Rules: A poster types a song title and the song's artist. The next poster has to use one word from that song title or duplicate the singer instead and have no word in common in the song title (use this second rule just in an extreme case, when is too difficult to find a word to propose a new song)
Example:
Poster 1: The Cure - One More Time
Poster 2: Pink Floyd - Time
or
Poster 2: The Cure - Push
Please notice:
1) Articles (a, an, the) and pronouns (he, she, you, they, we, etc.) can not be proposed as a new word for a song's title.
Example:
WRONG
Poster 1: The Cure - The Big Hand
Poster 2: Queen - The Hero
CORRECT
Poster 1: B52'S - Hero Worship
Poster 2: Queen - The Hero
2) The same word cannot be used as a linking word more than twice in a row (unless it can not be avoided, for instance with one-word song names). Example:
Poster 1: Never enough
Poster 2: Never let me down again
Poster 3: Never ending story
In this case, Poster 3 can NOT use again "Never" because Poster 1 and Poster 2 already did.
Enjoy!

Actually, two words at maximum. 'The' is not a word.
Articles (a/an/the) shouldn't count as words here (although it's been used several times in the thread already - besides it's just way too easy to come up with song names that have 'the' in them) and neither should pronouns. They are not technically words.

hmm ok well, i talked about this with native english speakers and they said 'the' shouldn't count as a word in this kind of games.
anyway, it's not about whether it's a real word or not. i was mainly thinking that it's just pretty boring if we start to link lots of song names with 'the' in them because it's so damn easy to find such song names. one doesn't need to use any imagination/inventivess.
so, to avoid it in the future, how about we have a rule that one cannot use the same word as a link twice in a row (unless it cannot be avoided, for instance with one-word song names)? it would keep the links more interesting.

Sure, "the" is a word — but really all too common of one.
I had been meaning to suggest that we adjust the rules to exclude articles (a, an, the), pronouns (he, she, you, they, we, etc.), and prepositions (of, from, through, with, about, like, etc.)
And the same would go for other languages, of course. ;)
It would keep the game a lot more interesting. Indeed, if "the" were allowed, things could continue indefinitely using this one word as there are literally thousands (millions?) of songs with this word in the title. That wouldn't be much fun.
The game can still continue successfully (with much more of a challenge) if we discourage the use of such words!

After reading the suggestions here, I changed some of the game rules.

But can't you use the band's name?
Rules: A poster types a song title and the song's artist. The next poster has to use one word from that song title.
Or, duplicate the singer instead, and have no word in common in the song title.Example:
Poster 1:
The Cure - One More Time
Poster 2: Pink Floyd - Time
or
Poster 2:
The Cure - Push
Surely it's more fun and sometimes more challenging to come up with a word (the only word) from a song, though. I'd prefer to avoid using this option myself. However, sometimes, with a "problematique" word it might be necessary.
crowbi is right, you can either
1) take a word from a song's title and propose a new song with that word
or
2) take the same band and propose a new song.
it's in the rules.
so fiction was right when he proposed "Salad - What Do You Say About That?"
So in my case I will use the 2nd rule (I think is again necessary) to propose:
The Police - Message In A Bottle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLFF2P8fInI#noexternalembed)
:smth020
Bottle Rocket -The Cunninghams
Bottle Rocket (http://www.clevver.com/music/video/28785/the-cunninghams-bottle-rockets.html)
Second time I've mentioned this band on Curefans: http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,3438.msg64258.html#msg64258 (http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,3438.msg64258.html#msg64258) Not a big fan of them, just know them because they're from Seattle. Had a few okay songs on the album, but mostly over-processed mid-90s crap. I wonder if I can work anymore of their songs in during the game.

Oh crap. Seems I messed up. I was thinking jb did 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins, not Rocket. That 1992 through me off. That's what I get for trying to use my brain before having my giant cup of coffee. So, mine doesn't count.
However, jbud went with a Smashing Pumpkins song, thus keeping the game going. Well played! :smth023 I goofed and you still made it work.
To answer your question about numbers, the way I see it is 1979 breaks down to
nineteen seventy-nine when written out. My (incorrectly played) song was called 319, or three hundred and
nineteen, thus making nineteen the common word.
Anyway, we're back on track do to jbud being clever or lucky(?).

Nah, it´s basicly because I think it looks cool that way and since I wrote it like that the first time i just keep the fashion going.
Sorry, but I had interpreted the "duplicate the singer" part to only be used for desperate situations, where it would virtually impossible to continue on due to an obscure song name.
Otherwise, one could just continue on with every song ever made by Eels, and then maybe continue on with The Cure, and then perhaps U2, etc. This could constitute the next 3000 posts or so. :?
In my opinion, this game should be more challenging than that.
Well, I really do think we need more clarification on the rules. Right now I'm not sure what to do...
Sorry, but I still don't see your point, it's not because I choose for the second time Eels that the game is gonna be only with Eels songs :-D
I took that because I was thinking of that song at that moment and otherwise we had a second in row with the comment word "mental". Even that is boring in my opinion ;)
If I count all my posts in this topic, I mentioned around 19 different singers or bands.
So what's the problem, I saw also lots off posts with Bon Jovi and The Ramones, So what??

I guess I missed that preposistions can't be used. But why not? I can understand banning pronouns and articles or conjunctions, but not being able to use any of these seems a bit strict:

* around

* at

Hi Trust, I believe the reason for your error is because you violated the second rule, which I copied and pasted below.
2) One can not use the same word twice in a row (unless it cannot be avoided, for instance with one-word song names)
i dunno, i could be wrong...
I just updated for the second and last time in this year the game rules. I take crowbi_wan suggestion and clarified other rules with examples. Hope is clear now.
Happy New Year everyone!
QuoteRules: A poster types a song title and the song's artist. The next poster has to use one word from that song title or duplicate the singer instead and have no word in common in the song title (use this second rule just in an extreme case, when is too difficult to find a word to propose a new song)
Example:
Poster 1: The Cure - One More Time
Poster 2: Pink Floyd - Time
or
Poster 2: The Cure - Push
Please notice:
1) Articles (a, an, the) and pronouns (he, she, you, they, we, etc.) can not be proposed as a new word for a song's title.
Example:
WRONG
Poster 1: The Cure - The Big Hand
Poster 2: Queen - The Hero
CORRECT
Poster 1: B52'S - Hero Worship
Poster 2: Queen - The Hero
2) Words can not be used twice in a row (unless it cannot be avoided, for instance with one-word song names). Example:
Poster 1: Never enough
Poster 2: Never let me down again
Poster 3: Never ending story
In this case, Poster 3 can NOT use again "Never" because Poster 1 and Poster 2 already did.
Enjoy!

sorry crowbi, that won't do since you're using two common words:

Yes, the rules say you must use one word, though they don't say you
can't use two. ;) Besides, pronouns don't count.
So, we're back to my submission of
Do You Realize.
i'm not trying to pass as a flawless person (and those who wish to smite me for it, be my guest, i don't care :) )
so if i used two words before, ok that was mistake that someone should have pointed out then.
anyway, only one word should be used as david has pointed out during the game. see for instance:
http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6493.msg66995.html#msg66995 (http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6493.msg66995.html#msg66995)

Stone Roses is a real mystery to me. i think their second album is one of the best albums in the 90s, yet their debut is just another britpop album, i never understood why it was so considered so awesome. well maybe because it sort of started the britpop scene etc. anyway, just my opinion. it's just something that really puzzles me, for me it's hard to find another band with two such different albums. 'second coming' really rocks! they would have been awesome if they had continued on from that.
in this case fiction was ok, cause "now" was just used for me. lostflower used the word "pink" before.

no but it was used twice: first by you, then by fiction. that makes two times in a row, right?
since you already used that word, whoever replies after you (in this case fiction) should pick a different word, not the same one.

Good point.
It's my mistake because in my example in the rules was contradictory (I used "twice in a row")
http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6493.0.html (http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6493.0.html)
(btw no-one noticed this before)
The basic idea is that a word can't be re-used if was already used twice in a row.
I changed "twice in a row" to "three times in a row" to make it clear, and coherent with the example.

I like other songs on the album, but tend to favor their older material as a whole. In my opinion the symphony is the best song (or songs, depending on how you look at it). Unnatural Selection and MK Ultra are a couple of good ones that translate well when seeing them live. Bounds was used three times in a row, though. That's a no-no.
Depends how you interprete it 8)
The game says you can't use a word as a base to propose another song.
In this case, jb used "out", then losflower used "bound" and then Trust used "bound".
It's true that the word "bound" was present in both jb and lostflower's songs, but it was not *used* to propose a song.

Sure, I see what you're saying, but...
2)
Words can not be used three times in a row (unless it can not be avoided, for instance with one-word song names). Example:
Poster 1: Never enough
Poster 2: Never let me down again
Poster 3: Never ending story
In this case, Poster 3 can NOT use again "Never" because Poster 1 and Poster 2 already did.
Seems pretty clear that words cannot be used three times in a row.
So, what's the verdict here and what song are we on?
If you take a look at the example, "Never" is the "main" word used.
I would suggest you in cases like this just ignore the thing and continue playing, otherwise we would stop everytime for the "rules" ;)

it's not a question of interpretation (let's not make the rules even more complicated than they already are by adding interpretations to the list...).
bon jovi - OUT of bounds
Gods of Luxury - No Bounds
= the word 'bound' has been used ONCE already which is the maximum
Party Out of BOUNDS - B-52's
= 'the same word was used as a linking word for the second time - which is too much.
so, the rules would be so much more simple if they said "the same word may not be used as a linking word TWICE in a row". that's what it's supposed to mean.
i've edited the rules to say this clearly, because it's just too messy now.
i agree, too many rules make this ridiculous. but there's no point of just saying "let's not care, just continue - because why would we even have any rules then in the first place? ;)

"Hassel" is a common misspelling or typo for: hassle.
Even the spell check gave the word hassle for the word HASSEL ?

Actually the example of the rules is pretty clear. Person 1 uses a song BASED on the word "never" (as "Never enough"), then Peson 2 can also use a song BASED in the word "never" as "Never let me down again", however, person 3 can NOT used a song BASED in the word "Never".

When I proposed this game there was only one rule: take a word from a song and propose another song OR propose a different song with the same artist. New rules were proposed for different members later, so now we have to live with it ;)

I personally won't point any mistake unless I see a person using the same word all over or similar. For pointing mistakes I encourage people to do it by private message so we let the game going on.

david, that's the whole problem here. i think everyone else is using the rule the way i wrote it, apart from you.
look: i proposed this rule and i clearly said "twice in a row": http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6493.msg67147.html#msg67147 (http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6493.msg67147.html#msg67147)
you interpreted that wrong and made a rule that said "three times in a row" - and therefore, all this - should i say, hassle (or hassel :-D).
i very clearly suggested that the same word shouldn't be used as a link more than twice. and that's the way people have been trying to play this game too, so far.

nobody here is pointing out mistakes just for the sake of it. i've pointed out mistakes, yes - but i've also made mistakes myself and someoe else has pointed it out. no big deal at all.
personally i see no point of sending some pms if it has no effect on what's going on - why even send any pms then? i don't get it.
why don't we introduce the rules that were written down the way crowbi proposed them (privately). they were so much more simple to grasp and very clear to understand.
it's just a game after all, let's use the clear rules and save all of our time.

see easily wat you should see, just the earlier songs ;) This game can be simple, we just make it to complex I think. My opinion ;)

Poster 3: Never ending story (NOT OK, have been used twice before)
Am I wrong?
yes it says that because you miscorrected it back again - after i had corrected it properly.
look: i'll to demonstrate what was meant originally = how the rule should be:
Poster 1: Never Enough
= there must have been a song with a word 'enough' before this post. that word has been used already, so the ext poster should pick a song that has the word 'never'.
like this:
Poster 2: Never Let me Down again (OK)
and then, since the word 'never' has already been used as a link word once, the next poster must use some other link word -
because the same word should not be used as a link word twice.therefore the next person can NOT post:
Poster 3: Never ending story (NOT OK, have been used twice before)
= not ok because it was used already.
this is really very simple. please go back and read my previous post, there's a link to the post where this rule was originally suggested.
and you can see it was meant to be like this.
i don't know what's so difficult in this, really.

yes it's there because you misuderstood the original suggesiton and wrote it like that.

Poster 1: Never Enough
= there must have been a song with a word 'enough' before this post. that word has been used already, so the ext poster should pick a song that has the word 'never'.
like this:
Ok, I see what's the problem here.
Because in my example, Poster 1 is what you call "the song with the word 'enough' before this post", your Poster 1 is my Poster 2, and your Poster 2 is my Poster 3. See what I'm talking about? We mean the same thing.
In conclusion:
If I apropose now:
Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
someone else can propose
The Cure - Cut Here
And a third post can not use "here" as a word base to popose a new song because it was already used twice. Pretty clear to me and that's the example I was trying to give in the rules (http://curefans.com/index.php/topic,6493.0.html). But if you think is not clear, go ahead and change it.
All this vanal discussion made me think on the people there on Haiti. We're really lucky people to have time discussion trivial stuff.

Rich Man's Spiritual is a song name... ;)
(This song gives me a headache...could someone do a ukulele version maybe? And sing it at least half an octave lower, pretty please with cherries on top?)
My personal challenge is to only post songs I love by my very favorite artists, so skipping some of the more obvious candidates with "day" in the title to post this absolute masterpiece. Hope it's visible because Can videos are often blocked in different parts of the world.

This isn't bad at all. From 2016, it seems.

This one is at once silly & sublime. The beauty of the singer & the vibraphone solo is deliberately offset by what I'm guessing is a tribute to the Human Behavior video? Anyway, love this group, always have.
