Choose your favourite song for this album!, and write down WHY do you think it's great.
:rocker
"Siamese Twins" gets my vote - I could listen to that song forever. It's so heartbreaking and tense and full of vitriol. I've always thought that "Siamese Twins" is an angrier song than "100 Years"... and seriously, which one would you rather hear live? Hands down, Siamese Twins.
One Hundred Years!!! :P
It's martial drums and awesome guitar make me rocking!!! :rocker
I chose "Pornography." It's so dark, and the drumming is so great.
On a side note, went to a bowling alley earlier today, and played this over the jukebox. People seemed confused. lol
Pornography...everything's over.
"Your name like ice into my heart" is one of the greatest lines Robert has written. Cold gets my vote.
I voted for Cold!!! It is so cold and sad! You want to cry! Oh tears! :(
Siamese Twins is so wonderful..
absolutely figurehead...the last passage it's the best cure dramatic chord
Siamese twins, drum is very beautiful! :rocker

I quote erPomata
the figurehead
Sharp and open
Leave me alone
And sleeping less every night
As the days become heavier and weighted
Waiting In the cold light
Pretty Much their best song(tied with Plainsong, Disintegration and Pictures of You)
why didnt the hangig garden get a vote!? for shame :smth011
Good lord... I have no idea!
One Hundred Years is so intense and passionate, A Short Term Effect practically melts, The Hanging Garden is so driven -- the drums are fantastic! --, Siamese Twins and The Figurehead both have such an incredible amount of hate in them, inwardly directed and disgusted, A Strange Day is such beauty! "Give me your eyes that I might see...." is one of Robert's best lyrics, I think. And Cold! The opening is so dark and despairing... I just... Wow.... And Pornography? What an incredible finish! Such anger and despair, completely the opposite of the final verses of "Faith", because there's nothing left in Pornography, not even faith.
Wow.... I honestly can't answer.
I voted for 'the figurehead'.
but honestly, i could have voted for any of these songs because i love them all equally. :D
Cold - perfect song, superb lyrics and excellent arrangement, feels from melting to freezing basically, a song that puts in all emotions and let's you feel them!
Same can be said about Siamese Twins, of course as well (and almost all songs are considered to be faves - and I love the albumversion of A Strange Day xxx times more than the recent liveversion...)
Hmmm...The Figurehead, A Strange Day, Siamese Twins (I am just thinking aloud here )...Hey I can't choose to only one !!! :smth100 Maybe The Figurehead.
I love the whole album. It's my favorite one.
But if I had to pick one. It would be Cold.
It's just perfect. the lyrics and the music just go with on another.

I voted for the Hanging Garden!! I am the only one??!! :P
The Figurehead, but this is the toughest album to choose from because its my favourite. I think the lyrics just mean a lot "I will never be clean again"
The Hanging garden. closely followed by 100 years.
:rocker
Siamese Twins - absolutely beautiful, absolutely heartbreaking...
how come no-one has voted for 'the short term effect' until now?
this has got to change...!
movement no movement - if i could only pick ten cure songs to take with me on a desert island (assuming there was electricity and some means to play the songs... ;)), i wouldn't leave without this!
it's also one of the three or four songs on 'trilogy' which i only ever watch (which i even don't do very often because most of the dvd just puts me to sleep! unless i want to sleep... but for that, any dream tour audience dvd is even better: you're guaranteed to pass out by the time they get to 'fascination street'. hehe. ok sorry to wander off the subject).
The Figurehead because... this is about me :-D
All songs, really. A brilliant dark album! Except "A Short Term Effect", maybe - a very good psychedelic song, but somehow doesn´t seem to possess the intensity of the other seven.
Pressed to choose, however, I would go with "100 Years". Possibly their best opener ever, although I understand they have never opened a concert with this one (Trilogy concerts notwithstanding), it´s just too much and the rest of the concert would probably seem like a very long anti-climax...
Siamese Twins is completely beautiful and dream-like to me. I would say Cold was the runner-up for me but there's something about Siamese Twins that speaks to me. Great song.
A Strange Day...Wonderful song...even if it's not easy to make a choice with pornography.... :?
:)
very tough call...depending upont he day I could have chosen 100 Year, The Hanging Garden or A Strange Day...But I chose the title track PORNOGRAPHY
FIGUREHEAD.
"I can never say no to anyone but you."
I noticed that I never answered this topic ... I guess it is because I can hardly choose ...
all the songs are great for some reason.
I vote for 100 Years, the song brings me to a moment to forget everything, it's great and powerful :rocker
Pornography is my favorite song on the album, its hard to describe it. I love the distorted sound loops in the background, I love when the drums first come in, and Robert Smith's voice is perfect for the song. Top it off with Smith drowning someone in the shower and looking for a cure, Pornography easily for me.
It seems that I had voted for "One Hundred Years," but my favorite now is "Cold"

IDEM ..... 100 years
First post here at this site, I was buried 27 years ago but finally clawed my way out and this song is favorite song for me of all time from the Cure for two major reasons really.
I really don't know which one came first but first reason is I played the record album in the basement one day and turned it up loud and I fell in love with it and before I got done Dad came down the stairs and said, " What the hell are you listening to!?!? " Of course I smiled and said The Cure. He was horrified and it didn't matter to me.
Second supporting reason and better is I read a magazine once that supposedly was an interview with Robert S. and I loved why he made the whole album.
I believe he said something like people said this album was too dark and maybe shouldn't have been made but really it was what he felt at the time and he called it pornography because people looked on this music as negatively as pornography and it should be hidden. Please forgive me if I can't remember it 100% and forgive me of any error as I began listening back in 1984.
Thanks to Robert Smith for creating the song Pornography that is much like a tree and all of his other songs stemmed from this tree year after year ripen and fall to the ground for us to pickup and enjoy.
Short term effect is my fave! :smth020 But the whole album is incredible infact it is my fave album I hope the cure once done with the reflections tour theydo a similer one involving pornography... that would be a dreaaam! I would fly anywhere to see that :-D
I chose Siamese Twins but *AAAAAAgggghhhhh* Pornography, The Hanging Garden and The Short Term Effect and 100 Years and.....
Impossible question to answer. They're all flawless. Seriously.
100 years. I love the drama of this song. A few of the songs on this album that people seem to rave about on this thread I find a bit of a let down namely Cold & the title track. A strange day is my 2nd favourite.
Pornography is my favorite song on that album, but I think A strange Day is great and should have been the single.
Lyrically i Love All Songs Of course.....musically Hanging Garden was grower on me though the Demo i liked for the first time...amazing...i dont really like Strange Day or Siamese Twins as album versions, but i listened to siamese twins live from Rotterdam in 82...amazing atmospheric stuff guitar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm8MHsGIyZA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm8MHsGIyZA))...also i love Berlin Trilogy Version..
Strange Day hasnt growed on me yet...
One Hundred Years, followed by The Hanging Garden, A Short Term Effect, Siamese Twins. Such creepy, twisted lyrics on this album!
The guitar line on siamese twins is simply unforgetable
yup, another Vote for Siamese twins-best Song on the Album :smth023
"Cold" by far
01 The Figurehead (the guitars are crying... my heart is tearing apart...)
02 Cold (this cello and the drums! just like in a grave)
03 A Hanging Garden (a little catchy pop-influence in the deep darkness)
01 Siamese Twins
02 The Figurehead
03 A Strange Day
The whole album is simply classic and I have no words to describe my feelings about these tracks.
Just listen...
Interesting brandnew (June 28, 2017) article about "Pornography":
http://www.popmatters.com/feature/the-cure-pornographic-cure-bittersweet-relief/
QuotePornography, the Cure's 1982 album, positively drips with dreariness. And yet, it wouldn't be fair to pigeonhole it as just an exercise in eerie pathos. Otherworldly, meditatively mercurial, spiritually harrowing—these ideas encapsulate the complex compelling nature of the album because it's so much more than just the ponderously murky, suicide-inducing effort it's often made out to be. It clashes with nuanced contradictions; it's at once sparse and dense, clamoring and quiet. It gives rise to the paradoxical idea of poetic cacophony. Discordance never sounded so sublime.
"Figurehead" is the centerpiece of Pornography, and the best "dark" song in The Cure's catalogue. "Figurehead" is a baroquely morose opera whose startlingly surrealistic lyrics summon repressed guilt that gnaws like "spiders inside" and that creepily calls forth "the dust of a vision of hell". "Figurehead" sounds like it was recorded in a dungeon before time began.
:smth023
Voted for Short Term Effect only because of the 1982 live version (particularly the Olympia one).
As for the studio version, I can't vote for the eight songs at once. I should! :smth011
This is one album I can't listen to by parts. Once I press "play", I always listen from start to finish.
One of the Best Rock Albums Ever, hands down.
That said, I am a Disintegration guy. But only just.
1. The Figurehead
2. Pornography
3. A Short Term Effect
1. The Hanging Garden
2. A Strange Day
3. Pornography
This is the 1st album of The Cure that I bought and it is one of my favorites in general. It has this cathartic effect on me.
Like everyone here I had a hard time choosing 1 song as favorite for at least 4 songs qualify, but I voted A Strange Day because for me it is about transcending despair into a blissful vastness. It describes this feeling so well....
The other 3 songs that I seriously doubted to choose as favorites are Siamese Twins, The Figurehead and Pornography.
