Yep, the rumor was correct.  ;)  I'd heard this might be in the works from some people after the Carson Daly show last month.  Good news!  Not sure I'll be making this concert, though.

since they keep dropping by southern cali so much, they should go northern. *sulk*

and look at the lineup - UNBELIEVABLE.

Yeah, SoCal has been getting quite a lot of The Cure lately.  But remember, the Bay Area got Download in '07 and a show during the 4tour.  That's two more shows than some place like Detroit, where they normally play.  They've also skipped New Orleans and the Nashville are recently.  ;)

But hey, since we're on the topic of places we think they should come to, my thinking is they still need to play SEATTLE!  Many fans couldn't make the trip to Sasquatch in the middle of the state.  I had a 4th row ticket!

Fingers crossed for European festivals.

just bought my tickets yesterday, and even though they are astronomically priced, it is still worth it ($117.00 for one ticket). this is the first year that the event is held in april, which is great because it gets so hot out in indio.

i am looking forward to X, perry farrell, the kills, the horrors, and even the yeah yeah yeahs, though i must say, they are not that good live.

oh yeah, i must add that i am incredibly disgusted and shocked that the killers are headlining the second night, and don't be surprised if morrissey cancels hours before he is supposed to go on (happened at the kroq inland invasion in 2004).

I agree 100%. Anywhere in the northwest would be superb. i had i think 13th row tickets for the seattle show. but i was one row closer in san jose :)
I think i'm going to try to get to this one. my mum brought up a good point, tax returns could make this trip possible.

does anybody know if this festival sells out? i assume it doesn't.  looks like a pretty big place.

Most likely, someone will replace the Killers at the top of Saturday. There should be a couple more big adds.

It usually doesn't. It has only sold out in 2004 (Radiohead/Cure/Pixies reunion) and 2007 (Rage reunion), so you should be good for at least a little.

There must be a typo or something. Perhaps the killers are supposed to be headlining at one of the nearby Indian casinos?

you're right haha. when i saw that line-up i was just thinking "they must be incredibly brave (or, slightly... stupid :-P) over there, to sign morrissey (for a headliner)...".
i have an idea for them, how to handle it, how to avoid himm cancelling on the very last minute and embarrass them all:
they should just change the line-ups and put the cure and morrisey on a same day: the cure would headline and morrissey be second or third in the bill. then he would cancel with certainty (and well in advance :D).

I believe Sir Paul McCartney is headlining night one.  ;)

I might be going to night 3.  We'll see.  I'm up for a promotion at work, which if I get I'd have to move to Portland.  The move would conflict with Coachella.  I've already booked a hotel just in case I don't get the job.  :P

Yeah going to LA in december put me in the hole.
I think I have like $45 right now.
Plus no one wants to go with me.
I'm sad.
Hope everyone who goes has lots of fun.

Paul McCartney is headlining that day, not Morrissey.

And it's extremely likely that The Chemical Brothers will be announced as the true headliner for Saturday.  Though, quite frankly, The Killers are big enough in the US to headline the day just fine.

no, everything is general admission. parking lot opens at 9am, doors at 11. unlike when the cure played at the inland invasion in 2003, those who get there early when the doors open actually have a chance of getting close to the main stage.  :smth023

please remember to bring sunscreen and a hat. i made the mistake of not bringing either when i saw the cure and was in the sun from 11am to whenever the sun went down. i had recently shaved my head and lemme tell u, a sun burnt, blistered noggin' is not fun.  this is what i looked like and felt----> :smth011

hi there, i have sort of a lame idea for a game to play with the upcoming coachella and vegas shows.

cure fans try and come up with the set list for each show, or just one, and the member who is closest to the actual set wins i dunno, 10 karma points or an upgraded cure fan status? of course, this all depends if the moderators agree to these terms. maybe 10 karma points for the member closest to the actual setlist, and an upgraded status for the member who guesses/comes the closest the correct order of songs?

Reactions after the show

(from coachella.com)

THE BEST CURE SHOW I HAVE EVER BEEN TO :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

setlist aside, robert and the gang have never sounded so good. robert's energy was so high, and his voice was SO STRONG. i have never seen the boys like this.

i was about 50 feet from the stage, leaning against the first barrier, yet my camera was giving me problems. i imagine it fried in the 100 degree weather, but i will try and post as many pics as possible, no matter the quality. i am sure there will be plenty of pics anyway.

every song was epic! i have never heard shake dog shake the way i did last night. it was hard, it was audible, it was crisp, it was scary!!!

fire in cairo was a nice surprise because i had never heard that before.

the day was awesome, but it was especially cool to hear tahitian moon by perry farrell, lol. also, the yeah yeah yeah's were pretty good. my bloody valentine sucked and almost ruined the vibe for the cure.

ok, i got in at 3:30 this morning and have to be at work in a hour. i will post more later on.

u guys missed one hell of a show :!: :!: :!:

Although its a bit stupid that Paul Mccartney played longer and they didn't pull the plug on him. So he was in the Beatles but its not The Beatles.
Anyway that ending was so punk! :smth035 AMAZING!

Long live The Cure!!! :rocker

Legendary is the word!! That last encore was just epic. When the crowd kept singing along I had CHILLS and that wasn't easy after such a hot day.
I was there all day long against the rail in so I could be right in front of Robert by the time the Cure came on and even though I thought I might die from the heat it was all so worth it in the end. What a NIGHT!!!

Plug has been pulled

The reason:

"Once the clock strikes 12:01 a.m., the charge is $1,000 per minute, said Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron. He estimated that McCartney went "50-plus" minutes after the music curfew"

"Sunday night headliners the Cure didn't get the same extended treatment as McCartney. Sound on the band's set was eventually cut off, even as the act continued to play. Ultimately, the Cure went 33 minutes past curfew, Guitron said."

I was a bit worried earlier when I heard the band seemed to be in a bad mood or something after Vegas, but it was probably nothing. I didn't look into it.

I am splitting his one mp3 file into separate tracks. if you want to wait a little longer i suggest downloading that.

-edit-

the tracks have been split up and are available for download at http://www.sendspace.com/file/bd8i7o (http://www.sendspace.com/file/bd8i7o), taper taped in mp3 and so are these files. unfortunately by splitting an mp3 into various mp3s it is a re-encode.

just curious, do you have something with which to split an mp3 track (i've never really found much software with which to do this), or did you go via mp3 > wav (split) > mp3?

unfortunately i did mp3 to mp3 which is a reencode. the taper said he wouldn't be back in Australia until June and until then would he be able to split the wav files. i know such loss quality isn't allowed here, but i just didn't want to listen to the whole thing as a solid mp3.

well i thought you might have done that because that's what always happens if you want to edit mp3s - that's one of the main reasons why taping in mp3s is really not such a good idea, even if one wanted to share the stuff in mp3s. you can't edit anything, not eve add some simple track marks(!).

i think you could just mention the re-encoding there, together with your original post.

so he did record in wav after all, not in mp3s?  any hope he could actually share in wav too then? i'm sure that a lot of people out there would really appreciate that.

hmm perhaps we should combine our efforts, i wonder if we'd have more chances to be heard? ;)

(ok no offense to any coldplay fans  :D personally i just don't get their popularity at all)

well it's ok. i know most people either love or hate them... my sister freaks out when she just hears the first tones of their songs... bad for her cause the rest of my family likes them ;) ( but not as much as i love the cure!!!) :smth049

and to say something on topic: I'd give away my coldplay tickets in a heartbeat if i had the chance to be at coachella!!!!

If anyone took video of the Cure at Coachella, please send me your videos so I can mix them into a dvd of the entire performance synced up with an audio recording of the show.
