I wonder sometimes if it itches and drives him crazy; I can't stand to go one day without washing my hair!

My hairdresser says it's bad for your hair to wash it everyday.  You wash out the natural oils that way.  Depending on your hair once every other day or oven once a week should be enough.   :smth001

Hmm...well, I'd love to be able to wash less but I work out a lot and swim a lot--if I didn't wash my hair daily I'd be pretty nasty!
Robert probably does not swim much though. ;)

I shaved off all my hair 15 years ago, and now shave my head bald every other day, much easier to look after :)

The tricky part, however, is getting on the guest-list / backstage.

Oh, and getting your tomahawk past security. Refer to the "tips for bootlegging a concert" thread for ideas as to hiding your gear.

Well, it was either that, or some radio contest in the Boston area, circa 2000, if memory serves. I guess they wanted people to bring in their Cure collections. The fanatic with the largest collection won a lock of Robert's hair, among other things.

So that would be another way to get some Robert hair. But I know what you mean...

Looking back, I should have dropped a few grand, built up a really nice collection, and cleaned house in the contest. After which, hold onto the hair until we stop being such sissies about cloning humans, and voila! clone my own Robert.

I mean, Robert doesn't have any children, so this Smith-child would be pretty rare, and could probably fetch me some nice, uncirculated masters! The ultimate Cure collectible!

Heheheh. I have a pen Robert chewed on and have been known to tell people that I'm saving it to clone him someday (hey, there could be DNA on it).
But hair would probably be better.

Do you really the some of the older albums (like Pornography) could have been made the way they were without drugs in the mix?

I've heard people joke that Robert needs to start doing drugs again to bring back that "old magic". Well, there's probably some truth to that.

Now, I'm not advocating drug use here, just making a point.

I wasn't saying he was bad nowadays, I just said teach him at an early age to make sure he gets into music...otherwise your Robert Smith clone will end up on a football team all because you didn't steer him towards music!!!

Of course I am kidding! And drugs or no drugs, he is Robert so even when he makes a mistake he's still cool!

I was watching "The Drug Years" on VH-1 not too long ago, and there was a still shot of (I think it was) John McVie from Fleetwood Mac wearing a shirt reading "No Snow, No Show".

Is it too late to change the Curefans.com shirts again?   ;)

Anyhow, I do agree that the drug presence in Pornography is pretty clear (or how about the Stooges' "Funhouse", recorded mainly while full of acid)...

...but with a lot of the records that people attribute to prodigious drug use, I wonder if the real reason is that they were early in an artist's career, when they were a) full of ideas and energy, and b) didn't know better / hadn't yet run into complications with the stuff, and had the funding to buy mountains of it.

Although, this is probably the stuff of an entirely different thread.

Back to Robert's hair...

I shouted back, "I'm not a f*cking clown! I'm Robert f*cking Smith!"

God, people really need to open up to better things than Dave Matthews and Jimmy Buffet around my area. It's a shame people like I get laughed at for liking good music while all the others stay "safe" with their picture-perfect, mass-marketed crap bands.

you're right, it does. but all you old geezers here, just think of the size of the ozone hole that we all caused in the 80s, we who happily just kept spraying away all that hairspray... (that was in the time before the ozone-free hairsprays, kids).
sometimes it makes me feel guilty. i feel like we should apologize the polar bears and penguins, really. :?

anyway, my brother seems to have a kind of hair that would be perfect for making it look like robert's. his hair was always thick and already somewhat "upwards oriented" by nature, whereas mine was completely on the contrary: not at all thin but something that seemed to be pretty damn hard to get up and stay there, no matter how much ozone layer was being destroyed.
i confess i used to envy my brother quite a bit because of this, a long long time ago. especially since he always kept his hair short and tidy - i thought he was really letting a great opportunity to pass there, what a fool!
;)

Here are my HALLOWEEN choices so far:

Robert Smith
Jason Voorhees (hockey mask killer...you know?)

I went as Smitty last year but I think I should have picked a more familiar look to obtain than his more obscure FAITH era style.

I've got to find some giant shoes, I already have big puffy socks, I need some kind of sweater, and I need to start using that gravity-defying hair-thickening shampoo.

I already figured out how to tease hair, but my hair is thin as Kate Moss and it will not stand up for long. Shame, shame. Robert, why can't I be you? ;)

It's either Rob or Bette Page, this year.

Halloween's big in USA, A g'friend and i used to be the only ones in sight -dressing up and door knocking in Australia,
was great when we were 14-15yrs old.- people weren't prepared so they used to give us money, sweet cash  :smth023

I think Robert washes his hair everyday- or most because it never has that greezzy shimmer, shine to it, always looks
clean,
But god i love 'Live in Orange' when he takes off that wig, and rubs his head, and looked so good short too, yum cha  :P

Unfortunately at my age of 15, dressing up is socially awkward. Which is why HALLOWEEN is a great outing to let my inner psycho out and be whatever I want!

halloween seems to be very different here than over there. we have none of all this american "carnival halloween" (and no offense to americans but i'd personally say i'm very happy that we don't). halloween is either a day you don't really notice much at all (because nothing spectacular happens), or it's like it used to be, it used to be literally 'day of the dead'. this meant it was a very quiet, silent, literally hallow day. you didn't go out much but everyone kept to themselves. and you definitely didn't arrange any carnival/party stuff but on the contrary, kept quiet. then when the evening was approaching, you visited the graves of your family members and brougth a candle there. this tradition is still very much alive i think. if you go to a sematery on halloween everning it's pretty beautiful sight, they are full of candles.
i think the way to "celebrate" halloween as one of the most quiet and one of the holies of all days is a very long tradition. it actually goes all the way back to the pagan times, before christianity. the day of the dead at the end of october was one of the most important days in the pagan calendar. and even centuries of christianity couldn't really wipe away some of its power, i guess. they've tried to import the  "americanized halloween" here for years but it doesn't really root. and i think it's good because not everyone needs to have things the same way. i  suppose there's still some of that stubborn pagan mind alive here... because people in general refuse to accept this "new imported halloween" and want to stick to their old habits.

anyway, that's why i really can't relate to any of this american halloween stuff at all, it's just so totally opposite to what the day originally was supposed to stand for.

(ps. i'm considering splitting this topic into two, hair and halloween?)

I think of it like x-mas, another excuse for the 'junk food makers' to fill the shops with cute coloured packages, to make kids sick and fat.
Just like easter = chocolate, now days. Iam not the religious type, but its just sickening all the advertising when you go into a supermarket
and see the kids screaming for the colourful cute package - of fat and sugar...   :smth078

and on-topic ~ Love Robert and his hair- always looks clean to me.  and god i look !!

You do know Robert wore a dress, to school, when he was around your age. Got beat up for it though.
I agree. It's a night to let yourself go. To be whoevver you want and to be around others who do the same.

I don't like the explotation of the holiday, myself.  It's ashame, it has gotten that way. It's the same with Easter and Christmas.
I love  how your country celebrates the holiday. Very thoughtful and meaningful.
As like the Wicca celebrate Samhain. Which is on October 31st, also. It is  a celebration of death and of the dead, and it often involves paying respect to ancestors, family members, elders of the faith, friends, pets and other loved ones who have died.

HALLOWEEN was never about the candy for me...then again I have an eating disorder...

I hate how kids, all they care about is the candy. Here's what I have to say:

"KIDS! CHERISH your youth and celebrate the costumed-fun you can have! Because when you become a teenager, all that is washed down the drain! Candy never goes away, but the ability to dress up and run around like fools DOES!"

Usually when I give that speech, the kids are on the other side of the block before I finish... :P

Yeh, hate what Barbies represent,

I bought one of those goth dolls, cant remember what they are called, but they have blood down their face, or vampire teeth, and they come in a box that is the shape of a coffin,
cant remember what they are called, ...? made in USA., 'death dolls' ? ....one had an eye ball hanging out, ~ I got mine in its coffin still (didnt wanna take it out of box), but cant find it.....
at the moment, My friend couldnt believe i wanted to buy it.

I would actually love to pre-buy my coffin, and keep it as a coffee table- But iam not really goth- Just find the inevidible death comforting, Nothing lasts forever........
Like they say in 'Fight Club' even the mona lisa is falling apart.....

sorry off topic^

But god i do love Roberts hair and noticed on Cure Freaks pic of Robert, that he has a thick white thing (tied at the side) around his hair, to keep it up- before a show is what i was thinking :rocker

I see those things in HOT TOPIC-esque stores all the time!
Always wanted to get one, but I dunno...Perhaps a male teenager buying a doll looks a bit strange...

I'm a bit confused as to why they never made a Robert Smith doll...I think that would be wicked awesome...

Now that I think of it, I want a Robert, Simon and Lol doll set, complete with whine bottles and a passed-out Matthieu Hartley! :smth030

That would be so cool! It could also come with drumstick-launching action for Robert, so we can all re-enact the ill-fated fight between Robert and Simon which leaded to Simon's departure from the band in 1982! Accessory: Shocked-looking Gary Biddles!!!

But seriously, I'd kill for a set of action figures of the band when they were a trio...I could make the coolest animated stop-motion videos with them... ;)

RE: Babi=pig   Apparently if Barbie was a real person, with the same size to scale - She wouldnt be able to breath- chest too small, titts too big,  waist too small,
And thats what i hate about Barbie-  makes girls feel bad about their bodies, So rare that a girl or woman to be happy/content with her body- but when they are it makes them glow with beauty from the inside.  :D wish i felt like that at the moment.
  Babi = PIG !!!!!  :smth023
But i still want to dress up some small dolls, maybe i get out some my mum made, and play with them, Just so pretty. The ones mum made are much nicer and more beautiful, and original too  :smth059  one of an angel, just so gorgeous.
I treasure these things my mum made.

OR hehehehe I can trample on a barbi doll and pull her hair and make her smell my feet

I was just talking about Barbie recently, and I thought it would be cool if they made a fuller-fiure Barbie...something like Marylin Monroe...that'd be cool. I always thought Barbies gave girl's unhealthy perceptions of beauty, ones that are unhealthy and nearly impossible to obtain...

Here's the link to the psycho abusing the Robert doll:

I need a shower, lot's of showers...it's just too weird...

anyway, my brother seems to have a kind of hair that would be perfect for making it look like robert's. his hair was always thick and already somewhat "upwards oriented" by nature, whereas mine was completely on the contrary: not at all thin but something that seemed to be pretty damn hard to get up and stay there, no matter how much ozone layer was being destroyed.
i confess i used to envy my brother quite a bit because of this, a long long time ago. especially since he always kept his hair short and tidy - i thought he was really letting a great opportunity to pass there, what a fool!
;)

Marika, your hair sounds similar to that of mine.  I have a hell of a time getting it to stand up, too.  Well, not that I really try, but have in the past.  Now that I've grown it out (think Robert during the summer of 2002), the desire to imitate that famous birds nest of a hairdo has past.

Ohh ontopic ~ I think Roberts hair is like a golf green- looking great, but kept on the verge of death at all times. Being teased and styled, But if too long flops, Too short wont stay up - A fine balance indeed !!

my solution was to cut it short, actually. as long as i had a long hair it just didn't stand up whatever i tried. for the longest time i actually did have a really long hair - very uncure-ish but as i was pissed not to have a proper kind of hair anyway i sort of went to the other extreme then, just as a kind of revenge or something haha.
anyway, for the past year or so i've had a pretty short hair, also got it coloured. after years something else, i wanted to go bit back to the old skiped up hair idea and so the only solution was to just cut it somewhat short. that way (and with the help of some serious chemicals/hair wax products ;)) i can actually make it to maintain some sort of shape. i could never manage the bird-nest style but i wouldn't even want that anymore - all i want is some spikes! i guess i do look a bit too freakish because i admit that i might be past the age when you can have a spiked up fire-red hair at work but hey i don't really care, to be honest.

im still quite mistified as to how he actually does keep his hair like that. coz ive tried hair spray, wax and other things and it NEVER turns out exactally like his. my hair is rather short as i had it all shaved off about 5 months ago, but the only way i can get it to look slightly like Roberts is to use a tonne of hair spray as soon as i get out of the shower (when its all spiked up by itself) and let it dry like that... then when its dry, add a massive amount of spray (and i keep adding spray throughout the day)so bits of it get hard, and form their own spikey bits. i think maybe when my hair is slightly longer this might be easier.... but i still am in awe of his 40cm wide hair!! :D its AMAZING!! maybe he puts some kind of wax and then spray!? or maybe he is the only one with such power to make his hair like this... :smth023
sorry if this was already answered before!

I think it will be an ongoing mystery- TopSecret sort of thing. His hair dressers are sworn to uphold the secret ~ and his hair

I just wanna chop all mine off, tired of long hair too, Like Japanesebaby said earlier, Go the chop chop., that would be such a relief and nice feeling in the shower,

Although i had it really short once, 1cm short- was an accident- i was very timid, and i think the hair dresser sold my hair- as it was natural, long and blonde.  I was so shocked and shattered.
But anyway it was the 80's and i was in college, so everyone thought i was immediately cool, and i wasnt used to the attention, or like it, or give a pooh, Anyway people must have thought it was full on., as it was.

And old ladies used to ask me to do things for them and then say "thank you young boy", Yeh great looked like a boy !!!  but i liked it once it got to the 5-8cm stage.  :D

But some rich **** is wearing my hair as a wig somewhere out there, and if i ever find her, I will take it back and cut hers off for fun

Hi Far Far,
Yeh mine is really really long, But last time it so long i would sit on it.
This time it is below boobi length or more - Hard to describe, But i just wanna cut it short, but i dont want to look like a lesbian- not that anything wrong with that ( I have lesbian friends)- I just want to look original, so its difficult- maybe just below shoulders, but i would really like to have it 5 - 10 cm short.
God loved Roberts hair in Live in Orange- Short, when he runs his finger through his hair, after throwing off the wig, GREAT feeling, it looks.  :D

I want my hair to be longer, which wouldn't help me to achieve a Robert-esque hairstyle, but frankly, I don't think it would suit me if I did it exactly the same way that he did it. I only attempt it occasionally when I want to look my most ghoulish, and it doesn't work very well with a fringe. I look more like Bettie Page than Robert Smith most days of the week! :smth046

The trick is... start off with ringlet curls, like I, then don't wash for a week(better for curly hair).. then day before u do it, just wet and use conditioner ( shampoo hakes it flyaway).. then use 3 different moisturising, heavy products, each applied on top of each other.. then using large metal roundbrush, s-t-r-e-c-h from roots to the ends, using high heat. then spray with strong hairspray, then, using more spray NO WAX!!, iron section by section, then using MORE spray, tip head upside down and tickle the roots, leave to dry .. then SPRAY again... whew!! Any more questions??

No wonder he's hair is damage now.
Not sure if I want to do his now. I think I will go as Bettie this Halloween.  May do my hair like Simon's in CV's sig, for the concert. I love his hair there.

hahahah  :D :-D..... gee... this sounds like highly dangerous business! i never knew Robert lived so much on the edge!
that would really really suck if you had been working for months on perfecting your RS hair... putting on the right amount of spray, making friends with the crawly things nesting in there etc......  then you just innocently wandered over to a bonfire for some reason and your hair just exploded!! it would be so devistating!!! and yet the image is disturbingly funny...

u could ALSO use insect repellent, but this won't stop the little birdies.. sorry!!??  and also leads to increased flammability..

Thats funny reminds me of a movie, A girl having a shower- think it was Goldie Hawn (if i spelt her name right) and a cockroach drops in her hair,
and she's screaming trying to get it out, the worse she tries, legs breaking and cockroach panic's, going further into hair, AHHH what a night mare,
But yuki funny to watch. If she was my friend i wouldnt be able to do anything but put her hair on the table and crunch it in with a hammer hehehehehhe
screaming all the way

If I woke up and I had this hair, all my problems would be solved! (Honestly, this is the kind of hair I wish I had, I hate straight hair or short hair, the bigger the better for me!)

That sounds complicated! Jeez! How do you work with very thin, blow-in-the wind hair? Because no matter what I put in my hair, the wind screws it up and my hair flops around like crazy, sometimes you can even see my scalp...it's embarassing. I want my whole head covered except my face, and black. No more dirty blond.

Anyway, enough about me. Thanks for the tip!

Thats what i was thinking too, seems more-so teased (Roberts hair) upside down, and all the other details.  But not sure about the ironing, I used to do that, and makes it flat as a tak= but then again, that would take away the ringlets,
Shi- it just teased mostly underneath.
The underneath is cut shorter than the top, and wallah- yes- style upside down (tease and spray) and then pick out sections to fall down over the top of the teases.
ahha all makes sense to me.

Still think it can be done a few different ways- six to be exact, But it is still top secret, wink wink nudge nudge....  :?

I hated people looking at me in school, at my eyes especially, Or actually i hated my nose... dont now.. But anyway i did a  'Nikki Six'  hair-do at the time, with a long fringe that went below my eyes- Only lasted a day, because i couldnt see for starters, and made me feel more uncomfortable, But i have photos and now i think i was beautiful, but at the time i felt ugly.
I wonder if when iam 80 yrs old i will look at the pictures i have now, and think iam beautiful, but at the moment i never do feel it- Well sometimes, and thats an inside thing, not outside, and when i feel that way I glow. When i dont it is like iam invisible, And thats ok, some days i like to be invisible.

I'm tired of everyone criticising his hair!!!

The general public has no toleration for awesome, originality in style I guess...

Walking around with their boring buzzcuts (Ugh) and their sports jerseys...

I just had to be born in '92! My parents couldn't have just done it when they got married, they had to wait an extra six years or so...

Please excuse me for resurrecting a topic more than 10 years old, but... :winking_tongue

From page 1 of this illustrious topic:

Quote from: iwannashagsimon on July 30, 2007, 12:12:52
Quote from: Plainsong on July 29, 2007, 20:31:54Robert probably does not swim much though. ;)
Now there's another question!  Can he swim at all?

I was thinking that when you wear your hair like this, it's actually very aerated, and if there was some way of continuing to trap that air when the hair gets wet, you'd have an excellent flotation aid, at the very crucial end of the body which must be kept above water to facilitate effective continued breathing through lungs (as opposed to gills).

Standard hairstyling products tend to be water-soluble - if they weren't you couldn't wash them out of your hair, and then your hairstyle would get sad really quickly, plus birds might start thinking about setting up nests etc.  (You use shampoo to de-grease your hair, and to remove any greasy styling products like Brylcreem, which aren't particularly relevant to this discussion because they don't allow you to "aerate" your hair.)

However, if you used some kind of water-insoluble product (Superglue? Expandafoam?) to style your hair, you might be able to trap some of the air in the hairstyle even when it gets wet.  Superglue wouldn't be particularly effective at trapping the air though (since it would coat individual hairs or at the most strands of hair and actually tend to displace air pockets), but the Expandafoam (space-filling builder's foam) option automatically traps air in the product itself, and maybe if they made a black-colour option, instead of orange or yellow...

In case you are wondering, standard Expandafoam applied to hair looks like this:

This woman mistook Expandafoam for hair mousse and presented to an emergency department for help (but you really just need old-fashioned sheep shears to get rid of this style once you are done with it, you don't have to bother trained medical professionals).

You can see the potential this product has for alternative hair styling, if it is the right colour - and you can certainly see its splendid potential as a flotation device.

If that's too drastic an option - eternally vacillating between aerated hair and a shorn head - and one still wanted one's hair to double as an inbuilt flotation device, then one could simply stick with water-soluble styling products, and work on producing a water-impermeable barrier across the hair-atmosphere boundary.  It would have to be airtight, and non-compressible or nearly so.

By the way, I've seen an interview where Robert Smith claimed he can swim, and has also claimed everyone can swim, offering the practical experiment of throwing people in - it seems the people he threw in always managed to swim even if they previously claimed they couldn't.  There's several reasons this wasn't good science:

1.  The sample size was probably too small to be particularly statistically significant (n=100 is about right for a preliminary study; I doubt he even got that far, somebody would have thumped him etc).

2.  The sample was clearly not representative of the general population - not randomly selected etc, e.g. he clearly didn't throw in any newborns or toddlers, or elderly and infirm people (which means he was to a degree engineering the results by deliberately using an unrepresentative sample - we call this data fudging).

3.  A properly designed experiment on this topic would have difficulty getting past an ethics committee.

Yours in Science

I remember an interview (ca. 1995?), in which Robert says his hair had turned into "natural dreadlocks" at that point, which was a problem when he went swimming or scuba diving...
(This is from memory, but I'll try and find it, if I still have that mag. At least it seems to answer the question whether he can swim.)

Quote from: strange_day on August 17, 2007, 04:50:48He was never on drugs, its all that hairspray hes passed through his nostrils.... thats why he was high as a kite years ago, look how big the hair was back then... :-D

See it all makes sense  ;)

:-D So THAT's how it's done!? I've go to start sniffing hairspray if I want that Robert hairstyle!

I'm sure that would do interesting things to one's nostril hair.  :angel

And about the other matter, hold your breath when using hairspray and do not breathe again until you've left the room and are in unpolluted air (apologies to those of you living near chimeys and freeways).  That should give you 60-90 seconds before you get really short on oxygen.  Breathing in a mix of plastics and solvents really isn't great for your lungs...

And since we keep bees, we just want to warn people that bees dislike hairspray and often get aggressive towards persons who smell of it.  They may attack you, and go for your face or scalp.  If you get stung on the top of your scalp, allergic or not, the next day you're going to look like you've been hit in the face with a cricket bat (...and I know this how?  :winking_tongue).  Be very careful especially if you're within 10 metres of a hive - bees get very protective in that zone, and will react strongly to hairspray and other strong-smelling toiletries.

Sounds dubious to me... but hang on a minute, at the bottom of the forum I find:

QuoteOnline: 1,352 Guests, 3 Users (0 Buddies)  - Most Online Today: 1,363

Well I guess that explains the numbers. 3 users out of over 1,000 who are online. That's the curse of the internet: lots of readers, not many "active" users.

Good news: I found the mag (had it around since I quoted from it last year already)!

Here's a quote from the article (Q magazine September 1995) about his hair:

It's not dirty, but it has the consistency of swarf. That combing-it-out option isn't a goer.
"It's turned into natural dreads now," he shrugs. "Even when I swim, or go scuba diving, as I did when we played Greece recently, I can't comb it back. There's nothing anybody can do."

Urgh.  I learnt a new word:  Swarf.  :1f636:

Our Irish Long-Hair Donkey gets matted hair like that, and then there's only one thing for it:  Sheep shears.  About every two years... and she's due again.  If anyone would like some lumpy donkey hair for craft or other purposes, let me know...

I always felt she should audition for The Cure.  She's got the hair.  Her signature sound is very like a rusty water pump, which could make an interesting organic addition to the soundscape.  :angel

But she tells me she already has a group, thank you very much.

This thread just keeps on giving!  :angel

Quote from: rjl on August 15, 2007, 04:42:27Well, it was either that, or some radio contest in the Boston area, circa 2000, if memory serves.

Nice puns and humour!  :)

And baaaaaad science.  :P

1. To clone a person, you need a viable nucleus and a viable enucleated donor egg.  Hair is an acellular extruded strand of keratin - the only remote way you could clone someone from hair is if you ripped it out of their scalp and got hold of a bit of hair follicle with live cells that way.  (And just as added bonus science, getting DNA is not the same as getting a viable nucleus.)

2. When you clone any animal, you don't get the same animal, you get a near-identical twin:  Less identical than a natural identical twin, unless you can get the donor egg from the mother of the individual you are trying to clone.  If you can't do that (and in this case you really can't), the mitochondria in the cells will be from the female donor.  Mitochondria, in case you're wondering, are organelles responsible for aerobic respiration, which were most probably ancestrally derived from bacteria that formed an intracellular symbiosis with eukaryotic (nucleated, more complex than bacteria) cells, a loooooong time ago.  Mitochondria retain much of their own DNA.

3. A person isn't just their nuclear DNA, mitochondria etc, a person is also the sum of all their experiences, and how they processed those experiences.  Even identical twins raised in the same environment tend to have significant differences in personality, tastes etc (and minor physical differences, because the environment affects the way the body develops etc).  A near-identical twin raised in a completely different environment, 60 years later, will be a totally different person.  You can try to feed your RS clone Camus in his teenage years, but he may well rebel against the imposition (because a person needs to be who they are, not who others want them to be).

It's my opinion that the beauty of the world is in diversity, not sameness - and in the uniqueness and non-reproducibility of a life, or a person.

Big thumbs-up for the correct spelling of Voila!  :cool :smth023   In recent years in Australia, the spelling is increasingly eroding to Viola!  - not just online, but in allegedly edited, hard-copy magazines...  :1f635:   And even the ABC these days no longer seems to have anyone who knows that the singular of bacteria is bacterium.  Saying "a bacteria" is like saying "a kittens"... and don't get me started on phenomenon/phenomena - there's even an incorrectly constructed song about that...  :1f62d:

Or breath versus breathe...

Quote from: undefinedI mean, Robert doesn't have any children, so this Smith-child would be pretty rare, and could probably fetch me some nice, uncirculated masters! The ultimate Cure collectible!

Yeah, nobody would think a decades-younger near-identical twin would be anything other than a dead ringer for its nuclear-DNA parent! :winking_tongue

Other than that, nice plan!  :yum:

My husband suggests that if you wanted to make a true clone, you would need to invent a 3D quantum photocopier.

But even then, you'd have to deal with the same philosophical question posed by the old "Beam me up, Scotty" scenario:  Once beamed up, are you really the same person anymore?

My husband also suggests that if your experiment was successful and you ended up with two identical Robert Smiths, there's this problem:  They'd both have pretty strong ideas on what the next album should sound like, and as their lived experiences started to diverge, so would those ideas - this scenario could really, really delay that next album (and/or result in mutual destruction of the two Robert Smiths  :winking_tongue).

Of course, we get it that you don't want a completely duplicated Robert Smith - you want a phenotypically highly similar serf who can go nick uncirculated masters!  (Who, sadly, wouldn't know the GPS location of said uncirculated masters - for that you need the true duplicate - and he wouldn't give them to you, in all probability, bwahahahaha.)  We concocted this because we loooove to stir!  Even over a decade later!  ;)

A gasp? Or hyperventilation? Or tousle one's hair in desperation (so one looks like RS)?

I dunno, @Ulrich!  Have you read this thread?  Bits of it were funny, but I just finished skimming through the rest and feel a bit queasy...

Here's a random sample of something instructive:

Quote from: Carnage Visor on September 24, 2007, 22:44:59I was just talking about Barbie recently, and I thought it would be cool if they made a fuller-fiure Barbie...something like Marylin Monroe...that'd be cool. I always thought Barbies gave girl's unhealthy perceptions of beauty, ones that are unhealthy and nearly impossible to obtain...

Here's the link to the psycho abusing the Robert doll:  [snip]

He makes me feel sick inside...he's obviously VERY sick, and all his favorited videos involve men's feet...men licking feet, smelly feet...I don't get it.

I need a shower, lot's of showers...it's just too weird...

People with strange fetishes tend to congregate on the internet.

Very true, I think it's mostly because they know, somewhere out there, this is another person like them.

Scary shit.

Oh the irony.  :angel

PS: Yeah, there does seem to be a bit of gasping and hyperventilating going on in these pages, @Ulrich.  One could end up tousling one's hair in desperation - or pulling it out (nose hairs are particularly effective).  Or one could practice being Zen...  :winking_tongue

Of course, if you're really Zen, you won't have any hair to tousle or pull out anyway...

Quote from: SueC on March 05, 2021, 15:59:42@Ulrich, why is it that 100 people are looking at this topic and nobody wants to talk to us?
that's because discussions from this forum are automatically posted on Twitter, and people there are more voyeurs and with a few exceptions engage in meaningful discussions :( They're too lazy to open an account here and reply here.

Dear @dsanchez, have you ever heard the saying, "Twitter is for Twits"?  :angel  :winking_tongue

Hooray to you for hosting a forum, and persisting with it in the age of the soundbite!  :smth023  :smth023

PS:  If you're ever depressed, read The Twits by Roald Dahl.
