2007.05.22

Having just finished some amazing European shows-- including a stellar performance at Koko in London last Tuesday night-- Interpol is very excited and gearing up for their third release, Our Love to Admire.

Here's an exclusive first look at the album artwork (see below), featuring a scene in which a lion and lioness take down a gazelle in an act of synchronized predation. The album cover was shot by photographer Seth Smoot and designed by David Calderley.

The first single to be released from the album is the twisted love song/ode to Cali "The Heinrich Maneuver." Interpol is teaming up with Elias Merhige --best known for his work with "Shadow of the Vampire" and the cult-classic Nosferatu"-- to shoot the video for this single.

Our Love to Admire will be available on Capitol on July 10th in the US and on July 9th internationally.

You suck.  They are playing about an hour and a half from me (Atlantic City), but it just so happens to be the same friggin' day that I am going to see the Police in Hershey....

Bummer man.  Well, I'll be bringing my gear.  :smth020

Going to The Police, huh?  I'm going to the 2nd Seattle show.  My seat isn't so great, but I wasn't going to break the bank for Sting.

It surprises me that bands skip some cities.  Do they (or promoters) think that there isn't a high enough demand?  The Cure skipped Seattle in '89 and 2000 for some reason beyond me. But then they played here and Portland, which is smaller market, in '97.  Okay, those '97 shows were radio station deals.  Still, a lot of cities were left out that year.  It probably all boils down to money.

Others in Helsinki:

Motley Crue 04 June
Suicidal Tendencies 13 June (I wouldn't mind that one!)
Neville Brothers 05 August
Jerry Lee Lewis 27 August

And I like old Police...and am not a fan of Sting at all (mainly his solo junk).  I have 10th row for the show in Hershey and will be bringing my gear.  I recorded a show from the same section, 4 rows behind where I am and it turned out really well.

i think finland must have the shittest promoters of them all, or something. for instance, that george michael gig was settled on the olympic stadium - that's like 40 000 - 50 000 people... i mean, come on! because i can assure that george michael really isn't that big around here - so wtf were they thinking? who the f*ck wants to see george michael... especially in 2007?
and there's even proof for that: i think they recently announced that the gig will be removed from the stadium, to a smaller venue... so go figure.
it probably boils down to the money, in some shitty ways. anyway, these complete crap choices just keep coming here year after year after year. so i'm convinced that the promoters are also complete idiots, they live somewhere in the early 90s or something with they choices. or in 70s. or whatever. if they really wanted to make money they'd have some brains and they'd try to lure in something that's reasonable TODAY.

luckily there are some festivals that do manage to draw some genuinely interesting artists here, but they have limited amount of money to spend so it's one or two interesting acts per year. the "big" acts that stop by outside the festival season and play stadium/larger venue shows are always something utterly crappy. i don't get it...

oh yes.... i hope you're having a good time laughing it all up now... :(

i just can't stand sting in any forms - even police has too much sting in it.
so no thanks for me!

Awesome!  I already brought up the Tone Loc concert.  Caley, would you like to borrow my gear for this one?  I think it's Mr. Loc's only performance.

Funky Cold Medina
Tone Loc   :rocker :rocker :rocker :rocker

Cold coolin' at a bar, and I'm lookin' for some action
But like Mick Jaggar said, "I can't get no satisfaction"
The girls are all around, but none of them want to get with me
My threds are fresh and I'm looking def
Yo, what's up with L-O-C?
The girls I saw jokin' at the other end of the bar
Havin' drinks with some no-name chump
When they know that I'm the star
So I got up and strolled over to the other side of the cantina
I asked the guy, "Why you so fly?"
He said, "Funky Cold Medina"

Funky Cold Medina

This brother told me a secret on how to get more chicks
Put a little Medina in your glass
And the girls will come real quick
It's better than any alcohol or aphrodisiac
A couple of sips of this love potion and she'll be on your lap
So I gave some to my dog, when he began to beg
Then he licked his bowl and he looked at me
And did the Wild Thing on my leg
He used to scratch and bite me
Before he was much, much meaner
But now all the poodles run to my house
For the Funky cold Medina

You know what I'm sayin'? I got every dog in my neighborhood
Breakin' down my door, I got Spuds McKenzie, Alex from Stroh's
They won't leave my dog alone with that Medina, pal

I went up to this girl, she said, "Hi, my name is Sheena"
I thought she'd be good to go with a little Funky cold Medina
She said, "I'd like a drink, " I said OK, I'd go get it
Then a couple of sips, she sold licked her lips
And I knew that she was with it
So I took her to my crib, and everything went well as planned
But when she got undressed, it was a big old mess
Sheena was a man
So I threw him out, I don't fool around
With in Oscar Meyer weiner
You must be sure that your girl is pure
For the Funky Cold Medina
You know, ain't no playin' with a man
This is the 80's and I'm down with the ladies, ya know?

Break it down

Back in the saddle, lookin' for a little affection
I took a shot as a contestant on the Love Connection
The audience voted and you know they picked a winner
I took my date to the Hilton for Medina and some dinner
She had a few drinks, I'm thinkin' soon what I'll be gettin'
Instead she started talkin' about plans for a weddin'
Said wait, slow down, love, not so fast, says "I'll be seein' ya"
That's why I found you don't play around
With the Funky Cold Medina
Ya know what I'm sayin', that Medina's a monster, y'all
Funky Cold Medina

Like the Ilosaarirock Festival, yes?  I knew HIM would be playing somewhere in Finland this summer.  Porcupine Tree should one act to catch and one that I need to check out.

yes Ilosaarirock is often one of the "possibly interesting" ones. unfortunately it's just a bit far from where i live so it takes some traveling to get there. i'd probably need to rent or loan a car etc. anyway, i'd really like to see porcupine tree so i suppose i need to consider it.
and thankfully it now seems they'll be playing simultaneously with HIM (on another stage) so i don't have to torture myself by seeing HIM.
i can't stand ville valo....!

(i'd recommend checking porcupine tree out -whatever caley's telling you hehe ;)
anyway, beats chris cornell for sure! ;))

Ha.  You know, I never saw this until now. I know you sent me a similar e-mail around this time, but it didn't have all those bands. Actually, it wasn't as bad as you guys make it sound.

I had no idea ICP was playing at the time. I was just going to see them the other day, but screwed up in getting tickets at the last minute. And by the way, I'd rather see them over Interpol any day!  :smth016

Who's goin' chicken huntin'?

ICP? Are you serious? :smth017 :smth078  I'd take any other show on that list over ICP.  Hell, you couldn't pay me to enough to go to one of their shows.  I know we don't always agree on bands, but those guys are pretty horrible.

So what you're saying is that you're not Down With The Clown?

ICP - down with the clown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxd6fVw8qSo&fmt=18#)

And don't have Clown Love?

After canceling a bunch of shows due to the U2 postponement, Interpol have released new tour plans.  Nothing on the west coast, though.  :?  Guess I have to wait until 2011?
