The Futureheads, Art Brut and British Sea Power are among the artists featured on a free album of The Cure covers to be given away with the NME on February 25.
The CD also includes new covers of the 2009 Godlike Geniuses by The Dandy Warhols and Lostprophets. Keep checking NME.COM for the full tracklisting.
Speaking on a spoken word introduction that features on the CD, The Cure frontman Robert Smith said, "When I started out with The Cure we didn't have many songs. We often ended rehearsals playing other people's stuff. We tried pop, rock, psychedelica, rockabilly, reggae and punk favourites. Banging our way through them was a lot of fun. It was also very instructive."
NME editor Conor McNicholas added: "When we started asking bands and artists if they wanted to take part in the CD, people couldn't say 'Yes' quick enough. It proves not only how influential The Cure are, but also how strong their songs are, as they easily stood up to be reinterpreted."

Meanwhile, The Cure are set to be crowned Godlike Genuises at the Shockwaves NME Awards on the day the issue comes out (February 25).
The next evening (February 26) they will headline the NME Big Gig at the London O2 Arena.

curious if it's any good(?).
unfortunately the NME bonus cd often seems to be unavailable outside UK (or, at least around here there's often just this sticker on the cover where the cd's suppsoed to be saying something like "for copyright reasons we regret that..." etc.)
then again some other UK mags do come with a cd here, though.

Oh, no! I ordered a copy of the mag from NME through Backstreet Merch. I really hope they don't remove the CD before posting. :evil:
That's the only reason why I ordered the magazine!

I think they all did a very good job.
My favorite: Lovesong (WOW I love this one)
My worst: Facination Street (I really dislike this one)
its nice one.......
It's a mixed bag but I really like the covers of Lullaby and Cut Here.
Catch is frightful though!
