The name's Michaela, 16 year old girl who's currently residing in the East coast!

I'm quite glad to have stumbled upon this forum, as I'm in love with The Cure, and have always hoped to talk with other fans!

Some of my favorite albums, as you can see in my profile, include Pornography, Disintegration, and Faith. Favorite songs include Charlotte Sometimes, Primary, A Forest, and Just Like Heaven (among many others!)

Besides that, I'm also in love with movies, blogging, photography, sleeping and gaming. I'm rather shy, but feel free to talk to me, as I'd love to get to know some of you guys. See ya around <3

Hello, Michaela, welcome to curefans!

Some great choices you have there for favourite albums (not that your favourite songs aren't very good, either)!

As for wanting to talk to other Cure fans, I think you have the right attitude, but I'm afraid you'll soon find out that people around here don't seem much interested in talking about The Cure... or anything else, for that matter. Yet it is supposed to be the Cure forum on the net with the most registered people, with the most logged in people at any single moment and also with the larger number of guests watching... It's just that people hardly post at all.

lol what a way to discourage her :)

it's difficult to compete against Facebook. Just to give an example, when I opened a topic here to discuss about the Guardian's review about the RAH shows, some friends (who are also members of this forum) have been discussing this (a lot) on Facebook, when they could have instead discussed that topic here (and this would have helped to enrich the discussion, because this forum, unlike private FB chats, can be found by the search engines). The fact is that Facebook is driving away all discussions that before were almost exclusive of forums.

i think part of it as well is that people is using mobile phones a lot to connect, and this forum is not enough friendly for that yet. will need to fix that ;)

welcome to curefans.com! we hope you like it here. it's always nice to see so young people into The Cure (thought I was as well about your age when I discovered them - back in 1992!)

there's a topic "curefans under 16". although you're not under 16, maybe you will be interested to check it out. you may also be interested in the "albums and songs" board. enjoy!  :smth023

Hello again, Michaela.

It wasn't really my intention to discourage you... It's just that since no one was bothering to reply to you I was starting to feel kind of bad and so I had to say something. By the way, as you can see, more than 24 hours have passed and still nobody has been able to spare a few seconds of their oh so 'precious' time and welcome you here, except for me and dsanchez...

By the way, I too got into the Cure when I was more or less you age - 15 years old, to be more precise. It was back in 1986, when the 'Standing on a Beach'/'Staring at the Sea' compilation was released. Which makes me a little older that dsanchez and quite much older than you. But still I don't feel old at all. And I know I am much younger than Robert Smith, for instance!  :-D

Ah yes, the much maligned Facebook (and deservedly so, IMO). I read that article and I suppose I have to agree with most of what its author says... Even if I feel he is still being a bit too optimistic. I mean, when he says "What long term value are those Facebook likes and comments. Zero! In five or ten years time will people be reading them? No." Five or ten years!? After just a few days nobody will remember or care about what has been written on Facebook...

Ulrich

First of all: Welcome to Michaela! You will find other fans to chat about The Cure here.

Yeah, that's what I dislike too. In a forum, you'll be able to find and re-read old topics. On FB you don't.

What I do like about FB is the immediacy: someone will like your comment or pics or whatever. But I do not "discuss" much there for above reasons.

Wow I didn't even know this is supposedly the "biggest" Cure forum.
I can't see people "not much interested" or "hardly post at all". (If so, how did you manage to post 81 times within a few weeks?)  :?
If you need more reaction, maybe make your posts more interesting or more controversial or aggressive (ask some forum "trolls" for advice on that)!  ;)

Btw, it's always been like this that forums have many "guests" just reading and not posting.

Well, I've searched the net and found a few other Cure forums and they all have lower numbers than Curefans, so...

Well, I'm an exception, that's all.

But I thought they were interesting enough...  :smth017  As for being 'controversial', they will (potentially) be when they have to be, not before. But 'aggressive'? No, thanks. That's not my style and I don't think that's what forums need, anyway.

Yeah, I know. But this one seems to beat all others in that respect...

Yeah, but why would you post so much if no one is interested?
(Btw, if people read it & don't comment, that does not mean they're not interested. I've read many interesting things without commenting on them.)
Also, e.g. davidsanchez and me have done our best to reply to some topics.

Don't worry, I was joking (as I tried to point out with the smileys)!
Of course many of your posts were/are interesting, but it seems you're a bit impatient. Like here you complain because 1 day later there are no replies:

After a month maybe, you might start complaining, but not after a day.

I think we're kind of hijacking Michaela's thread here now... Maybe these last posts should be removed to some other place?

Maybe I'm kind of stubborn?  :-D  But I don't think I'll be posting so much anymore, anyway.

Come on, what kind of conversation is that, that one needs to wait one month for the first reply?

And it's not that my question on that thread was a complicated one or anything like that. It would only take a couple of minutes to think of an answer and reply.

Are we? Or are you just looking for excuses to keep on moaning "no one interested" or "poor revolt just talkin to himself here" etc.?

Yes, but not all of the members are online every day! Some may look in weekly or monthly or even less...
Why so impatient?

No. No 'moaning' and no 'poor revolt' or anything of the kind. One thing is certain: you won't be seeing me complaining about it anymore...

Anyway, enough of this, I believe. Moving on.
