The Cure to play for the first time ever in Russia!

The Cure

There won't be any alcohol suply on festival ground, people!
We are forced to experience first Russian gig sober, which is great to me.

I can imagine me that since I was in Moscow @ New Years Eve in 2010-2011 :)
But I'm sure you will enjoy the show without anything, I went to Pinkpop few weeks ago and the only thing I bought was my ticket, I had no time to spend other money, a few friendly people arround me gave me a black "drop" (candy) and I had a drink coupon from them too ;)
Enjoy the show :rocker

I hope they'll play these songs in Rome or Lisbon.....
By looking at the videos (see the first post on this topic) it looks like many people didn't have any idea about who they had in front. I mean, talking and going for a beer while the best band of the planet is playing Plainsong? WTF :?
you are right, i think it would be the same audience if there were a group playing italian folk songs with farts :smth011
maybe 1000 people there? i don't understand the meaning of playing at festivals like this...only to create a new market in a place hungry for music?
if i were a musician i would be disappointed...
anyway it's a choice they made, i hope they used this show to try songs they will play in roma :smth023

Indeed very few when we compare the 40,000+ persons for the Barcelona gig. Oh well, let's see how will be in Sweden.

WOW :o I'm sure every curefan outthere had a wonderful, perfect place :rocker
Sometimes I'm dreaming to see The Cure in a small venue with no much people around, but this is so strange ? But somehow logic, it's very difficult and expensive to get in Moscow and with the fact they never played there ... Even for The Cure this must be a strange experience ... But what a setlist :smth023

Well, The Cure never played in Peru, Chile, Colombia, and trust me, they would get at least 30,000 - 40,000 people each night in those countries. Looking at the line-up, I have the impression this was just not the right festival for a band like The Cure.

that's a rather small crowd indeed.
one would think russia should be large enough country, for a festival like that to gather more people than that.
(what comes to people traveling to this show from other countries, i hate to say it but i do know that at least in my country quite a many people are boikoting going to russia these days, because of the human rights issues and especially because the recent laws that violate the rights of sexual minorities. i myself have decided not to travel to russia because of that too.)

Nope, you're wrong. Those standing in front of stage (at least I've heard that on the video) shouted "Whooooa", applauded and tried to sing along during,............you're not gonna believe that.......The Same Deep Water As You! It's unbelievable! I was standing aside from stage, about 15 meters from Smith. And I died there during that song (as well as Cold, Lovesong, Trust and If Only Tonight We Could Sleep). But in the middle of the crowd and in front of stage there were many people who had no idea what The Cure is.
And yes, we are disappointed just like all of you that there were less than 10 000 people there.
But I can surely say that Robert was grateful and deeply touched by the crowd and the way they responded to the music. He liked it here, I can tell it for sure.

And some information from the Maxidrom official website: overall 90 000 attended. On the first day - 50 000 (Linkin Park). Second day - 40 000. But it's a lie. A total lie.
This is not 40k:
Now they can't even admit that they failed.
Hello to everyone. And sorry for my poor English.
I think that there were about 20k there (10k in fan-zone, about 7k in usual zone + vip-zone). PR of this festival was so bad that some Russian the Cure fans found out about this gig only one week before it! :?
For the group that has NEVER been popularized in Russia 20k is great, I think. And it was there first visit in Russia! I'm completely sure that after Maxidrom there will be more Cure fans in Russia. Because the Cure is the greatest band in the world! I don't know another group who can play 3h10min! Robert's age is 53 but he is in great form! Not every young group can play such long set, but the Cure can! And Russia knows and loves the Cure!
I believe that it wasn't their first and last show here. There are good organizers who can make a good PR and I think that Robert will agree to come to Russia again.
P.S. I live in the very-very small Russian town which population is less than 10k and there are 20 (which I know) Cure fans and they are all my friends. But only I from our company had opportunity to attend gig. Other guys had very serious exam yesterday and they can't go to Moscow on these days. The only train to our town was in the evening of 12th and it could be very hard to take the exam early morning after rather long way to home... Russia knows the Cure and wait for them again!
Some photos of the crowd:

According to the sources close to the organizers, there were approximately 20,000 tickets sold for the first day with Linkin Park as headliners, and less than 10,000 for the second day with The Cure.
Источники, близкие к организаторам, сообщили примерно о 20 тыс. проданных билетов на день с Linkin Park в хедлайнерах, а на второй — с The Cure — меньше 10 тыс.

Из Псковской области.

Yeah! There were only 10k but this 10k is the most devoted fans who waited for the Cure about 10-20 years! Our fans even not afraid of very hard rain, thunder and lightning which started by the end of the show.
I hope that official video will be.. The show was really great.
We've been waiting for so long! There were people there who were dying to see The Cure since the 80s and never had a chance. All the russians say it was the best concert in their lives! We were singing along so loud, laughing and jumping, bursting with emotions and dancing "like we didn't give a further thought to the things like feet". we were so happy that we couldn't hold back the tears in our eyes, well, the sky was crying too.
and i know for sure that i was surrounded by the people who love the Cure with all of their hearts, 'cause i saw men crying, some of them just sat down on the ground, covering their heads with their hands during "Trust". i saw people with their eyes wide open saying "HE's real! HE really exists!", "It's the best day in my life!" or "Pleeease, never go away!"
and you know what? one of the fans later wrote: "i died there, i was left standing under the rain there, and i don't know who came back home. it's not me anymore"

A 1400-km flight back home and three days after the show and still I can't find myself... Smith mentioned that everything is almost arranged for his arrival next spring, and I'm going to be there, but still, the first time is not gonna happen again. Most of us stood there, knowing that it was the first time The Cure came to Russia and, probably, the last. And the response of the fans was beyond description.
Curious fact: many people are now going to celebrate the 11th of June each year. It was a truly historical event.
Quote from: s.ivanov on June 14, 2012, 20:05:42
Smith mentioned that everything is almost arranged for his arrival next spring
Well, Bob has said so many times that he would go back to South America (and the band didn't come back since 1996) so I wouldn't trust him on this  But yes, he has mentioned that: http://rollingstone.ru/articles/music/article/11824.html (http://rollingstone.ru/articles/music/article/11824.html)
Anyway, if there's a new album by the end of the year, then there could be a World Tour next year, and that could include Russia among other countries.
Many people have mentioned that Smith doesn't usually bow in the end of each show, but here it's clearly seen that he's all thankful (including "Spasibo" in Russian) and minute 3:03 shows that he's bowing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq67TV0SHtU&feature=player_detailpage#t=168s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq67TV0SHtU&feature=player_detailpage#t=168s)
I think that's quite an evidence of his attitude to the country he never visited before.
And there's difference between "See you soon" and "Everything's almost arranged for our arrival, which will be next spring". At least, I would like to believe that his words are true.
And one more story: a disabled person of the 1st degree who hadn't left his hometown for 12 previous years went to Moscow, with the help of relatives and friends, to make the dream come true. Quite inspiring. I hope Robert Smith would someday read these words and realize what his music really means to many people in Russia.

Sorry for my English. Google Translate helped me, thanks.
I'm from Russia, Moscow. I listen to since 1989. First heard Seventing Seconds and Head on the Door. And I am very, very, very, very, very, very happy with what I saw and heard them live. You probably do not even imagine what it means to visit The Cure to our country. This - not transferable. To understand what it means for us in Russia, The Cure, here's an example:
Yevgeny Kudryavtsev
I just got back home! Siberia ... The Cure ... how far the concept of ... I combined them!))
Robert, you're great! I am happy that I went to this festival!
A man came to Moscow from Siberia! To understand this, go to Google Maps and see the distance.
We loved The Cure, The Cure We love, We love The Cure.
Peace to you and your home. The Cure fan - Unite
Thank you all. The Cure - forever. Thank The Cure.
It's really cool to read all of your enthusiastic posts about the Moscow gig :smth023. I can imagine that for a lot of curefans out there it was their first live The Cure concert and judging from the posts above Smith must have appreciated the atmosphere you created even if the crowd was not that big in numbers.
Let's hope that the talk about next Russian concert in the spring also means - the new World Tour that we're all waiting for :)
