Title: Which CD burning software to use
Post by: Yves28 on April 18, 2008, 21:26:49
I was wondering which CD / DVD burning soft would you advice to use.

I'm asking since I'm noticing that Nero makes some mistakes during burning and was thinking of changing of software.

Thanks for your advices !

There are only two programs I know of that allow you to burn with offset correction. For those unfamiliar with this phenomenon, there's a good description here:

In this article there are some links that can help you determine the read and write offsets of your drive.

If you have a Plextor drive, using PlexTools software is the easiest way since the offset correction is automatically configured. Also, it allows you to burn directly from FLAC files without converting them to WAV first:

But if you have a different kind of drive, you need to have Exact Audio Copy to burn with offsets. It's kind of complicated to set up, but it does work:

(make sure to get a version with the CDRDAO package)

Ok, I'm sure some people don't give a damn about burning with the correct offsets. But if you want to make a bit-perfect burn, then it's crucial. Of course, extracting CDs with offset correction is equally important.

However, I must say that I never had problems burning CDs with Nero before I knew about offsets. So hopefully your drive itself isn't to blame!

Thanks Caley !

I will look in this offset stuff. If I understand well, the offset should be at 0 ?!
Thanks
