Title: A letter to...The Cure?
Post by: KissingCrimson_x on February 05, 2010, 18:54:09
Hey everyone!

I was just wondering if any of you have ever written a letter to any members (past or present) of The Cure.
If so what did you say?
And...
Did they write back?

(And I'm not asking for any addresses, I'm just curious!)

In the late 80´s I made a cartoon called Charlotte Sometimes and one of the characters that occationally made an appearance was Robert Smith. I wrote to Fiction (their record company at the time) to ask for permission but never heard anything. I went on anyway and used the RS character whenever I found it apropriate for the stories. Since the cartoon was never published in any major papers or magazines there was never any problem of issues concerning copyrights or personal integrities.

Amanda Palmer (singer) wrote a mega long fan letter that she wrote years back (I believe) When I get home, I'll try and find the link and post it.
As for me, I've never wrote a fan letter to them, ever 8)

This site

http://www.fanmail.biz (http://www.fanmail.biz)

is the best to find address from our favourite artists.

Here's an example of a signed DVD sent by Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) to a fan

http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic.php?t=128159 (http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic.php?t=128159)

For Robert Smith, the address is

http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=103794 (http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=103794)

However, since (it seems) The Cure does not longer belongs to Geffen I would suggest to hold on until further notice...

I wrote to the Cure over 20 years ago. I sent a photo of my boys aged 8 and 10 doing their Robert Smith impression and asked if the band were likely to be touring again and what age was appropriate to go to a Cure concert. I sent it via the fanzine I was a member of at the time and really didn't expect to ever hear back.

But I did...... A hand written letter from Robert himself along with a demo cd of Just Like Heaven which was signed. In the letter Robert said they were currently working on that 'difficult 10th album' and that age 10 was old enough to go to the concert.

Unfortunately, my ex hubby took the letter when he left but I've never forgotten the contents and am still amazed that he took the time to write back. I will forever be grateful to him for giving up his time for me and my boys.

My boys are in their 30's now and still huge fans. We shall all be going to the concerts in Manchester and London in a couple of weeks and I'm beyond excited as it will be my first time seeing them live.

My advice is write. Don't expect anything but hope anyway. You never know. One thing is for sure. If you don't write, you'll never get a letter back.

Good luck  :)

Thank you for sharing. I understand that you are still affected by this letter, I would also be ! And I totally agree with you, if you do not try to write, no chance of a return. The problem is that today there is no longer way to send a personal letter and I find this damage.

Never sent a letter but through FB or friend on FB, it's been pretty difficult to contact some, buy I've gotten responses from Perry, Andy Anderson, Roger, Reeves, Lol and Pearl via someone else.  I'd rather not say who in order to prevent them from the inevitable bombardment with requests.  These guys are all cool, like to answer coherent questions and like-as-like-not will give you a bit of their time as long as you are respectful and not demanding.  And leave the fan-boy/fan-girl shit out.  And keep it relevant, ask something specific.  So, you've got 48 hours to go try to contact and get a response from your Cure member of choice.  Let me know how successful you were, of course!

Yes. I wrote once a letter to the Berlin agency of the record company
and requested for a B-Side compilation. They sent me a short negative reply,
but after a year or so Join the Dots came out and I was stunned.
