Curefans member Erik has offered to give me a call periodically as he can during the show and let me know what is happening.  :smth023 We'll give it a try.  If it works great.  If he can't, no big deal.  I told him that enjoying the show is first and foremost, especially since this is the only show he is seeing this tour.

Couldn't hear.  Craig from COF got a hold of his guy and confirmed it was The Perfect Boy.  Craig and I are making one hell of a team tonight! :smth023

The setlist is almost EXACTLY the same set as Fairfax.  let's hope they change it up for the encores

They haven't done the full 17 seconds encore since opening night.  I feel that one is coming.

Let's hope it is coming...but not until Rosemont!  Followed by the Faith encore....

Don't know....but the Old School Encore was just played, as was A Forest.  Could Faith be next?

and no pop encore?  That works for me.

Assuming there is a curfew, they still over a half hour left.  Four dreamy songs would fit perfectly  :smth023

Same encores as Antwerp.  If they're going to do the pop encore they really should play it second.  Ending with that one blows.  :smth011

Aaaaaagh , Damn it.....A golden opportunity to finish with something like "All Cats Are Grey" and maybe Pornography..........and we get soft cock pop...bummer!
Its so disappointing considering the number of great songs they have to choose from.

Nice coverage, but as all of us said: another time is gone, another time undone, the Faith encore or Pornography encore it had been better.

Robert, tell us when you´ll play new songs, YOU DONT HAVE ONLY 45 SONGS !!!!

This is the first Montreal concert in 12 years so not surprising to see a conservative set.  It would be disappointing if tomorrow's show in Toronto isn't a little more interesting....

Well guys,  I'm back after a three hour drive,  from Montreal.

Thanks j for taking the periodic calls from my cell - I couldn't hear you at all - not sure if you heard me ok!!

I'll post more about my impressions later,  to me, the setlist was abit disappointing,  but I agree with the other comments - for the first time in Montreal since 96,  I'm not surprised to see aconservative set - althogh,  I was impressed with the crowd,  I expect the usual jubilation for the JLH/IBD sort of tracks,  but the old school tracks got great crowd enthusiasm,  as did Push and Pictures of you - odd tracks to get people off their feet!

Robert looked like he wanted to linger and return a fourth time,  especially since the encores were short - I really expected a bit more,  but th others didn't seem very into it tonight,  especially Porl.

The setlist did makes its way to a fan,  I got a glimpse,  and two other encore possibilities were listed,  including a Faith encore, with Other Voices and Drowning Man!!!!,  also the KMKMKM one with The Kiss and IOTWCS.

The old school set was shortened,  as was the pop one.
The 17 seconds encore was fantastic though.

More tomorrow
Erik

I could hear you fine, Erik, except for when you said about the Perfect Boy.  Since it was more or less the same setlist as Fairfax, I put Perfect boy in parenthesis with a question mark.  Craig from COF then confirmed with his contact that that was the song that was played.

All in all, it worked very well.  Thanks once again for your efforts Erik and glad that you made it home alright.

I'm not quite sure this is the correct setlist, one thing is certaine is that you inverted encores 2 and 3, they ended with the encore with Killing An Arab.

That's understandable,  the older set encore was by far the better.  It was rather anticlimactic to return with Freakshow/Close to me/WCIBY?...

I have to say this was interesting to hear them play without keys,  and some songs were pulled off amazingly well,  the whole 17 seconds was great,  Plainsong surprised me,  The Walk too

Interestingly,  the two that fell flatter than I'd hoped for were FTEOTDGS and Disintegration.  Both epic tracks that really didn't pull me in at all.
I love Wrong Number (I know many of you don't),  but really disliked it live,  likewise with Never Enough (which I don't enjoy much anyway)

This was my fifth time seeing them since '89,  and it's funny how you folow a band so closely,  but your relationship changes to the songs.  It seems a bit silly at times...  watching Robert at 49,  grimacing and dancing to radio pop like WCIBY?.  At one point it had an important counterbalance to the heavier dark stuff,  but now even he doesn't seem nearly as invested in the despair of the older tracks.  So everything seems more of a melting pot now: the darker tracks have lost some of their teen angst - especially since Robert was in such good spirits,  and has taken to entertaining the crowd,  which is quite funny!

Not to say I didn't love it - it was the happiest I've ever been, listening to the Cure (last seen in 2000)-  I guess we all outgrow some of the inner torture.  After all, the crowd is older,  wider, and many like me, balder! Life goes on... But I did sing along and jump along to everything,  and got an amazing 3hours out of it.  And I still hope they return to promote the new CD. :D

By the way,  I'd never heard of 65DOS,  and I totally loved it - pounding drums,  yet quite atmospheric at times.  I wish them well!

Erik

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the show, Erik.  I totally agree about ending with the pop encore.  I'm certain it will be played at all of the shows to promote single number two (Freakshow).  Ending with that one just doesn't work like it did in the old days, though.
