Note: this is a fictional/fantasy/alternative lineup for the '90s/2000s

So, I've been listening to a lot of WMS-era tapes lately, and it got me thinking; who's to say The Cure wouldn't be great as a six piece (the Smith/Gallup/Bamonte/O'Donnell/Cooper lineup with Thompson added in.)
Roger could play most of the keyboards, freeing up Bamonte/Thompson/Smith to have the same roles on Guitar/Bass VI that they did on the Wish tour.

Also, Jason Cooper has really grown on me lately, so I'm letting him stay :).

They could do a mix of Wish stuff and WMS.

Thoughts? And please share your fantasy lineup if you have one (one that's never existed)
But it's much too late you say
For doing this now
We should have done it then
Well it just goes to show
How wrong you can be
And how you really should know
That it's never too late
To get up and go

But that existed! It's the exact line-up I saw back in 1992.

Yeah the object was a combination of members that's never existed ;). It seems like that's what Robert does when assembling a lineup

I'm not ignoring this thread, I just have a complete lack of fantasy in that direction! :)

My husband did have a related fantasy. He reckons all past members of The Cure not currently in it ought to get together to form a band called Prevention... ;)

That wouldn't be a band, that'd be a whole football team!

Mmmmhh.  Sort of like senior citizens' football?  (Hiding under chair.  Making excuse that I am attempting to find my reading glasses.  And perhaps my walking stick.  Where's my walking stick?)

I don't think Roger and Porl (Pearl) would ever want to be in the same line-up again.  After Roger left in 1990, they never played together again except for a song or two in 1995 (Glastonbury).  Whenever Porl left, Roger came back and whenever Roger left, Porl came back.  Roger didn't have anything nice to say about Porl in his essay on 'Disintegration'; I think they're both still affected by the bad blood created during and after the 'Prayer Tour'.

sorry, my bad. My other combination would be just:

Robert, Simon, Boris, Porl (with Porl duing keyboards in some songs)
2023.11.22 Lima
2023.11.27 Montevideo

ooh so a bit like 4 Tour but with Boris and some keyboards! I like it! :)

Be that as it may, the topic is "fantasy line-up", which is why any combination can be named, eh?  :-D

Btw, we'd discussed your theory before and Roger himself tells a different story:

My thoughts go in the same direction.
Of course it has to run under a different name. But assuming Lol would have a free hand (as an organizer), it would be possible in this decade, as long as nobody is seriously ill or dies. But when someone says "We're going to make it big," I say: Better leave it. Don't break it just to get capital out.

Just so you don't misunderstand my husband, @MeltingMan, he actually has no interest in listening to that particular line-up, he just enjoyed the word-play!  :)

In English there is a saying that "prevention is better than a cure."  ;)

...we both have this habit of often being happy with what is, rather than yearning for what isn't... and as such, are perfectly happy with the current Cure line-up, as was the case with past Cure line-ups.  :cool
