If you could throw away 5 songs of The Cure that you simply don't love, which ones would you choose?
I confess that there are some songs that I don't hear too much:
Harold and Joe (never knew why...)
Never Enough (too noisy I think...)
The 13th ( :? )

i'm shocked...really
sugar girl is so sweet :(

so... for me is very difficoult... i have no "worst cure songs" ... i know that it's hard to believe but i love everything of the cure... everything
i try....
1 END
2 WAILING WALL
3 WENDY TIME
4 THE CATERPILLAR
5 THE PERFECT GIRL
i noticed the other day a post about fave songs [or something like that] and i noted that we each have very different posts. i was reading some of them and was thinking "hmm... how odd, i wouldn't put that song in my Absolute Favouites list".
that then got me thinking about what songs i and other people may hate. [yes it's true, there's some Cure songs i will never like]
anyway, here's my list of songs that i will be able to do without for the rest of my life. they are listed in rough album order.. with some commentary here and there...
Another Day- Boring
The Weedy Burton - no comment...
A Reflection- What's the point?
The Final Sound - see A reflection
Descent - that's not music
The Lovecats - i f*cking hate that song. plus whenever people hear it they seem to instantly relate it to what a "standard" cure song is [not that there's a standard but you what i mean]
Fight - Oh god.....
Mint Car- i would rather die than hear that song again
Ok so there's not that many, but you get the idea...
Javier
there are a few songs i don't like (breathe, chain of flowers, screw, a strange day) and a few i don't care about them (charlotte sometimes, truth goodness and beauty...) but there are two songs i really hate: sugar girl and anniversary. the second is in my opinion the worst cure song ever! :smt078
heh, this is what blew me away.
such differing views on something we are all so passionate about.
i don't know why but i thought for some stupid reason that everyone would have roughly the same opinion [mine]. i know that sounds dumb...
funny, those two songs are two of my faves....along with i don't know how many more...
he he
i love all the songs you both hate!!!
that doesnt mean i hate you!
the awfullest cure song ever is NEVER!!!

I also can't say I hate any of the aforementioned songs, but "Never" is definitely my least favorite of all time.
To change the subject a little, here's one thing I hate hearing anymore. Live versions of "Just Like Heaven" and "In Between Days." They play those songs way too much. There was a time when I really loved those songs, but to me they've been worn out.
With Porl back there was some freshness to them again, but they really need to dig deeper into their back catalog. The summer festivals were ok in that respect, but still too much of the same for me. Fortunately, Porl was there to spice things up a bit.
Here are some songs that I hate
1) Screw - what the hell was he thinking?
2) Descent - I agree... senseless flange
3) Wrong Number (Smith mix) - terrible
i notice that The Hanging Garden hasn't been played in 2005. i think, don't quote me....
and how about Give Me It???
J
It's so sad that those 2 songs were not played this year!! Two of my favorite songs!! I hope they would play those two next year! :-D 8)
- screw
- the caterpillar
- do the hansa
curiosa frank
I really hate the walk
"Return"
"Foxy Lady"
"A Pink Dream"
"Taking Off"
I can't believe some of the other songs listed by people. It's nice to see how a band means so many different things to so many. I can't believe people mentioned "Fight" & "Charlotte Sometimes". In a live setting though, I could really do without "Let's Go To Bed", "Boys Don't Cry" & ""Just Like Heaven". I have just seen them way to many times for my own sanity. I used to like them, but have just grown very tired of them.
There's really no song by them I really dislike. I actually used to abhor "Gone", but after all these years it's really grown on me. I really like it now!
A note on "Taking Off"... No pun intended, but I think it really takes off in the right direction. That opening riff is classic. It reminds me of their stuff from the mid-'80s.
When I first heard this song I thought, "Wow", and then when the lyrics came in I was suddenly disappointed. I don't like the melody of the vocals or something. I'm also not really fond of how the chorus goes, or the lyrics for that matter. This song could have been different, and much, much better in my opinion.
I completely agree with you Caley. The music is fine, it's the words that really ruin it for me.
I hate "Round & Round & Round" :smt078

i agree. this also reminds of this acoustic version of taking off (it's from paris Nov 04 or something like that... sorry i don't have my "info" here with me now). anyway the melody is actually different in that version - it almost sounds like just a backing track or something and the first time i heard it it felt quite strange but actually i have grown to like it more than the original which is so strained.
but still, the lyrics ruin the song: 'tomorrow i will start again...and carry on the same as i did yesterday'... please, i just cannot take it seriously...
oh i forgot the add that i personally dislike:
- young americans (ok it's a cover song but still - it's absolute torture)
- dressing up (when i hear it i completely understand all those people who say 'stop whining!' when they hear robert's voice)
- dredd song
Hello everyone ! I'm new here, congratulations for your forum ! :D
Here are the songs I dislike...
- "Club America", "Round and Round and Round", "Jupiter Crash", "The 13th", "Fake", "Strange Attraction", "Never", "Watching Me Fall", "Bloodflowers", "Subway Song". ;)
Then ... Hello everybody !!!!!
The songs I hate from The Cure are : "Club America", "This Is A Lie", "The 13th", "Mint Car", "Jupiter Crash", "Round & Round & Round", "More Than This", "A Sign From God", "Out Of This World", "Watching Me Fall", "The Loudest Sound", "There Is No If ...", "Where The Birds Always Sing", "Maybe Someday", "The Last Day Of Summer", "39", "Coming Up" and "Bloodflowers"
They just make me sick
Why does everyone hate Club america? I personally love it and i kno my veiw is unimportant in the great scheme but i dont know the prob.
I despise A thousand hours, Sugar girl and thpse kinda sub KMKMKM tracks.
Luke x
I agree with Beesley. I think "Club America" is pretty good. The bass sound/line is great.
Two people in a row pretty much HATE the entirety of WMS and Bloodflowers. How can you hate Bloodflowers? ... it's not always gonna be 1982 (or '89)
Songs i hate

that's all
out:

well, i wouldn't consider instrumentals like descent, covers and remixes here.
i can't stand screw, hanging garden, let's go to bed, there is no if, labyrinth, never, i want to be old
I'd say the ones I rarely ever listen to right now are
Lovesong
Boys don't cry
Another day
Its not you
Mr. Pink Eyes (That song makes me sick)
Close to me
Snow in summer
To wish impossible things
This Morning
Wrong Number remix from 4th disc of Join the Dots.
I can't stand "The End of the World." It's honestly the only Cure song I flat-out skip.
1. The End of the World
2. Foxy Lady
3. Inbetween Days
4. Hot Hot Hot!!!
5. Give Me It
1. Screw
2. The 13th
3. Harold & Joe
4. Just Say Yes
5. Jupiter Crash
Ok, I'm going to limit this to one song per album ... otherwise there would be at least four songs from "The Cure" (The Promise, Your God Is Fear, Why Can't I Be Me, Us Or Them):
Pornography
Fight
End
Want
The Promise
the 13th (worst cure single)
wendy time (why oh why was this song on the album? the big hand, this
twlilight garden, scared as you...those should have made the cut)
club america (pure crap)
round & round & round :smt078
do the hansa (ummm...no thanks)

mine are:
the final sound
the 13th (no surprises)
descent
a letter to elise (just never been able to get into it)
wendy time (should be on kiss me x3)
these are the only ones i can think of out of all of their songs
probably why i love this band :!:

Why so much hate for Club America? It's one of the only 2 good songs on WMS...
My list:
1. IDKWGO
2. Round and round and round
3. Strange attraction
4. Just Say Yes
5. 1000 Hours / One More Time (same crap. Sound like a Celine Dion ballad)
Quote from: Pierrig
5. 1000 Hours / One More Time (same crap. Sound like a Celine Dion ballad)
But, they fit so well on the album.
-play (it's soooo boring)
-watching me fall (sorry but I can't really cope with it...)
-new day
-pillbox tales
-heroin face
There's a lot of "Watching Me Fall" hatred here! I'll admit, it's probably one of the three worst songs on Bloodflowers (for me anyway), but I still think it's great.
I really like most of what the Cure've done, but I could live without The Top generally. I like the title track and the Caterpillar (and Shake Dog Shake is enjoyable), but most of it I just don't care for. The same generally goes for Three Imaginary Boys; I love the title track and 10.15 and like Fire In Cairo a lot, but most of the rest doesn't appeal to me much.
So, excluding those two (because, really, I dislike them enough to have not heard them to a point where I feel like I'm qualified to pass judgment on them):
1. Club America
2. Wendy Time
3. Hey You!!!
4. Doubt
5. Hot Hot Hot!!!
(I refuse to count Mixed Up, because I feel it's not a proper album)
-BF
1. Round & Round & Round - easily my least favorite song of all time - too happy sounding
2. Return - see #1
Fight - boring song that is a total departure from everything else on KMKMKM
Hey You! - just doesn't do anything for me
39 - I'll probably catch a lot of flak for this, but the song just goes on and on forever. I think the live versions are even worse.

some very varied opinions here....
Tops!
I really can't say that I hate any song by The Cure. And they're surely the only band I can say this about.
Ok, I don't get really excited when something like "Never" comes on, but hate is such a strong word... :?
I use to pretty much dislike the entire WMS album (excluding Want and Jupiter Crash). Recently I've been listening to a lot of Swing Tour boots. For me, this is the only way to listen to WMS tracks. Very it up a bit with The Drowning Man, The Hanging Garden and Like Cockatoos.    Â
Club America (In my opinion it's horrible!!!!!)
Just say yes

i hate:

Songs I can't stand
1. This Morning (I just think its too long and boring personally and Robert's voice sounds so off key on it)
2. Lovesong (It has been so overrplayed its ridiculous now)
3. End (I've never been a fan of this song either, the music is good but I'm not fond of the lyrics)
4. Trap (Never really cared for it too much, I found this song boring)
5. Mr. Pink Eyes (TOO psychedelic for my taste)
erm.... Here it goes...
1. The 13th
2. Club America
3. Let´s go to bed (never liked that one much)
4. Never enough
5. Jupiter crash
Three Imaginary Boys
-Object
-Meathook
-So What (oh well, it was the early days, but dammit, they took up perfectly good album space!)
-Foxy Lady
-The Weedy Burton (these two pieces of bunk shite?? WHYYYYYYY!!! at least the other three I mentioned were songs!)
Wish
-Friday I'm In Love (this song made me have to be weary of people who said they liked The Cure. grr....)
-Wendy Time (WHAT...THE HELL...IS THIS???!!!)
-Doing The Unstuck (just the album version though - I love the live version)
Wild Mood Swings
-Mint Car (it's like a f*cking mentos ad....)
-Club America (barf...puke...ughhh....)
-Gone! (I wish this song was gone...)
-Round & Round & Round (roundandroundandround we go! until I puke...)
-Strange Attraction (yes, strange indeed. I'm certainly not attracted to it.)
Bloodflowers
-There Is No If... (I think it would have been better if there was an if...as in, if this song hadn't been on there, it would have made Bloodflowers that much better.)
Other
-Dredd Song (this song will instantly make me destroy whatever sound system it is playing on)
-Hello I Love You (ditto)
-Just Say Yes (ditto ditto and it will also make me hunt down the Republica chick and give her a good smack...)
-Young Americans (just...why?)
-World In My Eyes (once again, why?)
-Mr. Pink Eyes (oh dear, bob...what were you thinking?!)
-New Day (ditto)
-Stop Dead (ick.)
-The Cure (entire album. can't find yourself, bob? well, I can't find a good tune anywhere on here.)
I personally really likes WMS, loved Bloodflowers, and thought The Cure had its moments(Lost, The End of the World, Us or Them, THE PROMISE!!!! :rocker)
I cant really say i hate many Cure songs but the ones i cant stand are:
- Never Enough (thank god it was a stand alone single. otherwise it couldve ruined Disintegration or Wish)
- Just Say Yes (acoutic version is tolerable but otherwise its terrible)
- Screw (just dont care for it)
First of all I can't use the word "hate" for any Cure song. I've learnt over the years that maybe I don't like a song when I first hear it, but sometimes for a reason that "works" for me in a particullar moment.
Although there are a few songs I don't like and I never did (still!)
Never - Too much pointless noise...
Splintered in her head - I just can't listen to it
Mr pink eyes - ???
Do the hansa - They did it for fun, so it doesn't count as a real song
The final sound - ...
Subway song - I can't take it seriously
And the worst ever: Airlock :smth100
That's all I think...

I really hate the walk
This my least favourtie and it gets played live so much (or used to). It sounds too much like Blue Monday - or maybe I don't like it because of the production as the Unplugged version is ok.
The album version isn't one of my favorites, but I like it okay live. It's the bass that makes that song, for me, in a live show.
And what about The Snakepit?
It´s horrible (in my opinion).
:smth011
World War
Dressing Up (Paris version is ok, Top version sucks)
Screw
Never
Us or Them
amongst others Club America, Give Me It, Mr Pink Eyes, Hot Hot Hot, Fight, Wendy Time, Cut, Screw, Never Enough (especially live...) + nearly the whole The Cure album...
i can't find a song i hate..
I DONT HATE ANY SONG IN PARTICULAR BUT I DONT LIKE THE STUFF THEY DID STARTING WITH "WHY CANT I BE YOU?" AND "HOT HOT HOT" GOING THROUGH "NEVER ENOUGH" AND CLOSING WITH "WRONG NUMBER" AND "JUST SAY YES" ...
THOSE SONGS DONT FIT INTO MY VISION OF THE CURE
:?
Never, Round and round and round,Torture, Wendy time ( the Wish version ), 39, Friday i'm in love,
I woudn't say I hate some of Cure's songs, 'cause the situation can change! I used to hate Shiver and Shake but after I saw it live at Rock'n'Coke Fest in Istanbul, I began to love it and now I think it's a brilliant song :)
Mmmm, the songs I dislike:
Boys Don't Cry - it's a wonderful pop-song, I used to love it very much, but why, for God's sake, the Cure play it at every concert it seems?! It's highly over-played and now I can't stand it anymore :(
Before Three - I dislike it don't know why! The melody is beautiful, Robert sings lovely, but somehow it doesn't work for me....
Wendy Time - no comments...

i agree, that is a good question indeed. *sigh*
i don't think wendy time is quite as bad song. imo the choice of tempo/character/arrangement on the album is more to blame if something, not the song itself. the early version that they played on the T&C II gig is totally different in that respect and i think it proves that it's not a bad song as such.

Yeah, ive never liked this one much either, its probably one of the most boring Cure songs, im glad they dont play it much, i can see why.
I rather like The Snakepit, actually. I was disappointed to see that it was played at the 2007 for soundcheck, but not in the actual show. Made me sad, really.
The Songs that I always have hated due to for me always have sounded very terrible and ridiculous and I don´t know why Robert always have played the same set in every show¿?, well my answer are the next songs:
1.From the edge of the deep green sea(I hate this song because every show The Cure never have left to play this f*cking song)
2.Watching Me Fall(Terrible!!!)
3.Trap(I think that doesn´t a Cure song because the distorsion of guitarrs so as the voice of Robert are very bad)
4.I don´t liked all the album The Cure 2004(For me The Cure died when I listened this terrible album)
5.Club America
Cheers!!! :-D
Quote from: leipzigcure on May 14, 2007, 18:29:161.From the edge of the deep green sea(I hate this song because every show The Cure never have left to play this f*cking song)
I think this song rocked when they played it on the Wish Tour. But I agree, when they played it during almost every concert on every tour after that, it started to get really old for me. And it really drags at times with Perry and Jason behind it.
I think it's better now with Porl back, but they could put it away for some time and it wouldn't really bother me. I could say the same about many other songs too.
How can an album KILL a band for you? Is that even possible? Infuriating as some things may be, "The Cure" as an album was certainly not the worst thing released in 2004. Not to mention that as far as bad albums by great bands, this effort wouldn't even be a blip on that radar. You have bands like the Rolling Stones whose efforts post 1979 have been all equally subpar, Lou Reed put out Metal Machine Music, New Order decided to go on after Power, Corruption & Lies... etc.
Granted, some songs by The Cure are subpar (I've already answered this post months ago), and they could certainly put some live songs away for awhile (aforementioned FTEOTDGS, Inbetween Days, JLH, etc)... but I don't see how one who calls oneself a fan could say they've put out an album that absolutely killed the band. Especially saying it was "The Cure" and not something like "WMS" (which I happen to enjoy enough). I don't know...
I agree, people go way over the top when criticising these things, i personally dont think its that bad an album, i wouldnt say its my favourite ever but its hardly put me off them at all. In fact i watched a live version of Us Or Them from southside festival recently, and i thought it was better than the album version. The albums im sick of most are KM KM KM and Head on the Door. Id rather they play something like The Promise than Inbetween days or Just Like Heaven.......
Quote from: splitmilk34 on May 15, 2007, 17:01:09Infuriating as some things may be, "The Cure" as an album was certainly not the worst thing released in 2004. Not to mention that as far as bad albums by great bands, this effort wouldn't even be a blip on that radar.
Good point. Cure fans are definitely spoiled. Almost everything is excellent, so even the average stuff stands out. :D
Sorry splitmilk34, this is my point of view inasmuch as for me The Cure since the album the cure 2004 doesn´t exist anymore for me because The Cure doesn´t the same due to differente sound, images, so as the bad drummer Jason Cooper who should leave The band and return again the great Boris Williams.
I don´t really understand why today are 4 members without keyboards¿?, where is those sounds as the piano in a night like this(for example),Plan Song without keyboards? believe me sounds very terrible.
For me The Cure will continue in my heart and mind only the years 1979 since 2003 only.
Cheers!!! :D
:-D :-D :)
WELL, THE 2004 ALBUM WAS NOT THAT BAD...
I MEAN...
SOME SONGS ARE UP TO STANDARD (PROMISE, TEOTW, BEFORE THREE, LOST...)
SOME SONGS ARE LOUSY BUT THEN AGAING I CAN FORGIVE THAT
IT WAS A NOBLE ATTEMPT TO COMMERCIALISE THE BAND AFTER "BLOODFLOWERS" SEMIRETIREMENT
THE SESSIONS WERE ALWAYS IN TURMOIL AND SOME SONGS PROVED FANTASTIC (SADLY, ALL ENDED AS B-SIDES)
JASON IS A GREAT DRUMMER (PLEASE BORIS, DONT COME BACK! DONT EVEN LOOK BACK!)
PERRY IS A GREAT GUITARIST (IT'S TOTALLY VISIBLE NOW WHEN PORL'S BACK)
...
ALL IN ALL, DONT COMPARE "THE CURE" TO "METAL MACHINE MUSIC" BECAUSE THAT'S KINDA OVER THE TOP... "PC&L" WAS A GREAT ALBUM AND STILL IS... IF ONLY "THE CURE" SOUNDED LIKE "PC&L" ...
:smth023 :smth020
"The Cure" is probably my least favourite attempt by the band (or perhaps Three Imaginary Boys is...), but I would't call it bad per se. Like every post-Disintegration album (minus Bloodflowers), "The Cure" suffers from poor tracklisting. To my mind, the b-sides from "The Cure" are far better than most of the main album. And while others have argued that sometimes hiding a great song on the flipside of a single is a great thing, make it all the more special, I disagree. To me, the main, concentrated effort should always be the album, not the supporting singles. Had "The Cure"'s tracklisting looked included This Morning, Fake, Why Can't I Be Me?, and Your God is Fear, and dropped Us or Them and Never, it would be a a much stronger effort.
And while people moan about the lyrics to a song like Lost, I still enjoy it.
And while people moan about The Promise simply being a reworking of The Kiss, I still enjoy it.
And while people moan about Taking Off sounding like a Just Like Heaven ripoff, I still enjoy it.
Do you see a pattern yet?
The thing that I dislike most about "The Cure" is the more guitar-oriented direction the album took the band. I love the keyboard aspect of the band; I love the soft, melodic side of the band. I have no use for Us or Them. And I will say that, for the most, the vocals on "The Cure" are really bad... but I chalk this up to Robert's age (those vocal chords can't remain in stasis forever) and that "The Cure" was supposedly recorded live. Which is probably a mistake.
But overall, a decent album, if ridiculously sub what I've come to expect out of the Man from Crawley.
Janko - I agree. PC&L IS a great album (it's everything after it that I dislike). And I wasn't comparing "The Cure" to "Metal Machine Music"... I was saying that it's not near as bad as "Metal Machine Music".
Bloodflower - I couldn't agree more. If the B-sides you listed were on the album rather than "Us or Them" or "I Don't Know What's Going On" than the album would've been astounding (in my opinion). But I still like it. "The Promise" is epic (and nowhere near a reworking of "The Kiss"... not even the same chord structure).
I don't mean to start arguments, I just get passionate about some things. To me, you cannot call yourself a fan and then state "so-and-so died for me in 2003." But, I will not begrudge anyone their opinion just because I do not share it. I think I can appreciate leipzigcure's honesty.
Back to work...
it can't that bad if it includes robert's voice.but there is just one song that is annoying me.it is called "(I Don't Know What's Going) On"
but it seems to me that robert likes to make this kind of song for kidding himself.and this idea's close to me.
and most of songs are about the "mood".
and i never judge robert smith(or any other artist who i like them).if you don't like some songs, just don't listen to them.
I DON'T, CAN'T, AND WILL NOT HATE any of their songs. There are some I don't really care for, and I kind of dislike their later stuff because of the loss of what I feel was the essential "Cure" sound. But I like them so, so much that I can't even bring myself to hate any of their songs...Even the goofy ones that most people don't like. :-D
i think several songs from 'the cure' were actually not that bad on the album but never worked live.
'lost' is plain awful live - and they even started concerts with it in 2004! what a suicide, huh...
it doesn't make me skip the track on the album but i regularly do that when listening live shows. the more i hear it, the more i just can't believe they kept it as an opener and kept doing it, over and over again!
'us or them' is crap but it's still much much better on the album. live versions are torturous, just a boring wall of noise without any dynamics at all.
'the end of the world' - imo honestly it's a great song on the album (and together with the video, pretty perfect). but never worked live at all. poor robert just can't sing it.
i was going to say "it's funny how your tastes change over time" but it's nothing funny, it's just relieveing and natural. if they didn't change there would be reason to get worried i suppose. anyway, what i was saying: for reasons i could never explain to myself i used to dislike 'dressing up', now i find myself rather fond of it. yet today i just can't stand 'kyoto song' for a minute. it's dreadfully long and musically so utterly banal, nothing in it. sometimes it annoys me to the point of....
yet some things don't change (which is also a good sign i suppose):
like 'young americans' is just as **** today as it always was.
etc.
talking about äthe cure', i think i need to come back to this:
Quote from: ohhfushia on May 16, 2007, 17:27:47
but there is just one song that is annoying me.it is called "(I Don't Know What's Going) On"
i think i've never said this before but it's always been a bit surprising to me that lots of people seem to name this one as being especially bad and useless.
because imo (and i DO stand behind my conviction and think that i have grounds for it too) it's one of the strongest track on the whole album
what comes to the structure/composition. it actually has a rather clever "overlap structure" if you listen to it and which makes it a really well-designed, well though-of, compact thing. it's not a pointless idle whatever kind of throwaway thing like something like 'sugar girl'. it's much more tight. also, the up/down vocals of "to me at all" are one of the few rays of light of pure invention on the whole album. so (and i think i can say this without making it a question of personal taste/preferation) purely songwriting-wise it's a HELL of a LOT more better than something like 'lost'. in this respect it doesn't matter to me "what the song is about" or whether it has "less to say" than 'lost' or something. it's simply a much much better composition.
that doesn't mean one has to like it though. you can say something is good and you can admire something and recognize it's merits but still admit you don't especially like it. there's nothing strange or contradictory in that. not everything that is "good" is necessarily your favorite/close to your heart.
so i just think this song deserves some merit, even if people didn't especially
like it. because it's definitely not a bad song.
The 13th. I was hoping it would be like their early gothic stuff, but it was surprisingly lame.

This is also my opinion. I think with a new drummer and of course with a new keyborder their songs would have again more power and depth. You know mostly live there is missing something.
I don't like the mostly songs of the wild moon swing album.
Here is my two cents on cure songs I dislike...
I abhor Friday I'm in love. I dislike never enough, wrong number, icing sugar (because it was before perfect girl, which I love).
I wouldn't say I HATE these songs, but....
Never
Us or Them
Screw
Fight
Never Enough
Wendy Time
Object
Meathook
So What
Foxy Lady
I'm surprised that Just Say Yes hasn't been mentionned that often here, it's by far my least favourite Cure song.
I don't like Wendy Time either, although the Play Out version is alright.
I dislike Just Say Yes, but it's grown on me, I think.
Why so much hatred for "So What?" and "Meathook"? I think they rock! :rocker
So What is funny, it sounds like Robert was really drunk when he did that...
Just Say Yes
Club America
Icing Sugar
Mint Car
Screw
Baby Screams
The 13th
Love song
Just Like Heaven
Night Like This
Mint Car, definately! I do not like it very much...neither does mom.
But I actually kind of like "CLUB AMERICA" because I don't think most people understand what Robert intended for that song...
It was meant to sound bad, and Robert meant to sing differently on purpose to mock popular music, as he did with "Let's Go To Bed" and "The Walk"
Too many to list... :(
The song I hate the most is......
Probably Gone!. I hate the jazzy sound, and Robert;s voice is every where on that one... It seems exhausting to listen to.
Even The Cure's worst song is still better than most of the other crap out there, so I can't say that I actually hate any song of theirs.
But if I had to pick a least favorite, I'd have to say "Never" from the last album. I just find it dull and rather pointless, even though it's ever so slightly grown on me since the first time I heard it...
As for most of the other "hated" songs listed here, I have to say that I like them. Yep, I'm a weirdo. :-D
Yeah, I hate today's music..... -_-
I reckon to be a true Cure lover you have to appreciate aall their songs, but on the other hand I can't stand Boys Don't Cry (it makes me cry iin pain). :rocker
I cannot listen until the end to these songs:
- Screw
- Return
- Trap
- The promise
In all honesty, this kind of made me sick. Listening to such hatred towards some songs. I don't know, The Cure is great. I could never hate a song of their's. There are a few I do change, but nothing that makes my ears bleed. Not literally, but yeah..
I don't listen to "The Cure" album because it gives me a headache? Well "The End Of The World" doesn't, and a few others don't, but. Nonetheless it gives me a headache, doesn't mean I hate it. Bleh, okay, I'm done now.
I don't think i hate any particular song but i don't listen to the ones where robert changes his voice like "club America" much. I dont hate it though.
The songs I listed. I dislike or just don't do anything for me.
I could never say I hate any Cure song.
All of the very different opinions in this thread fascinate me and I'm blown away with how one band can mean so many different things to people.
I love so many of the songs others have listed as their "most hated" and I agree with everyone who's said there aren't any Cure songs they hate - I don't hate any Cure songs although there are those I like better than others (the tracks on Japanese Whispers would be my least favourite).
But I'm afraid I have to disagree with those who said Robert's voice isn't up to it anymore. I think he's sounding better now than he ever did. I love the vocals on 'The Cure' - I'm really drawn to the emotion in them. He might not be a great singer in the technical sense, but the emotion he expresses is just beautiful. It's what I've always loved about this band. But then again, I'm getting older too...
I've pretty much decided that I'm not as into the band past 1992 as, say, 1982. Their 90s and 200s stuff just doesn't do it for me, and I feel sad to say it.
I never never never hate it, just can't be taken away like "A Forest" or deeply saddened like "Cold", I guess I just have more of a taste for 80s music in general...something about the dark, cold synths and the heavy beats, the distant vocals and the dreamlike atmosphere can't be replicated nowadays.
Nowadays, everything sounds too crisp, too clean. Far too clear, in fact. I like the older, rawer stuff. As goes with punk rock. I usually like my punk raw, lo-fi, garage-like at least, with lots of shouting and such...this new brand of punk, where everything is clean and easy to hear, softer, the vocals sung too fake...ugh.
Music will never be the same as it was back in the 70s and 80s, and I guess that's something I'll have to accept, because I was born neither in the 70s nor 80s, therefore missed out on said music, and had to endure the 90s and 2000s idea of rock...which sucks.
Plus, goth rock ain't what it used to be. Hell, I don't even know what goth is anymore. I want to be an 80s goth...
i hate rnb music and hip hop....please kill them....
I don't think that I hate any of their music, I think one of the songs I dislike is surely the Snakepit...Fight will always have a soft spot in my heart. When I was a naive teen I had tried to commit suicide and that song started to play on my stereo from a mixed tape that I had, and it made me rethink my choices...and thank the Cure and the heavens that I did; because I love life now...
Now that I think about, the three triple threats are ones I never listen to anymore.
The Dance Hits-Let's Go To Bed, The Walk, The Lovecats.
The Mega Hits-Just Like Heaven,Lovesong, Friday I'm In Love.
Yet I can't really say I hate them, because I Do occasionally listen to Friday, and there are parts of The Love Cats that are so classy.
I can't Stand Just Say Yes....
I've posted in here before, but it's been awhile, so here's my new list:
Us Or Them
Never
Never Enough
Screw
A Man Inside My Mouth
Young Americans
Wrong Number (P2P Remix)
Fight
Lullaby (Extended Remix)
Pictures of You (Extended Dub Remix)
Never Enough (Big Remix)
World War
Airlock
Object
Subway Song
Foxy Lady
Meathook
So What
The Weedy Burton
Wendy Time
That's a lot more songs than I'd thought.....

burn, lullaby, the cover songs and everything by the glove and cult hero. songs
i've never really liked are want, lovesong and going nowhere although not bad songs
Club America is probably the only Cure song i can't make it thru all the way... it's just soooo bad.... i always keep an open mind with any of their songs but that one is just complete garbage.
Screw, Meathook, Object, Subway Song.
Those are the songs I never listen to.
This one is esasy. The 13th.
I often jump away from End while listening to Wish - not because it's in any way bad, but because it's the only song on there that I don't think is pretty much perfect and I could be going back to the bliss of Doing The Unstuck for instance. Frankly it's lucky End is on there because I can't press the stop button on any of the other songs on that album when I need to go do something else. :?
Eh, there's a couple of songs on other albums I tend to genuinely skip and the portion of 3IB others have mentioned does show how much they were still learning at the time as teenagers a few years before I was born... doesn't seem fair to hold that against them though. :)
yeah END on Wish is a bit boring but i still like it... you know what song is freaking awesome that has only recently become one of my favs though? CUT which is a couple songs before END. I have heard it a hundred times and only thought it was okay but just within the last few weeks i can't stop listening to it.
I can't listen to Friday I'm In Love anymore, mainly because the radio killed it. People who barely know The Cure always associate them with that song and in my mind its kind of overrated to begin with. I also don't like Mint Car, the lyrics are silly and the song is kind of absurd. I know people love Lovecats and Let's Go To Bed but I don't like 'em either. I really am not too attracted to the bright, happy, sillier side of The Cure. But I do like Hot Hot Hot, High, Dressing Up, Close To Me, Before Three. But those songs are sooo good I can't resist them. But in terms of songs I don't like, I think I can name as many I don't like on WMS alone that would add up to the same amount from every other release altogether. One song I find to be ridiculously underrated is Lament. Great key intro and it just has a wonderful tune and atmosphere to it. Best song on Japanese Whispers. 8) But the band have released an awful lot of material and it was going to be hard for them not to make all classics.
yeah Lament is one of the best from that era for sure. I love Friday i'm in Love and all the happy ones as well but it is true what you say about people and associating them with those songs. My friends all say how much they love the cure but if you play them anything other then what's on the greatest hits album they say it sucks... which is ignorant and stupid
I KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!
My friends claim "Oh yeah, The Cure rocks!"
But they base that on songs like "A Forest", "Friday I'm In Love", "Lovecats", and "Boys Don't Cry"!!!
Arrrrr! It kind of ticks me off, I mean...give the band a chance, world!
They're much much much better than precious U2, Bruce Springstein, or Duran Duran combined, yet do we see them being named off on the list of "greatest 80s rockers"? NO, WE DONT!!!
The world seems to only like what it hears over and over again. If it's on the radio, like the repetetive crud that is POPULAR MUSIC, they fall to their knees in musical heaven to songs that degrade women and promote drug abuse!
Wow, isn't that something you want your kids listening to in their free time? Songs about gangstas and drive-bys and prostitution?
Seems to be the case around my school. If you even dare mention a "Siouxsie" or a "UK DECAY", you get the stink-eye, because none of those bands are on the POPULAR radio stations. If you can't hear it on local pop stations, it MUST not be good!
So hey, kids! Go listen to that music introduced to you not ten minutes ago on the radio, or the few decent tunes featured in your "GUITAR HERO" games like Metallica and Dragonforce. But don't you dare decide to step outside the norm and find bands on your own, bands with unique style that died out years before the 2000's...that would be SIN! ;)
Of course, I am just being sarcastic. People are entitled to like what they want...unless that means demoting my favorite band to my face! :P
Rant over.
haha wow that was quite a rant. Yeah thank goodness for the Cure... i don't know what i would listen to if i didn't have them. I just found some cd on the internet that has a bunch of cure songs done as lullabyes for babies. My wife is havin a baby boy this May so i just ordered it. He's a Cure fan already and he doesn't even know it yet.

:D
well, it's my first post, so first af all: "Hello, everyone!"
I suppose the time is the only criteria to decide whether you like or dislike something. So here is what didn't change with years and remaind (bad) as it was:
Doubt (first of the worst, even Smith himself admitted it once)
Six different ways (siply dull)
Pirfect Girl (way too simple and straight for me)
Fight (was it supposed to be worst U2 song? :))
Disintegration (everyday i like it less and less)
This is a lie (this is boring)
Maybe someday (maybe never again?:))
Never (too clever to be a good song)
I used to dislike "strange" songs like "New day", "Mr. Pink Eyes", "Screw" and stuff like this, but then I realised that they are just "boys on drugs and having fun" kind of, just freaky songs that you can make fun of imagining what strange pictures and thougts were in the heads of Bob and Co while they were plaing them.
Robert seems to have no taste in his own music. "DOUBT" is a fantastic song!!! ;)
I love your name, Happytheman. One of my favorite Cure demos, it's one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Welcome to the site! :D

Friday, I'm In Love (killed on radio, overplayed and really overrated)
Mint Car (Friday pt. 2 but even weaker)
Wendy Time (A waste of a song on Wish, when it should have been the much better This Twilight Garden instead on that album.)
There Is No If... (I don't like the lyrics and it's too cliched, also rather cheesy melody)
Club America (really about half of WMS to be honest, but this is just plain bad)
I know some will disagree, but you asked. I can't really slag any of the 80's stuff because they were so original and even if some of it sounds outdated it's still appealing. The 90's stuff sometimes sounds rehashed, bored and just going through the motions. Mr. Pink Eyes is a silly song but catchy and original. I can say the same for Happy The Man. Shake Dog Shake should have been on Pornography, really raw and disturbing song with a really good deep drum sound. I wonder if he had the lyrics for it in his home during Pornography.
Right, for my two pence worth - I really have a strong disliking for the WHOLE Wild Mood Swings album... there really is not one song on that LP that I like! And thats not for want of trying either...

Hmmm I don't have many songs I really HATE. But I do often skip songs like Friday I'm In Love, Thousand Hours, Round and Round and Round and stuff like that. I also tend to get annoyed while listening to High but until now I have no idea why actually.

anyway, I totally understand that everyone is affected differently by each song
I can't hate any of theire songs, they are too big for me: but, some songs have disappointed me - like Dredd Song (Did I really go see Judge Dredd to hear that??!!)

This will possibly cause some controversy, but I just can´t take Give me it. Rubbish...
Can't imagine that there could ever be a Cure song that I don't like...
:smth060 :smth049 :smth055 :smth054
There´s not many Cure songs that I downright hate...
As far as album tracks go, from the 80's the only song that I openly dislike is "Screw".
Post-"Disintegration" is a different story... I really don´t like "Doing the Unstuck", I find "To wish impossible things" boring (though not really BAD) and can´t stand "Cut" on the "Wish" album (a potentially great song ruined by hysterical vocals and boring wah wah guitar). Much of WMS I don't care for, but I think "Mint Car" and "Round and round..." are specially annoying. And on the self-titled album, "Never" is completely useless.
As far as single tracks go, there are a few I don't really like. "Throw your foot", for instance. Or "Stop Dead". Actually, the post-"Japanese Whispers" pre-"Kiss Me" singles B-sides in general do nothing for me.
I cant believe people hate The Promise and Club America so much. I understand all the hate for Just Say Yes but the Curve Remix on Join the Dots is much better and I actually really like that one. As for my 5 I'd say:
- Screw
- Hey You!!
- Never Enough
- Us Or Them
- Never
1) Round & Round
2) Wendy Time
3) Screw
4) Hey You!
5) Never
1. Your god is fear, The Promise, The end of the world, Never,...(2004 would fill this list easily)
2. This is a lie
3. Trust
4. Lovesong
5. Let's go to bed
Pictures of you used to be on top of this list for years, but it grew on me recently.
End Of The World
Taking Off
Cut Here
Just Say Yes
Club America

I'm with you, it's not my taste. But I definately see the merit in it, and I just kind of shrug it off and appreciate it, because I love the band so much! And even The Cure's worst is better than some other bands' best! :smth023

1. Your god is fear, The Promise, The end of the world, Never,...(2004 would fill this list easily)
2. This is a lie
3. Trust
4. Lovesong
5. Let's go to bed
Pictures of you used to be on top of this list for years, but it grew on me recently.
Most of those are good songs! And you have the nerve to call other people here "negative"... :-D

The day will come on which we finally agree with our oppinion on a cure release. Very, very soon in fact. ;)
humm i haven't heard them all cure songs cause i like to take it slow and i dont have the money to buy all the albums at once but from what i've heard i could really live without:
snakepit- its not that bad but god its so long and tedious
watching me fall- too over produced and so loong
gone- the lyrics are just OK but the music good its just.. aagh
and well i cant think of any other songs for now, but i hate to admit that the previously mentioned could grow on me haha
1. Lovecats
2. Lovesong (sorry Robert :()
These and nothing more!

I guess you're foreseeing the probability that you won't like the Hypnagogic EP, then...
i noticed some people listing a chain of flowers and a letter to elise
you guys either are NOT cure fans or deserve to be killed now :D
DECIDE
and i don't care about personal opinion
it simply sucks saying such a thing
now, mine:(i love almost all cure songs and the ones i find not good enough are usually unreleased or appear on remasters but)
-so what, object, meathook(a take them as one song)
-doubt(really a bad way of medleying the drowning man and faith !!!)
-screw(not always in the right mood to listen to this)
-wendy time(with wish bsides SOOOO F****** GOOD!!!! why?!)
-round and round and round(just sooo boring)
and i have to say i quite like WMS(almost the whole) and i really like I Don't Know What's Going On and so on and so on

No,you don't get the point
'really like' applies to a few cure songs- the others are rated 'would die for' 'stunned by' 'obsessed' or more modest ones  'love' 'adore' and 'really like' is for songs like IDKWGO
AND!
saying that songs like a letter to elise and a chain of flowers are to be skipped, this,my dear japanesebaby means "you either are NOT a cure fan or deserve to be killed now "

saying that songs like a letter to elise and a chain of flowers are to be skipped, this,my dear japanesebaby means "you either are NOT a cure fan or deserve to be killed now "
first of all, let me say that it was not me who said that and from my part i wouldn't skip those songs.
but:
any of those persons who did say so (that those songs could be skipped) could just as well ask you "ok and who are you to decide whether i'm a real cure fan or not? why would you know any better than me??"
because my dear sickboybg, the truth is that you wouldn't. you're saying you don't care about personal opinions, but the truth is that that's what you'll have. what we'll all have. and there's no way for us to prove that this person or that person was a better or worse fan than any other. i don't say "it's not true that this person was a better fan", i say "there's no way to prove it". because there isn't. and therefore we have to take opinions, whether we care about them or not.
:D
on a more serious level, actually, i do think/agree that there are things above being "just personal opinions". some songs ARE simply good, whether or not some people didn't like them. some songs are simply bad. so there are certainly things about which opinions are irrelevant, because there certainly is such a thing as rating songs by their sheer
quality. that has nothing to do with opinions, actually. so i agree about that. the only thing is that i've come to notice that this sort of issues are unfortunately pretty hard (if not even impossible) to ever really discuss in internet boards. however right we were with our point of views and however much we tried to prove that we're not just talking about opinions but about something beyond that, even then there will always people who will just come to you and say "but that's your opinion!".
so what i mean is that you (and me) might very well be right but we still can't win the battle.
i can't believe some of the songs people hate on a cure fan site!
the ones i would purge: just say yes (what was he thinking?), the end of the world (i always thought it was rubbish), strange attraction, wish version of wendy time (still love the play out demo), hm ... the rest of wild mood swings maybe :)
1. Play For Today - I just never liked it
2. Love Song - feels out of place on Disintegration, and it's too mopey for me
3. Foxy Lady - do I need to even say anything?
4. The Snakepit - just seems like a combination of The Kiss, Torture, and If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, but without any of their greatness
5. Happy The Man - just sounds like wailing to me
1. The End of the World
2. Round&Round&Round
3. Mint Car
4. Descent
5. Let's Go To Bed
Additionally I nearly hate all remixes from mixed up and hypnagogic states ep.
They just ruin the songs. Also Young Americans is a really shitty cover version

It's just my opinion, whenever I listen to the album I skip over it. I just think it should have been a b-side. But it's just what I think.
New Day
Lullaby
Disintegration
+ any ten songs from 4:13 Dream
Pick 5 random songs from Wild Mood Swings, don't really care which ones.
Follow up to another fellow forum, what are the cure songs that you don't like?
I've never been a fan of Lullaby. The effect of Robert whispering drives me crazy. I can't hear him! I was reading some older posts and was surprised how many Cure fans disliked Primary. It's one of my favorites.
Liza
Of the usually highly rated ones - Disintegration. Just not that good musically...
You have forgotten a big comic smiley, haven't you?!?!
Nah, not at all. An impassioned jeremiad on the horrors of aging, the dying of the light, missing the kiss of treachery and so forth I'm sure it is, it's rather short on the things I value about, say, Lullaby: melody and craft.
This is not to say I believe a linear melody is a sine qua non for a song - I'm at least as big a fan of Can and Captain Beefheart as I am of the Cure, and my favorite Cure songs include Give Me It and Snakepit... But I don't find Disintegration that good, for me it's one of the weaker songs on that excellent album.
Argh! It's one of my fave song, so i'm sad to read someone doesn't like it, but, well, that's how it goes, personnal taste, always different...
Hey guys :)))
That's always an interesting topic to discuss. After all being a fan does not mean loving absolutely everything the bad does, musically ;P
I absolutely hate Wrong Number. It drives me nuts. Seriouslly it gives me the same kind of vibe as visiting my dentist.

What do you mean Lisa? You're saying you hate his whispering style in general? Funny thing, for me this is actually THE most attractive way he uses his voice. I'm in love with all those whimsical sigs and whispers, sometimes listening in over and over, trying to actually hear the words...
I recently found a similar kind of vocals. The band is called Lights Out Asia. Really cool :D
@ Mint. I just wish his vocals had been mixed a bit louder...
Liza
"Screw" was always one I never could really warm to... (much as I love the rest of HOTD).
Also I'm glad "harold & joe" was just a b-side! Not a fave at all.
merging this with a previous topic. I think the ugliest Cure songs are in 4:13 Dream with Freakshow being the worst ever.
Thanks D. And I rate freakshow among the very worst ones too.
1.Doubt
2.Screw
Quote from: BisquityBoyleOf the usually highly rated ones-Disintegration.

I don't know. This is the title track and the album version has set a high standard
for the live versions, which suffered a bit during the past. In other words: I'm surprised
that you don't like the song, however.
You know how Robert once said that he likes The Figurehead better than Lovecats, though the latter has a better melody? Well I don't :D
Btw listened to Screw now: not half bad, a fun little bass-driven number. It has a hint of the "deliberately ugly" aesthetic he explored on parts of The Top, and it just comes together nicely. Certainly better than (what to me is) lazy, unfocused, atmospheric rubbish like Push.
...which reminds me to note that 'disliking a song' from The Cure doesn't mean, at
least from my point of view, 'uninteresting in general'. It's important to keep this apart. ;)
There's more than one way to dislike a song, that's for sure!
Most of their stuff between 1979 and 1989 is interesting in one way or another, whether a particular track works for me as a piece of music or not. Recordings by great artists in their pomp tend to be fascinating even if not every single cut is a masterpiece (e.g. Disintegration's title track). AND I tend to discover new songs I've never noticed are good, the latest being Happy The Man (wow!) and Screw (not bad).
Nor can I think of many songs from that period I find grating or annoying or in bad taste etc.
I'd say that from 1990 onward it's a different paradigm, and leave it at that.
The Cure is my fav band of all time. I recently made a list of my fav 300 songs ever and The Cure is on it 19 times, more than any other.
That being said, I can't pretend to love all of their songs. Some of them even grate on my nerves quite hard.
List of Cure songs I dislike the most (not including 'Curiosity', demos, Cult Hero, etc). I have a hard time listening to these ones:
TIB/BDC:
Subway Song, Foxy Lady, Meathook, So What, World War, Do The Hansa
17S:
Secrets, In Your House, Three
Faith/Charlotte:
The Funeral Party, Descent, Splintered In Her Head
Pornography:
Pornography, Lament (Flexipop)
JW:
(none)
Faith:
Dressing Up
THOTD:
(none)
KMKMKM:
Icing Sugar
Disintegration:
(none)
MU:
Primary (Red Mix)
Wish:
(none)
WMS:
Gone
BF:
(none)
S/T:
Never
413D:
Scream
"The 13th". And "Strange Attraction."
Least favorites:
A good bit of 3IB (like Another Day though)
A good bit of The Top (it's growing on me though)
The Baby Screams
Torture, All I Want, Shiver and Shake, The Snakepit*
Wendy Time
Club America, Strange Attraction, Round & Round & Round*, Gone, Trap
Watching Me Fall*
Anniversary
Sleep When I'm Dead*, Freakshow, The Hungry Ghost, T,HAN,WY, The Reasons Why
Scared As You, Wrong Number, Just Say Yes*, Burn
(*indicates ones I really hate)
Songs I can't believe other fans dislike:
Screw/Sugar Girl/A Chain of Flowers/Breathe/Push?!?
The 13th, Mint Car, Lullaby... etc.
so... all songs from Greatest Hits (except A Forest 'n' Lovesong) are worst ones, I guess.
Song I can't believe other fans dislike:
Homesick!
There cover of Foxy Lady, Gone, Mint Car, Lullaby, n Killing An Arab.
I still like those songs ( I don't hate any Cure songs) but these are just okay to me, n I like em the least.
"Coming Up" (bonus track on some of the "Bloodflowers" versions) is one I never really warmed to.
The 13 th is the one i dislike more probably. Sure there may be a few others, but that one... Well, i can't listen to it and finish it
Let's go to bed
In between days, the album version doesn't seem to grow on me but the other day I found this version with Jonathan Davis and I love this one https://youtu.be/-d1lQxreiFQ
Screw
My top five...or should I say, ,my bottom five of Cure songs ever would be:
1. Freakshow (worst Cure song ever)
2. Wrong Number
3. Round & Round & Round
4. The Perfect Girl
5. Gone!
I still can't understand why "Wrong Number" is played live always and why "Freakshow" was ever played live at all

haha don't be mean. "Want" is wonderful and a great opening song and "Mint Car" is a nice pop-song.
There's one that evokes a strong negative reaction for me:
The Only One
...I find the lyrics and the way it's sung quite distasteful, and lacking depth or truth.
* I suspect/hope though that they're not actually that shallow, and maybe it's an 'upside down' way of conveying meaning, like Bowie has done
I would say, hmmmmmm
Foxy Lady (Cover)
Killing An Arab
Gone

Screw
Ok it is a few months later since I have stated that I dislike 'In between days' but I have come to like it now and every time I hear it I think about this comment that I once wrote here not liking this song..
So I am taking it back. I like 'In between days'!
Some time ago I have read an analysis of 'Let's go to bed' on this site and I am listening to this song in a different way since then..and it now is growing on me too.
No changes yet as far as 'Screw' is concerned though.
Sleep When I'm Dead always sounded too "theatrical" for my tastes. "It's Over" just sounds like a missed opportunity. But I can't think of anything by The Cure that I would skip over besides those two songs. (I don't like the way 4:13 Dream *sounds* but that has more to do with the awful mastering and mixing.)
The 13th.
I abhor it. I couldn't believe my ears.
One thing is Kyoto Song, If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, The Lovecats, The Blood, or Wailing Wall.
The 13th was on another, less important league.
That song alone de-Cured me for a good ten years!!
Strange Attraction is not very far, either.
I'll never understand Wild Mood Swings.
Some stuff in it is quite good, others are just okay, while other stuff in it is utter dross.
Gotta say, The 13th doesn't do anything for me either - makes me feel like I'm being chased down by a horde of animated Hawaiian shirts. I'm sure though that people from some cultural backgrounds will find this really appealing - and it's not a bad thing to cater for different tastes like this. You'll always be annoying somebody by doing so, but this could be a bonus.
you know, it's a difficult question, because I haven't heard ALL of their songs to evaluate it like, but still there are a couple of songs that I look at a little bewildered
at first
"Club America"
everything would be fine, but Robert's voice... definitely not, why does he sing like that, it scares me ahah :1f62d: :1f62d: :1f62d:
too weird for me
then I thought that for the classics you need to choose something from 4 13 dream (sorry ahah)and you will be surprised, this is not a"freakshow", by the way I really like it;)
its "This.here and now.with you"
I never liked the beginning when I decided to listen for the first time
well... I just turned it off, and in some moments it all sounds like that.. crooked? Don't know.. but I don't hate this song, I just never listen to it
also i want to say something about "never enough" but i dont hate this song i love it but there is one little story... when I decided to listen to it for the first time, I immediately turned it off and decided never to listen to it again.. because I was confused by the sounds of Robert at the beginning, yes
without those um freaky um sounds the song is really good
Oh, and I'll also tell you my first impressions about the 13th
so, I see this clip for the first time and I think "what the f*ck, is this a joke clip or what, what is going on AAAHHGG??!"
well, that was very strange.
but, I caught this special playful, cheeky mood of the song ... and I like to listen to it, I think for the sake of the chorus or something like that ..
haha, in the end it turned out that I don't want to throw away any songs of the cure,I don't hate any of them, I definitely like them all in the end XD
I don't have the right to judge Robert's creation so rudely, you know
ps:sorry for my bad english, in fact, I mostly use a translator and try to write something myself ... because I don't know English at all (!)
and it seems to me at some points it looks crooked and uncomfortable to read ahh ... but at least it seems so to me
I've noticed a trend that everyone hates freakshows and the 13th.. I wonder why? I like them, I sometimes get in the mood to listen to such songs... a little dirty, which playfully look at you, a little crazy, shrill and sassy... in short, explain why you don't like them, I consider these songs rather not from a musical point of view, but from the point of view of mood and atmosphere
that's it
Currently I'm not too fond of most of the stuff on "Three Imaginary Boys" (including the demos and rarities on the 2-disc reissue). Just doesn't "ring the bell" with me these days.

yeah, I think if you give a person who has not heard the cure to listen first, for example, a lullaby or faith, and then "the 13th" (while not saying the name of the group)
he will definitely say that these are two completely different groups
this is one of the main reasons why I love the cure - its multifaceted
as Robert said when responding to Morrisey's rudeness "... at least I have two songs - faith and lovecats.. "
