yourself
and don't fool yourself
this life could be the last
and we're too young to seei'll never forget this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SALmchM5zM
ok i know some people hate this subject... but i think muse's 'absolution' is actually a pretty excellent theme album. everything on it is about death/nearness of death/fear of dying/maybe some kind of thrill of dying too (but not a self desctructive one)/the impossibility to ever really grasp anything in your life and the underlying hysteria that all this secret knowledge (and fear) of dying causes. i think this quality, the thematic tightness of it often goes overlooked. there are some obvious ones like 'blackout' and 'thought of a dying atheist', but when you really have a look at it, pretty much everything fits into the theme, even the singles like 'hysteria' and 'time is running out', not to mention the great opening "alarm" of 'apocalypse please' and things like 'stockholm syndrome'.
ok sorry for rambling away.... just something i've been thinking to myself quite a bit lately...
Before Three- A song of rememberance.
Cut Here- A Song of Mourning
Doing The Unstuck- To just get on and live the rest of your life.
That's a good triple threat...
Adonais... at first thought... *goes away to think more about it*
The Walk. It's fun and happy and I wouldn't like someone being sad over my death. I'm only one of like a trillion people after all. :smth023 :smth023 :smth023 :smth023
First of all something to sat the scene - Plainsong
Then something sad to cry about - pictures of you/same deep water as you
Then something to confuse them all like - the lovecats
Alternitvly they could play "ding dong the witch is dead" - lmao :-D

Just like heaven. :smth023
Then i would love some joyful gospel music, and make the quests walk behind my casket dancing
( would love to hear that in real life, one day.) but at my funeral probably wouldnt be many people,
but lots of animals - its nice to have only a few really close friends.(of the human species)
Descent
Cold
New Day
going nowhere
bloodflowers
out of this world
I like that comedy skit Robert does at the grave yard- someones funeral, and they all do a conga line dance with party hats and
party whistles, :rocker
