I was scrolling over You Tube the opther day tring to find some great solos by Mr. Smith and by chance I found an early version of "A Forest", played in 1979. The song had totally different lyrics and it was called "At Night" then, but the music is exactly that of "A Forest". Did you know about this?

A curious thing about this version is that Robert already has the basic "skeleton" of his now famous Forest solo, but the playing sounds stiff, it doesn't flow, as if he didn't have the time to develop it properly...

Hey, hanks for the info / links. But are you sure about it being a TV mistake? Cure songs sometimes have different titles in their beginnings (as well as different lyrics, as is the case of "A Forest" on this show)... And sometimes a title is abbandoned and then recovered for a totally different song. It's my guess that it was what happened with this "At Night" / "A Forest" thing, but of course, it could also be a TV mistake or something like that...

But he sing the words "at night" in that song..maybe not just a mistake, maybe it's a pre-version of A Forest..remember Don't Say Anything or Please Project whats all got a different title for the releases..but Robert sometimes changing the words of the songs, wich is good i think (or sometimes just forget it)..anyway i'm happy that he changed the lyrics for the album.
..lost forever in a happy crowd..

He didn't do his famous "This is called..." before the song? I'm pretty sure it's the same thing that happens with all Cure songs, like said before. One rough demo song could end up turning into 2 great Cure songs...  :smth020
