with the MacOS X Zip files Would work fine... the flac files.. use Xact... you can download it from here....   http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21952    this will convert your flac files into an AIFF files wich is the same as WAV but in MAC format and the burn the files to an audio cd.... or you can use the Roxio Toast program to burn the flac file direct to an audio cd... i use de xact just to the AIFF files get them to mp3 justo for my library in my Ofcie MAC but for my collection i keep the FLAC files in a back up CD and  an audio cd Copy

nice to hear there's another mac head here too...  :D
yep, xATC is a fine tool. although i use it almost solely when i convert from wav/aiff to flac, not the other way round.
i very rarely convert flac files to aiff/wav anymore or burn anything to audio cds. roxio's toast is fine when burning flac to audios like you mentioned although i usually simply burn everything in finder, i burn everything just as data discs since i store all lossless shows in flac on dvd-rs. then i use MacAmp to play flac files directly from my hard drive/data dvds - no need to convert to aiff/wav! :D
and nothing goes to mp3s anymore - if it's originally lossless then it stays that way.

and after about an year of being a mac user: no, i wouldn't consider changing back to pc... 8)

more precisely, i have MacAmp Lite X.
easy to google out i guess.  ;)

toast is fine of course, i just kind of prefer macamp when i need a "player only" purposes.
i just seem to feel it's more compact for that.

Thanks for this. In another community I shared a Slowdive show in FLAC format and a girl with a MAC computer couldn't figure out how to manage it. I will send her this tip.

Cheers,

David.

For encoding/decoding, I'm using xAct !
The faster and simplier way

i have xATC too, but lately i've been using an application called Max 0.6.1.
i've been advised that especially what comes to secure ripping of cd-rs that's the closest thing to EAC for mac users.

well i don't want to start sounding like a hired advertiser here but just about any common audio burning software don't rip cds safely enough and so you are prone to get all sorts of little errors that eventually might ruin the discs. i think this really is a more common problem than many people might notice.
so mac users might really want to check out Max 0.6.1. because of this: if you have 0.5.1 already it's better to update to 0.6.1. because only the latest version has the comparison ripper mode which is a really good addition, i think. there's also an 'paranoia mode' which enables error correction in case you might want to try and rip already somewhat damaged cds, but i haven't checked that out in action yet. but i'd say the comparison ripper is great for everyday purposes.
(+ it's a free application.)

So I've downloaded xAct ... and I've tried to open (decode) FLAC files with it ... but I Keep getting a "NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError: 4(1)" message and then it flips it over to the encode section of the program.
Am I completely retarded or am I not doing something correctly.
Any help (ie - walk me through the steps of converting the FLAC to AIFF) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Constantly talking is not necessarily communicating.

xATC should be the easiest program to use, the walk through would just be to drag and drop the flac files to the window on xATC, then hit decode... i've never seen any such error message and i'm not sure what you mean by the program flipping over to the encode section(?). i've never noticed that it flips anywhere automatically - even if you try decoding something that's not flac it gives you a "can't do" sort of error message but doesn't start suggesting encoding instead.
i'm sorry i can't help right now but i'm a bit confused. :?
are you 100% sure your flac files are ok? i'd try with several different files from several sources and see if the results are the same(or maybe you did already?).
also, which version of xATC you have by the way?

you can also try out max 0.7. it's slower than xATC but actually better, what comes to the whole package. also rips cds safely etc.
(yet xATC is very handy with checksums and md5s - and with aligninf the SBEs!)

What do Mac users use to download torrents? I am on a Mac OS X 10.4.11 temporarily and had trouble trying to get the mac versions of Transmission or uTorrent to work.

I am a PC boy so all suggestions gratefully received

azureus - but not the latest version, i really prefer the older ones, i'm still on 2.4 something.. i upgraded it once but i hated all those vuze ads that came with it so i went back to the old version.
i've tried Transmission too a few times and have found it very comfortable to use - so what kind of problems were you having with it?

Thanks japanesebaby (I hoped you would reply!). I couldn't get either of them to install properly or run at all. I will go Azureus hunting and see what happens.

Thanks for your help

that's odd. are you sure you tried installing a version that should run in 10.4?  you said you have OS X 10.4.11 and it sounds to me that you have an older ibook or powerbook there(?), not an "intel mac" (macbook or something with an intel processor). i have both an old ibook with 10.4 and macbook pro with 10.5 (with intel), and i've noticed such incompatibility problems sometimes: some really good software i've had on my trusty old 10.4 ibook refuses to install on my 10.5 macbook and the other way round. so maybe that might have been the problem? if you downloaded the latest version of Transmission (1.7 or something), then it probably won't run in 10.4. i think the versions after 1.6 or so all do require OS X 10.5 platform. so you could try installing some older version, just to see how goes?
by the way the latest version of Transmission i have on my ibook is something so ancient as 0.82, but i've never bothered to upgrade it as it works ok. surely i'm missing a lot of new handy features that the newer versions have, but since i mainly use azureus anyway i've never bothered to upgrade.

here's the link to the same version of azureus that i've had on my ibook (which has the same OS X as you, 10.4.11):
http://www.filehippo.com/download_vuze/877/

you can surely try some newer version too but at least that version i can guarantee should work just fine.

**edit.i just noticed that  actually the link to 2.4 is not a link to the "pre-vuze" 2.4. that i have. judging from the screenshots it does have all that vuze stuff that i didn't like so much. anyway, at least it should work run ok in 10.4.11 because i tried it out once. and newer versions should run fine too, just see that the description says 10.4 and not 10.5/intel. if it still doesn't work, let me know.
