"Technically, Penn isn't playing Smith. But dlisted rightly notes the resemblance in the collection of set photos they've posted. I dropped one of the images below, alongside a closeup of the actual Smith. Click it to check out dlisted's full gallery."

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440345/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440345/)
"Cheyenne, a wealthy former rock star (Penn), now bored and jaded in his retirement embarks on a quest to find his father's persecutor, an ex-Nazi war criminal now hiding out in the U.S. Learning his father is close to death, he travels to New York in the hope of being reconciled with him during his final hours, only to arrive too late. Having been estranged for over 30 years, it is only now in death that he learns the true extent of his father's humiliation in Auschwitz at the hands of former SS Officer Aloise Muller - an event he is determined to avenge. So begins a life-altering journey across the heartland of America to track down and confront his father's nemesis. As his quest unfolds, Cheyenne is reawakened by the people he encounters and his journey is transformed into one of reconciliation and self discovery. As his date with destiny arrives and he tracks down Muller, Cheyenne must finally decide if it is redemption he seeks ....or revenge. Starring two time Academy Award winner Sean Penn and marking the much-anticipated English-language debut of acclaimed director Paolo Sorrentino, THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is a gripping examination of a man on the precipice of obsession" Written by Anonymous.
sounds kind of complicated.. could be good though!
'wealthy former rockstar' and then they make him look like robert !!?? mmmhhh weird... they had a lot to choose from.
normally i like penn's performances so let's hope he makes the best of this.
Wow that's different for Penn. Still Robert has my vote :smth023 Anyways movie sounds good may have to check it out.

haha yeah i know what you mean :)
This is ridiculous on so many levels ...
:-D
the movie will be directed by an Italian (from Naples) director : Paolo Sorrentino.
his last movie is "Il Divo".
a good movie indeed.
Sorrentino is a very good director. one of the best "new" italian directors.
that said, the movie will be NOT about Robert Smith but when Sorrentino attended a Cure concert , he was blown away from the performance and decided that the rockstar of the movie he's directing right now should be Robert Smith-likely.
that's it.
it's not Robert Smith but a rockstar who really looks like him.
and, notice...
the pictures of movie-sets are quite different than the final photography in the movie....
:)
Thanks for the info Marco! :smth023
Thanks :smth023 But still ... weird :?
that is quite eerie!
