Hi Dudes. :-D
I would like to know which live-versions of this song you prefer. For me the best version is from "Show". It has the best lenght (not too short, not too long) and it was played so powerful and perfect. I love the bass-crash simon does at the end of this song. Amazing.
Please let me know what you like.
Cheers, Tr#
Show version. I Just love this version I Listen to it all the time on my old casette I just wish I could have it on CD
some live versions of a forest that i really like are from london (6/13/93), london (5/3/92), Werchter (5/7/81), and london (1/19/91). there are others. so many to chose from.

Show version was pretty awesome
I agree with Crowbi_wan, the Finsbury version was amazing (even if Simon made some mistakes  ) with that sort of "competition" between Robert and Boris as who could be the quicker one  and I had the chance to be part of the audience, my best concert :smt038
Being a "forest" person, I think this question suits me perfectly. My favorite is from London '91 at Wembley. The Show version is also great but the Kilburn National show from May 92 is becoming my 2nd favorite. There are so many great performances of this song it is hard to choose but these ones have great sound/recordings which gives them an edge. The versions I don't like are those where they go into "Forever". I have nothing against "Forever" but "A Forest" is just not the same with it.

One day you may log out and never be able to log back in... :smt029
Oh, back to the subject at hand... For now I would pick Jacksonville '92, but that may change with time. I actually was blown away by the Saint-P?re '05 version the other day. It had never really caught my attention before, but .
And Ron's right, boots with superb sound quality always portray the performance as better. I've heard some pretty bad boots, and when I find a better version it's like hearing it for the first time. And there's many things I'll probably never hear because the quality is just not pleasant to listen to. :x
I really love the 5/3/92 version. They were really jamming.
I really like the "Play-Out" version... the middle part with the drums is excellent!!! 8) But you're right Tristan, the show-version is also very amazing when Simon gets angry!!! 8)

Just more idle threats from the temptress.
Also for Doubt, that Play Out Version is the London Wembley 91 version. I forgot about it being on "official" video. Thanks for the reminder.

kilburn national is really great
i also tend to like some older live versions like those around '85 a lot, they seem to be more straightforward than jamming versions but that's why they just have this huge drive sometimes. for instance i just happened to listen to the birmingham 85-09-20 today and i found the version on it suddenly really striking :smt035

i just listened to the finsbury park show. a forest rocks on this one. :rocker robert goes nuts on his wah wah pedal and the song seems like it continues longer then the band expected. no extra vocals or anything. just some great jamming. :smt035

I forgot... That one ROCKS!
And it was Boris' last song. :( But what a way to go out! :-D
HUmm
What about the F@ck robert palmer version? from werchter 1981
the show version is one of my favorites too, but i am not sure which date it belongs to, 18.07.1992 Auburn Hills or 19.07.1992 Auburn Hills. Perhaps its a mix of both dates!!
who knows??

"There are so many great performances of this song it is hard to choose".
Hard to disagree with this... Actually, my favourite version of "A Forest" is the 17 Seconds studio version, just because it is 100% perfect. Playing live, The Cure replace some of the otherwise unnatainable mystery of the original with a harder, more trippy edge. It's a trade-off, really, and one that more often than not is crowned with success.
Anyway, I remember listening to a recorded 1981 live version of this song (the Picture Tour, unfortunately I can´t remember the exact date/venue) which was downright freaky, Robert´s solo guitar going into this really dark opressive mood, something I´ve never heard in any other version of the song... It really sounded like a mix between "Carnage Visors" and "Pornography" stuff or something close to that.

my fav version of A Forest is from Wembley Arena 1991 from Play out video :) I love this version. Boris play unbelievable on drums here and part where playing only Boris and Robert is excellent :smth038
i prefer a live version from 1984
My favorite version of "A Forest" that they performed live is from Orlando, Florida on the Wish Tour in 1992. A blistering, mind-blowing nearly 15 min. version. Superb.
I think we're a little spoiled for choice on this one...there are so many great live versions. I however, voted for the Show version as it's the one I keep going back to - unbelievably powerful..awesome version!!
P.S. Thanks very much for posting the links coxoxi! Now I don't have to drag out my very old VHS copy of Show every time I want to hear it. :smth023
