Title: Hello from The Netherlands
Post by: Zennard on December 08, 2017, 01:27:42
So... i find myself here after 35 years of The Cure in my life. That makes me 50. I do no like aging, but I do like getting older. Anyway.... why here now? Just wanted to (re)connect to fellow fans who had the crazy experience of having the music of The Cure as the soundtrack to their lives.

I used to be a big fan, The Cure was my life at one point. Nowadays, I prefer not to listen to them like i used to do. A lot of that has to do with the way RS/The Cure has behaved. "The joke just isn't funny anymore." To many cancellations of projects, albums... "you promised me", the change in attutide, the continuous stream of cynical remarks, and I could go on. We have all been there.

So why am I here then? Because when they were great, they were the greatest. And I want to acknowledge  that. Long Live The Cure!

The Cure was my life at one point.

No, can't say that of myself. I might have thought that at one point, but looking back: no, my life has always been my life. Only I could have lived it they way I've done.  :)

What exactly has ever been cancelled?
We all know Robert has talked of many projects which didn't come to fruition (for various reasons), but as far as I know there wasn't one which has been cancelled. As I often say here in the forum: plans can change! Also, I can't remember RS having ever promised anything to us.  :?

(In fact, The Cure is one of those bands who hardly ever cancel a show or whatever. Last time I saw them, RS had a cold, but played the show nonetheless. Morrissey or Marilyn Manson most certainly would've cancelled...)

At this point it might be wise to repeat the words of Perry Bamonte (ex-guitarist/keyboard player):
QuoteLet's be honest, growing old is not good -
- unless you're a Cure song.

I'm sure it's just a sign of age when I say I can't find any new music that's any good (if you know different, let me know) but Cure songs just get better and better. With each passing year I appreciate them more, I hear more meaning in the lyrics, I'm amazed at the compositional skill, I'm reminded over and over of the emotional depth and still find new meaning and resonance in them...

The Cure is a like a son... even if your son behaves bad you love your son and you are with him always. That's how I see The Cure no matter what.

Welcome to the forums!

Really? No, I don't see it that way. (Maybe, if I had a band or a project, that would be like a kid to me.)
For me they're more like "cousins", who are a bit older than me and showed and taught me some things!

Well, thanks for your reply, Ullrich, appreciated. I want to address some points you made, very rightly so. Some things can be interpreted very differently, semantics as such.

Firstly, I never offered my life to The Cure in any shape or form. Obviously. What did happen, though, was that The music of The Cure helped me through some very difficult patches in my life. That is what i am grateful for.  And i never will forget that. The Cure were my imaginary friends.  For that period in time they were keeping me alive.

Secondly, The Cure's version of the truth might differ of other people. And their attitude did change, imho. Well, even Lol's book was made fun of for a short while. It might have been a funny inside joke. But it was a strained joke, too old and easy, not fun as in.... fun.
I know they hardly miss a concert and i do respect them for that.
Ofcourse, plans change... but be open about that. RS started the talk about that double album, not us. Same for In Orange. These things are just two things i think of now, but i remember since ever i began listening to them there were issues like that. Maybe i am too old indeed.
On the other hand, i do not think i am not too old, though, as i do still find enjoyment in new music and/or new songs from familiair faces.

Thirdly, i am content with growing old, my body fails me, but my lust for life has never been stronger.

But you made some valid points, well taken, hence my reply. Thanks again.

And i should repeat, Long Live The Cure. They were the best. If The Cure taught me one thing, is to stay true to yourself. And that is what i do.

Yeah, that's very true and it's a good "image", like I said imaginary "cousins" or "friends" would make sense.

Where, when and by whom? The band? If so, I did not notice.

Yeah, he mentioned the "improvement" on "4:13 Dream" as a double with a strange working title, which never happened (might be the record company, might be other problems). But: we never had an official confirmation, we never had a release date, thus nothing ever was cancelled.
What did he say about "In Orange"? I can't remember.
