Of course we can't be 100% sure she's the real Mary (none of us was there, unfortunally! ) but honestly I don't see anything "strange" on it...Mary often goes with her husband during the tours, and probably she accepted this invitation on the radio. ;) Maybe they're laughing just because it's a funny situation! :-D

probably because it's not really her but just someone pretending to be her...
i'd find it rather hard to believe that she'd really be doing that. during all these years she's always stayed out of the spotlight. so i think it's just some kind of a joke. i wouldn't take it so seriously.
can any english speaker write down what the supossed Mary is saying? :smth023

I think its something like this:
Mary: Do i say this now? I hope you enjoy the show tonight. You are listening to the station that lives on the cutting edge of rock 91X. This is Mary
,(not sure what she says here, my man Bobs wife/the mad bobs wife?)Radio guy: Whats your favourite cure record Mary?
Mary: Erm, one of thems Push. They haven't been playing it very often and i think it's brilliant.
(again not sure what shes calling robert - madbob?) would kill me, i shouldn't be here.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was mary actually, there are pictures of her doing a radio interview with roger, and her accent is right - and it matches her voice in Playout when you can hear her talking to Robert about his jumper saying something like "you slept in it" :smth023

'push' hasn't been played very often? hey they play it all the time, literally in every concert... if that really is mary then she doesn't know much about what's going on.
i still don't believe it's really her. but i guess it really doesn't matter to me that much if it is or isn't. just observing. :)

But this was from the early 90's i think. Did they play push often then?
Edit: According to Pictures of You - it was september 12, 1989 - not that that matters, im just putting off writing assignments :D
Again - not sure how often push was played on the prayer tour.

oh i see. thanks for correcting my error (but see, it really looks like i don't care too much because i didn't even check the year. :-P in which case i wonder why i keep posting in this thread :-P).
but no they didn't play that often back then, that's true.

I was sure she said "they

And yes.."this is Mary...Bob's wife" eheh she's so lovely!! :smth050
Neither I see anything surprising here...Mary is not such a famous person...why should anyone imitate her?? :?

We would have to know when the interview took place.
The Cure didn't play Push at all since around 1987 (Kiss me Tour) till the last show with Boris in 1993. In all that period they only played it once in the Prayer Tour.

too bad they quit playing Push, so awesome song. Would love to hear how it sounded during the Wish Tour.
Yeah, looking at the pic I think it's early '90s, too...
I love to hear Mary's voice. I am quite sure this is her.
her voice is so nice. i think she must be a very sweet person
:smth061
Have you ever heard her voice in an interview?
You can find it here in 'Interviews' player '1989 91x Roger & Mary': http://www.birdmadgirl.com/audio/
I think they laugh becuase she says 'This is Mary, your man bob's wife'
btw, they played Push in Lisbon, in 4TOur. i LOOOVE push, so when they started to play it i was like HELL YEAH!
i'd love to meet her... :-D

It's Mary alright. Late 80's I think, some festival, backstage. Push was her favorite song...
I had this for years and if I remember correctly I downloaded it from Curefans posted link, so ... :-D
She sounds like my aunt
That is very cool! Thanks for uploading the sound clip. :smth023 Never heard what she sounds like, not what imagined it would be but still nice
I know for a fact it is MARY. I was there that day. 09/12/1989
I saw her walk in. (I took this photo)
Then I sat in the car to hear the interview on the RADIO before going in for my first CURE concert in SAN DIEGO 1989.
100% Sure - I saw it - I was there. DOUBT is gone.
Here is a link to another pic - during the interview
http://www.picturesofyou.us/photos/87-89/p-89-9-12-91x-mary-roger.htm (http://www.picturesofyou.us/photos/87-89/p-89-9-12-91x-mary-roger.htm)
They used to play the clip of her talking on the radio often in San Diego on 91X...
Thanks autumncure, now everything is clear! :smth023
The voice is definitely Mary. You can hear her speaking in the background [very briefly] on The Cure's Play Out video documentary. If you compare this recording to that footage, you can tell it's Mary.
I think the people in the background laugh just because of the way she says: "This is Mary - your man Bob's wife". She sounds quite nervous and it's just really funny the way she introduces herself like it's no big thing. It's almost like she said: "It's just me - Muggins."
Everyone can clearly tell that she feels uncomfortable. I think they laughed because it was genuinely funny the way her words just rolled out - plus laughter helps break the ice, it takes some of the pressure off.

Correction, they played "Push" only once in 1989, then not again until 1993. That's why Mary says they have NOT been playing it very often.
