Title: 2007.10.06 Mountain View 'Download Festival' (USA)
Post by: monghi on May 29, 2007, 18:36:41
"We are really excited to be performing at the Download Festival in San Francisco -- our only North American festival date of the summer. We particularly love the proposed 'interactive' elements of this event -- they will undoubtedly add a whole new dimension to the show," shared Robert Smith of The Cure.

If it's true, I'm going. No question. I'm a few hundred miles south, and I probably won't care to see many of the other bands playing, but that's just something I'll have to deal with.

I guess this is one way of building back up my music collection....

I'll be going.   :rocker  Too bad Robert says this is the only festival.  There's another Download Festival happening about 2 1/2 hours from me w/ Incubus headlining  :(  Still, by stating the "only festival" this leaves open the possibility of Cure only shows.

I think they will be coming to South and Central America.  At least it seems like they are trying to work out arrangements.

With them playing so few North America dates for this tour (20 really isn't that many after all), I wouldn't be too surprised if this is the only Northern CA date.

No kidding.  It's next weekend!  I wonder if they will play some new songs?  Robert said they would in Mexico, though I don't recall reading anything about the Shoreline concert.  Certainly they've rehearsed enough to make the debut of a song or two and not just throw the same old singles at us once again.

i guess the color of robert's socks is so damn important that some minor facts like upcoming gigs just don't make to the top of the list of interests anymore.

Oh, I think you were luckier than any fan attending this show.  How long was the Brisbane gig, 3 hours?  The Cure are scheduled only two hours on Saturday  :(  Maybe some young band will show a little respect to their elders and bow out early, thus allowing The Cure to put on a proper gig  :rocker  My vote is for AFI to cancel

hey let's hope so. AFI sucks heh.
although i'm afraid it might just as well be that every crappy band there wants to keep their slot in the bill just so that they can boost up their sorry little egos and be able to say "we were on the same bill with the cure!" and write that down on their resume or something.

anyway, 2 hours doesn't have to be necessarily bad. it depends what they choose to play. if they do similar stuff as in japan, then it's bound to a disappointment, more or less. but just thinking of gigs like carhaix 2002 - not the longest set but still, what a killer setlist!
i wish i'd seen that gig, actually.

Aside from AFI, this is a very strong line-up.  BRMC and (especially) Metric are amazing bands and are great live.  None of them are crappy, and I don't know that any of them need to note that they played with The Cure once in order to have a successful career, as they've already proven themselves as solid acts.

Right now is 20.19 in Peru (18.19 in San Francisco, and 03.19 sunday morning in Europe). The boys should go to the stage in exactly 2 hours 26 minutes. Listening Live 105 but there's just shitty rap music at the moment, no Download Festival so far. Crowbi-Wan is attending the concert.

I've heard murmurs of Truth Goodness and Beauty, but I wouldn't trust them at all.

And I'm very interested in hearing this new song. The new single, you suppose?

you'd think so but then again you never know with Robert, it could just be the first song they feel comfortable playing - maybe the one they know the best or finished first - therefore having the most time to practise... maybe if we're all extremely lucky this show will be taped by someone who's willig to share it...  :D

i think they did it at that MYspace secret show thing in sydney - either way i reckon the sets and the performances are just going to get better and better as time goes by...

They did play Maybe Someday at the Myspace secret show, but I'm glad that song made the Download Festival set -- I'd love for more Bloodflowers songs to make the setlist. I wonder how Maybe Someday sounds without keys, though.

And I agree with Javier about the performances getting better as time goes by -- this lineup hasn't played that many shows, compared to most previous lineups, anyway. And oh, the sets....

Should be interesting!

boring set, but that was to be expected, if they didn't almost do the same set as in australia, the postponement of the other dates would have been a laugh anyway. to me personally they could have buried Maybe Someday for ever (and bury it as deep as Wrong Number+Never Enough), but of course personal opinion... hopefully Mexico will get another new song - but let's wait what the new song sounds like, could imagine it appearing in the not too far future somehwere anywhere  :smth023

yup, boring! not totally - as luckily it seems (unless someone has forgotten to write it down) Deep Green Sea was NOT in the set, thumbs up for that! but the rest is always the same, it is so obvious what songs will follow for years now (play/forest, never/wrong, 1015/killing, only tonight/kiss), I don't know what is that difficult to at least mix up the order a bit... it is all so predictable now. all those songs from albums following each other - never liked the idea too much, to be honest... and as my fave albums are almost not featured at all in the set (or just with a single...), it seems boring to me, can't help it.

from a review on COF:

"Wow! Got that setlist up quick. I got a picture of the setlist that the lovely girl from Boston (?) snagged. On it the new song is titled 'Please Project' (And I loved it! Sounds more like a 'Wish' track maybe than the past few albums). 'Killing an Arab' was retitled 'Killing Another' (I couldn't make out what he was singing until I saw that) and alternate 'Seventeen Seconds' encores (not played) were 'At Night' and 'M.'

'One Hundred Years' remains possibly the most perfect live song by any band. Amazing show - can't wait till Red Rocks!

I was expecting a comment along those lines, typical Cure black and white (by the way, where did I say complete Faith album, I talked about albums + if you want to know my top 5 - it is disintegration,faith,pornography,bloodflowers,17secs - all just featured with one song only or simply singles or songs you'll always hear live as stated - but as always, it is one word + if you want to hear another word - with the exception of certain encore songs (and one or the other mainsetsong like kyoto song) I think the recent set deserves 4 letters -> C-R-A-P)... I know, the set was marvellous, best gig ever and so on, of course, how could I forget. How could I dare to critizize the mighty Robert S. and the rest of the band - nahh. feel so ashamened for doing that... just ask myself why Robert ever bothered to record songs in other ways if this is so much better than what he ever did before my 0.02$ - of course it is nice to get a new song, but f***in hell, I can't jump around in enjoyment just because of that...
Title: Re: 2007.10.06 Mountain View 'Download Festival' (USA)
Post by: japanesebaby on October 07, 2007, 16:28:48
heyy let's take it easy.  :D
but yep mighty robert needs to be criticized sometimes, sure. he's such an old damn stubborn bugger sometimes.
and as i personally do hate every site where you can't say anything critical of him/the band, so please don't hesitate to bash him if you feel like he's earned it! so please debate but please don't let it get on your blood pressure too much - after all, it's only music.
just thinking about your health here guys.  :-D

personally i'd say i can't say much yet since i haven't heard the show yet. i remember being pretty bored when looking at the aussie tour set lists, yes i was and i felt like really bashing them for it. but then i got to listening to the melbourne recording and i found it such a strong performance that i guess i forgave them some of my grudges and i realized i was still kind of happy that this band kept going as well as they did. anyway, that was just me and i'm not trying to say everyone should agree with me - and maybe i wouldn't even have the same experience second time around.
about the set lists alone, i do agree that they keep repeating the same dead-boring stuff just for the sake of it. and yes, even the order of the songs somehow cannot be changed - which is pretty uninteresting most times.
i really do hope they'd do one-off experiments like in paris bataclan 96 more - they'd have all the repertoire at their use there, just to be a bit more adventurous and just try it out! and everytime i see a festival set list which is once more like a repeat from the other show and people say "but this was a festival", then i can't be thinking about carhaix 2002 (like is aid earlier in this thread i think). that was a festival too but they just didn't give a damn!

so let's hope they'd dare to be a bit more adventurous once more, mayeb when they have more new songs in the set? because even if we can't ask it to be something like a complete 'faith' being played, i truly hope it's not just going to be "new songs + compulsory pop hits" parade. ecen if the new songs were great, that would be pretty nightmarish. so i hope they find some nice matches between some new songs and some old songs and could maybe even create some new "pairs" to replace these ages old "rules" like iotwcs/the kiss, 10:15/KAA etc.

anyway still i'd like to end with repeating that at least in my opinion they've been putting up pretty tight and energetic shows a few times recently. maybe not always, but still... so personally i can also join bashing them for their lousy set lists, but i'm also ok with giving them some merit for their quality of performance.
and again, i'd like to hear the gig first before i know whether there was any reason to jump around, whether in enjoyment or in something else...

I see there are several songs in the setlist that have not been played regularly in recent tours (ie. How beautiful, Maybe Someday, Kyoto Song, Fire in Cairo, Jumping, Wrong Number, Signal to Noise, Primary + new song) and a few others i've never seen live so i'd be happy if they perform these when i see them during the NA tour.
If you look at old tours (Wish, Prayer) setlists were almost identical - they mix them up a lot more now.
I think some people are spoiled because there are audios out there of most of the concerts but most people seeing them live will only see them once during a tour and its a whole difference experience than just listening on your computer or stereo.

Ok, so my reply was slightly sarcastic and trust me, im not one of these 'oh-robert-can-do-no-wrong' idiots.
But my point was - what did you expect? Lets be realistic, we all know theyre in the middle of recording so theyre hardly going to rehearse 50 different songs for those of us who mightve heard 100 Years a thousand times before.....

It is pretty boring seeing the same old stuff and yes, they should try and give a few more surpises here and there, but remember to some people its not the same old stuff, you know? when i saw them for the first time and they played 100 Years i was thrilled, i had no idea that they played it at every single show. Maybe if people are so sick of the same songs they should try listening to other bands for a while.
It works for me.  ;)

Sure you can get fed up with songs like FTEOTDGS (which they didnt play for a change)
but whats worse is the "i want, i want" attitude thats goes with the kind of people who turn up to concerts and stand there with a look on their face, like 'impress me'.

So criticise them all you want, i dont mind, i dont have some blind ideal view of Robert Smith, i have certain things i dont like about them myself, but the point is, dont expect miracles, you might have bought the records, but you dont own their souls because of that.......... that goes for any band.

that was what i meant...

i can't say it's boring or not, only reading the tracklist...

we have internet, we have dimeadozen and we have bootlegs... if we wouldn't have these things, we would mind only about the show in itself...
that is why, i think..it's too "early" to say..the show was boring (...or the "setlist")

and don't forget, this is still the tour-structure of Festival 2005 !
opening is still "Open" and the end of the mainset is still "End"...they'll change very soon!

that is true... i can think of a lot of gigs (i don't mean the cure particularly) where i had really really great time and yet when i looked at the set list later and it was nothing spectacular. but being there makes the difference...

i was just thinking about this, how internet has almost ruined something in all this - even though it has also brought some other kind of excitement too, fo course. or let's not say "ruined" because it's really not all negative impact, but let's say changed thoroughly.
but before internet, you had to trade for a gig first (and just imagine, snail mail trades before internet were really snail-ish.....) and then you could sit down and listen through it - and find out what songs were in there. there were no databases from where to read all this, so i can imagine that it was always an adventure, to sit down and listen through a show...
yes, sometimes i do think we've really lost something, that we're truly spoiled today somehow...

Yeah, we can't really forget that even though this is a similar set structure as what they've been doing for a couple of years, this is the first time this kind of set has been played on that coast of the US.  It was a fresh show to the people who were there.

yes, it is!
guess how you could live the atmosphere "pre-concert" just thinking (not KNOWING) which tracks could've been in the setlists.

now, it's all different...
a part of me tells :" don't watch the setlist of the tour, don't watch it " (i made in this way with Depeche Mode, and i enjoyed very much the show)
but the other part of me can't do that..i'm too curious and too anxious to read these kind of news that sadly, i can't wait for the concert without any kind of information.

and before the internet, it was hard to discover setlists for every date!

little OT: the same is for the albums (not only by The Cure),isn't it? sometimes you download it for curiosity, and then when you buy it, the surprise is not the same as it would've been if you didn't listen to it previously(luckily, sometimes i can resist without listening to anything before i buy the album).

There is alot lost.

Before the Internet.
You used to have to wait til the release day to hear a record and see the artwork.
You maybe just heard a single on the radio, then going to buy the album, you got to
look at the artwork of something you never saw before, and listened to something you
never heard before was something really nice that the internet killed.

Now, release day, means just getting a lossless source to replace the mp3s you
downloaded and jpgs of the covers.
The whole thrill of buying and hearing a record is gone.

Before the internet.
You could camp out all night to buy tickets, and actually get the first rows,
and pairs, not single tickets, from ticketmaster from being a dedicated fan.

With ticketmaster.com, all this is gone. And those were good times, spending
the night lined up outside with true fans. One of the last times I was able
to do this was for the bloodflowers promo shows, was a snowstorm during the
ny onsale too, that was fun. But I got tickets for what sold out in less than
a minute. Roseland in 2007 with ticketmaster.com would not have been so easy....

Before the internet.
You really didn't know the setlists.
You went to the venue not knowing what you were going to hear.
Now, only if you have enough self control to sta away from the
message boards, you might have a chance to do this.... Not easy..

I miss all of these things........

Well, one of two things has got to give.  A) I stop recording openers or B) I invest in a different recording device  >:D  Recorded all mainstage acts w/o issue.  Cure came on, had my levels, they sounded great, checked my recording, sounded great.  However, when I went to transfer the file to my computer it can't completely read the file!  WTF!  So, I give it a listen on the recorder and sure enough, towards the end of the new song it locks up.  Now, I can fast forward past this and continue listening...only to have it lock up in a few other spots.  I'm so pissed right now.  Thank god there were other tapers at the gig last night and I hope they do as promised and up a source.  As for mine, I'm not sure what can be done.  I need to talk to some iRiver guys and see if similard problems have occured.

The new song was pretty cool.  Upbeat, simplistic lyrics.  Sounds very 1992.  No fs or fteotdgs was nice.  Baby Screams (or shits to some) was a nice one too.  I love HOTD so hearing anything from the album is cool with me.  How Beautiful You Are was equaly nice.  Not as sloppy as heard earlier in the year.  Maybe Someday was ace.  Go Porl go  :rocker

I'm tired, pissed, and have to get some work done.  As well as shop for an R-9.  If I have any luck transfering the data I'll make it known and get my recording out there.  It's just not looking good at this point.  :(

Best of luck to the tapers heading to Mexico.  I wish you better luck than I had.

Oh, merch was lame.  same shit as we saw in Asia/AUS

Hey, at least I pulled a nice SWR recording for ya  :rocker  I'll be using iHP-120 #2 tomorrow night.  Haven't installed the latest Rockbox build yet and not sure I will since I've yet to have a problem with it.

But yeah, I'm doing some reading up on things, getting some advice.  Let's hope for the best  :smth023

I did enjoy the show quite a bit.  The sound was good, vibe equally good.  Robert was a bit off at the beginning, forgetting lyrics (festival = too many Coronas I think).  People can knock the song choices if they want.  We all knew it was going to be similar to the shows earlier this year.  But seeing The Cure live is something special and you just don't get it from reading the setlist or even listening to a recording.  Sure, I was hoping for a few darker songs and tracks they haven't played in ages.  The way I see it is most concertgoers don't visit Cure fansites and check setlists.  Had I not, there would've been some real surprises.  Then again, saying that makes me wonder if the people that aren't obsessed and check the setlists to previous gigs would be disappointed since stuff like Mint Car and Friday weren't played.  They can't please everyone no matter how hard they try.  All they can do is put on an entertaining show...and it was :)

good vibes - good to hear that. and yes after all, performance is what makes the difference, as a whole, in the end.
by the way, how was the audience there in general? i guess the bill wasn't too bad for them this time (as it was somewhere like in miami :-P) so i assume it was pretty good...

There were some hardcore fans obviously ticked that it wasn't a dark set and the standard singles fans that left early.  Honestly, I wasn't paying too much attention to the crowd.  I was lucky enough to have no one to either side of me and short people to the front and tried to remain still, just focusing on the stage.  Should've snuck in a camcorder.  17 rows back on the left and a slight incline would've made for a sweet DVD.  Funny to note that I did see that Robert doll featured in the "smell my feat video" enjoying the show from 7 rows back

Download Festival: The Cure saves the day
Other acts don't carry weight at Shoreline

The Cure proved to be just what the doctor ordered on Saturday at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. The legendary modern rock band thrilled fans during what was only its second (and final) U.S. date of 2007.

No kidding.  One annoying thing was the DJ spinning records on a neighboring stage at the same time.  You can hear the bass in between songs on the recording.  Then at the end, all of the Tiesto fans pushing their way towards the front.  And they wouldn't shut the f*ck up!!!

cure_kitty

Good to see a local on here....just got pulled over by a state cop on 202 near KoP.  78 in a 55!

Hey it's cool to see someone from the Philly Area on here too.  Don't seem to know too many people (except my sister but she not as big as a fan as me) who like still like The Cure.  Some of the people I know did in the 80's/90's but not now. Quite sad. :smth022   They were more of the I only like the more Pop Songs of the Cure Fans not everything by The Cure.

Yeah the cops on 202 are really bad, almost everyday when I go or come home from work they are pulling someone over.  Had a few close calls myself.  I try to keep it under 65.......................................  BTW:  Where do you live???  You don't have to say if you don't want to just curious.

I feel for ya Brian.

I had a major mishap myself at Cure last night. All of the main set was recorded with mic in instead of line in, stupid rookie mistake I made by not taping down the settings and trying to use the DAT entirely by feel and probably bumped the switch by mistake. Tons of clipping mostly unlistenable. I didn't discover this until I was able to check levels (security was 2 feet away from me).

No worries the great Erikdenning will be putting his version up tonight and it sounds superb. Don't forget that for all of you downloading to send a deep hearted thanks.

If you can put up SWR and the other acts I'd appreciate it. I will share my BRMC on DIME which sounds fine (why I got them ok and screwed up the Cure is beyond me...I've been living with bad luck this whole year)

Sorry to hear this too, but I aready sent you a note on the TS thread.....

So sad about the two of you.

Youre both due for some good karma on the 08 tour!

thanx David :smth023   sounds like the band we know.. Just a mention about the Melbourne gig.. the setlist may have sounded "preditable" or "boring" as has been mentioned above, but the quality of Roberts voice ( he didnot forget lics) was unbelievable, I was totally impressed, I never expected them to still sounjd so great , and as for the sound of the music.. well.. awesome. Ithought I would cry, but I was so overwhelmed with awe that I still buzz today!!

Sounds like everyone had a great time in U.S.!! :rocker

With help from Caley, I was able to recover the data and safely transfer it to my computer.  There are some skips hear and there, but it's better than only being able to listen to the first 50 minutes on my recorder.  Working on the splitting the tracks up now and will post to dime soon.

Sorry to hear about your recording woes Pooka.  Great to hear Mr.denning pulled a nice tape! I'm looking forward to giving it a listen.

I see them live in May 2008!!  I guess I'm easy to please because the setlist looked pretty good to me!!  Maybe it's because I've only seen them live one other time in '96, but let me tell you...  it was by far the BEST night of my life!!  :rocker  :rocker  :rocker

I'm not a trader either. Everything I've got has been acquired not through trades, but through torrent sites like www.dimeadozen.org and links like those put up on certain sections of certain sites. Concert bootlegs aren't difficult to come by; they're free, you needn't trade for them. You just have to know where to look.

;)

And I have no problem with the setlist. Would I prefer it tp have been a Top/Wild Mood Swings/Three Imaginary Boys/Japanese Whispers/Bloodflowers oriented set? Certainly I would. But reality will on this occasion suffice.

Keep trying with Dime. Keep reloading the page every hour or so until there are enough openings in their preset limit that you can register. I got lucky -- about the second time I went to Dime, I was able to register; others, apparently, have not been so lucky, but I do recommend you simply practise vigilance.

And if Dime doesn't do it for you, there are other places (like foreverdrowning.net/torrent and thetradersden.org) where torrents can be utilised. And if torrents aren't your thing, Curefans itself has a downloads section.

Good luck.

does anyone know the best way to increase your ratio? I've hit my 5GB download limit and need to get my upload amount [and ratio] up but am unsure of the best way to do it..
once you move your downloaded files from the spot you downloaded them to, or changed the folder name, can you still 'seed' them?
Title: Re: 2007.10.06 Mountain View 'Download Festival' (USA)
Post by: Bloodflower on October 08, 2007, 08:57:30
Sorry -- can't give any advice on that, mate. My ratio's crap, and I really don't know how to improve it. For what ever reason, I'm able to upload at a higher rate (or, on the worse end of the spectrum, at all!) while downloading. What I've been doing is setting my download cap at about 40KB/s so that my ratio stays above abominable level....

And one more thing to scatcat:

While there ARE other torrent sites out there, Dime is the best of them all. Especially considering the nearly Biblical flood of Cureshows that's been going on for the six weeks or so.

not sure if it depends on your client too. you can of course move any folder you've downloaded back to your download folder and restart old torrents anytime. if you do have a 100% fileset then your client should go straight into seeding when you restart such a torrent.
and in case if you already changed the folder name and you now have a problem seeding the files (because your client might not be able to locate the correct folder from your download folder), you can at least try this:
remove everything referring to this torrent from your download folder (but make sure you have copies of the completely downloaded files somewhere else on your HD! you'll need them). then simply start downloading the torrent again, completely anew. this re-creates the torrent folder on your download folder. once the folder is created, then immediately stop that new download - because all you ever did it for was to re-create the correctly named folder in your download folder. then just replace all the very incomplete (actually they are 0%)files inside this new folder with the ones you've already downloaded before (=complete files). then re-start the torrent - at this point your client should check through the files and realize you already have 100% and the client should go into seeding instead of continuing to download everything anew.

however, at least i've noticed that this doesn't always work with all clients. some clients might insist on still starting to re-write everything, even though you have complete files already(!).
so before you try it, make sure you have copies of your complete files first. you wouldn't want to end up having to download it all again.

(ok i hope that wasn't too cryptic, i'm in a hurry right now and have no time to check my spelling etc....)

i hope the other songs from the forthcoming album will be much darker :smth020

it's just a popsong for sure but i like the energy in it.
and at least it makes me totally forget about ross robinson ever interfering the sound of this band - a feeling which i tend to count as a plus side right now.

At the start its kind of like JLH and Elise mixed together, which is a bit disapointing........ but the middle part and the end is actually pretty ace, sounds fresh  8)

Got the go ahead from SZ to upload the show here.  It is uploading now and I will post the link once the upload is complete.  SZ had only one request:

"yes thats fine, as long as people in that community (curefans) will share as well if they tape this year or next. I dont want someone grabbing these shows then finding out 6 months from now the same person is playing rare swop game with a show"

So, in other words, if you grab this, and then tape a show this year or next year, upload it and share it!!! :smth023 :smth023 :smth023

I don't like the new song. Too much of the same. Not innovative. Nothing new.

I like songs like the drowning man, faith, forever, bloodflowers..thats the real Cure for me. Emotional, sad and thrilling.

I think Robert is too happy nowadays :(
And I think Robert has turned from a young musician into a businessman.
Hope the rest of the new album will be the real Cure.

Or i'm getting too old for this...... :?

Well, I can't say I don't like new song because it's really hard to judge having a concert recording only.... but I wasn't impressed by it, to be honest :( The vocal part is lovely though.

I think it's really good actually. The best I've heard lately! I mean, why can't there be any emotions in a song just because it's happy.

you're right, i was also thinking "ok this is elise, they just speeded it up" as i was listening to it at first. 'with or without you' structures once again... but then it does get off the ground a bit, further into the song. so it's not a complete rip off after all.

Megaupload?? Would it be possible to upload it somewhere else, anywhere but there? I am *never* able to download anything from that site. Someone suggested some toolbar or other but it only heavily spammed my system regardless good protection programs I run, just too much trouble with it...I don't know, how about Yousendit.com? And then put the link to uploaded file here.

Alright, for now, Tracks 1-16 are available, as are Tracks 28-31.  I'm sloooooooooowly working on the rest. (For now ignore Track 17- it is showing as 5.3 mb.  That is not correct- if it is around 19-20 mb, then it is the complete file.)

http://www.alettertoelise.org/users/share/Cure%2007-10-6/ (http://www.alettertoelise.org/users/share/Cure%202007-10-6/)

Here's a guide so you can tell whether a file is completely uploaded or not.  If the file on my site shows the size listed below, then it is complete.

17- 19mb
18- 20mb
19- 25mb
20- 27mb
21- 46mb
22- 28mb
23- 44mb
24- 23mb
25- 48mb
26- 19mb
27- 39mb
33- 20mb
34- 21mb
35- 29mb
36- 27mb
37- 49mb

As of right now, all other files are complete.  i am uploading the above from 2 different routes, hoping to speed things up.  I am off to bed...have to be up for work in 6 hours.  Hopefully this entire thing will be uploaded by then!

Thank you for sharing the download concert.

Listening to it I realized that this Cure isn't mine Cure anymore.

It sounds too simple, they sound too old and they can't play the old songs in the way they should sound.

Time to retire?

It's just a recording. The experience to see them live is something totally out of this world. Everytime I listen recordings of the Hamburg 2002 (so far, the only Cure show I saw) I say myself this is not even the half of how they sounded live.

Not even close to time to retire.  This is a relavent, modern sounding Cure.  A bit past their song-writing prime?  Perhaps.  Still a serious force to be reckoned with live?  You bet.

Of course they dont sound like they did before, but i mean who would want them to? Thats whats always made them a a great live band. I mean, personally if they sounded as they did in '87 rather than now, id be more gutted!

I've given it one listen and though it wasn't a song i loved immediatley, i did think that the music sounded nice and the lyrics were upbeat and nice.

it was better than average - it's no Open but after listening to it once only i like it better than half the songs on The Cure... I didn't like Open the first time I heard it but it's in my Top5 and has been for years..

for me i reckon repeated listens will make it come around..

ps thanks to the taper and to J for sharing it.

I agree David yes the recordings are a wonderful way to relive but nothing is like being caught up in the moment of being at a Cure concert. I get emotianal everytime I listen to the Melbourne concert. Too old? Hmmmmmmm I have a problem with the term "old" ( prolly cos I'm pretty close to "the band's?"age ) Somedays we all feel "old" sometimes we feel like "spring chickens". I can only admire the staying power , some songs have been better than others, everyone of us will have different views on each one, but I do know one thing. The happiness I personally have gained from The Cure's music over the past goodness knows how many years could never be measured. Old???????
