Well kissy now I have heard everything.
The other one feeds on my hesitation
Grows inside of my trepidaton
Buries his claws in my dislocation
I whisper your name to lose control

I really think 311's cover sucks pretty hard.  I've never been into their sound, and I loathe the reggae vibe.  It just doesn't sound genuine to me.

In actuality, though, any cover I've heard has been pretty awful (except the Deftones cover of "If Only Tonight I Could Sleep" - pretty kickass).  I find that Robert's collaborations with other artists have been much more fruitful.  For example, "A Perfect Blue Sky" with JunkieXL, "To Love Somebody" with Billy Corgan (a cover in itself), "All of This" with Blink182 - just to name a few.

so you're saying u don't like 311?...or their cover versions of Cure songs?  i'm from Upstate NY, absolutely despise the Yankees, Rock the Sox more than anyone here in Lincoln, Nebraska (where i live now) which happens to be about 60 miles SW of Omaha...the good ole stompin' grounds of our dear friends 311.  there's gotta be a positive connection there somewhere...right?

311 isn't for everyone but their version of "Lovesong" is awesome. DEFINITLY not Robert and the Boyzz but nevertheless a good song.

The guys over at Nightmareonelmstreetfilms forums were all giddy about 311's Lovesong. They had no idea it was a Cure song, and they frankly don't care either because they all hate the Cure.

Oh well. I'm also pretty tired of Blink 182, as if I needed more of a reason to think badly of them.

Hey, I'm all for leaving people's taste in music alone... and you definitely get points for being a Sox fan, but 311 was just never my cup of tea.  I'm fairly consistent in my distaste for their music (in other words, I've not liked ANY of their songs, not just the Lovesong cover).  Not to say you shouldn't like/love them - I'll just never be on that bandwagon.

thats all good my friend  :smth023  my ex wife was the one who kinda turned me on to them.  i think since my divorce 3 years ago, i've listened to 311 twice and the Cure 2,352,542 times...give or take a few..hahaha

good night pal.

That f*cking horrendous cover of "Apart" by All About Eve.
It makes my skin crawl. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.

I think Blink 182 ruined Boys don't cry. And the song is played too fast i think.
No, that is absolutely not my thing, sorry. It sounds awful   :smth009

Oh don't get me started.. There are so many, but there's on in particular that's just f***** awful! It's a cover of 'A Short Term Effect', my all time favorite cure song. Not only is it not in the spirit of the original, it doesn't have a guitar intro (that is required for this song), and the bassguitar player plays the wrong basslines at the beginning.

Here's the link.... *sigh*

"Cold as it hits the bleeding ground.. ground... ground... ground.." -uuuuh.

all these bad cover bands are certainly one thing. but still, this version here never ended up on an album somewhere and got released. it's amazing what kind of rubbish versions have really been officially released.
i think the link that lostflower4 posted towards the beginning of this thread (that awful version of 'catch' with a trombone and hat horrible singer), that's still one of the worst (released) ones i've ever heard.

Horrible isn't it? He also mimic the decaying vocals of the original. "ground ground ground ground...." stupid. I tried to get to the link lostflower4 posted, but it's gone  :? The page is down or something... It's a shame that those people can cover Cure songs aswell as release it on an actual album without getting into any trouble, like claims of copyrights.. I saw this french magazine posting a cover of the whole pornography album.. I can't recall the name of it right now though, I listened to their "short term effect" cover, and it was like the worst nightmare possible..
