Hello everyone

If any of you are doing any Christmas decorating this year, please post some pictures so we can see what that looks like around the world!  :)

We're in Australia, and I'm often trying to get out of decorating, but then we do a bit anyway - just fairy lights around the place, and an Australian native tree called an Albany Woollybush we grew in a pot out in the garden, and we bring in and decorate for Christmas.  This is what it looked like last year:

This year, we finally put our TV antenna on the roof (it had to go on the really high part and I chickened out for a long time), so that's no longer part of the Christmas decorations.  :cool

We also have trees called Christmas trees here in Western Australia, which flower spectacularly in orange at Christmastime. Here's some photographed off horseback last Christmas, on the neighbour's farm, which has a lot of nature conservation area as well:

Christmas trees are actually semi-parasitic on surrounding plants - and Aboriginal people used to make a mildly intoxicating drink by steeping their flowers in water and letting it brew.  Here's more on our Aussie Christmas tree:

When I moved to Australia from Europe as a schoolkid, I was really impressed by this local "Christmas tree"!

So who here is doing some decorating - and maybe some Christmas baking?

Not my own Xmas deco, but at a friend's home, done by his sister (his eyesight is bad and he is in a wheelchair, assisted living etc.); I thought it's nice and decided to share it with you:

(Yes it was also his b-day not long ago, hence the greeting card.)

That's very cool, @chemicaloverload:cool ...study over for the year now?

@Ulrich, that takes me back - people don't do window decorations like that here.  That was something I really liked as a kid, but had forgotten about.

We have guests today and put a little 30cm Christmas tree in a wall niche in their room.  No photos but might take one after they depart.  Also silver fairy lights all over one wall in their room!  Silver stars and silver hearts on strings.  And a white owl with a light globe in it that makes it glow in the dark when you switch it on.  It's fun decorating for others as a surprise! :)

I learnt how attachments work on this forum.  :)

So, here's this year's Christmas tree.  It was decorated at the very last moment on Christmas Eve, by international guests. I'd gotten the tree in and they offered to decorate while I was making food for everyone.  They did a splendid job of it - and I particularly like that they used the leftover tinsel to cover the soil in the pot, which wasn't very Christmassy...

Yes, it is smaller than last year, because it got pruned back to make fresh growth!  :cool

Yeah, nice one - for this year, I had in mind a tree of that size (maybe even a plastic one, to be re-used), but as I didn't "celebrate" at home (went to my sister), I didn't bother... (my mom had a bit of deco in the house).

Yes, it's much more efficient if someone else does the decorating. :)  I really don't love decorating for Christmas and am so glad that our guests said, "Let us do that for you!"  :smth023
