Choose your favourite song for this album!, and write down WHY do you think it's great

David.
Fascination Street!! The bassline and the rythme are so great!!!
this one's hard... i'm half-way between fascination street and pictures of you... let's say
poy: wonderfully structured song, that powerful but gentle built up when the bass line starts rising towards the end is just huge...
"Plainsong" or "Pictures of You." I voted for "Plainsong," simply because it's the greatest album opening ever. It pulls ya in slowly, and builds to brilliance.
"Untilted" is my favorite for many reasons. It has alway been a song that put me in a vibe that was totally out of this world (very moving). This week it rings to a different vibe...
"feeling the monster climb deeper inside of me, feeling him gnawing my heart away hungrily"
Painful, powerful and passionate all in one. The lyrics to this song are so true to what has been happening to me this week in losing someone I truely cared for but never took the time to speak to her about what she was to me and how I felt about her. Now she is gone and my heart has been gnawed by the monster of love. I'll keep the pain but lose the memories...

Bye Nelly... I loved you.

Fascination Street, why?
The BASSLINE :smt118 :rocker
It's a difficult decision because I like almost every song from "disintgration". But I can explain one thing: I love to play bass during hearing this album and the song bassplaying is most fun is "homesick". I love to play it!!!! So I vote vor "homesick". :D
"The Same Deep Water As You" is my favorite. I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard the song (in my car) and I felt like I was in another world. Everything from the melting, watery bassline repeating, to the injured, effected guitar lines are perfect. The song embodies what it means to be hopelessly lost and hurt and fading in a relationship. Very rare that a song can convey such emotion... simply elegant.
Prayers For Rain. I love the way it builds up at the start, best song on the album by far. 8) 8) 8) 8)
This was a very difficult choice because I think that every song on disintegration is unique but also sort of complimentary to each other. I picked plainsong because it sets a nice tone, and it always puts me in sort of this blissful state. It reminds me of that fluttering feeling you get when you read something perfect. Quite possibly the most beautiful song ever!
I chose Untitled...but i love Plainsong and Prayers for Rain also...Untitled have something inside...behind that track...i don't know exactly, but it is something fantastic.
I love all the songs from disintegration
Plainsong is the most beautiful opening, untitled ends so peacefully, pictures of you has a lot of meaning for me, Lovesong is exactly how I feel about someone at the moment, last dance is so sad, I'll never forget hearing The same deep water as you for the first time, facination street has such an amazing sound...
oh I can't decide!
this is a tough one. i chose last dance becasue of some personal memories. this song brings a tear to my eyes every now and then. disintegration and the same deep water as you are both a close, close second.
-brian
We start saying that this album is great, all songs are very nice and have something unique.
But finally I voted for Closedown, maybe because this song remebers me an old love-story between one girl and me that ended in bad manner... now only faboulous notes of Closedown remain.
My favorite: fascination street before disintegration.
very difficult decision for me - could have been untitled, plainsong, disintegration, but i finally chose same deep water as you,
because, well, it's simply overwhelming
imposible to choose only one! :)
arrghh !!! difficult... but today i say Plainsong. This is a great introduction of the album and i can remember how happy i felt the first time i heard this song (it was the day of the french release of the album, i missed the class to buy it 8) ) : it was just perfect, exactely what i expected from the best band in the world. and the lyrics are so beautiful...
"prayers for rain" by far, this song is absolutely dark (one can imagine being stuck in heavy rainfall, wet clothes) great guitar and robert's singing brilliant
curiosa frank
For me it's definitely Disintegration itself, especially the Triology in Berlin version. :smt049 :smt049 :smt049 :smt049 :smt049 :smt049 :smt049 :smt049 :smt049 :smt049
Prayers for rain for me, too.
Intense and upbuilding. Great.
Tom
Pictures Of You, for the memories and because of the lyrics and melody. Seems a simple song but its structure is very complex.
forme its plainsong, the best opening for the bestrecord. its atmosfere is so calm and makes me feel my stomach dizzy. the voice ofrobert its unique and theechoeffect uffff
Quote from: yrbadrenauPlainsong is a great introduction of the album and i can remember how happy i felt the first time i heard this song.
yes! i feel the same! :-)
I pick the whole classic common greatest hits:
:-D
LULLABY!
The Same Deep Water As You.
Though the entire album is incredible, The Same Deep Water As You just really stands out to me.
Fascination street! :rocker
This is pretty much impossible for me, Plainsong, Pictures of You, and Disintegration are all incredible no matter how you cut it. and Closedown holds a special place with me as well.
Ill prolly say Plainsong tho, although Disintegration comes so close...
none for lullaby!? thats shameful, i would have voted fascination street but still, c'mon.
i also think the polls shouldnt have a time limit, there are always new members arriving and chances of them sticking around are higher if they can jump right in with the posting, a opportunity these albums polls give
I was also looking at it and i couldnm't believe no one voted for Lullaby. It's one of the highlights on the triology.
Fantastic album. hard to chose just one song but I love Prayers For rain. Really under rated and great lyrics.
my fav is last dance, but i'd choose
the same deep water as you
i love sad songs
Hard...
The same deep water as you, I think...

ditto with the lullaby thing.
then again, i would've voted for plainsong, disintegration or fascination street.
but still, its suprising.
oh, i also expected more for love song.
Lullaby is a cult song of that album, imo. I guess everyone thinks it's obvious so needn't' vote for it. Or maybe it's just my view on it.

yeah, you're probably right.
WELL...
DISINTEGRATION
LIVE VERSION WITH PORL IS EVEN BETTER!
Not a huge fan of live performances myself...except for The Cure :-D They sound good either way

WELL, LIVE DISISNTEGRATION HAS THIS EXTRA GUITAR PART THAT CAN BE HEARD WHEN PORL PLAYED THE SONG...
IT CAN BE HEARD ON EVERY BOOTLEG FROM THAT ERA AND IT SOUNDS FANTASTIC BECAUSE BOTH ROBERT AND PORL ARE PLAYINGG IT IN UNISON (SIX STRING BASS+GUITAR)
:smth020
Very, very hard for me... Plainsong brings me so much memories... and I love listen to The same deep water as you... but I voted Prayers for rain finally; I think the atmosphere of this song is basically the essence of The Cure in my particular point of view. :smth020
This is my favourite album ever!! So i think all songs are finally my favourites! :-D
Pictures of you, Lullaby, Closedown, Homesick, Untitled, Lovesong, Last dance, Fascination stree, Disintegration!!!... now I think is unfair to pick just one!!! :smth011
Disintegration (whole album) it's masterpiece for me....I choose Plainsong.... I still get a shiver when I am listening this song... :D
Prayers For Rain every time.
The whole album is astonishing TBH, but this song makes me stop dead in my tracks & insist nobody speaks until it's finished.
Truly a masterpiece. 8)
After much deliberation, I chose Plainsong. The way it starts out barely teasing you and then suddenly explodes into full, gorgeous sound makes my heart skip a beat every time.
Least favorite, Lovesong.
I love the whole album. It's hard to pick just one.
Mmmm...well, this time it's very very difficult for me...oh God....I really don't know, I love the entire album, it's my favourite one!!! :smth060
Fascination street, lullaby, pictures of you, plainsong, lovesong...but I think I'm going to pick THE SAME DEEP WATER AS YOU, just for the way I feel when I listen to this song...it's like if all the walls come down inside of me and I feel a knot in my stomach...
Don't know what this song has...
Don't know what this album has....
:smth049 :smth049 :smth049 :smth049 :smth049
Last Dance.
It sits right in the middle of side one, when things really get going.
It sort of sets an underlying mood for the whole album. It's very unassuming, but it packs such an emotional punch.
(apparently it's about his sister, not a lover).
Also, Robert's vocals are at their finest in this song.
All that being said, it was a hard choice to make between Last Dance and Homesick.
Disintegration for me
Prayers For Rain, because the keyboards make it a masterpiece, and fill it up with dark gloomy emotions, and it's not as synth-sounding as Plainsong. Key boards for once sound angry.

I completely agree!
Disintegration is my favourite by a long shot, especially some of the faster live versions. It is the best breaking-up song ever!
Before I met my wife I would play Disintegration REALLY loud once whenever I broke up with someone - very therapeutic. (It didn't happen too often for that reason though!)
This is one of a hard decision to make. The Album consist of all damn great song.
But this time i would like to pick 'LAST DANCE'. :smth023
Love the starting part and the whole song slowly bring me to the other side of the world.
plainsong
pictures of you
lullaby
lovesong
the same deep water as you
it's hard to pick just one, but they are my favourite 5!
DISINTEGRATION.
by a long shot. The others are quite boring, I am tired of POY, Lullaby, Plainsong ( just about every live concert has this  )
wow, this is a really tough question... in my opinion, disintegration is the best cure album ever, so i really can't pick a fave song. i definitely love last dance, lovesong, disintegration and lullaby. :D
In relation to this album, I think all of the songs off it sound far better live than on record. Also, Plainsong as an opener at concerts is so perfect! :smth020
The Same Deep Water As You and Disintegration. Why?
Kiss me goodbye... When we both us knew
How the ending would be...
How the end always is...
that's all...
Wow...s'hard to seperate the songs really. Disintegration is one of the few albums (by anyone) that works as a cohesive whole i think. There are standouts though...the title track, Pictures Of You, Plainsong etc.
These polls are such brainteaser (but also very interesting) because it's really difficult to choose just one song from a hall Cure album.
But when it comes to Disintegration it's almost impossible...
I chose Homesick; a rarely peformed (last time was during Trilogy, before that, I think 1989) beautiful song that incorporates angelic piano with a somber voice. I even got my brother who is in to death metal music  to like this song. :)
Even though I love Pictures Of You tremendously, I went for Untitled. The melody and the lyrics complete and play off each other in such a stellar way, it hits home with me every time. Also, the lyrics could be read as a poem without the melody and still be stunningly touching. Most of my favorite Cure songs give me certain images when I listen to them, but it's hard to think of any images that would measure up to the beauty of this song.
I don't think I've mentioned this before on this particular forum, but I was listening to this song when I was in a car accident (no one hurt, except the car), so we have a little history together....It doesn't make me think I'm bound to the song in any sort of mystical way, but I sure am glad I was listening to one of my favorite songs during those frightful seconds, rather than some throwaway, creativity-insulting fluff on the radio *shudders*, oh the horror....Won't listen to just anything on the road anymore...
By the way, I still don't know for sure if Robert wrote the lyrics. I know Roger wrote the melody, most of it anyway, but if he wrote the lyrics as well, I'm bringing him back. You heard me.
Hopelessly drift in the eyes of the ghost again, down on my knees and my hands in the air again...
Almost every song on "Disintegration" could be chosen as the best one...
"The same deep water as you" is my favourite. Possibly the most beautiful song The Cure have ever done.
Disintegration is my favourite track of this album, in fact it's the first The Cure song I ever loved and because of this song I've became a fan of them. This song means so much to me.
It has to be Disintegration :o Genius song and I love all the layers and the fact Robert speaks at the begining and a little bit through the song but you have to really turn it up to catch it! I love all that secret bits and the formation of the song....and after all these years I can't get bored of playing it! :) :smth020
I voted for Pictures of You but it's so bloody hard to make my mind up. Plainsong? Untitled? the title track? Lullaby?
Last dance. I think it's a classy composition and is a perfect balance between pop Cure and morose Cure obviously it's more the latter than the former.
This was hard, but Plainsong, followed closely by Lovesong, Pictures of You, Closedown, and Last Dance.
The title track; unrelenting in its instrumentation and despair. My all-time favorite Cure song
01 Pictures Of You (it makes me smile and cry at the same time... just simply amazing. Show version even better)
02 Fascination Street (hard, drifting sound, and the lyrics is... trip to the wonderland).
03 Plainsong (great, monumental music, and scared and wounded lyrics... absolutely fantastic. What a great opener.)
The pinnacle album...
01 The title track (the words, the keyboard, the noise of a smashing object, a masterpiece)
02 Prayers For Rain (a good concert opener, not only for bad weather) ;)
03 Untitled (a rare live track, shame)
Only 2 votes for Closedown? It's like the essence of The Cure. And the obsession with SDWAY I don't get--it's beautiful and appropriate in the context of the record, but on its own it's not an interesting or impressive song.
01 Homesick
02 Fascination Street
03 Prayers For Rain/The Same Deep Water As You
04 Lovesong/Last Dance
Fascination Street
Pictures Of You
Lovesong
Not sure if I ever mentioned this, but the first time I heard 'Lullaby' (didn't know it was The Cure) I thought it was some woman singing the song...
