Title: Please Project
Post by: splitmilk34 on October 08, 2007, 14:30:02
Hey folks... anyone have a link to an audio-only version of the new song "Please Project"?  I can't really take the whole distorted video clip thing.  Thanks a bunch!

Very ashamed about it!!
i hope this is a bad joke: This song should not take part of any cure album; including that failure from 2004 called the cure!!  Ariel

I've probably listened to it 15 times over the last 18 hours.  It reminds me of Signal to Noise and Cut Here, for some reason, but I think its better than both of those.  It does take some time to get into and the lyrics don't appear to be particularly deep and meaningful.  I do like the music though, it gets quite catchy after a while.

It's not going to be a jlh or a fteotdgs, but it's nothing to be ashamed of either.

Maybe I missed something, but how are we sure of the title of this song? (the name sounds really stupid to me)

It kind of reminds me of back in 1995 when people were guessing at the names of the new songs, based on the Glastonbury Festival broadcast:

Lip Power (Mint Car)
Mink Car (Mint Car)
Jobe To Crush (Jupiter Crash)

I heard mention somewhere that a Bostonian got hold of the setlist, and that Please Project was the title given. Of course, it could just be a working title.

And I really like this song -- I really think it's a great little pop song; much beyond what I'd expected. The bass is very 'High,' which I always thought was the best part of the song.

I very much this makes the album. I think it could be a successful single.

Musically, I think it's very nice.  Lyrically, if this is what we've been waiting for, I think we may be in trouble.

Yeah, musically it's ok â€" but the lyrics are weird.

"I love what you do to my hips."  Ummm... Strange mental imagery there.

"I love what you do to my hair. It's a mess up there."  Ok, I'll admit that's pretty funny. :-D

Amazing song, i cant wait for the new album
Does anyone have what the lyrics are?

This is what i got:
QuoteOh I love, Oh I love, Oh I love what you do to my head,
When You push me upstairs and you pull me to bed.
I love what you do to my head, Its a mess up there...

Oh I love, Oh I love, Oh I love what you do to my heart
When you push me back down and you pull me apart
I love what you do to my heart, its the best oh yeah

Your the only one i try for
the only one id die to ???
Your the only one i sigh for
the only one i try to please

It gets better every day i say; with you its such a scream
It gets better every day i say; with you its so real
it gets better every day i say; with you its like a dream

Oh I love Oh I love Oh I love what you do to my lips
when you pull me up side and throw me like this
I love what you do to my lips, its so sweet there...

Oh I love, Oh I love what you do to my hips
pull me up side and suck me like this
I love what you do to my hips its the best oh yeah

Your the only one i sigh for
the only one i try to please
Your the only one i try for
the only one id die to ???

It gets better every day i say; with you its such a scream
It gets better every day i say; with you its so extreme
it gets better every day i say; with you its like a dream
Oh I love, Oh I love, Oh I love what you do to me

The only word i cant get is what he says after "the only one id die to", it sounds like win or wake or even way but im not sure

Title: Please Project Lyrics
Post by: APinkDream on October 09, 2007, 18:50:56
Here are the lyrics-- at least I think theses are the lyrics-- of the new song Please Project.

Oh I love, Oh I love
Oh I love what you do to my head
When you push me upstairs and you pull me to bed
I love what you do to my hair
It's a mess up there

Oh I love, Oh I love
Oh I love what you do to my heart
When you push me back down and then pull me apart
I love what you do to my heart
It's the best, Oh yeah

You're the only one I'd try for
You're the only one I'd die to win
You're the only one I satisfy, the only one I've tried to please
And it gets better every day, I said, with you it's extreme
Yeah it gets better every day, I said, with you it's so real
It gets better every day, I said, you are such a dream!

Oh I love, Oh I love
Oh I love what you do to my lips
When you pull me outside and you blow me like this
I love what you do to my lips
It's so sweet in there

Oh I love, love love love what you do to my hips
Throw me outside and then suck me like this
I love what you do to my hips
You bet. Oh, yeah!

You're the only one I'd try for
The only one ………………
The only one I sigh for, the only one I'd die to be
And it gets better every day, I said, with you it's smooth
And it gets better every day, I said, with you it's extreme
And it gets better every day, I said, with you it's like my dream!

Oh I love, Oh I love
Oh I love what you do to me!!!

Rob is just showing his naughty side.
But, I hope the whole album doesn't go into this direction.
I would like to see some darker or sadder songs.

Edit: Or,rather, songs with more lyrical value.

Remember that the new album is said to have a KMKMKM feel to it.  Think about a song like All I Want where Robert is singing about...well, doing the deed from behind.    "I love what you do to my hips." seems rather tame when comparing the two.

Yeah, but All I Want is more metaphorical.

Thinking about an old, chubby man's hips against a backdrop of blissfully happy music doesn't really do it for me, sorry.

I think it's funny -- and I think it's meant to be. The lyrics, I mean.

Robert, I'm sure, is acutely aware of his age, of his looks, and of his weight. I think it's very obviously meant to be a joke song. Something to laugh along with -- people (not just here) seem to be seeing this as an indication that the new album is going to all be stupid, half-baked songs, without an ounce of seriousness.

It's like people have forgotten entirely the distinction between a pop song single and something dirgy like Disintegration. Just because a pop song's got dumb lyrics (and I very much LIKE these dumb lyrics!) doesn't mean that Robert's forgotten how to string songwords together.

And that's my rant....

I love live songs, I really do... but it's not fair to judge a song until you've heard the recorded studio version.  I happen to think "Never Enough" is a good studio song but absolutely loathe it live.  I will wait to pass judgment until the album/song is released.

Maybe, you can tell Robert's right in that hes struggling to come up with words here, nice tune though.......

an instrumental album would be great, with Roberts vocals like in Tape, that'd be awesome. Like Mogwai meets The Cure......  8)

Now that's a good idea, I think. I love Robert's lyrics (mostly), but Tape might be his best vocal performance. It really, well, works. Well, it's either Tape or The Drowning Man.

I wonder if Tape-ish things are what Robert means when he talks about there being instrumentals on the album?

*Is curious...*

Nowt wrong with hips, lips & oral pleasure (IMHO)
The song's growing on me actually.
If the album is going to be in the same vein as KMKMKM, then to prejudge on the strength of this one song is a little hasty.

yeah maybe but it's a different thing whether it's an interesting/relevant subject for a song. (or a hugely interesting topic for conversation either if you ask me.)
i mean, everyone goes to the toilet too but don't exactly feel the need to write songs about it (at least most people don't, thankfully).
like mentioned above, chubby 50-year-old man's hips isn't my top choice of imagery against a backdrop of happy music. and maybe it's meant to be sarcastic, but even then no it just still doesn't do it for me somehow.
so... here's some more:

and no, i'm not judging the album according to this song (because there is no album to judge yet!). so let's see and wait and hope for better, sure. but since there was all that talk about robert's writer's block earlier this year, i couldn't/can't help paying extra attention to words here... and well it just didn't really manage to convince me differently either: at the moment it looks like the writer's block was/is for real. :?

I dont mind it, I try not to think too much about lyrics for this kind of track

Musically it reminds me of faster versions of A letter to elise and then what follows is like Just like Heaven.

come to think of it, at the speed it is played it reminds me very much of the remixes of those two songs

considering it is the first time played live, and possibly first time out of studio, it is pretty good. Might be that they have nailed the track but still working on lyrics.

maybe they check Curefans.com to see what the fans think.

with some promo it could be a good single (especially with the hips line)

Id be happy just to hear the Cure on the radio - extremely rare here in south oz, I didnt even hear them on radio when they played here (over two months ago now, boo hoo)

If people really think that this song sets the tone for the album (which is crazy), the band should introduce a new, long, dark, brooding song to start off the Mexico shows.  That'll teach 'em!

MAYBE ITS BECAUSE ITS THE FIRST NEW SONG AFTER 3 YEARS HIATUS
BUT
I LOVE THE SONG!!!

I'M LISTENING TO IT ALL DAY AND I CANT GET ENOUGH...

IT STARTS SO GREAT
IT HAS THAT ENORMOUSLY POSITIVE LYRICS
GREAT MELODY
A BIT PREDICTABLE BRIDGE
SIMON'S BASS REALLY ROCKS (AS ALWAYS)
PORL'S GUITAR SOUNDS LIKE KEYBOARDS BUT I WOULD LOVE IT EVEN MORE IF THE KEYBOARDS WERE REAL (THEN AGAIN MAYBE THEY  ARE, I DIDNT CHECK)
IT ENDS SO SUDDENLY

THIS SONG IS TOTALLY 2004 IN SPIRIT (IT VERY MUCH "BELONGS TO THE CURE SESSIONS")

I LOVE IT!

:) :) :)

OH, I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you think about it from another angle, then perhaps after the sh!tstorm caused by the postponements, they needed to offer something a little special.
I'm also doubtful that "please project" is the real title.
It may just have been a project to please everyone.

hehe the old man's gone nuts if he'd seriously think he could please everyone with some poppy re-make of a wish-era song.  :-D
and i don't mean i disliked the song but everyone is just a big word...

~Fun reading, this- thats for sure.

Iam surprised by the lyrics, it reminds me of an online conversation Robert had with a troublesum forum,
But to find it and post it would take hours, In it he was saying something like :

" tour is postponed not cancelled
now iam going up to the stairs to bed,........(over and over and many *sighs in it-poor guy was thrown around
alot that night)  . . Now iam moving from the middle stair to the top." etc and you could tell he was fed up and
tired, but kept coming back to answer silly questions.

As usual i have the pages saved on my pc(which is dead) - and also using mac.  But i might try find it for interest.

It's getting better each time I listen to it. Good to bounce around the house to, not that I can dance unfortunately :-D

dancing is like art.. in the eyes of the beholder, aslong as you are groovin' it baby, you're movin' it!!! If you're shakin' it , your'e makin' it happen.. don't worry about other's views!!  :smth023 Have you seen the way the (younger) ones dance??? I can't move like that either.. :-D :-D

As far as the Please Project song.. well I can't get enough.. and countdown to more released soon, i.e. THE ALBUM!!

Its definately a grower, every time i listen to it, i like it more.

"its gets better every day i said"....... see, does what it says on the tin.  ;)

I guess it is very Wish era, but theres nothing wrong with that.
Enough, from all these people saying anyone who likes it, does so just because they think 'oh, The Cure can do no wrong' ........... rubbish, get your head out of 1989, stop waiting for pornography part 2 and recoginse a good song when you hear it  ;)

It might be a simple pop song, but I find it an encouraging sign.

The guitar and bass put me in mind of wish era songs of the High & Deep Green Sea variety.

I'm sure over the span of a double album there will be a good mix of light and dark, fast and slow, so no need to fret just yet.

I just cant get over Porls guitar, he is so amazing, The ears deceive when you think its keyboards- he is amazing.

And i remember the concert in Melb often, yeh the drums were great, kept me grounded and in total contact with
the whole set.,  I luv drums but dont listen to them (consciously)  or think of them often,  but afterwards i realised
he's work is understated, and irreplaceable.  :rocker

Luv the new song and cant wait for more and more.

I love it, it's a little more dirty than I'm used to from The Cure, but it's fun and has a good rhythm to it. I really wish that the album would come out already... I'm itching to hear it!

Love this song too, especially melody-wise. Had no idea he sung "suck me like this" until now...the only lyrics I've found on the net say "insult me like this", but perhaps they were too  to hear what he was really singing...? Well, guess Robert has grown a little gutsier since the (deliciously) ambiguous A Man Inside My Mouth...

the more i hear it, the more... useless it is. like someone somewhere here originally pointed out, the music is just a reprise of 'a letter to elise' (they just speeded it up).
and the lyrics are - pretty stupid.

Are they really that similar? Hasn't occurred to me. Oh well, when you've made as many songs as The Cure has, there are bound to be bits and pieces of songs that reincarnate, more or less...no idea if it really was intentional this time.

I really like it... light, funny, makes me want to flit around the house singing it .. not all lyrics have to "mean" something! Mind you, can't help but think what's inspired Robert here...pretty risque for him!! Nice. This with " A boy I never Knew".  I'd buy it!!
Different strokes for different folks!  :smth023

IT'S A REALLY NICE SONG!
MAKES ME WISH ROBERT WAS IN HIS 20'S AGAIN...

IF THEY PUT IT OUT AS A FIRST SINGLE, IT COULD SCRATCH THE TOP 20 FOR A WEEK OR TWO...

AND OFCOURSE, THE VIDEO HAS TO BE GREAT TOO...

Yeah, the video....hope they'll have a stand-in for Robert during the more, hrm, intimate scenes. Otherwise you will most certainly not be the only one wishing he was in his 20's again.

I really like it too for the exact same reasons you've pointed out Melly...it's light, funny, happy...and it has a way of getting stuck in my head and making me smile.  So what if the lyrics are a little silly?  I need a little silliness every now and then...  :D

That's true Janko.  We'll have to wait and see.  But I won't be heartbroken if it they do turn out to be the final lyrics...
