Definetly "Push". It's so powerful, so clear and so coooool!!!!! :D
Best Song from this record.
Kyoto Song for me.
The Blood!! :smt035 ol??!! :-D

This is my best song of this album :D and who forget it in your poll :(

Push is the most powerful song of The Cure, it brings you energies and put you on your feed on a bad. It's a song to destroy things, scream and be happy. And it's without any doubt the best of this album....
go..go..go...!!!!! :rocker
David.
Though Push, so powerfulllllllll

You say everything
:-D
Push,It has its open guitar and the drums come in. Its bass lines are strong.
Your Friend, Curetastraphy
I really love "Six Different Ways." It's just a goofy and fun song to listen to.
the head on the door is my favorite album. i honestly don't think there is a weak song on this album.
push is my favorite. and not just from the head on the door. it's my favorite cure track. it's so powerful and poppy. :rocker it follows a classic cure song structure (long instrumental, then repeat w/ vocals on top). it always puts a smile on my face. i like the story it tells. and live...WOW!!! pure bliss. i think i'll listen to it now. :smt020
sinking should not be overlooked. such a magical song that captures something we all go through. getting old :(
-brian
smear this man across the wall...
damn hard to say, how can i compare sinking and push?
push
it enlives. moreover, the best thing to listen to when on the autobahn/highway
I was torn between "Push" and "Sinking"... but I chose "Sinking". With it's cascading synths, addictive basslines, and great lyrics it overpowers me everytime.
Sinking. One of the best songs Mr.Smith has ever written. I love it, love it, love it!!!!!!!!!
The Blood is really different but one thing I've always loved about the cure is their ability to take any song style and add their little touch to it. Push definitely has the best guitar of any Cure song and would have to be my next choice.
push. full of energy with fantastic riff.
i chose 6 different ways, because it's so delicately weird
for me: A NIGHT LIKE THIS is one of the best cure songs EVER!!!!!!
anyway, the head on the door (and disintegration) is my favourite album, so is very dificult to me to choose only one song of this album
kyoto song, the blood, push, sinking... ARE GREAAAAT too!!
I voted for "powerful" PUSH!
Push is powerfull in studio and live
always loved "the baby screams", great opener for the 1985-tour, good to hear it in 2005 again
curiosa frank
Push is amazing
I love Inbetween days too!
Push.
Because of its dynamic sound.
A Night Like This. I've liked this song since day one.
Push comes as second, Sinking is the third.
push, itsthe best track to listen live. besides the lyrics are so great, formeits a about givin birth jajajajaj
PUSH is so damn excellent!
...push it away!!
A night like this, I listen evry day! :smth020
a night like this
kyoto song for me .
Go
Go
Go!
the head on the door is such a brilliant album.
but i have some sort of weakness for a night like this
the intro to that song... i dont know it just sticks with me
A NIGHT LIKE THIS :rocker I never tire of this....
great album!!
Push is also a favourite.... and Kyoto song actually grows and grows on me every time I listen to the album :smth023
This album was my initial contact with The Cure; and I remember A night like this specially :smth020
Why don't you re-open this polls? There are a lot of new people here and while we are waiting for the new album could be a good idea review all albums and share new votes... Thanks! ;)

I agree :smth023
My favorites are:
Inbetween Days
Push
The Blood
Close to Me
Well the voting is closed, but I would have voted for Push.
I was surprised that the least favorite turned out to be Close to Me, I thought Screw would have turned out to be the one to get less votes....I have heard a lot of people say they dislike that song. And so do I... :?
Interesting result.
I would have chosen Sinking tbh. Screw is alright, but Six Different ways??  :smth076
no no no no no no.
All kinds of wrong, that song.

Sinking was my second....But Steve...I actually kind of like Six Different Ways!
Not fond at all of Kyoto Song.
I'm alright with Kyoto Song (I know Marika will probably shoot me down for that ;))
But 6DW is not a shining star for the Cure.
I remember Marika posting some NIN footage on youtube not long ago & they used 6DW to clear the arena quickly
Oh well, each to their own.
I also was tempted to vote A Night Like This, but the saxaphone kills it for me. I only like the live versions.
A Night Like This is just too "poppy" for me. Not fond of it at all.
Australian radio station triple J is playing the whole "The head on the door" album right this second. Tune in :)
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/default.htm
it's up to 6 different ways..started at 9pm
thanks for the link kissingcrimson!! :smth023
No probs Scatcat :D ..the only thing is it's finished now. I Hope you managed to catch a couple of songs... It's nice to hear all of them played not only the "radio friendly" 'close to me' and 'in between days' xx :smth020
I'm a minority here.
Since I don't like their radio-friendly "fluffy love songs", I go for The Baby Screams, A Night Like This, or the demo disc for the more tough/dark stuff...I'm not into the happy songs by them. I'd much rather here Robert sing about sadness and hatred than about a "girl of his dreams" and stuff like that...too sickeningly sweet!
A Night Like This is a great song, and really captures what I feel the band is about to me. I like the key tonality, the lagging, drawn-out guitars...
Definately not my favorite album. I found the next year's effort to be much better, with songs like "The Kiss" and "Why Can't I Be You", or the album before this, THE TOP, which created a great visual landscape and musical stylings that were both invigorating and mesmorizing to listen to.
Hmmm..... I like Inbetween Days a lot, but it gets kind of annoying after hearing it a thousand times. I'd say it's my favorite single from 1983-1992
However, my favorite from the album is The Baby Screams, all because of the guitar after the verses and choruses.
A NIGHT LIKE THIS
CLOSE TO ME
SIX DIFFERENT WAYS
BEST THREE!
Hmmm, such a great album so I find this really difficult, but for today I'd have to say -
The Blood (LOVE the guitar),
Push (such a powerful song and mindblowing live),
A Night Like This (I find it a little sinister..not sure why..have been drawn to this song for years)
It's difficult to choose the best one between 'Push' and 'A night like this' for me... so I don't choose !
Definitely Sinking. This is one of the best songs i have ever heard. Truly masterpiece. :smth035
A night like this! I love it. I like Push also but i think most people do because, well.. its just a good song but A night like this is my favourite.
I liked the live version of The baby screams from the Royal Albert Hall but I'm not keen on the album one.
I like all of the songs but this isn't one of my favouite albums.
Kyoto Song for me, lovely keyboardmelody + excellent lyrics as well, like the overall atmosphere of the song. Sinking is close but sounds better live than on the album for me (same with Push). Not too much of a Head On The Door fans myself, possibly due to some songs being overplayed (Inbetween+Night Like This) live. And Screw I still consider to be one of the worst Cure songs ever. Always thought the albumversion of Close To Me is so much better than the single release...
I voted for 'Inbetween Days'.
I agree with everyone else though, 'Push' is a tremendous song, and it's wonderful to see live.
'Screw' is the only weak song on this album, it should have been a B-Side because it ruins the flow a little. Imagine 'Sinking' came after 'A Night Like This'. That would have been better instead of 'Screw' interuppting the vibe. Oh well.
Has anyone else heard the cover of 'Sinking' on myspace. It's by "shallow drowned lose less than we" (yes, that's the name of the singer, from the lyric on the Cure song, 'The Same Deep Water As You', as you all know). Check it out, it's just one girl and a piano. She also covers 'Jumping Someone Else's Train' and 'If Only Tonight We Could Sleep' too!

i have changed my mind about a few songs on this album.. it shifts to and fro. :?
I voted for "sinking".. I am just addicted to this song now. 8)
@tigermilk: I LOVE the cover of 'sinking' by "shallow drowned lose less than we".. the other 2 covers are Magic!! :smth020
Scatcat, I'm glad you liked the covers. She has such a sweet and delicate voice. I hope she does some more soon.
I feel the same about The Cure, my favourite songs change all of the time. At first, I never really liked 'sinking', now I looove it. It's so emotional and I love the music!!
yeah... I find that the obvious ones. 'Push', which is much better performed live IMHO, and 'In Between days'.. I kind of pass by now, I'd much rather Kyoto song , JSET, and Screw, ( includind sinking).. these I never paid much attention to before.. :smth020
Inbetween Days is a classic.
2nd-The Baby Screams
3rd-Push

I have to agree.. but if pushed to choose, my choice is Push.
Now, this is a tough one... I choose "Close to Me", because it's the most perfectly produced of their pop singles - infectious and subtle at the same time. But tracks like "Kyoto Song" or "Sinking" are not inferior by any means, it´s just that they're the sort of slow atmospheric music that The Cure would do even better in the near future, whereas I don' think they have ever made a better happy pop song after 1985...
a real tough decision. I ticked A Night Like This, that could change tomorrow. Yes Push has a lot of power and I hesitated with that track cos it is so amazing, but ANLT has a whole different kind of power - one of the emotional variety. But then with that, I could also argue Sinking. Oh well, A Night Like This it is... :)
Inbetween Days, this and Plainsong were the songs that made me fall in love with the band
PUSH
Powerful, great, I just love it :-D
Has to be Push. It took me seeing it live to aprreciate it, but its definetly powerful.
Voted for Push! Easily best song on album, actually just one of my all time Cure favs ;p (Sinking would be 2nd tho)
Every song except "Screw" is one of my favourites. The perfect album?
I love each song on this album. I think that it is one of the greatest albums of 1985 year ;)

9 out of 10 is as close as it get's to perfection. "Screw" isn't bad either, it's just the one mediocre (but still interesting) song amongst 9 perfect ones, that's got to be there to make the others appear even more perfect. ;)
Oh, time for a list again:
1. Head on the door
2. KMKMKM
3. Disintegration
4. Pornography
5. Seventeen Seconds
6. Bloodflowers
7. Faith
8. Wish
9. Three imaginary boys
10.The Top
11. Wild Mood Swings
12. The Cure

Well, although THOTD is indeed very well conceived and has quite a few songs that I really like, I don´t think it represents well what The Cure are about. It's too poppy and too concerned with pleasing the crowds... There's no edge to it, it's actually the only Cure album in the 80's where The Cure take absolutely no risks!
Many songs have disposable lyrics and the ultra-polished production doesn't always work: a rock song like 'The Baby Screams' loses much of its power, for example.
Then "Push" is somehow recorded in a rawer way, but there's something about it that doesn't work for me (could it just be the lazy lyrics?)...
'Six Different Ways' is no masterpiece either, although it sounds fairly better here than it sounds live.
They shouldve replaced Screw with A Few Hours After This... or A Man Inside My Mouth.

Well, I think that would hardly make it better... those are no great songs, either, at least for me. And even if AFHAT has a melody that kind of gets stuck in your head, the whole thing is produced in a way that would make it an out-of-place track in the album. It's almost only keyboards and voice, and the keyboards have a sound to them that could be described as 'cheap'...
Yes, the final version of "A few hours..." sounds cheap, they really should've worked out the demo version that can be found on the Deluxe version (btw: the best bonus disc of all remasters beside Faith in my oppinion).
I don't understand the general dislike for the song Screw; it's one of my favorites on the album.
I defied convention and voted for "Close To Me" - I just have fond memories of that song.
Although Push is a close second :D

Hey, you're not alone on that one! I voted for "Close To Me" too. Just one of The Cure's best STUDIO pop songs ever.
It was close between Push, Sinking, and A Night Like This. But I have to go with A Night Like this because it was the one that surprised me the most when I first heard A Head On The Door.

One of my favorites as well. :smth023
Push is absolutely one of their best ever. Six Different Ways sounds musically to me like the theme to a children's TV program, which I love. :)
Sinking for that bass line. The Baby Screams, The Blood, so many great ones. I can't pick!

Well, it has a groovy bassline, but that's about all that is interesting in it, in my opinion. There's no real chorus. And the lyrics are really weak.
I find the only mediocre song on the album to be Six Different Ways; it just sounds out of place on the album to me. Also, I just find the lyrics annoying and I don't care for the music.
I really adore A Night Like This. The melody that Robert sings goes so perfectly with the chords that are playing, its one of those songs that makes me want to just stop everything and float away listening to that song. It's quite beautiful and absolutely amazing.

Or 'The Exploding Boy'!
I would have liked it if they had saved some songs from the Japanese Whispers album for The Head On The Door. It would have been great if 'The Upstairs Room', 'The Walk' and 'Lament' were on The Head On The Door.
I'm dreaming about it now... :smth020
For me, deciding between The Blood, Push and Sinking is like asking to choose your favorite child. It's virtually impossible.
Though I must say, if the version of Close to Me on HotD was the 12" Extended version, I would have chosen that.
i know, i know, but it is a song that can get me out of any funk and make me feel effervescent/carefree again. i can listen to this song over and over again without tiring of it.
close to me.
:-D :smth020
Push - hands down.
Sinking and A Night Like This are all-time great songs as well...
A Night Like This- I just love it! :smth020(I also like Push and Inbetween Days a lot) But since this is my favourite album I think all the songs are awsome :-D
I chose Sinking! As this is my favourite Cure album it was a bit hard to do...I also considered A Night Like This, Push, and Kyoto Song. :D
I had to set up a sort of decideble perimeter and really narrow it down between The Blood and A Night Like This. Not that those two songs are really related but they still atract me and I sort of get shot by both sides. Anyway I finally choosed The Blood because of its nervous acoustic staccato guitar. It really gets under your skin and I´ll surrender to its obedient and direct demands.
If my choice didn´t get through clearly it was The Blood!
Close to Me, followed by Six Different Ways, Inbetween Days, Sinking, A Night Like This.
"In Between Days." One of their first songs I ever heard, and the one that turned me into a fan of the band
01 The Blood (bloody (!) flamenco, it burst! one of my biggest favourite)
02 Inbetween Days (perfect pop song with beautiful synth)
03 Screw (an underrated cool dark-funky song, an early Hot Hot Hot!!!)
01 Sinking (make me cry)
02 Push
03 The Blood
