Heh.... one of the lines in Lullaby sounds like he's saying "Softer then shadows and curly fries." XD

Really like the words you have on your attachment lordsquidy13  :rocker

Cure Freak

one mile in the air that's where she lives
her body looks so thin and pink and small
dropping eggs from nervous shaking hands
and swallowing her fingers as they fall
two people dance on the edge:three of us push them away
there's nowhere to go we're all in this
but nothing can hurt us at all
fight her all you want you'll never win
couldn't we just once leave her in bed
let the dry air cut her happy throat
hide her heart and lose her happy head
first I was a murderer then I was a saint
now I live on stolen time twist and run like paint
like an animal
tuesday in the sun nothing could be worse
not now not ever not anymore....

Like An Animal

Yesterday I was bugging practically everyone I saw asking them if they had ever heard the line "I chose an eternity of this" because I couldn't remember what it was from and I kept thinking of it. I was sure it was the first line of a poem I really liked. You know when you get stuck on something and it bugs the hell out of you until you figure it out? And then it finally hit me.....

I chose an eternity of this
like falling angels
the world disappeared
laughing into the fire
is it always like this?

here's a piece of lyrics i've always found to be unintentionally funny:

you the one that looks like christmas

i suppose "christmas" is supposed to mean something positive, something gorgeous and tempting - but if it was up to me to decide how to use that expression, it would be pretty much the opposite: if i'd say something like "that guy, he looks like christmas" then that would certainly mean he's the silliest looking hoser with an award-winning lack of style that i ever saw.  :-D

maybe some discussions should be made individual topics.

to stay on-topic and swing the mood a bit, here's a piece of lyrics i've always found to be unintentionally funny:

I'm never quite sure when a discussion inspired by the original topic starts being "off topic"...
Are you sure the humor is unintentional? Irony is always lurking under Robert's "happy" lyrics... Well, maybe not as much in the latest records, but still... When I hear him siging something like this I always picture a sarcastic smirk on his face.  ;)

i know what you mean and i mostly agree. and i guess it's supposed to be sarcastic, yes. but for some reason i think it somehow fails - it's just so.... dumb-ish. kind of hillbilly-ish, sort of...
for some reason i don't find it witty, like most of his other "happy" lyrics.
so maybe i react to it in an "oh no" kind of way, because it's so rare that robert would fall on the dumb side.
i really don't know why i react to it like that, but it always embarrasses me a bit, every time i hear it. hah.

This one by "plainsong" is simple but so sweet!

"Sometimes you make me feel
Like I'm living at the edge of the world"

Indeed. Pretty much every line on the album Disintegration is one of my favourites. Especially 'Pictures of You', I think everyone can relate to that song. I also like:

"hold me like this for a hundred, thousand, million days"
"distant noises, other voices"
"daylight licked me into shape, must have been asleep for days"
etc... every word and line is brilliant!

personally, i like it because it's nice to see Robert all silly sometimes. That's why I watch the "Friday I'm In Love" video a lot. I love seeing him dance around all happy and silly. But, I can see how some fans wouldn't like the line, you're the one who looks like Christmas. There are many sides of Robert, and I love them all, haha.

revolt

The Cure have so many great lines in their songs that this thread could go on forever...

Some of my favourite have already been mentioned, so instead of repeating them I´ll just post some great ones that haven't been mentioned yet:

You carry your love in a trinket
Hanging round your throat
Always inviting
Always exciting
But I must not take off my coat

(It's Not You)

Strangers
Nobody knows we love
I catch your eyes in the dark
One look relives the memory
Remember me
The way I used to be

(Secrets)

One by one her senses die
The memories fade
And leave her eyes
Still seeing worlds that never were
And one by one the bright birds leave her ...

(The Drowning Man)

The very first time I touched your skin
I thought of a story
And rushed to reach the end
Too soon

(Primary)

A hundred other words blind me with your purity
Like an old painted doll in the throes of dance
I think about tomorrow

(The Figurehead)

Remember the time that you rained all night
The queen of Siam in my arms
Remember the time that the islands sank
But nobody opened their eyes

(Just One Kiss)

I kissed you in the water
And made your dry lips sing
I saw you look
Like a Japanese baby
In an instant I remembered everything

(The Walk)

Flowers in your mouth and the same dry
Song the routine from laughter land
16 white legs and a row of teeth
I watch you in secrecy

(Piggy in the mirror)

A palace of stones
Of your bananafish bones
I'll buy you a hundred years old
To celebrate our difference
Theorise and talk yourself
Until you're tired and old

(Bananafishbones)

Tell me who doesn't love
What can never come back
You can never forget how it used to feel

(The Blood)

All this in an instant
before i can kiss you
a woman now standing
were once there was only a girl

(Last dance)

and face pushed deep
reflections meet
the strangest twist upon your lips
and disappear
the ripples clear
and laughing break
against your feet
and laughing break the mirror sweet
"so we shall be together..."

(The Same Deep Water as You)

I really think the great flow stops at 'Disintegration', although both THOTD and KMKMKM were generally far from great, lyrically. 'Wish' also has some good lines but I think they have already been mentioned...

revolt

And here are a few more good ones:

Look into my eyes
We both smile
I could kill you
Without trying
That's accuracy

(Accuracy)

Shifting crimson veil
Silken hips slide
Under my hand
Swollen lips whisper
My name
And I yearn
You take me in your arms
And start to burn

(Fire in Cairo)

Drifting up the stairs
I see the steps behind me
Disappearing
Can you help me?

(Three Imaginary Boys)

Everyone's happy
They're finally all the same
'cause everyone's jumping
Everyone else's train

(Jumping Someone Else's Train)

I stand and hear my voice
Cry out
A wordless scream at ancient power
It breaks against stone
I softly leave you crying
I cannot hold what you devour

(The holy hour)

How can you ever let
My hope turn to despair?
How can you ever stop
Pretending?

(Ocean)

Christmas falls late now, flatter and colder
And never as bright as when we used to fall
Even if we drink I don't think we would kiss
In the way that we did when the woman was only a girl

~Last Dance

Another Christmas reference(The Snakepit; Lets go to Bed, etc.. )and he captures that undercurrent of melancholia and nostalgia associated with the holiday.
