This is simply a homage to one of The Cure's most haunting and beautiful ballads. A song that proves that occasionally The Cure in the 2000's can be as great as they have ever been.

So, without further words, I leave you with:

A live version (Toronto 2004)

The original studio version,
with those beautifully prolonged majestic keyboards (and a sort of romantic photo-sequence 'video' by some fan of the band):

The song lyrics:

A year ago today we stood
Above this same awakening world
I held you...
You never wanted me to know

Another year ago today
Before this same awakening world
I held you...
I never meant to let you go

There was a moment
There always is
When time stood still
And always was this...

One endless moment
You turn in pain
And I always let you go
Over and over again...

A year ago tonight we lay
Below this same remembering sky
I kissed you
You never wanted me to know...

Another year ago tonight
Behind this same remembering sky
I kissed you...
I never meant to let you go

Another moment
There always is
As time stands still
And always is this...

One endless moment
You tell me all
And I hold you and I kiss you
And I never let you go
I never let you go...

this song is one of my fav on "the cure" album. When I heard for the first time Anniversary I knew that is excellent song. I love this so much :) here are unbelievable keyboards, and of course beautiful lyrics...
...sleep sweet child the moon will change your mind...

This hauntingly beautiful song has a special place for me. The music leaves me awestruck everytime I listen and the words touch me deeply each time I hear them. Seeing the words here in black and white ..............
well
emotion starts to take over, but hey isn't that the beauty of the song?

The clip via the link is beautiful.
The other one feeds on my hesitation
Grows inside of my trepidaton
Buries his claws in my dislocation
I whisper your name to lose control

Cure

this song's fabulous but soo underrated, pitty :(
[b]floating here like this with you
underneath the stars
alight for 13 billion years
the view is beautiful
and ours alone tonight
underneath the stars

strangely enough, there are some cure fans who don't like this song at all, and I think, how is this possible???? And it's not a particular case, I know there are several of them. I would understand if it was another song, but.... anyway, it's the cure, so expect the unexpected.

Apparently it is kind of underrated by The Cure themselves: they only played it live some 12 times, all of them in 2004 (statistics included in http://www.foreverdrowning.net/stats.php?stat=all).

Anniversary is brilliant.

Fun little factoid: Though the two songs are almost certainly otherwise unrelated, Anniversary was the working title for High.
Another Curefan for The Dark Christmas album.

Now, that's curious. It is a coincidence that the next "song worship thread" I was thinking of creating is actually about 'High'...

Anniversary is one of the reasons I miss Perry. He wrote the music to this and Trust, two of my favorite post-Disintegration Cure songs. :( I wish they'd bring him back; a lot of what the band have been playing could use either a third guitar or keyboards. And being third guitarist, he wouldn't have to be Porl-status... just competent!

Well, I didn't know that. Where did you get that information from? Some inteview with Perry? Maybe we should add this info to that song credits thread that is around here somewhere...

Up, up, up!

Probably my favourite Cure song right now...
