Hey, hope I'm not breaking forum rules here, but I'm writing from Nerve.com, and we were planning a piece for this week, pegged to the 25th anniversary of The Queen Is Dead, about why we love The Smiths and can't stand The Cure. But it seemed a little unfair to make it one-sided, so we're looking for someone who loves The Cure and can't stand The Smiths. I thought this might be the right place to ask. Would anyone here like to write that? It'd just be a few hundred words--making an argument about why The Cure is better--and we think it'd be a really fun discussion. If you're interested, please let me know soon--we have to turn this around quickly. You can email me at peter at nerve dot com. Thanks!

Ah, thanks. Here's the piece, if you're interested:

I was actually exaggerating my case a little. Don't kill me! :)

Best,
Peter

Whiskers

Never understood the appeal of the song "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others," but Smiths fans seem to love it.

My kids say the same thing whiskers. I like it & I like The Smiths but "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" is my favourite.
There was a thread sometime ago about The Cure covering songs & a song you'd be interested in hearing them cover. I think " How Soon Is Now" by The Smiths could be quite awesome.  :smth020
The other one feeds on my hesitation
Grows inside of my trepidaton
Buries his claws in my dislocation
I whisper your name to lose control

Personally, in the argument for The Cure vs The Smiths, I'd (obviously) say that The Cure is the better band. Unlike The Smiths, they aren't a one-trick pony. I can't think of too many other bands off the top of my head that have gone through so many sounds in their career (just the shift from Pornography to The Top is something most bands could never do successfully). The Smiths aren't a bad-sounding band, but it seems that if you've heard one song of theirs without knowing what album it's on, it could be off of any of them.
