so, it seems there won't be a 2 show in 1 city situation in Europe this time...
bit surprising to me that they book Bercy, though with Robert's confidence regarding US dates + arenas, maybe not surprising...

Thanks for the info! It's quite expensive indeed... My banker won't like it but hey, I've got only one life to live  ;)
I think I'll buy cat 2 tickets... want to be as close as possible... The only pb is that I have to work on wednesday morning  so won't be there too early! I have to think about it all!
Do you think we have to buy tickets quickly?

I think so :o

I dunno exactly but I don't want to risk a chance of getting a seat instead of a place on the floor.
It happened many times before that Cureshows were sold out after just an hour :o

I tend to think it won't sell so fast... it's a large venue and I guess they are not as popular as they used to be... but they haven't played for a long time, there are still many fans out there :)  I'll see what happen tomorrow!

I wonder if they would add a show in Paris if the first one sells well?  18000 is a lot of tickets, so I'm not too sure it will happen.  Maybe it will, maybe another French city.  Either way, I'm going to wait to purchase my plane ticket for a week to see what pans out.

I expect a few more European shows to be announced. Probably another one in the UK (but only if the second Wembley night turns out to be just a site error), and probably another in France. Who knows?

Is it usual for a band to start playing at 19:00? Is this the time they're playing at most shows?

Could be a sign of a longer than usual show, after all.

i wish they had chosen a smaller venue, so then there would be some hope. but now... i'm afraid it's not '89 anymore, they won't fill two consecutive nights on bercy.  :?
a shame though, two gigs in a smaller venue would have certainly been my favorite too.

guys my arrangements are still completely in shambles and will be for some time. i have to wait a bit before booking the flights tickets because i know i'll get them cheaper then.
so if you're not in terrible hurry to book the hotels just yet, please hold on a bit... i'll try to have more info this in the next few days.

11th sounds good as a day for meeting up. i might be there already on 10th but as it is, i'm not sure yet.

There's plenty of time yet, almost half year before the day!

As for the hotel, I know one very good youth hostel close to La Place de la Rebuplique. If this place is not that far from Bercy (someone living in Paris maybe can confirm this), it might be a good option (20 euro per night,  shared rooms -actually I was in a 4-room-people)

In Melbourne, u had to get their hours before, as soon as doors opened and RACE to the front of the"moshpit" in general admittance(standing room). I did not get those tickets, I"m too old for the crush and physically unable to stand for that long, they played 3 hours, u lose ur spot if u need air, go to the toilet etc.., so I got in early to buy best tickets available, right near stage, looking down on the Band, and it was awesome enough!!

I'm thinking about extending my trip by a day since it looks like I'll have more vacation time than I thought.  Now, I could go to the Barcelona gig, but think I'll just arrive in Paris early in order to have more time to see the city.  Tof, you're set to arrive in Paris on 11 March, coming from Barcelona by plane?  Is anyone else thinking of showing up on the 10th?

Seeing the Barcelona show is tempting, but I think I'd like to spend some time in Paris visiting museums and such.  For the U.S. tour I'll get my fill of The Cure.  Thanks for the offer about getting me a ticket, though.

i'm already planning to go to too many gigs anyway and as paris is the last one so far... prepare for me being more or less totally broke while i'm there guys. :P
so please don't pick the fanciest/most expensive restaurants for us to go - or if you do, you have to take care of the bill too hehe  :-D

(crowbi, are you planning to arrive a few days earlier or maybe planning to stay a few days after the gig?)

I'm planning on arriving in Paris (CDG Airport) the morning of March 10th and leaving around noon on the 13th.  My thinking is that if I arrived the day before the concert it wouldn't leave me much time to see some museums and buildings that i'd like to visit.  So, the day I arrive will be busy Brian the tourisrt.  The remainder of my time will be Curefan Brian, which might turn into intoxicated Brian.  Don't worry folk, I'll behave.  Hopefully we can take in a site or two as a group on the 11th for those that are getting in that day.  Or, if we just want to go for dinner/drinks I'm okay with that as well.  And for those pinching their pennies, I'm quite sure we can find some places that will interest everyone.  ;)

Marika, I could change my days and move my tourist day to after the gig, thus making my trip from March 11-14.  What days are you thinking about?

As I told to Tof, it would be great if we can make a party in Paris in someone else's house. It would be awesome.

Now, there's anyone living there and who could "borrow" his flat for a party?. We would help with the cleaning :smth001

I speak about that to my friend who live in Paris but he lives in 30m² so I think it's too small to make a party  :?

Are we talking about a Curefans meting the day before the show?  If no one's home is available, why not just meet at a bar?

Yes, one day before the show would be cool, and maybe then again after the concert  :smth030

A bar is a nice idea, but I would like to see if first we can get a flat or something (where can play our music, and etc.). I don't know, personally I feel home parties are always the best.

well i know it would be easier for me work wise if i arrived for the gig and stayed for a few days. then again, i'd really prefer it the other way round: i'd like to hang around the city before the gig and not after. that would be more fun i think, i always like it more that way round.
so i guess i'm trying to arrange so that i could arrive around 9th/10th and leave around 13th too.
need to secure it yet though.

Cool.  Either way is fine with me, just keep me posted.  My boss already know I plan to take some time off that week and is fine with whatever days I need.

Oh, of course we'll hit a local watering hole for some loudmouth soup after the concert.  That's a given! Drinks will be on Marika!  :P

I see your point about someone's flat (being able to play music that we want and such) and am fine with that if someone wants to allow us the space.  Scatcat kind of said what I was thinking in booking a place or maybe just reserving a room at some establishment if no house/flat is available.  Just someplace small, that would allow us control of the music.

Since Marika is the only lady sleeping with us, let's wait for her booking her flights to have a final confirmation of when to book the hotel?. Anyway, we are not even in december, and trust me, hotel won't be booked out. I remember I booked 2 days before just :P

I have to back Tof her in thinking it would be a good idea to reserve the room.  If we're wanting a room with a specific number of beds we might get burned by waiting.  There's no cost in making a reservation.

As I told to Tof and others before, I know a very good hotel 30' walk from Bercy. Perhaps we will rent now two rooms (for 5 persons each) instead one. Let's wait a bit till january to book?

good idea!!

Yes we must know how many time we will stay, 1, 2 or 3 nights, if there is 5 person who stay 3 nights in Paris I can stay 3 night if it's convenient for you.

One thing is sure, I arrived the 11 march and I must be in Anvers the 14 march and I must take my train ticket 3 month before to have a good price, I think about you David if you want a good price for Orange, take your train ticket soon !!!

indeed, i'm simply worried for the health of anyone trying to accomplish louvre&d-orsay in a single day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stendhal_syndrome

Stendhal Syndrome or Stendhal's Syndrome is a psychosomatic illness that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to art, usually when the art is particularly 'beautiful' or a large amount of art is in a single place.

it's said to be typical for people visiting places like florence (firenze) where a person practically cannot avoid being exposed to massive amounts of art/aesthetic experiences all around...
i suppose places like louvre/d'orsay might qualify too.
...first diagnosed in 1982.

and even if one might manage to escape the stendhal's, then there's also the paris syndrome lurking around the corner...:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome

Exhaustion - finally, it is thought that the over-booking of one's time and energy, whether on a business trip or on holiday, in attempting to cram too much into every moment of a stay in Paris along with the effects of jet-lag all contribute to the psychological destabilisation of some.

we must watch out... paris is starting to sound dangerous...  :smth011

i've been to paris only two times but both times i've skipped visiting louvre altogerther, both times completely consciously. as i know that any sort of reasonable visit would take me several days, to get any sort of "conmprehensive" grasp of the place - so i've decided that maybe it's something i'll try when i'll be staying there for several weeks (that is, if i ever even will) and when i can afford to spend three days of my time in a museum.
what i've liked most on my both visits there was... walking. walking around, miles and miles, just being there. but then again, that's what i always do in a new place, in a new city: i walk around, endlessly. i guess that's just me...

anyway, back to the museums: i'd certainly recommend anyone a visit to the pompidou center. their collection of "classic" 20th century art is pretty mind blowing but not too large to get a good grasp on a single day. personally i consider it one of the best ever art collections/exhibitions i've ever had the chance to visit. i'd probably go there again if given a chance. besides, their collection is partially changing so there's always something new i'm sure.
besides, the building as such is worth a visit anyway, even if you didn't enjoy the art exhibitions:

Stendhal Syndrome sounds pretty cool, hallucinations w/o meds  :smth048 SWEET!  I think I'll speed walk through at least 5 museums in one day making the last stop be some sort of modern art museum.  The modern art museum at the Mall in Washington D.C. is pure shit and I wish I'd have been on drugs as that would have been far more interesting than the crap they called "art".

Seriously though, I'm very interested in visiiting the Louvre.  If it takes all day and I only make it half way through then so be it.  But thank you for the warning.

If anybody is into Modern Art, yes Pompidou center (also known as Beaubourg) is the way to go...

I've been to the Louvre 7 or 8 times. Yes, it's huge, but you can choose which parts you want to visit ! One includes all the Ancient art (Egyptian/Greek/Middle East), another has European 13th-19th century (mainly Italian/French/Dutch) paintings for instance. It can be very crowded after 12pm with people constantly taking pics of the Victory of Samothrace or the "Venus de Milo". Maybe better to get there much earlier in the morning or late afternoon (but only on Wednesdays/Fridays when it stays opened until 10pm).

I was doing some research on things to do in Paris today and found Centre Pompidou at the top of one list...

Paris's high-tech shrine to contemporary art. "Take the escalators up for a free view; the cafés in the square below are expensive but worth it for the best people-watching in Paris."

It could be interesting to visit, though the Louvre is still #1 on my list.  Well, #2 I guess.  Seeing The Cure is #1  :D

indeed, i'd recommend a visit to pompidou center, just to see the building and the view. skip the art exhibition if that's not your thing. the tube-like escalators that run outside the building's main structure are pretty cool.

All this sounds so wonderful! It would be a trip of a lifetime for some of us not so close to France! We went many, many years ago, on our way to Australia, saw a fair bit, but I was only a child... I remember, the family sitting outside of a cafe, my Dad returning with small bottles of "Coke" for us to drink, and him telling us to "Sip it, at those prices, make it last"!!  On TV the other night, "Food lovers guide" to France convinced me I should be there... just the breads and cheeses alone, which are part of the French diet almost every day, made me want to do an "I dream of genie" blink and be right there... enjoy, all you lucky people visiting this beautiful place...please, take lots of photos to show us !!

You can take the RER train from "gare du Nord" to "Gare de Lyon". Then, it seems Bercy is 900 meters away :)

I'm in trouble  :(

I've listened to some bootlegs of this 2008 Tour… and I find this really aproximative… ain't no punch… Robert's voice is not so precise and agressive (100 years) as it should be (have been), Porl's guitar seems sometimes lost in the songs, and i don't speak about this "all guitar for the keyboards" (Fascination street keyboard theme )

A forest is sung to be sung but there's no passion…

I'm afraid to be disappointed…

I'm a curefans from 1987 to today… but I ask myself if this next concert won't be "Le concert de trop" (the toomuch concert).

So I ask myself, why do they do this tour rather than finishing this double album… they have nothing to sell for this tour… it is just for fun… but it looks like there is no fun… no passion anymore.

There's no comparison between seeing The Cure live and listening a bootleg. I listen all the time the Hamburg 2002 gig (the only concert I attended) and it's far, very far from what it was in real, and I'm sure it will be the same this time.

i don't know if it's any consolation (because what suits to one does not suit to other, as we know), but i was also very hesitant and doubtful before stockholm. i didn't feel much excited and didn't know what to expect. i was even afraid it would be a disappointment of some kind.

I had few expectations for Hamburg, but thought they were great. Much better than the festival tour & clearly enjoying themselves. Though i can't afford it, i'm going to goto paris also. If i can't pressgang anyone else into going i may look some of you up. I can't wait to see more. Hopefully still will have a suprise or two up their sleeves. Maccatori

Yes for sure… being at a gig, and listening to a gig is not really the same thing… I'm quiet sure I will definitely like this show but… I'm a little anxious about this.

I don't know why  :smth011 I should be so happy !  :?

believe me...there is nothing...just NOTHING like seeing them live.... you will walk out with your ears ringing and your soul elated....

Really looking forward to this & maybe meet a few people from here. I don't post much, but am annoying my girlfriend with nightly setlist updates. Let me know if anyone is interested.

After 4 years, I am in Paris. The french douane stop me at the airport to check my small bagage -you know, being Peru the second largest exporter of marihuana  they might think I was bringing some to Paris 8)-

But the french people know how to be polite, even when searching your bagagge: "Ok sir, have a nice time in the concert of Robert Smith of The Cure". :-D

Ok, were going to buy some food with Marika. Will keep posting when I can :smth023

So the DVD will be called "2008 '2005 Festivals DVD Tour DVD'" and will have 80% of the same songs with the same lineup. Ill buy it, and Im sure everyone else here will but imagine at looking at these two things on the shelf side by side. It would have almost been better if they left on Plainsong and Disintegration from the 2005 Festivals DVD

Otherwise it's like what EN said.

It would be funny if they did not play How Beautiful You Are tonight with that blantant Paris reference in the lyrics.

Nothing, but it really wasnt part of the 2005 set, even though they put it on the DVD anyway with plainsong...So one of the few "new old" things this tour is plainsong and distintegration back in and open/end on the outs, but it was already on the last DVD

look, im buying it but bearing in mind in a few interviews we have read "I got deadlocked editing the 2005 DVD for 12 months and that sidetracked the new album" from Robert, we either wont see this or the "new" album till 2011. Hope it is a TV thing where Robert has no input on the timing or the editing of it.

This band is in a classic state of paralysis by analysis (this constant remixing and reanalysis 1 cd, 2 cd, etc). Im all for perfection, but sometime you just have to let things roll.

I would bet a large sum of money that
1) the album will not be out by US tour
2) the US setlist will be the valencia setlist (the euro setlist with a half an hour cut out due to 11pm venue curfews here)

Watch them turn around and play the faith encore tonight just to prove me an idiot

no:
Kyoto Song
The walk
Lovesong
Pictures of You

Lullaby
Please project *
How Beautiful You are.

so it is different.

maybe they have superceeded 'faith'.. maybe something new tonight?

I can understand that they may be locked into this as a 'performance' and into producing this DVD, and possibly holding up of the new songs/album.

I accept this.
But nothing compares to being there live.
I just wanna concentrate on that there and now.
Later will come,   :smth020

I was not amused while watching the setlist develop.  In fact, [labyrinth] was updating it through most of the mainset, then I took over.  It got to the point where I already had the next song typed out, waiting for confirmation.  That is not a good thing when they are that predictable.  In fact, if the US shows are going to be like this, I'm not all that excited to see them as many times as I am.  Is it worth all of the airfare I will pay for and the hotel nights, rental cars, etc to hear them play the exact same setlist and the exact same BS encores?

I'm happy for those in attendance tonight that they finally played Faith.  But why couldn't they have ditched that crappy BDC/KAA encore and done the entire Faith encore (Holy hour, Other Voices, Drowning Man, Faith).  Even the Kiss Me encore would have been better.

I would rather hear the '3IB' encore than the 'pop' encore if I had a choice.
Nice they were able to include 3 Imaginary Boys and Fire in Cairo which they haven't played every  night.  I presume they've had great audience response to those 3 encore and so have stuck with them for now

I'm sorry so many of you are disapointed in the setlists. But I would NEVER **** about what they play.  If they played "Jimmy Crack Corn" all night I'd be happy.  Just the thought of seeing them live is enough to get me going.  Hell, most of the songs they play fall into my least favorite list, but I'd still be happy to hear them!

Plus the idea of seeing Simon is always reason enough for me. ;)

I understand what you guys are saying....if you only see them once or a few times every few years, then you are happy with what you get.  However, when you have seen them as many times as I have and will be traveling quite a bit to cover a bunch of US shows, you hope for variety; not the same thing over and over and over.

Imagine going to the theater to see a movie 10 times.  You go in expecting The Godfather and they show you Alvin and the Chipmunks.  Every single time.  Over and over.

Although, I am a bit hypocritical in that if they played the Pornography album in its entirety EVERY time I saw them, I would be VERY happy!

I think relatively few people have the time AND money to follow them around  and would be envious to be in your position even if they are giving the same performance.

I don't quite understand your movie analogy.   OK, in your case you're expecting to see the Cure  and you are getting the Cure. :)  A movie watched over and over will be exactly the same,  but I think each concert may have  different atmosphere, mood, sound,  even with the same songs played.

My feeling is that the US shows will not be identical to the current ones.
Maybe its wishful thinking but i'm expecting more new songs to be played

I understand what J is saying, I just hope that they introduce a little variety in the encores.  As I've said several times, the main sets are okay.  This show in particular seems to be a strong set.

Well that was the 6th time ive seen The Cure live and probably the best...
I like it that they play their old tracks after all thats what made them back in the late 70's early 80's. Im sad that they only play one night here as you never know these days when they will be back..if ever, i mean thay hardly ever do a show in England now. Whatever happens in the future i know that i will cherish the thought of seeing such a great band again for the rest of my days...
Well done The Cure :smth023

In Zürich, for instance, they also had to finish at 11p.m. sharp, they just started playing @8p.m. and did the usual 3hrs show.

Hi guys!

All I can say about this concert is that it was finally a good one. As i told you a few days ago, I wasn't confident in my tolerance of accepting all those pop songs (because like all of you I prefer the old ones). BUT the setlist was finally very intense.

The second Encore could not be there, IMO. (The Lovecats, Let's Go to Bed, Freak Show, Close to Me, Why Can't I Be You?) But Robert looked very decontracted… so it was plaisant.

Their "3IB/BDC" encore was really good, and it's very "sympathique" to hear those songs for real. and I didn't expected for 3IB and Griding halt.

and Faith was really a nice surprise (the solo was not unforgotable but inspiration come and go…)

I've found "To wish impossible things" really nice… I don't especially like this song

There are many things I also didn't like in this concert… Porl playing this crapy guitar/Keybord is just so weird and no plaisant at all. His sound was so "acute(?)"… my ears are dead.  :smth011
The sound was not as good as in 96… until "Pictures of You" it was really bad… then more appreciable.

The Pictures showed behind them (covers) were quiet nice.

So, All I know is that I am not Objective at all with a Cure performance ( Yesterday was my 6th or 7th Cure gig of all my life)… but my brother, older than me, who's not a cure fan at all, found it really cool.

So I'm happy in a way… but this should be the last time i saw them, i Think…  until the next show

PS. Simon is such in a good health, whaow… impressive !

That would be well and good, however, many of the US shows don't start til 7:30 or 8PM, then 65 Days Of **** have to do their set. So, a good amount of nights, they won't get on stage until between 830 and 9pm.

Was thinking the SAME THING last night after this setlist.....
Really dosen't seem worth it anymore to do my usual trek...

If he didn't change things for Berlin, Roma, and Paris,
little chance of any variation in the US sets...

Sets are going to be shorter too with the curfews.

I hope we will see somewhere on another The Cure concert.

for all of you attending other shows - it will be great for sure, even if you know, or you can predict the setlist...

I onder if there had have been the internet in 1989, how much moaning there would've been about setlists. Surprises were few & far between then until the final nights in Wembley, or whenever they played two nights somewhere & tried to do something different as they knew there would be lots of people attending both nights. Maybe there would be a lot more surprises next week if that second date had materialised. They are playing much better on this tour than the festival tour & if they can keep this spirit up, you'll be in for a treat in the US. 42 songs in Paris! No complaints from me. Fantastic!

No dobut we're all spoiled. While The Cure varies their setlist a lot more than many other bands, a lot of previous tours were very predictable (including the Prayer, Wish, and Dream Tours). Yes, there were exceptions to this â€" but there are exceptions now too.

And what about 1987, where they played the EXACT same setlist every night, except for a very few rare occasions? I can imagine the reaction if we all had the internet back then!

But in the end, I'm still sick of hearing this same stuff over and over. It's been done enough in past tours. Heck, I think some of the 2007 shows (especially Mexico) are more interesting than this stuff from 2008. It's like they took a step backwards, setlist-wise.

And I really don't know why they're so scared to play more new songs, especially when they claim there are 30+ of them. They weren't afraid to play the majority of their newest material in the past, so why are they so hesitant now?

Well lets be fair here, The Cure have always played their 'oldies', well in the 6 times ive seen them, its just the way they are and its what the majority of fans want, for example at the Paris show there were many French fans singing along to the well known 'released' songs but they didnt have a clue about other songs they sang from the album.
I guess its just a matter of if it aint ruined then dont change it.

I agree with this. When you first , or eventually hear your favourite song live, nothing compares to it.  :smth023
I have not witnessed/heard the 3 new songs yet-to-be-releaased, and if I did, GOD, I wouldn't know what i was hearing or know it, so of course the crowd would be quiet, listening to it.. bit of a low-point.
The more concerts available, and with new albuw, a few months off, and maybe a new single-or-two, plus with a possibly released NEW album..
magic can happen. :D

By the way, I didn't recognize Wrong Number..
It sounds like crap, I thought it was a new one until I read the setlist...

Nevertheless, they played with energy, good will and pleasure I guess.
Sound problem with the 2 guitars balance and not a very defined sound. I guess the DAT or Edirol would sound much better than the real sound, you'll hear.
but Bercy sounds like a big railway station for many years...

And "La cerise sur le gateau" aka the top of the cream, they played Faith and Robert complained 'FucKK... ' that they were obliged to short cut the last encore. Pity !

they have been cutting off 'proposed' encores for the main european tour.
there was a curfew in OZ. why on earth play with a back-up when they can't/don't want to play full sets?

If this is correct, then it is no wonder  travelling curefans are getting, shall we say 'slightly bored' with the setlists?
It is not a true reflection on the perfomance per se.

QuoteSound problem with the 2 guitars balance and not a very defined sound
That's true… the sound was not very nice. 96' show was much better. And Porl playing the Keyboard parts on his guitar… beurk  :smth011 Hated it !!!!

Reading all your comments there something that makes me laugh… I remember myself reading "Ten Imaginary years" (the book)… reading Robert complaining during the "Faith Tour" that people always wanted "10:15 style" songs and not the new ones.

I think we idealise a little bit this period when they where playing Faith or pornography albums… because we where not there…

As far as I remember, the last 2000 show in paris, was very intense and not "poppy" as 2008… the setlists was for fans, and the new album. My wife hated this Gig… on the contrary It's one of the best I saw

They will never play again entire faith album or 17 seconds… (and most of us were not at the trilogy concert)…

So I take what they give 'cause i think they make it with sincerity… and

As far as I'm concerned, I trully prefer atmospherique songs but I'm finally happy with what I saw wednesday… and Faith is not the only reason. This Faith version was not unbelievable… Robert had problem with his guitar Jack… the solo was not incredible because sometimes Inspiration doesn't come… I think it's the case for this version.

But Robert seemed to want more… that's sure

For those who live in the US, do remember that Robert always thought that when you go for a gig, it's first of all to see a show… so they play more singles than in Europe, where people is more "sensibly receptive" to the Cure darkside (especially in Paris). So I'm really not sure that they will change the setlist for a darker one for the US dates.

Hope for you that i'm mistaken

and nowhere does they sing 'play for today' quite like that (i pity the americans who never get that kind of singing over there!).
the band is in such good modd on stage, i really enjoy seeing them so happy and energetic there. it just warms your heart, to see it.

a big thanks for everyone involved, you know who you all are, it was so good to meet you. :D

haha i used to have exactly the same problem: david = simon with a hat.
(btw for the same reason i'd be a bit afraid of j, if i didn't already know he doesn't exactly look like his avatar...)

some videos from paris:

here's a really short one (just a few seconds) but a clip that that says something about the atmosphere in bercy i think: there were some people crowdsurfing already during 'plainsong'. hey nothing wrong with crowdsurfing, but at least to me 'plainsong' is not exactly the first song that comes to mind when you think about crowdsurfing... ;)

yes, youtube allows better sound - but due to my the format of my original video(?), it somehow manages to make the picture even crappier (if possible). i don't know why.
maybe i can try again over there but last time i uploaded these to youtube the result was worse.
anyway, that's why i said i wish i'd have a way to stream in better quality, as my original files are pretty watchable/decent quality, nothing like this. :?

some of the 2007 shows (especially Mexico) are more interesting than this stuff from 2008. It's like they took a step backwards, setlist-wise.

This has been my complaint since this tour started.
Mexico 07 was so varied, also alot of the good songs
that they played on these 3 nights have been dropped.

Huge step backwards, after I walked out of night three,
i was so excited for 2008, now this happens.......

i'll say what i've said before. i think it's funny how people keep complain about the set list again and again, before they've even seen any single show from this tour. i'd understand it if people were let's say comparing the recordings and on the basis of those came into a conclusion that the performances at this moment are somehow weaker than before. but just comparing the set lists and saying that the shows are poorer now - what's the basis of that? of course a lot of us would love to hear a bunch of real old favorites instead of 'inbetween days' & co. hell, i would love to hear 'a short term effect' if i could choose - but i can't and that's it. at least the band is in top form at the moment - it could be a lot worse than that.

i think it's very clear that the band's level of performance right now is GREATLY higher than it has been for several years. ok maybe mexico 2007 was good too, i'm not saying that - because after all  wasn't there (whether listening to the show or drinking beer or what ever). but still, i cannot agree in people "condemning" the shows now only according to the set lists - set lists are just a piece of paper, there's not MUSIC in the set lists themselves. the music has to be created... and how they manage in that is what interests me.

i don't go to a cure show to just hear 'just like heaven' or 'boys don't cry', but i don't go there hoping to hear 'funeral party' or 'give me it' either just so that i can walk out of there disappointed: i go there to hopefully hear good performance from a bunch of great musicians. that's what matters most. if they choose to play 'wrong number' now then they choose to play it - but at least they deliver a damn good performance of it.

and moreover, people who complain about the set lists again and again: i wonder why doesn't anyone complain about prayer tour or wish tour set lists today? or kissing tour? no. everyone just talks about those as "classic shows", good old times etc etc. great great great. but just one look at the set lists from let's say kissing tour and everyone notices that the set lists were a LOT more static then than they are now.
so...

and if someone should say "i don't want to go to see this band now, they don't play songs for my taste", then it's fine, i don't have a problem with that. we all have our most favorite tunes and our most hated, me just like everyone else. there's nothing wrong in hoping to hear certian things instead certian others.
but to keep hinting that the current situation is somehow "hopeless" because of the set lists alone contain this or don't contain that -  it makes no sense to me.
go to see the band. if you still don't like it or are not impressed, then fine. nothing bad with that.

also, i'd hope people talked about the recordings instead, compared the performances and so on. you can have two identical set lists for two shows but still it's possible that  one show was superb and the other one was crap - so what made it that way? it can't be the set list, there's got to be something else... so why is there so little talk about that "something"? there's heaps of talk about the set lists though...
at least imo, if it's not possible for someone to go to the shows at this time, then i'd say the second best option to find out about the current state of the band is to listen to the recordings, not staring at the set lists. but where's the discussion about the recordings? it doesn't exist... there's mostly only moaning about set lists here and there, all over internet... and then some other people like me here, complaining about people complaining about the set lists... but where's the discussion about the performances, about the music itself? where is it...?

i do respect everyone's opinion but to be honest i am almost starting to find it a bit amusing by now. set lists alone can say nothing about the quality of the performance. they are just pieces of paper.
(they make nice souveniers though, the set lists i mean, if you manage to grab one from the stage/mixing desk. or, you can always sell it on ebay to some crazy collectors who's ready to pay some crazy-assed price - for a piece of paper...)

I've been reading all the reviews, impressions... and I sometimes wonder if we were at the same show! I found it pretty damn good! It was only my third Cure show, so maybe that's why I've enjoyed it so much, you know, not having your critical eye about every single thing...every single detail... I've heard songs that I love and others that I like less but what was the more important for me is the energy the band had and all the emotions they gave us! Come on, the atmosphere out there was just fantastic!!!
All these discussions about the setlists are just sooooooo tiring! Are you ever going to other concerts? With other bands? Let me tell you that they don't play totally different setlists every night!!! And they don't play that long either!
I would understand that you complained about the absence of new songs... it would be logical! But being nostalgic all the time... Things are evolving, you can't go against that! What I like the most about the Cure is the different facettes they're offering us, the dark ones as much as the brighter ones... The pop songs (not everything though ;)) and the old ones... Maybe I'm talking this way because I only really discovered the band a few years back and didn't experience these gigs myself... I don't know...  But what I'm sure of is that The Cure is still one of the best bands around, and they can still have us going out of a 3 hours show with wonderful memories in mind... That 3 days after Paris, I'm still thinking about it with a smile on my face...  :smth020

I've posted a few pictures in the gallery... They're not too good but as there were none there, I thought you might wanted to see them anyway!
Hope the ones who met after the show had a good time! I was a bit disappointed not to be able to come but I had to go home (4 hours drive) and work on the next morning! It was nice meeting David though :)

yes crowdsurfing (I finally know the word :D) during the "Plainsong" was something that I did not expect... But it was quite cool - although not for people who were kicked...

I've added some photos to the galery, but I must have done something wrong... and they are not visible... Could any moderator look at it?

sometimes the pics can appear as blank white, if the resolution was too high/the size of the individual files was too big. yet i can't see any such "invisible pics" in the gallery now. let's look into it.

Hello all.  Just got back home, with my luggage  ;)  Good times in Paris and Antwerp.  Nice to meet you all and be able to put a face to a name (or username for some).

Some are probably curious about my recordings.  Paris sounds nice.  I was standing DFC on some tape that looked like it was placed there for someone.  So, why not me?  8)  The only problem was this blue-haired girl (who has been dubbed "the siren") standing behind me (later to my right) REALLY loved her some pop songs.  Quite annoying, then comical.  Her rendition of Friday was fantastique !!!  Tof, JB, and I had a good laugh listening to this.  No, several good laughs   I would've moved, but I really couldn't!  The floor was packed tight.  Anyway, it was an enjoyable and certainly memorable night.

Here's Porl arriving at the venue...

No more than 2 minutes earlier, a few of us we standing in that very spot.  The back entrance gates were open, so we just walked right in to check out the buses.  After loitering for a minute a man told us to leave.  We did, a Rottweiler was brought out, and the band (with family and guests) began to arrive by vans.  Robert was first only he didn't stay outside very long.  I ran around to the other side to get a better look, missing Simon and Jason.  Porl was last, so I was able to snap a few pics.

Ah, the "Other Voices" request sign has crossed the Atlantic and shall be put to good use in the States.

Off to sleep I go.  Will post more later (including some audio)  :smth020

and nowhere does they sing 'play for today' quite like that (i pity the americans who never get that kind of singing over there!).

I think the southamerican crowd could all be very(!) warm and entusiastic (hope is well written) as well. Here's "Play for today" filmed by me. See all those hands up in the air and the crazyiness of the people. Love it.

Newspaper "LIBERATION" http://www.liberation.fr/culture/315521.FR.php

Robert Smith résiste trois heures trente
GILLES RENAULT photo DR
QUOTIDIEN : vendredi 14 mars 2008

Years, M, Jumping Someone Else’s Train, Play for Today, Grinding Halt…).

Sorry I use a translator  :? but this is just to notify that the newspaper spkeak about "brandished a sign in the pit song called Other Voices"

"Throughout the show Wednesday evening at Bercy, brandished a sign in the pit song called Other Voices. The Cure That did not interpreted. It is really not likely, since Robert Smith gave a concert literally phenomenal shape saga, interpreting more than thirty securities declined over three hours thirty (thirty three hours!) Of a continuous wave Walküre old strewn with pieces of Bravery often rebounded from the depths (One Hundred Years, M, Jumping Someone Else's Train, Play for Today, Grinding Halt…). A few minutes before midnight, the reference group (Smith, Thompson, Gallup, Cooper) left puzzled assistance on a rare and ultimate Faith, signifying perhaps, for that would not have before, that he had kept the faith .

Apart from the 2008 album, delayed, a DVD should eventually seal the event, if we judge by the waltz mechanical cameras and emergency lighting of the room, at least as drunk with happiness, that fatigue ."

My personal review of the amazing show I saw in Paris.

One day in Paris… with The Cure (Part II) (http://blog.curefans.com/dsanchez/2008/03/22/one-day-in-paris-with-the-cure-part-ii/)

The Part I is still in spanish, about three pages. Need to make the translation yet. This part two are my remembers of the concert, an amazing night which was even greatest because of the people I met.

God, time really goes too fast.

It was one year ago, I remember it very clearly.

At this time I was with crowbi, jb, frog, Tof and other Curefans.com members near Bercy. I remember it very clear, I remember how long we had to wait, and I remember my heart banging faster when Robert started to sing. It was a magnificient night. Almost four hours of concert with the best band of the entire planet. I was so f*cking tired after being stand up like 8 hours, but it was worth it. Thanks The Cure.
