kroq is being very secretive about when tickets will go on sale. i called the other day and the person i spoke with did not have an answer for me, or possibly were not at liberty to divulge the info. stubhub.com has tickets for sale but they are astronomically priced. your best bet is to be at a computer the second tickets go on sale. best of luck to us all!  :smth023

Have they done CA resident only sales in the past?

Not sure, but to win tix, you have to be a CA resident, and technically, the show is a gift to the listeners (i.e. locals) of the station.  I guess they could theoretically impose that rule, especially if you can only get tix at will call and you therefore need to show a CA I.D. to pick them up.

Yes they did that last year. You had to live in the surrounding counties to buy tickets. They checked your billing address and made you wait 24 hours before they let you print your tickets.
I just hope I can find 2 tickets at a reasonable price.

I was talking with another member here (who shall remain nameless at this point!) and this person brought up an interesting question.  Will they check for CA I.D. at the door?  What happens if you are from Arizona and buy a ticket off of Stubhub?

Hey, remember the '97 Christmas shows that were in support of Galore?  While I don't think it will be THAT good, I'm sure RS will throw in a few gems.  Maybe a few that mention Christmas or snow?  Snakepit, Other Voices, Hey You, Watching Me Fall  :rocker

From wiki:

The Gibson Amphitheatre (formerly Universal Amphitheatre) is a theatre located in Universal City, California, USA. It was originally built in 1972 as an outdoor venue, but was remodeled and converted into an indoor theatre in 1982. It seats up to 6,189 for concerts, including 6,089 chairback seats (3,900 in the main level and 2,189 in the mezzanine). It is the third-largest theatre in California, behind the Shrine Auditorium and Nokia Theatre - two other Los Angeles venues. The theatre is best known for its acoustics and its sightlines, considered the best of any theatre in North America.

According to musewiki.org the set times from last year were as follows:

23:10 - End*
21:55 - Muse
21:05 - Jimmy Eat World
20:30 - Modest Mouse
20:05 - Special Guest (The Killers)
19:30 - The Shins
19:00 - Silversun Pickups
18:30 - Feist
18:00 - Spoon

I doubt they'll be much different this year.  One hour and and fifteen minutes for the headliner (which looks like they probably went past curfew).  12 songs I suppose.

I thought that I saw somewhere that doors open at 4.  If doors open at 4, will they really start 2 hours later?  I would think that they'd start around 5 if that was the case.  Or maybe that is all just wishful thinking.

How long were the '97 Xmas Radio shows?  16-18 songs or so?  90 minutes?  I don't see them playing much longer than that.  Yeah, it's The Cure and normally you'd think they would demand a longer set.  But let's remember this is for charity and they need some publicity.

I'm planning on spending money on broker tickets which bums me out because I have to buy my niece's ticket as well.
Pit tickets are going for over $1,000 a ticket. I love The Cure but for an hour show...ha even for a 3 hour show no way.

If you have a friend that lives in one of those counties, ask to use their address.  Next, go out an get a pre-paid Visa or Amex.  Register it online using the CA address.  Buy tix using the card, then print them   :smth023

I'm flying from Montana just to see this show! God I hope I can get two tickets! My friend in LA is going to try to buy them but I just want to put the word out on this site that if we don't get tickets, I'll be begging.

i hope this is a fabulous show!

Hey Jen, I believe there is a two ticket limit.  The chances of anyone having extras is basically zero.  Best chance is to have your friend be signed into their Ticketmaster account a few minutes before tickets go on sale and hit refresh every few seconds.  If there's a presale I'm sure you'll need a password.  Best thing to do there is copy it so that all you'll have to do is paste it in the box.  I think it's quicker than typing AND there's no chance of getting it wrong  ;)  You're friend is going to have to navigate the page very quickly as this show will sell out in probably a minute.    Good luck!  :smth023

I was told from someone I'll have 2 tickets at will call for us but I'm nervous he won't pull through and I'll just sit outside all night.

That would probably be unfeasible because there are too many id's to check, and as well, how do they know a friend/relative didn't give you the tickets as a gift?

So is that how they are controlling who is eligible to buy tix- by your address listed on your KROQ street team registration?  Or will they actually check the cc billing address?  I guess one could argue that your billing address is not indicitive of your physical address.  For instance, what happens if you go to school at UCLA, but your parents in West Virginia pay the credit card bill?  West Virginia may be your billing address, but you live in LA... just a thought.

I've never understood the double fees from TM.

$11.55 ticketmaster fee
$3.40 per order ticketmaster processing fee

:smth017

Why not just combine the two?

Okay, I get that the first one is per ticket and the second is per order, but still.  It's two fees from the same company!

Furthermore, if this is supposed to be a show for the fans and one designed to avoid scalping, why are they going with TM?  It's well known that TM is partnered up with ticket brokers.

reminds me of some customs policies:  let's say you've ordered something online, something that's a bit more valuable. you wait for your package to arrive by mail but instead, you receive a note form the customs - a happy day! first you need to pay value added tax for the value of the goods themselves (the percentage depends on the goods in question, it's usually something a bit over 20%). then they deduct the same percentage from the postage costs you've had to pay (which i personally find pretty annoying/insane: you already had to pay extra in order to get the goods delivered to you - and then they tax you for it? come on). after this come the actual customs duties, based on some tariffs (i don't know what exactly, don't ask me). and after all this, you still might have to pay some additional duty and/or excise duty, again depending on the goods in question.

in all, it's like four or five different sorts of taxes/fees/something.
and the end result is the same: even if you might have thought you made some bargain buy, they'll rip you off for sure. (http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/2000_.gif)

Ticketmaster will do a sweep of addresses & credit cards purchasing tickets so if more than one person purchases on the same card or address, only one order will be processed.  We do this so more people can go to the show.

So looks like you cannot use a friend's address if they are going to the show too.

My contact backed out on me this morning so I'm ticketless yet again.

Scalper prices dropped  drastically too now that the night 1 tix are all over tixnow and ebay, so i guess ill be in either way!

i dunno crowbi, the cure took the stage at 10:15 when i saw them at the kroq inland invasion back in 2003 and that set was over two hours. actually, that was one of my favorite shows  (behind the hollywood bowl show in May) with classics such as the figurehead, primary, a strange day, fascination street, the kiss, and want being played.  :smth020

" The Gibson Amphitheater is a great experience, with no curfew, no sound restrictions, and no seat more than 150 feet from the stage. "

We'll see what happens, that's not to say the radio station hasn't given them a time restriction however.

Not to bag on Muse (have seen them twice and regard them as one of the best newer bands to come along) but they are by no means as big as The Cure, and thus, were probably not expected/anticipated/obligated to perform longer than an hour. With The Cure, we are in the midst of rock gods who probably had some sort of influence on the bands performing at the acoustic Christmas (hell, i saw the lead singer from AFI at The Cure show in Hollywood) and though a three hour set like the one's at the 4-tour would be great, I am confident that we will not be disappointed.  8)

sullen - I got an email early this afternoon telling me I can print my tickets.

minisuperjennifer  - my niece and I were on 2 different computers and both of us mispelled the security word and it said no available tickets so we went back and did 1 at a time and pulled up decent seats. I hate having to sit by myself but at least I'm there.

jbud1980 - Muse is my second fav band behind The Cure and their shows are unreal. I've seen them in a basement up to Wembley Stadium but they aren't known to put on very long shows. They probably headline with an hour and half.

one pat down line and that's it. many people had personal cameras at the pumpkins show, and i am still kicking my self in the a** for not bringing mine because i was in the pit.  :smth011

i commuted from huntington beach, about 30 miles south of the venue, yet it took two hours to get there. perhaps it was because the show was on a wednesday night and we had to deal with rush hour traffic.

I nominate tonight's show as the lamest Cure show EVER.  Anyone second that motion?

After 2 or 3 songs in, the place was already 25% empty.  By the time the crappy old school encore came, the place was close to half empty.  Special guest tonight...Kanye West.  Yay.  Now my life is complete.

On a positive note, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand sounded fantastic.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the setlist was, "Did they forget they released a new album?"

Sure, I expected this to be a poppy set being a festival show and all, but this was about as bland as you could possibly get. And Pictures of You really isn't something that's going to captivate a lukewarm audience either, especially since that song lost its luster in a live setting over 10 years ago...

For a moment I thought having the secret show the night before was a nice consolation, but then I remembered that only about 200 "regular fans" actually got to see this. :?

In the end, I'm simply puzzled by all this.

I also felt that Robert mailed in the vocals all night.  No power to the vocals at all.  The clown of the show was the guy behind me...as the band was walking on stage, he kept yelling "Underneath the Sky!".  Genius.  Absolute Genius.

Here here. What a shitty show indeed.  :smth011  And seriously, I'm not just saying that because the Troubadour was f*cking excellent.  Tonight was bad.  Bad song selection, vocals, tuning, over all performance.  There was no energy from the guys.  No magic.  The one thing I like was having the mystery of wondering what the closer would be.  I really wasn't sure because they opened with POY.  So, the element of surprise was there.  For the life of me I can't understand why they would play alt.end and TEOTW.  Those songs didn't do anything in the States.  Why not play some album tracks from the new record?  Also, they had to know they weren't going to top The Killers, so why not play some obscure tracks for the die-hards that stuck around?  What a let down tonight was.  I feel bad for those that only saw tonight's show.  It was a great weekend, one of the best of my life.  But damn, I feel worse than I did after seeing the Antwerp show which followed PARIS!

Nice to have finally met j  (and Mike Tyson!, or at least see him).  :smth023  Lostflower4, you are next  ;)

The rain ruined my evening....
Whatever folks I love Kayne. He was in the same room as me but he scares me too much for me to say hello.

The show itself was good. Perfect Boy, which I normally love, was lifeless tonight.
My niece and I were standing on the stairs in the second level just so we could jam out together (my seats were good but on the other side of venue) and 3 songs in some guy handed us orch 8 row DD which was an amaaaazing view.
This was my first Cure show not hearing 100 years and FTEOTDGS.

I got to meet Simon which was both pretty cool and extremely awkward.

Gwen Stefani ran by anyone notice? Tom Morello, Seth Green, Courtnet Love, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, the singer of Rancid, all of No Doubt, and a girl from the MTV show The Hills were all there.

having to see/hear johnny borrell butchering 'boys don't cry' was lame and seeing robert's expression as he was watching borrell was painful.
but imo the real live part of that gig (the cure playing the cure) wasn't lame.
the webcast today indeed sounded a lot more uninspired than that.

by the way alt.end had some pre-recorded backing track which doesn't work at all (just like in the case of'push').
now i'm wondering whether it was a new one(?) or i'm just demented and just never really registered that before, just because if one tends to try and ignore annoying things...

i completely agree, the audience ruined it. yeah, let's all stand up for craptacular bands like the killers and death cab, but when The Cure come on, let's not only sit down, but leave. i left as soon as kanye west (had to ask the guy behind me who the hell this person was) came on, but luckily, you are able to leave the venue to go outside and ponder why in god's name someone who is not even played on kroq would be the special guest. i guess they needed something else besides the killers and paramore to appease the posers/follwers. on a positive note, snow patrol was really good, and i may actually look into some of their music.

as for The Cure, his voice sounded so-so, they started 25 minutes late, the setlist was way too predictable, and i kept getting distracted by the people who were leaving early. i mean, yeah, it's a work night for us all, but c'mon, it's The Cure. I got home at 1am and was up 5 hours later for work.  :smth023 A Forest sounded great, and I really did like the old school encore instead of more radio friendly songs. Killing an Arab was great.

Yup...In bed around 1:30am, up at 5:30 so I could make a 10:30am flight out of LAX.  I knew traffic would be bad on the 405, but the pouring rain made it worse.  Kind of ridiculous I got up 5 hours before my flight, but it took me almost 2 hours to get to the airport!

I didn't notice anything wrong with the show.  I thought it was a nice performance.  Of course, I was distracted by all those "Simon's thights" camera shots, so maybe I missed something?  :smth017

I take it the video being shown inside the Gibson was the same as the webcast.  The lighting from my vantage point pretty much made it impossible to see Simon unless he was moving towards Robert.  Everytime I looked up at one of the screens to see Simon doing his thing, there was his crotch!  I don't think the cameraman ever did zoom away from his mid-section.

it really must have been a pretty boring show because everyone seems to had plenty of time to concentrate on celebrity spotting...

too bad that an uninspired gig got webcast. :/
i hope everyone had good time otherwise, though.  ;)

I didn't see those people in the crowd only Gwen.
ohh Tim Burton and Helena were there too.

I noticed the shots of Simon's lower half on the big screens. Very strange cameraman.

That is one of a very few pics that I took where you can actually see his face.  I was on Simon's side and ran into the same problem as crowbi_wan.  They had bright lights to the side of Porl and Simon.  Most of the pics I took of Robert or Porl were drowned out by the lights by Porl, and the ones next to Simon whited out his face.  I must have taken 10 pics in succession just trying to time when the light would quickly turn off so I could get a shot.

I was there for the show, it was ok, I was looking forward to hearing alot of 4:13 dream, and they did just 2 songs from it. Alot of people started to leave, I thought it was kind of strange, but It worked out great for me, for I was able to get 3 rows from the pit right in front of simon, Porl and Robert looked tired, probably from the night before, Simon carried this show that night, full of energy, Hopefully the next time the come her to play it will be alot of 4:13 dream and some other older songs that never get played live, I will give it a 7 out of 10 ;)

Yeah, I pretty much agree. I saw the Troub show, ACX and the disastrous Kimmel show. Wrote about it all at http://www.thecure.com/forum/default.aspx?cid=621&tid=305344

Thanks for the rundown of your weekend. I wrote one out on my livejournal but it is inappropriate. haha

I got some backstage wristbands from some guy and while everyone was watching Franz Ferdinand him and Keith U walked by waved and came back a bit later. He mentioned how he knows me and how we met before, which was 4 years ago. Then we kind of just stood there in silence and he said he didn't want to disturb me anymore etc. and left. Came back later in the night and stood arm to arm with me and didn't say a word, stared off into space for 10 minutes. It was awkward because I didn't expect him to come up to me to say hello so I was basically mute and he probably thinks I'm a freak.
I know that probably doesn't sound so bad.

no point in taking my camera when in the mezzanine section. i was mainly outside for most of the show sans snow patrol, paramore (buddy wanted to see them) and the cure, mingling with concert go-ers. i did have a long, interesting conversation with a 26 year old, stoned out of his mind, and claiming to be a doctor.

...funny that you mention that because i have seen something similar happen, but with people who have stated on more than one occasion that The Cure has influenced them. Trent Reznor and his entourage brushed passed me @ baby rag dog book, not staying for the encores. as well, the lead singer from AFI stopped selling churros around the same time. Perhaps they didn't want to deal with the the crowds/traffic?  ;)

Because I'm still sick from the Jimmy Kimmel wait in the rain show, I'm going to post my LA 12:08 dream story here. I originally posted it on thecure.com and am finding that forum quite- hmmmm strange to put it nicely.

Intro Dramatico
As soon as I found out The Cure was headlining KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas (ACX), I booked a flight to L.A. Then I found out it was one of the hardest concerts of the year to get into. At only 6,000 seats, with a star-studded lineup, and scalpers clamoring to get a share, tickets went on sale only one day before the show and sold out in less than 10 seconds. The most infuriating thing about ticket sales was when, 10 seconds after sale time, Ticket Master said they were sold out of the regular priced ($80) tickets and immediately directed buyers to their affiliate, Tickets Now, who were selling the same tickets for $200. Isn't that called insider scalping?

Anyhow, in the week leading up to my trip all I had for sure was one ticket to an outdoor mini concert on the Jimmy Kimmel show. (Later to find out that's not such a sure thing after all. But hold on, I'll get to that). The night before my flight, I did manage to buy two tickets for ACX from a 'broker' at $190 a ticket. My husband, a US Olympic snowboard coach, assured me that he was happy I had this distraction while he was working in Italy. But as I drove to the airport, I felt more than a little guilty at the money I had spent on those tickets.

The Troubadour
What a surprise I had in store! Saturday morning I woke up at my friend's house in Mt Washington to find that thecure.com announced a free Myspace super secret concert at the Troubadour that evening in West Hollywood. First come first serve.

My friend, Seonaid dropped me at the Troubadour at 11am. I was the 46th person in line. This was the first time I had ever done anything like this. I had never lined up for a band before nor mingled with so many diehard fans. My first (and lasting) impression of LA Cure fans was a great one. They were self-governing the line with a sharpie number system (that the Troubadour in-fact honored) and were a really fun and welcoming group. I met Blanca, T, and Freddy who were right in front of me. They had driven from Anaheim as soon as they woke up that morning. We hit it off right away. We of course shared our favorite songs and stories about the shows we had been to.  Most of all we shared a common enthusiasm. Wow, I was in my own little Cure- obsessed world and there were other people in it! The LA fans I met embraced this little gal from Montana and I felt right at home! We settled in for what we thought would be nine-hour wait.

Two hours later and with about 200 people in line, the Troubadour handed out sparkly red wristbands for the show. They cut off the line at 150 and sent us on our way. Oh no! I had been holding a spot for Seonaid. No one had expected that they would give away wristbands so early.

West Hollywood. What a trip. The unofficial gay capital of the US was a fun and cheerful place to kill a few hours. I had my pizza handed to me with a show tune and saw a young handsome man walking with a toy dog in a baby sling. Not only is it a gay capital, but it truly is a dog capital as well. I watched as a bull dog garnered the love of every patron of a certain chic café and a Chihuahua ate from his owner's lap.

I met Andrew and Crista on Santa Monica blvd. They gave me hope that my friend, Seonaid would still be able to get a ticket for the show if she waited. Rumors that the Troubadour would issue more wristbands were making their way through the Cure fan text-enabled grapevine. Sho drove back across the city to give it a shot.

Told to return only after 7pm, more and more black-clothed fans began to loiter near the Troubadour the later it got. Sho and I, doing our best to be inconspicuous, ducked into a charismatic Italian restaurant next door and had a couple of drinks. (Sho whiskey, me cappuccino.) There, high on energy, we saw Andrew and Crista and met for the first time, Juan. Juan took my compliment of his Morrissey jacket and pretty soon we were rolling in a full-blown Cure conversation.

Outside we convened with Denise and her 11-year-old daughter, Emily. At about 6:30 we got as close as the over bearing bouncers would let us. Then at 7 on the dot, people dashed from all corners of Santa Monica and Doheny to line up. We stood there in anticipation of the Cure event of a lifetime. The energy was palpable.

At this point in the story, I have to leave my friend Seonaid behind. Yes, just as I had to do so at the gates of the Troubadour. Sho and so many other wristband-less fans got shut down and threatened with arrest. Fans were not happy as they watched VIP rock stars and their model girlfriends stroll in past them. I went in with T, Freddy and Blanca and we staked our claim at far stage right: in front of Porl's position. I was so amazed at how close I was that I took pictures of his pedals. I was so close, I was smooshed up to the stage and my hands were on his inputs (oh that sounds weird) but I'm an audio geek and I couldn't help but think of the havoc I could wreck there.

Thank you Mr. Bouncer Steve (who had never heard of the Cure before) for letting me keep my super special spot right under Porl's nose. I was so close I had to lean back when he really jammed out – I could have gotten a black eye from his guitar or knee! They opened with Underneath the Stars and gave old favorites like 10:15 Saturday Night, Pictures of You, Friday I'm in Love, Killing and Arab, Boys Don't Cry, Without You, and Just Like Heaven a rocking kick. Robert danced playfully to Lullaby. The crowd raised their arms to Elise's 'hands in the sky, surrenders it all' (I thought I was special when I was the only one who did that in the pit at Sasquatch).

But I didn't cease to feel special the entire night at the Troubadour. They played a full set and they were amazing! Seriously, when was the last time they played a venue this intimate? There were about 150 of us normal folk and 150 VIP rock stars (who the rest of us could care less about even though they included the likes of Kirsten Dunst and Leo DiCap.) I danced my butt off right under Porl's feet, and it felt like at times he played to me. (Ah, isn't that how we all feel?) Everyone was totally blissed out: Blanca, Juan, Denise almost cried... Andrew and Crista had a "Do the Hanza" sign that made the Getty website and made Porl laugh.

They played two encores and at the start of the first (are you ready folks?) I gave Porl a rose. The moment that he took it from my hand felt like an eternity burned into my memory. I had attached a note about a secret artistic project that I want to do with their music. In the end I felt silly about pitching an idea that way- like a love struck fan;)

Robert's nephew videoed from the stage. What a cute kid. He seemed to be having a great time! Eventually this ecstatic experience had to come to an end. New friends, T, Blanca and Freddy went out of their way to drive me to Seonaid's home (see what I mean about LA Cure fans?). I couldn't fall asleep for an hour and I was wide-awake in the morning with the same excitement!

ACX
So, it was Saturday, the day of the big Almost Acoustic Christmas concert and I was feeling hung over with joy from the concert of a lifetime. To be honest, I got spoiled. Sho and I found our $190 seats to be not so intimate. Granted, it was closer than a convention center but now my perspective has been skewed.

This was the neither Acoustic nor Christmas lineup.

6:00 Vampire Weekend (what in the world does that 60s style prep boy pop have to do with vampires?) 6:30 Snow Patrol (if only their music rocked like their dance moves) 7:00 Scott Weiland (plowed over self-indulgent front man from STP) 7:30 Franz Ferdinand (now we're talking!) 8:00 Their surprise guest was...... Kanye West. I had no idea who he was. Sho told me his name and I thought she said Conde Nast. Not only does he destroy his vocals with Cher-esque reverb distortion, he exploited Korean traditional drumming by pairing it with Blue Man Group stoicism. Anyhow, hip pop. Whatever. 8:30 Paramore (she really could be doing something better with that voice). 9:00 Death Cab for Cutie (always fabulous live!) 9:30 The Killers (a showy hit-filled performance. Bringing back the 80s keys) and 10:00 The Cure.

Their set was similar but shorter than the previous night's. All the big hits, rocked out by their latest powerful lineup. Juan was just a few rows in front of us having a great time. We eventually joined him and danced out the rest of the night. Emails and phone numbers exchanged, I have a feeling I'll see him again....

Jimmy Kimmel extravaganza Part one waiting for the band
Monday morning. 8:30am I hit the road with Sho to her workplace in Burbank. I tried to sleep in the car in the parking garage but, heck I was so close to so many exciting things I couldn't sleep. Taxi, metro, Hollywood. I went to a three-story vintage clothing store that had everything you could ever need for a costume! And then Amoeba records, the famous enormous music store on Sunset blvd. I got some great deals on some cds, got caffeinated and at 3:30 headed to the Jimmy Kimmel outdoor show. The official arrival time was 6:15 but with this crowd, you don't take chances and I'm glad I didn't.
3:30 I won't say exactly where I was, but I was hanging with Andrew and Crista and a couple of guys outside waiting for the band to show up. One of the guys when telling me his name asked me which name I would remember Beaver or.... Something else. I told him it was the second, but now its obvious which one I remembered.

This was so fun! Seriously, I've never done anything like this and I'm glad I've had the chance to experience it. We stood around in the drizzling rain for three hours and laughed the time away. A friend of mine asked me if Cure fans were melancholy... not the ones in LA! The best part was being able to make fun of ourselves while we defended our turf. I also had a run in with some serious mud on my way to a port-a-potty that destroyed my shoes and almost put me on my ass.

At 5:00 the band showed up. We were behaved and didn't go past Peggy, the security guard. That is everyone but Beaver. Beaver looks like your average straight dude yet he had with him a pink ruffled parasol for the rain. When The Cure showed up, he bolted for them, pink parasol over his shoulder. We feared security would tackle him. He must have realized the wind drag was slowing him down because he let the parasol go and it fell into a puddle. How funny and sad it looked laying in the rainy streetlight.

Robert came out of his car wearing sunglasses! How dreary! None of us met the band but we appreciated our glimpse and the scene with the parasol!

Jimmy Kimmel Part deux and finale

Back to the concert line. It was now pouring rain and we got drenched, hungry and cold. The crew did sound check on the outdoor stage. 6:30 An army of security guards marched towards the crowd of 300 and we knew something was amiss. They had just decided to move the concert indoors but that meant that only the first 100 of us could go in! I was lucky to be in the first 30.

After the 100th person in line, it was not a pretty sight. Diehard Cure fans are tenacious and feel their disappointment deeply. There were tears and anger and frustration and just the overall dismay of people getting thrown out. I would have hated to be the one who made that decision. Especially, because the sky cleared up immediately when they started to move the stage. It would have been a beautiful outdoor show.

8:00 treated like children in boarding school, the fortunate 100 were marched to Hollywood blvd to await entry to the indoor show. Little did we know we had another 1½ hour to wait! But that did not stop us from having a good time. We spent the entire time singing. New friends Wayne, Miguel and Jackie chimed in with Andrew, Crista and I. We started out with our favorite Cure numbers, quickly going through Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Interpol, Motown, The Little Mermaid, hip-pop, La Bomba and finally Christmas songs. We were even taking requests from the security guards and would pick certain songs we thought the pedestrians would like.

9:30 OMG are they ever going to let us in? Moving through a metal detector, I heard that they were cutting the crowd off at 50. How awful for the second half of the crowd that had now waited over 5 hours! They didn't even get to see the show.

I found my spot in front of Porl again and was right up against the rope between the crowd and the entryway for the band. Whoever that jackass is who warms up the crowd for the Kimmel show came on stage and tried to entertain us. First of all, Cure fans do not need to get fluffed by some corny, bald fat white dude in a suit. Second of all, he had no idea how many people just got turned away drenched, cold and disappointed.

The band came out and I waved at Porl. He recognized me and gave me a wave!!! The rest of the band slid past, avoiding grasping hands. One woman behind me grabbed Robert's wrist and got thrown out. The camera crane swooped over us. Steady cams tracked the band and they played... The Hungry Ghost, Freakshow, Lets Go to Bed, Close to Me, Why Can't I be You, Boys Don't Cry, JSET, Grinding Halt, 10:15 Saturday Night, and Killing Another. (I guess that's what they are calling it now. I don't blame them.) Although it was very cool to see them for a third night in a row, they didn't sound as good on this studio stage and the band seemed bummed. I think they wanted to play the outdoor show. I wonder if they knew how many fans were turned away.

On their way out, Porl shook my hand! I thanked Simon for the show. In return I got a long intense look. That's one of the highlights of my trip. Other things from the weekend that left an impression... gals and guys yelling "I love you Robert;" the game between huffy bouncers and tenacious fans; pink parasol in a puddle; the woman that came further than I did (from Italy) and spent the last four days camped out at venues, the fabulously huge community of Latino Cure fans, three new friends Wayne, Jackie and Miguel who walked me from the metro to the taxis in Union station, and a nearly endless string of laughter (laughter through the drear- oh my). Thank you Simon, Porl, Robert and Jason for an unforgettable 12:08 Los Angeles Dream. Thank you Cure fans for being so.... You!

thanks for the review minisuperjennifer.
The Gibson amp only holds a little over 6,000 actually I think.

Speaking of all the "celebs" at the Troubadour show...As I was entering the club this rude security stopped me to let his VIP band people in. A neverending line.
Inside the club the security kid that they put on our side of the stage made me want to punch him in the head. The Cure's people came by and told him to stop leaning back onto Simon's bass and to scoot to the right to get out of the light. He flips out and starts ranting about how he f-ing hated The Cure on and on and he eventually said screw it and left. Thank goodness his face was depressing me.
Glad you got a nice one on your side.

I originally posted it on thecure.com and am finding that forum quite- hmmmm strange to put it nicely.

No need to put it nicely.  The forum on the official site is a big ol' mess.  There's absolutely no organization to it at all!

I wasn't able to attend the Kimmel taping.  Had to be back for work that day.  However, I did experience some of the cold and wet weather you had to endure throughout the day.  Traffic to the airport was a real mess!
