The best available tickets at the time for me were ones in the 2nd mosh/standing area.
Not the best... but hey at least I'll be there.
I'm going to be there by myself, kind of scary ahaha.

Someone already won two VIP tickets for this gig, including "two Meet and Greet passes". The winning bid was worth US$811

nausearockpig - or anyone else for that matter... Would it be possible for you to take note of the set list they play in Brissie... I'm going to the Melb. gig and I would like to cheat and have a rough idea of what they will be playing!!! I doubt that the set list will vary to much. Cheers if you can do that for me! :smth023

Post by: ~*CherryRed*~ on July 27, 2007, 00:38:49
LOL me either... what I plan to do is find a reception looking type area and just ask! And maybe hang around and be annoying to the bouncers... er, I should say 'security guards'! I did get back stage years ago, But I had contacts for that.. so this time I'm flying blind and solo too it would seem, as no one else in Melb. has said they'd follow me!

When Roger Waters came here last march, it was easy to find him and even get a photo and signature!. We just waited for him in front of his Sheraton Hotel and he was kind enough to sign autographes to at least 30 persons. So I hope our boys will have a similar attitude :)

Ah Roger Waters hey! Brilliant... I like it when 'stars' are obliging to their fans! It is us after all, that has paid for them to be 'stars'! Snobby 'stars' just piss me off and deserve a good sorting out.... well thats my whinge for the day! Did you manage to get a photo too then dsanchez?? Any chance of sharing it? I love to be nosey and see people's photos! And I reckon if any one is lucky enough to track down where The Cure are staying, they'll have no problem with having a chat to 'em... our lads are very personable!

Aw, not long now BrisVegas Peoples!!! I lived on the Goldie for years, but moved to Tassie 2 years ago... so I would've been there with you tomorrow night if I was still there! I saw The Wish Tour there back in 1992, and went to Livid in 2000 to see them (I'll keep my comments about that particular gig to myself I think!). Hope someone posts the setlist for me as requested previously... The Adelaide and Perth poeple have done so. So have a look if you'd like to see what to expect. Theres not too much difference between them really. Have a blast! Oh and if anyone does get backstage - I expect a full report and pictures too!

I still need to order mine.  Hmmm...what size does Robert look like?  Large, XL?  Probably best to go up a size since I'll be catching him at the end of the tour since he tends to puff up a tad :P

Having met him, he is my size (minus the hair).  I would at least go XL, if not XXL.

I just ordered mine yesterday.  Maybe I should have added another one.....

Or did you accidentally leave it out ?

Also did they really leave out "The Kiss" and "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" ?

What a wonderful, wonderful night! I haven't been to a Cure forum in YEARS, but after last night, I had to get on this morning in my ABSOLUTE delight!

Yes - they didn't play FASCINATION STREET..... Have to say I was thrilled to bits with the setlist. I really felt they tried to cater for the fans and the 'chart followers'. I was able to sing along with everything, and danced the night away!

Also, interesting to hear Robert say how awkward he still feels playing to large audiences. He mentioned he feels a lot better in front of 50.... is that how big the secret gig will be????

My post from THE CURE COMMUNITY:

I remember the Wish Tour at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre with very fond memories (was 16 at the time). It was my first 'big' concert - what a way to start... my fav band, and they didn't disappoint. Only problem - I had close to the worse seats in the house, and no one around me wanted to dance! I felt so rude getting up and dancing around.

Of course, then there was the Dream Tour. My disappointment with the Dream Tour was having to endure a day full of sh!t music and drunks at Livid festival, so the Cure could wrap it up - boy, did they blow the socks off all the other bands! The next day, my partner (now husband)proposed...

Now, I am sitting here listening to the Cure after a brilliant, wonderful gig at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre last night. I was at the first barrier on the floor. I found a position that I could see through all the tall people (yes, I am vertically challenged), and danced the whole night (despite some pre-ageing arthritic joints!)

I have seen many bands over the years, and the Cure stand out as one the best live. Minimal talk, no costume changes, and PLENTY of music!

Thank you for such a wonderful night guys and years of fantastic music. As Robert said at the end of show, "Thank you. See you again" - I certainly hope so. I'll be there!

It was really a great show.

No "The Kiss" or "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" or "Fascination Street" but we did get a nice version of "Catch" and "At Night" along with what will now probably become 2007/8 "staples". Fire In Cairo was an excellent surprise too.. A Strange Day was excellent too... and Jumping Someone Else's Train.. one of my faves

I thought that most of the Brisbane audience weren't really hardcore fans who knew all the songs. I know this sounds precious and pretentious and I don't want to sound like "I'm their biggest fan so why are YOU listening to them??" but during Shake Dog Shake and One Hundred Years, a lot of people in the general admission and in the stands around me didn't know the songs and looked bored.

When all of the singles came on, the crowd came alive but mostly they were a bit more subdued during the non-single songs. I don't think most people recognised Catch for a long time. At Night wasn't received as warmly as I'd expected and when Play For Today was playing there was no "Ohhh oh ohhh" that the Euro crowds sing..

It was an excellent show, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I think the 2005 DVD and shows I've heard made me kinda go "what??" due to the change in sound of the band and the songs.

They sound a lot more "rockier" these days.. which I must say works well..

Never Enough was really cool, Robert said something like "I can't be fucked tonight" and then they started the song with just Porl playing the gee-tar parts. it really rocked. a lot better than the 2005 versions where they did the start/stop thing a lot in that song...

Now looking back I'm disappointed that they didn't play The Kiss but again it was an excellent show and i really loved it..

The quote of the day goes to the country meat-axe beefcakes behind us on the train on the way home who said "I'm disappointed that they didn't play lovecats."  LOL

PS definitley no Fascination Street...

PPS I have some photos but my camera is a bit shit so I doubt they're going to look good, but I will post them here in the coming days..

PPPS I made a recording of the show but unfortunately due to my inexperience, nervousness of being caught and ejected and general un-preparedness the first Mini-disc didn't record so everything up to Primary is gone forever [from me at least] and worst of all the recording is distorted so it's a very poor recording of a very powerful and excellent show.

I want to take this opportunity to apologise for not being more prepared with the recording, for fcking it up and for not being able to share anything worthwhile with all of you excellent people.

I especially want to apologise to those who have so graciously shared the shows that they recorded at great risk to themselves as I noticed [I was shitting myself all for nothing now it seems] and to anyone else who has shared and traded with me in the past. I really wanted to give you all this - including any Ubers out there, just to give something back and to have this as a momento of a fantastic night.

In the near future I will be sharing this show but now as it's incomplete and basically a crap recording, I'm in no great hurry because believe me, you're not missing much..

Enjoy the Sydney, Melbourne and NZ shows.

Javier

Really...It is a same situation that happen during the show in Singapore last week..They really missed that one man! There are only few of us (maybe considered as Diehard Curefans i supposed  :smth020) who really enjoy the show..

100 years - great song to be missed, especially the drumline
Shake Dog Shake - only true curefans can really enjoy such song..

So,are you going to Sydney javier?
Enjoy man!! :rocker

Cheers..

I must say I was surprised that not more people were getting into it from the floor as well. I was standing next to someone who, like me, was singing/mouthing the words to every song and was dancing along. However, in front of me was a couple who didn't move (actually, only moved to get a better look at Robert), until the last encore - very surprising.

I loved the rocky aspect as well.... I have been in that musical frame of mind lately, so that was fantastic! The funny thing I noticed - was holding my water bottle in my hand, and could feel the base pulsating through it. Shouldn't be surprised (that I know), however it was just wonderful to feel that sensation in the bottle and then through my hand/up my arm!!!

@ Sussex: no man can't make it to the sydney shows..

@ Toneta: I noticed that a lot of the people there were in their 30s or older but didn't know really know the non-singles... v strange. i wouldn't bother going to see a band [and paying over 100.00] unless i really like their music - most of it i mean. you're lucky to get a good look at Robert, I was four rows back on the left [looking at the stage] and he only came over two or three times.. except for all the times they went off stage..

there was a girl/woman with long dark hair in a sparkly top on side of stage near the steps up to the stage who was watching some of the show. i wonder who she was. couldn't see her properly..

and i noticed that there was a microphone on the left side speaker stack. it looked like and omni-directional one... wonder what that's about???

I am guessing from the rest of your post, you where over near Porl, so this microphone was near that side? Because - guess what - there was one over one the right hand side too, which I only noticed when the concert was over. The roadie checking Simon's stuff filmed the audience right before the Cure started, which I presumed was the thing the Cure traditionally did (ie - film the audience before the gig, watch it, then come on stage)????

I wasn't as close as you were, however I wasn't too far back, and probably 1.5 meters to the side of Robert (in Simon's direction). As I said, had a good view of all them - Robert got a little obscured at times, but that just gave me the opportunity to watch more of Simon and Porl.

Yes, was strange with the 30+ age-bracket, I agree. There seemed to be a lot of people who just wanted to stare, and I got the impression they didn't really know the songs because they only got 'active' with the more popular/known/'greatest hits' tracks.

In any case, that doesn't matter - I had a fantastic time, and so did you!!!! :-D

Didn't see the woman on the side of the stage...... curious....

yeah i was very near Porl.. in the group of seats to his right, four rows back.. they were good seats.. if you got to www.cure-concrets.de and click the 2007 link then click the Brisbane show, you'll see my ticket scan there...

re the mics i know from interviews etc that Robert used to record the 1982 shows [i think] and then review the band's performance each night. maybe he was trying to get an audience perspective of the show?

or maybe he reads this forum and will post a copy of the show for us to download and enjoy...yeh maybe....

Yeah this is what I mean. Apart from Just Like Heaven, Close To Me, The Walk, Let's Go To Bed etc, the crowd was pretty lame... not the reaction I expected.. I get the feeling that a lot of people would be complaining that they didn't play all their other singles.. I can imagine "What is this shit???" was said a lot by a lot of people... oh well their loss.

I loved At Night et al...

Don't sweat the recording thing, Javier.  It happens to the best of us.  I have always really liked Alice in Chains and was thrilled to be able to see them at the Download Festival in Dublin in June of last year.  They sounded great, and had a great set.  I also recorded Metallica.  Apparently gout runs in my family (my grandfather, uncle, and younger brother all have it), and I developed a rather painful case of it in my feet while in Ireland.  It was so painful that I could literally barely walk to my car after this concert.  I hung in there because I wanted to make the tape of the show.  I was beyond disappointed when I got home and the recording was crap....it sounded like a ton of people in a room listening to a radio and singing along.   :smth011

Just a shame it happened to you during the show you REALLY wanted!

the Brisbane Entertainment Centre was by no means full. the back top section of seats were curtained off and the stage was moved forward- have a look at the attached picture to see what i mean. the first standing area was 2/3 full and the second was probably 1/2 full.. mind you i didn't take too much notice of the crowd back there but it wasn't packed to full capacity ..

from memory the centre can hold 12000 people? i doubt that there were more than 5000 people there..

sad really but that's brisbane for you... and the centre is out in the middle of fking nowhere... unlike sydney..

"Hung over" or "hang over" - both these mean that he had been drinking lots of alcohol the night before, and was suffering for it (for example, headaches and on).

I think though, when you are extremely tired, you can appear hung over as well! (though I am sure in Robert's case he had been sampling some great Australian wines!)

Hi all. First post.

Just got to say The Cure were awesome as always. They never fail to impress me and Brisbane was no exception. I was just to the right of Robert and about two meters from the front. I've got a few dodgy mobile phone pics which I could post later.

Just a question. Does anyone know if tour merchandise is available for purchase from anywhere other than the concerts? I was going to buy a shirt as a gift for someone and should have done it on the night but didn't think.

Cheers, Brett

concert merchandise has a tendency to show up on ebay post-tour. usually sellers claim that the items are brand new, so I assume that somehow they've managed to get a hold of whatever was left over.
also, much of the merchandise was from the company love police, their website is www.lovepolice.com.au but they don't seem to have any cure gear in their online store which is disappointing because I missed out on a shirt also on account of the fact that by the time I got to the front of the line the only shirts they had left would have made excellent tents but not exactly great garmets for someone of my size. So i have a hat.

&& she said that some people behind her were saying after the last encore, even when the main lights came on, that it couldn't be over yet, they haven't played Lovecats.

hehe that sounds like someone's famous last words: a dude lies there on his death bed and says "no this can't be over just yet, they didn't even play the freaking lovecats... uuuuuh..." - and then the dude dies. LOL. ok i'm sorry for some really bad humour today...

and hmm i sort of agree with you javier but i was also somehow genuinely delighted to read that "the worst concert ever" comment on thecure.com because in the context of what's posted there most of the time it simply felt like a refreshing anomaly... like a fresh gust of wind.... aaaaahhhh...

I've just read the posts about people and their Lovecats obsession! LOL, I had people around me in Melb. actually yelling out for it to be played! As if they'll change the setlist for them! I have a theory on why Lovecats 'seems' to be so popular with people... Every nightclub you go to anywhere, and you ask for a Cure song, invariably they'll only have Lovecats. So thats why I reckon non diehards (like us!!) seem to love that song so much! I could've suggested a million (well not quiet, but you get the point!) other songs to yell out!!!

Also I heard about the Brisbane meet and greet thingy (via billee), and all I have to say is that I didn't really believe that the band wouldn't have met with them, as we all no just how fan friendly our lads are!!! If they didn't do it, I said it would've been due to a real legit reason. Let's not forget people they are only human and can get sick/ill... and who wants to meet people and be all friendly when you feel crook??? So that was my reasoning - must defend them!!

Also did any of you BrisVegas people hear the music played before intro(tape) began the show? The background type music that was played as the fellas on stage farted about with last minute prep.?? I firmly believe that that music was a taste of the forthcoming album! It sounded alot like possession from the join the dots box set... And if I'm right, I'm really excited about the new album - as it's a newish sound for them!!! What do you all reckon?

I agree with those who said that the Brisbane crowd didn't seem too enthusiastic. One man sitting next to me appeared to be so bored that he actually pulled out his mobile phone and started playing with it mid-concert! :smth011

LOL unbelievable!  :smth071 :smth075
That takes me back to when I saw The Cure in BrisVegas (for the Wish Tour in '92). I'm ashamed to say that my mates boyfriend actually feel asleep in his seat! He wasn't a Cure fan, and I still have no idea why he came along really (maybe an insecurity thing... not trusting my mate to be loyal to him or some crap?? Who knows with men!!! LOL, no offence meant - really!). That was terrible as it brought the mood down... I ended up leaving my seat anyway and dancing in the isle! I had a good view of the stage too, and really liked the pattern of the stage floor... Did anyone else that went to the 1992 gig take any photos? I wasn't rich enough to own a camera back then... and digital ones weren't around as far as I knew. most def. no camera phones!!! LOL - my god, how OLD do I sound??????? Where's my walking stick?

Steve convinced me to tell my failed recording story. This way anyone who intends to tape a show, and has never done it before, won't make the same mistakes I did:

Read on my friends....

This is my Brisbane story....

I was pretty broke at the time but I managed to get my hands on a Sony MD recorder. I managed to buy some Giant Squid mics and a battery box via the net for a cheap price very close to the concert date and was stressing that the mics wouldn't arrive in time. they did. i got all the gear home and started to test it. the recording level settings on the MD recorder worried me somewhat as i didn't get time to go to a practice gig or concert due to lack of time and funds..

I had a bit of trouble with the recorder recognizing blank discs. there was a problem witht the thing that goes into or not [whatever the case may be] in the hole where it recognizes a protected or not protected disc.. managed to fix that with some more creative use of sticky tape.

I  got hold of some dodgy old sunglasses that I planned to clip the mics on and practised a bit at home to get it all right.. [It turns out that the sunglasses idea was crap so I took my spectacles along instead]. The day of the concert arrives and readied myself. I coiled up all the cables and wrapped them in sticky tape so when the time came I could unravel the cables easily. I put on two pairs of jocks [I had practised walking "all loaded" for a bit and it was ok!], my jeans two t-shirts and my leather jacket - which is lined against the cold... I put the MD, mics, battery box, binoculars and two bottles of soft drink into a black plastic bag. there was no way i was travelling too far with all the gear pantsed..

The Brisbane Entertainment Centre is not conveniently located unlike it's Sydney and Melbourne counterparts.. We had to catch a bus to the city - 10 mins, then a train out to the BEC - the train takes 30 or so mins to get there... so we left for the bus with plenty of time to spare as I did not want to be running late or have to stress about anything. The bus is late. Grrr... There's a problem with Brisbane City Council buses and that day was no exception.. so of course i start to panic a bit.. The bus arrives and we get to the train station.. We get our train tix and are advised that there's a special late service at 11:30pm to get us home [again this proves how lame Brisbane is]. The train ride there was uneventful. I was of course, giddy with anticipation and my fiancee was getting excited but not too much. We get to the BEC stop and walk the 500 metres to the centre grounds..

We pass a toilet block on the way to the main gates.. all the while I'm carrying the plastic bag with all my recording gear.. we walk up to the gates and can see them checking bags and patting some people down... i panic some more.. we walk to the car park so i can pants all the gear but there's security and police [!] there. so we walk 400 metres back to the toilet block and i enter the one cubicle.. which when standing at the trough you can see into... so i quickly pants my gear and walk out trying to look cool.. we line up...

we get to the security guard and she wants to check my bag - no probs then she sees the bottles of drink and tells us to take the lids off and drink it all there. she looks in my fiancee's bag asking if she's carrying any cameras - she says no - there's  a camera there.. we get past...

we line up for AGES for merchandise, I buy a tour book and of course, being an aussie, a stubbie [Beer] cooler... we head to the loos for my mrs.. we then head to the gate and she says she has to go again because she didn't go before cos the toilet was too full...

so i wait and chat to the door lady as i want to seem friendly and not arouse suspicion later on. I ask what time the band's on and blah blah.. she says 8:00pm on the dot.... we enter- we are soooooo close.... at 10 to 8 i go "to the toilet". as i'm unraveling everything or try to anyway as my sticky tape won't unravel. as i'm stressing about that I hear an announcement "The Cure will be on stage shortly"  so i panic some more... i madly cram everythignin my pockets and roughly get my mics between my shirts and not hanging properly... I go back inside.. 15 mins later no The Cure... so i start to get my stuff ready. I get my pad and pen out [one song per page, that way you dont' need to look at or see what you're writing..] i start to "subtly" arrange my mics having great difficulty getting them out.

Tape starts, I grab the MD and press the Pause and then Record button and set my mobile phone alarm to go off in 65 minutes [80 minute MDs].

The alarm goes off, i change MD before Primary and miss the intro cos of my bumbling fingers. At the end of the the main set i change to the third MD and start recording..

the show finishes and we leave in such a high that i didn't care that the meataxe from the country in the seat behind us said "it was good but i was disappointed that they didn't play lovecats' boy we laughed at that one..

I logged on, posted the setlist at curefans and cure-concerts and went to bed.

The next day i put in the first MD and found that the readout said "BLANK MD" over and over and over i tried to no avail. I fked up the first MD. I must have not unpaused properly.. I was [and still am] completely fking devastated. I blew it. I can't give back to my The Cure mates as i had hoped... I almost cried.. I checked the second and third MDs and the recording is there but the levels were too high and it's a poor listen..

I contacted a guy who has a recording studio but he doesn't have a MD deck and the MD player i have borrowed doesn't have a direct out so for now the recording is stowed away incomplete and terribly sounding in my cupboard.
In the near future i will share it out but really it's a piece of rubbish. so much so that i'm embarrassed and disappointed in myself like you wouldn't believe.

So to answer some questions that some of you have, yes there is a Brisbane master and no it hasn't been released yet. but not for Uber-reasons, for shame reasons....

Javier.

That is a cracking (albeit tragic) story(http://www.myheartland.co.uk/images/smiles/icon_notworthy.gif)(http://www.myheartland.co.uk/images/smiles/icon_notworthy.gif) to you for even trying.

So, for those of you who enjoy the sharing etc. remember the poor so & so who has to do all this & then stand still for nearly 3 hours.
(http://www.myheartland.co.uk/images/smiles/icon_notworthy.gif)(http://www.myheartland.co.uk/images/smiles/icon_notworthy.gif) to the tapers everywhere
